 the ump ending up distracting Ryan which gave enough time for a throw to be done at 1st to ensure the perfect game.
:foc: Padilla. Doubront pitches great today and the first relief pitcher gives up a slammy to the Yanks.

:| the whole bullpen is full of incompetent pitchers.
Wasted a great outing by Doubront and the offense. Crowd is booing Booby V badly but Francona would be stuck with the same crap if he was still there as manager.
Don't care if Bard throws another fit but he needs to be thrown back into the bullpen.

how is that the panic button? Like every outfielder they have is injured (Ellsbury, Crawford, Repko, Kalish), they DFAed Bowden recently anyways, and the Cubs are picking up most of the tab. Why NOT do that deal?
Evil Vito

So the list of players that threw no-nos for other clubs after they left the Mets organization is now at:
-Nolan Ryan (7 of them, hence why it's the Curse of Nolan Ryan)
-Tom Seaver (after a million close calls with the Mets)
-Dwight Gooden (damn Yankees)
-David Cone (damn Yankees)
-Mike Scott (ball scuffer extraordinaire)
-Hideo Nomo (threw one before his Mets tenure AND one after)
-AJ Burnett (worst no-no ever but still)
-Philip Humber (only pitched in like 6 games as a Met)
Looking at the first 4 names on the list is pretty much all you need to know. So much great pitching has rolled through Queens and nobody's been able to seal the deal. And when you look at some of the close calls, it's such a tease.
They've had numerous one-hitters in which the only hit was a pitcher (Steve Trachsel and R.A. Dickey off the top of my head, think there may have been more). Jon Niese a couple of years ago had a near perfect game, retiring 27 of 28 batters faced. John Maine took one into the 8th inning one time and ended up losing it on a slow grounder up the third base line that somehow didn't go foul. 35 one-hitters in team history.
It's never going to happen. Pretty much just left hoping the Padres never get one, as they're the only other team that hasn't.

They could have easily got someone on the cheap on the free agent market and give them a deal Johnny Damon got from the Indians. J.D. Drew, Marcus Thames, and Aaron Roward are still sitting at home. There's gotta be somebody down on the farm they could use. I'm no expert on the PawSox, but somebody could come up to the big stage for a few weeks to get their outfield sorted out.
Just makes no sense rushing into a trade this early into a season. A trade with the Cubs no less since it took most of the offseason to work out the comp for Theo.

If you had told me that near the end of April the Os would have a better record (11-7) than the Tigers (10-8) I might have laughed. Being able to beat the blue jays is a good sign things are turning around (6-12 vs them last year, 4-1 so far this year).

Plate umpire Jeff Kellogg received a loud cheer during the Baltimore Orioles' game against Oakland on Friday night when he tackled a streaker.
But the hit is unlikely to go down so well with Major League Baseball officials, who are likely to discipline Kellogg over the incident, The Baltimore Sun reported.
The bare-chested fan ran onto the field in the middle of the seventh inning during the Orioles' 5-2 loss, and headed down the third base line, sliding head-first into home plate.
He stood up and continued running, when Kellogg gave chase and tackled him from behind.
Kellogg refused to comment after the game, but Orioles center fielder Adam Jones commended the umpire for the action he took.
"I told him, 'That's awesome," Jones said. "I'm sick and tired of these guys running on the field, man."
It was the fourth time someone had run onto the Camden Yards field this season.
"I'd [advocate] that people get Tased. I'd enjoy that," added Jones, referring to the brand of stun gun. "You don't run on the field and just disturb a game that's going on. It's private property."

Interesting article over on espn.com. MLB is considering tweaking the interleague schedule. Eliminating the big time intracity rivalries (i.e. Mets/Yankees Cubs/ChiSox)
and moving toward natural rivalries. The one they mention is Padres/Mariners.
Here's the story.
Sources: MLB to revamp rivalries
Updated: April 30, 2012, 6:42 PM ET
By Adam Rubin (http://search.espn.go.com/rubin-adam) | ESPNNewYork.com
HOUSTON -- Major League Baseball is working on a scheduling reconfiguration for the 2013 season and beyond that likely will eliminate the Mets and Yankees as well as other "natural rivals" playing home-and-home, six-game series annually, baseball sources told ESPNNewYork.com.
With the Houston Astros (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/hou/houston-astros) moving to the American League West next season and the leagues becoming balanced at 15 teams apiece, natural rivals throughout baseball no longer will be guaranteed six games a season and home-and-home series, the sources said.
That goes for obvious intracity rivals such as Mets-Yankees and Cubs-White Sox, as well as for more-forced natural rivals such as the San Diego Padres (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/sd/san-diego-padres) and Seattle Mariners (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/sea/seattle-mariners).
The Mets and Yankees will continue to play six games a season -- three apiece at Citi Field and Yankee Stadium -- when the AL East and NL East line up for long-form interleague play every three years.
But in the other seasons, a major league source added, the competition likely will be limited to three games at one ballpark, or two games apiece at each ballpark.
Sources cautioned that the 2013 Major League Baseball schedule, and the precise new configurations, are still being discussed.

The Mets and Yankees annually have played three games apiece in the Bronx and Queens since 1999.
The rivalry typically has been a boon to attendance while also increasing the toughness of the New York teams' schedules relative to their division rivals.
While it increased the difficulty of the Mets' schedule, the Yankees annually playing three games a season at Citi Field has provided a boost to attendance and revenue.
The nine largest crowds at Citi Field during the first three seasons of the stadium's existence were the Yankees' nine visits to Queens -- an average of 41,513 tickets sold per game.
Since interleague play began in 1997, the Mets are 35-49 against the Yankees.

In 1976 the team's uniforms changed again. The team's primary color changed back from red to navy. The team based their uniforms on a style worn in the early days of the franchise, with white jerseys worn at home, blue on the road. The team brought back white socks for the last time in team history. The socks featured a different stripe pattern every year. The team also had the option to wear blue or white pants with either jersey. Additionally the teams "SOX" logo was changed to a modern-looking "SOX" in a bold font, with 'CHICAGO' written across the jersey. Finally, the team's logo featured a silhouette of a batter over the words "SOX".

I'd much prefer Mariano going down now then in the Summer or September when the games really, really, matter. I would of preferred MO staying but think about it if you're a Yankees fan with only 2 options.
1. Your top closer going down in very early May
2. Your top closer going down in mid to late August/Early September
Which one would you prefer?

Can the Orioles beat Lester?
The stats are as imposing as any pitcher since the turn of the 20th century! He's 14-0 in the last 10 years(he's only been around since 2006) ERA at 2.36 But in his last three starts( he was excellent in his very last start) he is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. Very small sample size. The Red Sox want this first game very badly. They need to start gaining ground and are without Youkillis and Ellsberry. Beckett will not pitch in this series either. This is an important game for the Sox. Boy, wish we had Reimold in thie lineup tonight.
the Lester thing vs the Os is a little blown out of proportion. He pitched 162 last year and the Os won that game but he got the no decision, so..whatever. Itd be nice if they could finally hand him a L like they did with Nova earlier this week.

The way the Red Sox are playing at home, this could easily be the first year they have a loosing record at home in 14-15 years.
Whole team is in a mess and giving away divisional games which ended up being a huge reason for last year's collapse.

Orioles bullpen hasn't been scored on in 21 innings and is the best bullpen in baseball ERA wise.
I cant remember even when they had good teams in the mid 90s a time when they had such a great bullpen..

Still having a hard time grasping the fact that the Orioles have a better record (18-9) than everyone but Washington (same), Texas (potentially the same if they win tonight) the LA Dodgers (same) and Tampa (19-8 with a game tonight currently losing).

Angels/Scioscia gave Pujols the day off.
Think Arte Moreno is regretting signing him yet?

Most likely although wouldn't be as huge of an issue had Texas not open up a good 10+ game lead early on and the Angels didn't struggle overall.
He's facing the same problem a lot of NL players have when they adjust to the AL since it takes a lot longer than vice versa to be great again.
Fielder himself after the intial couple of games has been struggling a bit as well in terms of scoring and batting average but not in hits.

Skippy would have loved the Os/Sox game today.
Jason Hammel vs Aaron Cook, and both teams used relievers (Matt Lindstrom and Clayton Mortenson) that were with the Rockies last year as well. Plus the Sox Pitching coach Bob McClure was with the Rockies from 99-05 as well

Ugh pitching woes continue for the Red Sox now that Cook is out injured due to yesterday and Buccholz couldn't get past the 4th inning. Outside of the 1 good week, pitching has been horrendous so far this season and hasn't been getting any better.
Didn't think it was possible for them to play worse than last year's final month but they've found a way to do it so far.

I remember watching him when he was in A Ball for the Orioles back in 1997.
That was the greatest thing ever, between the throw out at home to end the 16th and Chris Davis' pitching and Adam Jones' 3 Run Hr.
FIRST PLACE! Best record in baseball! YES YES YES

Interesting day for baseball today. O's and BoSox pretty much played 2, and Pujols goes yard.
Yankees fan base is on pins and needles waiting for the phone call to Pettitte. He threw in AAA today. He may go one more time or be on the Empire State shuttle to the Bronx this week.

thats better than most of the staff they have up..Yankees have had 9 games already where their starter hasn't gone 5 innings compared to the Os/Rays each with 3.
I would like to pat myself on the back for calling Kuroda sucking in the AL East, although it pisses me off the one game he did pitch well was the only game the Os lost on the past 6 game road trip..

Yeah but Pettite is pitching right now against inferior players compared to who he'll face when he gets called up.

Still can't believe Washington is in 1st place in the NL East. How many people actually saw that happening? Actually hope they can keep it up and draw in some fans this year. I feel bad for teams that are playing that good and can't fill more than like 25% of the seats.

Im really hoping that between the Os good start and the Rangers/Rays/Yankees coming in for the next 9 games to Camden Yards that the attendance will pick up in Baltimore.
If that past 6 game road trip (5-1, outscored the Sox/Yankees 36-15) was supposedly the early litmus test for how real the Orioles are than this 9 game homestand is that doubled. Plus its a stretch of 17 games in 20 days where the Os play either at Camden Yards or in DC (which are essentially home games) with only a 2 game road trip to KC stuck in the middle.

The good news with the 4 game Rangers series is they miss Darvish since he pitched today. The bad news is the bullpen threw 21 innings (23 counting Davis' 2 innings) in the last 3 days and only allowed 1 run in todays game but with no off day its gonna be tough going tomorrow and probably into Tuesday..but they seem to be catching Texas at a good time...the rangers are starting Harrison tomorrow who has given up 15 runs in his last 2 starts..

Kurodas been a roller coaster so far this year. Crazy how the starting pitching was supposed to be solved in the offseason, then Pineda gets hurt and Hughes and Garcia both attempt to out-implode each other.
