interesting

Kershaw has a horrible sideburns/playoff beard combo going on, btw.

10-14-2009, 09:39 PM
Clayton "Patchy" Kershaw in game 1
SammyG
10-14-2009, 09:45 PM
Kershaw is the man. 21 years old, disgusting hat. Disgusting curveball. Gonna be our ace for years to come.
Triple Naitch
10-14-2009, 09:46 PM
Don't get me wrong. He is the real deal and will be great for many years, but he doesn't have the playoff swagger yet.
Skippord
10-14-2009, 09:47 PM
and he'll still be the second best pitcher in the NL West for years to come
SammyG
10-14-2009, 09:47 PM
Oh, I know that. He went toe to toe with Wainwright in that game 2, though. He looked under control, don't think he walked anyone.
SammyG
10-14-2009, 09:48 PM

That's fine, because the Dodgers will be the best team in the NL West for years to come...
Skippord
10-14-2009, 09:48 PM
doubt it
Triple Naitch
10-14-2009, 09:50 PM
I can see every team in the NL West winning their division at lease once within the next 8 years.
SammyG
10-14-2009, 09:51 PM
lol, ok guy.
Skippord
10-14-2009, 09:51 PM
Everyone but the Padres probably
even though they were fantastic after the All Star Break
Skippord
10-14-2009, 09:52 PM
does Kershaw ever go past the 7th?
I haven't seen him do it yet I don't think
Triple Naitch
10-14-2009, 09:54 PM
Padres have got some good young studs on their team. Latos, Richard, Poreda, Adrian, Headley, Kouz.
Skippord
10-14-2009, 09:55 PM
well I just meant since they're going to be cutting payroll
Skippord
10-14-2009, 09:56 PM
In my bold possibly stupid homer pick
I'm gonna say Carlos Gonzalez will be the best player in the NL West either next year or the year after
Triple Naitch
10-14-2009, 09:59 PM
Carlos is for real, son. He'll be a star. Maybe the next Beltran.
Skippord
10-14-2009, 10:00 PM
I've seen about every game he's played as a Rockie and he seems to get better each week
Skippord
10-14-2009, 10:01 PM
although Ethier and Kung Fu Panda are both very good
DaveWadding
10-14-2009, 10:29 PM
I would love Ethier if he played for any team but the Dodgers.
DaveWadding
10-14-2009, 10:29 PM

SammyG
10-15-2009, 04:48 AM
So I guess this is our rotation
Game 1: Kershaw
Game 2: Padilla
Game 3: Kuroda
Game 4: Wolfie
DaveWadding
10-15-2009, 04:51 AM
4th starter
4th starter
4th starter
4th starter
Shit the Dodgers have so many 4th starters, they don't have the roster space for them all.
Dave, stop being a hater.
SammyG
10-15-2009, 04:58 AM
lol Kuroda a 4th starter? Kershaw a 4th starter? You are ridiculous. Stop hating just because all of your teams suck my teams' cocks. Fuck.
DaveWadding
10-15-2009, 05:04 AM
Kuroda is not that good. Never has been that good.
Kershaw will be better than what he is in a few years, but the Dodgers are rushing him. He should be refining his 3rd and 4th pitches in the 4th or 5th slot and not the de facto ace of the staff.
DaveWadding
10-15-2009, 05:06 AM
also, Rusty Ryal > Kuroda
DaveWadding
10-15-2009, 05:28 AM
?
DaveWadding
10-15-2009, 05:32 AM
I'm not saying these guys suck or something...I'm just saying that somehow the Dodgers have found a way to succeed with a shitload of back of the rotation type starters.
DaveWadding
10-15-2009, 05:34 AM
and my point with Kershaw is that I've seen young pitchers have a good first year, then get overextended in their 2nd year and blow out their fucking arm and never be the same again (Mark Prior for example) and the Dodgers are putting an awful lot of stress on Kershaw's arm at this point.
SammyG
10-15-2009, 02:01 PM
We're simply going with who's hot right now. In addition, the way the Dodgers have found a way to succeed with not that great of a starting rotation, is the unreal bullpen they have. Mad good, best in MLB.
Skippord
10-15-2009, 02:20 PM
The Dodgers bullpen is good, not the best in baseball
that would be the Yankees probably
Skippord
10-15-2009, 02:20 PM

Actually the Dodgers had the best bullpen ERA in the majors this year. Now of course AL era's are inflated by the DH rule, but even then the Yanks were only 5th in the AL.
McLegend
10-15-2009, 02:59 PM
Well I would assume the Yankees bullpen is better now then in was the regular season since Joba Chamberlain is now in there.

I love that no one's giving the Angels any chance of winning their series. Granted the Yankees are the overwhelming favorites, but it's pretty much a forgone conclusion amongst everyone outside of Southern California that the Yankees are going to the World Series.

I truthfully worry about them. But, things have changed quite a bit since the 2002 and 2005 postseason. The Angels no longer have K-rod who is an excellent closer. And the Yankees didn't have the hitting and bullpen we have now then.
Basically I feel that this could be our year. I'm really hoping we can get past this. But the fact of the matter is I'm scared.
All that I am doing is hoping that these guys can pull through this.
Dragon
10-15-2009, 09:58 PM
I think the Yankees will win the series but I don't think its gonna be easy at all.
The Angels obviously have the depth in the rotation but I think the Yanks are probably gonna go with CC three times in the series if it ends up going 7 games. He'll go on short rest the 4th game and that'll be the only start on short rest.
The Angels lineup isn't that far off from the Yankees.
The one huge advantage the Yankees have is the bullpen I think. Mo-Hughes-Joba-Robertson is just nasty in the late innings. I don't expect the Yankees to own the Angels starting pitching (maybe Saunders), but I can see a lot of games being decided in the late innings.

Angels match up very well against the Yankees and unlike the Yankees, Angels are playing more motivated for their fallen teammate.
ESPN and other analysts over-reacted big time once Yankees swept the Twins but as usual they forgot Twins are usually horrible against the Yankees in the post-season.
OssMan
10-16-2009, 01:17 AM
A-Rod always gets his ass raped against in the Angels in the playoffs if I remember correctly. I remember one year him mouthing "fuck you" after he struck out to the Angels bench.
SammyG
10-16-2009, 01:24 AM
Hell of a game, very disappointing for me, obviously. We were AWFUL with runners in scoring position, 2-14? Shit. That's how we lost the game. Plus a couple timely 3 run shots by the Phillies. It was ridiculous to see how awful Sherill was, when he was money all year for us. Good to see Manny and Loney go yard, but yeah, this is gonna be a hell of a series.
Must win tomorrow for sure. Padilla vs Pedro....

Nice, JJ Putz is willing to have his $8.6 million 2010 option declined for the $1 million buyout, and he wants to re-up with the Mets on a 1-year incentive laden deal instead cause he knows nobody is gonna give him a chance to close.
The Putz-Rod combo never came to fruition in '09 cause Putz re-injured himself...worth a shot to try it again cause the Mets need another arm in the pen and if Putz stays healthy he's a better choice than any other FA reliever.

Congrats on the Yankees first win. I really hope the Yankees can beat the Angels. Is it safe to say yet that Sabathia's "Post season blues" have come to a stop? The Angels got a few breaks too. it's not really going their way like you think. They grounded into about 4 double play's last night and made a couple crucial errors that could of easily cost them the game. I mean, yea, they are getting breaks, but the Angles had about 4 chances to win the game last night. They had men on base with like 0 or 1 out a couple times and could not score.
Evil Vito

I wouldn't be surprised if dad tried to convince Matt to be a Yankee. If I were the Yankees I'd try to sign back Damon and sign Holliday. IMO Matsui is good bye. Matsui can't really play the outfield anymore and I'd rather have Damon.

Bull fucking shit on that. He might be looking for that but I don't think any team will want him for for 7 years. Especially not after he botched it in Left Field a few times in the playoffs.
Something tells me that when no one signs him for that long he will have a 4 year deal. Look he wants to play baseball and I don't know any team that would want him for that long.
It really depends on what Jason Bay and Johnny Damon get. But if he wants a 7 year deal from us then fuck Holliday. My opinion is when no one wants to sign him for that long he will drop it to 4 maybe 5 years. That's when I think we should go after him but that's just my opinion.

Yeah I'm thinking Holliday settles for a 5-year deal.
My ideal Mets offseason would be:
-Sign Holliday for LF
-Sign Lackey for #2 starter
-Decline J.J. Putz' option but then work out a cheaper 1-year deal with incentives that could get him up to his option money if he does great, it'll let him prove himself and angle for a closer job somewhere in 2011
-Either sign a middle of the road righty first baseman to a 1 year deal, or trade for a guy like Ryan Garko, to platoon with Murphy
---
Can't see all of that happening though. Definitely don't see them landing Holliday AND Lackey, certainly. More likely, they'll prolly sign Jason Marquis (who has been open about how he wants to pitch for the Mets) even though his 2009 season was clearly just a good contract year, while hoping for a bounceback season from Pelfrey.

Ends up benefiting Seattle and Johjima since Seattle can use the salary from Johjima to sign Felix Fernandez to a extension to keep him. Johjima gets to go back to being more comfortable in the Japanese league and closer to his home.

I don't know about that one there guy, I don't watch baseball too often, but when I do it seems there are multiple terrible calls per game. Post season or regular. Replay needs to be for pretty much everything if the umps are gonna be consistently terrible. If bad calls were more rare then yeah, keep it to just HRs, but that's not the case. The league needs to make it so the players/managers decide the outcome, not shitty calls by the umps

It's the way it has to be though Dragon. The amount of close calls and bang-bang plays in a game of baseball, if you reviewed all of them you'd add hours onto the game.
Umpire's judgement is generally very good. Somebody once showed me super-slow-mo of 100 bang-bang plays at first and the calls MLB umpires made, 99 of them were right.

Exactly. No matter what anyone says, there usually aren't this many ridiculously bad calls in a game usually.
I've seen a couple HR replays since that rule was put in place and a couple of times it took like 5 minutes. Would just be insane to have everything put up for replay.

Come on now, you know no where near that many would even need to be considered. With the immense amount of fly outs and easy tosses to first that number shrinks drastically.
Baseball is a game that's so easy to review it just doesn't make sense that they don't have it. As I said before, a minute or less is all it realistically takes to figure out what happened. Hell, with that time frame if they had a replay official who's job it was to just watch the replays, he could override the call before the next batter even got to the plate. It's a respect thing. They're in charge of the game, and their call is final. Even though they aren't perfect, they're generally quite close.
Baseball umpires are probably the most respected officials in sports. You can't even walk up to one of them and say 'you'. You gain nothing by allowing their authority to be undermined.

"Oh that's good because I have him leaving the bag at 6:47 pm as well."
"So he's safe right?"
"Right!"
The ump 3rd made the correct decision to look at the catch while keeping the runner in the peripheral. He just blew the call.
