well, obviously you're being stupid. it's a judgement call on the basis of what the ump's saw. One ump should of never made that call. It does happen in baseball and has happened since baseball existed.

RoXer
10-21-2009, 05:32 PM
what boggles my mind is the umps are really suppossed to get together after that play no matter if it was the crew chief that made the call.

True but only the ump at 3rd and home had good vantage points. The ump at 3rd having the best. And something tells me even if they did conference, the ump at 3rd's decision would be made final.

Think about it, there's no way the ump at 2nd saw both aspects of the play. Maybe the ump at 1st had a good vantage point. But it would have come down to what the ump at 3rd and home saw and the decision would have most likely gone to the ump at 3rd seeing as how he had the best vantage point.

sorry, I left work after I posted that last one and just got a chance to respond.

I know when I play (and I play right field), one of the umpiress will go to the outfield and signal "catch" once the catch is made and then the other umps have to get in a position to where they can see the "catch" signal and the runnner's foot at the same time. Obviously, it's always a tough call.

My problem with last night was how are you going to call Swisher out when you clearly were blind to the bag. And he never admited that he had a view of Swisher's feet.

I'm sure there's an umpires guide somewhere on the internet so we can see what is suppossed to happen.

How the hell did George Sherrill go form closer to reliver?

Baltimore most have made off like bandits in that trade.

Flat Breezy (nickname cuz of the flat brim of his hat) was actually awesome as a closer in tight situations. I remember one time last year he loaded the bases with no outs vs the cubs and struck out the next 3 batters. I kinda miss him considering that Jim Johnson stunk as a closer the last two months. My guess is he's got some kind of mental problem or something where he cant concentrate unless he's under a ton of pressure or whatever.

Its too early to tell if they made out like bandits. Josh Bell has potential at 3B (probably will be opening day starter) and was the Dodgers 8th ranked prospect and Steve Johnson (Os broadcaster Dave Johnson's son) has some potential as well but he's probably at least 2 years off from sniffing Camden Yards and thats if they rush him (which could happen considering the merry go round that is the Os pitching staff as of late).

Still remember the ALCS in 2004 at Yankee Stadium with Pedro pitching. That chant was the loudest I had ever heard the Stadium. That was before everything fell apart in the series.

Remember being in the car after the game and listening to Pedro talking about sitting under trees eating apples back in his home country or something weird like that.

Unless the runner tries to interfere by getting hit by it, it's not a dead ball

it was dead once Matsui hit it. That's why Cano didn't score. Ump called it dead.

I should of clarified that it was dead because Matsui hit it and because it rolled out of play

Angels basically deserved to lose the way they played sloppy vs the Yankees the entire series. Even in Game 5 when they came back from the Yankee comeback, their closer managed to almost tie the game with a free run with bases loaded but got Swisher to hit the ball and then in Game 6 gave up the free run.

I'd rather see back-to-back titles for the Phillies rather than a 27th overall world championship for the Yankees, though. Also, how fucking weird is it that in the '01 WS, it went 'til Nov. 1, and this is the first WS since then that will go at least until Nov. 1, and the Yankees somehow end up back there again.

Something's gotta give...either the Yankees winning the only two World Series' ever to end in November, or the Phillies winning back-to-back championships, but I do hope ever so much that it's the latter of the two.

Stolen from a blog:

McGwire: See, what you want to be doing is hitting dingers.
McGwire: When you go up there, first pitch, you're looking dead red so you can hit a dinger.
McGwire: Sometimes you're gonna miss. That's okay. Stick to your guns. There's no more efficient way of scoring than hitting a dinger. That's what we want to be doing.
McGwire: The pitcher might pick up on your strategy. Don't worry about it. He's more afraid of you than you are of him.
McGwire: If he throws you something offspeed, like a curveball, don't be fooled. Just hit it for a dinger.
McGwire: Walks are good too. If the pitcher tries to get you to chase something out of the zone, don't swing at it.
McGwire: You only want to swing at strikes. Take balls. Hit strikes for dingers.
McGwire: Now let's break up and practice. Group A, get in there. I want to see you guys hitting dingers. Group B, practice your dinger swings.
McGwire: Who's first in Group A? Skip? Get in there, Skip.
McGwire: Let's see some dingers!
Schumaker: ...
Schumaker: Coach, I don't
McGwire: What're you doing over there?
McGwire: You're standing on the wrong side of the plate. Bat righty.
McGwire: You hit dingers batting righty.

Michael Ian Black on rooting for the Yankees: ("via" ry)

http://www.michaelianblack.net/blog/2009/10/go-yankees.html

The Yankees are in the World Series for the first time in six years. I have mentioned before how difficult it should be for me to root for the Yankees since it’s sort of like being in high school and cheering for the most popular kids to become more popular. And yet, I cannot help myself.

[...]

In every other aspect of my life, I will continue to identify with the misfits and losers. As people they are more interesting and fun to hang out with. I mean, I love Derek Jeter, but I wouldn’t choose him as my Scattergories partner, the stiff. But I have one small place in my life where I am the guy with the brightest teeth. That place is my love for the Yankees. May they destroy those scrappy, fucking underdog Phillies.

I plan on watching every game in it's entirety during this series. When the playoffs started, i said this would be the series you want to watch. C.C.'s problem is more of fatigue and how it seems everyone that has used him for a season or a playoff run ends up over-using him. So far it hasn't backfired on the Yankees but that's been more the result of rain giving extra days off to rest than him pitching after 2-3 days and a 7-9 inning pitched game.
