Yeah he was such a cheap pickup at 1 year, $3 million that ESPN was shocked how low he went considering he played a big role in the Cards getting to the World Series.

Stats-wise, he's producing well above his value to the point of earlier in the season and at certain times he became the Red Sox best hitter.

The Cubs have put quite a nice little run here, ladies and germs.

They are now "just" 15 games under .500, 13.5 back in the Central Division and 12 games back in the Wild Card.

Heck, if I was Epstein, I wouldn't trade anyone away, I'd just ride this and see what happens. Deal with trades and free agency in the offseason.

But that won't happen.

Red Sox would be a lot better off with Beckett not pitching than having him in games. Last 3 games he's given up 10 runs alone in the first inning.

The team is 1-6 in the last 7 games he's pitched and it seems after every game he has some sort of excuse or illness.

The NY media is trying to blame Santana's no hitter for the fact that his season has gone down the drain since then. Santana is denying it and frankly I don't buy it either. It was over a month and a half ago. He's had a couple of good starts since then as well. But he's been getting hit hard for the most part and is no longer locating his pitches. It's just a really rough spell.

Wouldn't be averse to him skipping his next start or something even though they can ill afford to give up games, like they are today with fucking Miguel Batista starting while Matt Harvey sits by idly in the minors.

And besides, even if Santana's struggles ARE related to the no-no...it was still worth it. That game was probably like a top 3 moment for me in my time as a Mets fan. I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Jeter ehhhhhh. He's very good but I don't think he's better than Larkin. Jeter definitely benefited from batting in front of some stellar lineups. And Jeter's glove is nowhere near as good as Larkin's.

According to ESPN, the Ichiro deal will only be good if the Yanks get the old Ichiro and either Swisher, someone else, or both struggle once coming back. The fact the Mariners were willing to give cash means they really wanted Ichiro gone if given the opportunity.

Since the Marlins traded Sanchez, I assume the Red Sox either will back out from trade talks with the Marlins because they wanted both Sanchez and Johnson or rumors of Hanley being included end up being true.

ESPN is obviously overlooking the fact that Gardner isn't coming back this year. This move basically replaces Gardner with someone with the exact same skills for the rest of the year.

I think this move is great for the Yankees. What they gave up was well worth taking a chance on Ichiro hoping it can rejuvenate him to play for a contender. They gave up a guy they picked off waivers earlier this year and a guy thats upside is that of a back-end starter or more likely bullpen arm. And they only pay 2M of his remaining deal.

Ibanez and Jones can go back to splitting time at DH which is the reason they were signed in the offseason to begin with.

Atlanta should toss Chip Caray in the deal as well, so he can once again do Cubs' play-by-play.

Any Atlanta fan would give you fucking Chip Caray. Worst sportscaster I've ever had to hear regularly.

And Randall Delgado isn't great now, but he will be a damn good pitcher one day, I would think. Definitely the brightest of the young ones the Braves have right now.

I would sooner kill myself than ever listen to Chip Caray call a Chicago Cubs game ever again.

Delgado is a great get for Dempster. He's probably the top pitching prospect in about 20 other farm systems, but the Braves are loaded.

Whoa. Tigers get Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante for top prospect Jacob Turner. That's a big price to pay for a good utility guy and a pitcher who's a free agent at the end of the year.

Tigers are fucking.dumb. They could have gotten Garza and Jeff Baker or something for Turner

Straight Up? Maybe I haven't been paying much attention to the Tigers and Turner and seen how good Turner was. It was 3 player deal but are you sure that the Cubs would have said yes to BOTH of those guys being traded? Seems a bit low to me, but like I said I may not know anything about the Tigers or their pitchers/farm system. The more I think about Garza and Baker being on the Tigers I keep thinking that the Cubs would have at least asked for Porcello along with those 3. Now, that could have probably got it done IMO. But, once again maybe the 3 players the Marlins got, are way better then I am thinking.

RP
07-24-2012, 06:53 AM
No, Cubs would want more than just Turner, but why trade your top guy for a pitcher who's nowhere near Garza's level and isn't even signed past this season. I mean, was Infante that important to them? They could of given up a little more and got Baker and Garza, who's locked up for four years and is awesome in the American League. Hell he's awesome if he gets run support and decent defense.

Red Sox were pretty stacked at the 1B position before his trade even at the minors level so the trade at the time did seem like the Red Sox won easily. He wasn't the top prospect in the trade (Casey Kelly was while Rizzo was ranked 3rd). The issue with Rizzo was his power was full of raw potential but not consistent enough like with the issue of Lars Anderson who is another power hitter the Sox has and also plays 1st base.

A-Gon was meant more to replace Manny's numbers and help protect Ortiz's numbers from dropping more after Manny left.

Now the trade looks a lot worse mostly because Rizzo's revival with the Cubs and A-Gon struggling a bit. Padres probably regret trading him as well even though the guy who traded for him now works for the Cubs which is how they got him.

The Trop isn't horrible, TBH. It does appear that way on tv, but when you go to a game, it's not that bad.

I've always been a little "irked" that the Diamondbacks (who debuted alongside the Rays in 1998) got an All Star Game, along with other stadiums that were built later than that, but the Rays never held one.
