Cole Hamels slapped with a 5-game suspension for being stupid. AKA admitting he plunked Bryce Harper on purpose last night.
Some of my friends on Facebook are complaining he got suspended.
I guess intentionally throwing at guys is okay to some. Can't wait to see it at the next Little League game.

Maybe Harper was talking shit to Hamels before the game. I admit the kid is a bit to cocky for his own good. This is the same player that blew a kiss to the pitcher in the minors when he hit a Home Run. Either way if you're gonna hit someone on purpose no matter how much of a dick Harper was or wasn't you don't actually confess that you did it on purpose. That was kinda a dumb ass move on you Hamels.

Keith
05-08-2012, 03:43 PM
Hamels basically admitted that he hit him as a way to "welcome" him to the Big Leagues. It's "old school".
However, Harper had the last laugh by stealing home, so I think the matter should've been left alone.

A couple interesting news and notes.
Casey Blake is gonna call it a career.
The more interesting piece of news is that Brad Penny is coming back stateside. He asked for his release from the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks after just one start. Word is that he dealt with shoulder pain over the past month and couldn't adapt to japanese baseball. Buster Olney reports that he already got offers waiting for him to either start or pitch out of the bullpen from various teams.

But, seriously I always loved this guy. It couldn't have happened to a greater guy. I always have felt so bad for him because he has so much potential and if it weren't for his drugs and Alcohol problems at the beginning of his career I believe he could have had more potential then he does right now. This guy is a very, very, very, special kind of hitter.

Not surprised Beckett is being a dumbass again considering he's the one who threw a fit when last year's beer and chicken story broke out and then follows up by lashing out at Bobby V when the ban was in place.
I think this year was a rare Spring Training where he didn't have a huge "beer gut" but replaced that with always having an excuse to why he stunk for a game. Supposedly he never bothered to tell Bobby V of his "soreness" until a few days before his start and Bobby V didn't even bother to deal with him for his next start since he knew something was up.

Simple answer is he stopped being devoted to baseball after 2007 or 2008 because that is when the tradition of him arriving at Spring Training with a massive beer gut started. Hasn't had ace status for maybe the last 3 years in favor of Lester.

Youkilis seems more likely to get traded and he did hint during the offseason or Spring Training that if really did occur, the Reds would have priority if he gets to make a list of teams. A Beckett deal would involve the Red Sox potentially "eating" almost the entire $17 million owed to him this season.
He's from the area and grew up watching Reds games with his goal to play for them before retiring.

Buchholz had his best start of the season (ignoring the earned runs after he left) but the bullpen almost found a way to blow it.
Can't really blame the bullpen tonight since they've been overworked recently. The potentially bad news is Ortiz leaving with an injury since he's the best hitter right now on the team.

With 162 games of airtime to fill, there's a lot of opportunity for baseball's broadcast crews to make mischief during some of the down time, especially in blowouts. Some do it. Some don't. But for my money, there are few better than Arizona's Mark Grace and Daron Sutton.
That was evident earlier this week when the pair's audio feed cut out (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/mark-grace-uses-telestrator-alerts-fans-sound-loss-061415721.html), but they scored more points with a fun situation on Tuesday. Watch as Fox Sports Arizona cameras identify a couple on its first date at a game between the Diamondbacks and Cardinals at Chase Field before the duo enlists reporter Mark McClune to investigate the Romeo and Juliet further.

An interactive text poll to decide whether or not you get a second date?
And here I thought that landing on Kiss Cam was potentially the most awkward thing that could happen when you decide your first date will take place at a ballpark.
Seriously, though: While I know that Grace isn't for everyone, the team down there deserves credit for realizing that all three hours of the broadcast don't have to focus just on the action. There's an entire show in the stands, too, and the D'Backs always have fun recognizing that — even when they're being beaten by the birds.

I will feel very confident about the Os season if they can sweep the Rays tomorrow, after having swept the Blue Jays, Red Sox and 2 out of 3 from the Yankees in the past couple weeks. They were 28-44 vs the AL East all of last season and they already have a 12-5 record vs the AL East this year.

That being said, Miller definitely screwed him. He could have righted it by calling the 2nd pitch a ball...but it seems like an unwritten rule that the ump will always call a strike for anything remotely close after the guy started walking to 1st on the previous pitch. Lance Berkman might have a torn ACL and is considering retirement.
Kinda sucks, the last of the Killer B's goes down to an injury. And Biggio and Bagwell walked away from the game. Hope he sticks around for one more season.
This sucks. Had such an awesome season last year, even had a MVP-caliber season.
At least he goes out with a World Series ring, unlike Bagwell and Biggio.

Breaking Chuck Knoblauch news:
Posted <time data-print="date" datetime="2012-05-21T18:11:06Z">about 3 hours ago</time>
There's a story going around the interwebs today that former Yankees provocateur Chuck Knoblauch hit on two women (http://youtastelikenachos.tumblr.com/post/23487381466/this-is-a-story-about-a-former-new-york-yankee) while riding the G train the other day.
The story is interesting if not wholly not unique — drunk star-gone-to-seed clumsily tries to spit game — but one detail about it really caught my eye:
And I scoffed and rolled my eyes because BUDDY you are wearing chef pants on the G train and you’re fat and don’t even try to hint to me that you’re a former major league baseball player. ... At this point we were just kind of egging him on so I asked him if he has ever played professional baseball and he said he couldn’t answer that but that he was recently divorced from his wife and 'Are you sisters? Want to come uptown with me? I’ll just have to change first.'"
WHY WAS CHUCK KNOBLAUCH WEARING CHEF'S PANTS?
Is he a chef now?
Where is Chuck Knoblauch's restaurant?
Is it in Greenpoint?
Is Chuck Knoblauch living a second-life as a foodie All-Star hipster chef?
Can he still not throw the ball from second to first?

I thought the killer B's were Bagwell, Bell, and Biggio?

Yeah, but nobody remembers Derek Bell. :shifty:
Berkman got there and took that team to a new level.

Giancarlo Stanton with a monstrous grand slam off of Moyer
I hate the Rockies. Almost as much as I enjoy watching Stanton hit.

Long or Girardi would be fired, or Teixeira traded for $.05 on the dollar.

Sox win and are now at .500 again. Let's hope they don't drop back down again like they did when they reached .500 awhile back.

Yankees and Red Sox are tied for last in the division. When was the last time that happened in May?
