How bad does it make Wales look though? ;)

Still, nothing can be said really. Incompetence of the highest order. Are you worried yet Wengerland :nono:

Yes :o

Cant' defend that, it was shit. I'm not going to demand that Sven be sacked but everyone's made their minds up anyway. Hopefully Curbishley gets the job when Sven gets sacked. We're in a good position still though.

Against Wales i wasn't concerned because we created chances and finishing was all that was lacking at times, tonight we didn't create any clear cut chances and got what we deserved. Northern Ireland closed us down whereas Wales stayed back and let us have possession, and the players didn't like it, which is difficult to take.

SWP did bugger all but give it away, to be fair. In saying that no-one had a good, or even average, game.

I wouldn't mind Pearce taking over at some stage, but probably in the future. I mean he's only had 14 league games as a manager or something. I suppose Allardyce will be a main contender and is successful, just through playing shit football.

Anyway, Leicester are, and always will be, a bigger concern for me, so whatever happens will happen really. RBF's said before 'the players don't care about representing England so why should i bother supporting them as passionately' or something like that, i feel the same after that.

Actually that was what i meant :o i don't see them every week to be fair but whenever i have they've just hoofed it up to Davies and gone from there. I'm sure Allardyce wouldn't have been moaning about Chelsea playing "long pass" if he didn't appreciate that his team were quite direct.

One thing he'd do if he was in charge was instill some passion in the players, personally i believe if they're pulling on the Three Lions then them playing with passion should be a given, but clearly not.

again, i apologise, i just hear so many people at working calling the whites, when they dont see them play, but yeah, like boltons tactics or not, he's got all these players playing there heart out for the reebok faithful everyweek, when all they were orignally viewed as was mercenries, i dont perticualr want to see my team without there manager, but i think he'd do better then any of the other options, but then again this is the fa, and we all know they wont do jack

Wengerland
09-07-2005, 07:02 PM
I don't want to get into an argument about how Bolton play football but that is my opinion, they can play football and like i say, do play it around if Davies doesn't win the aerial challenge but when they played Everton it was horrible to watch and both sides contributed to that.

People could have said Leicester played terrible football when we were in the premiership, even under O'Neill, i'd have accepted that cause i recognise that we weren't pretty to watch then and Adams just plays hoofball.

That's fair enough and i apologise for generalising if it's not always the case. Whether i have liked the football or not is irrelevent considering the success Big Sam has had at Bolton. I'm not sure whether he'd want the England job with Bolton in Europe though.

I wouldn't want McLaren really, he's on the staff now and it isn't helping and Doink doesn't seem to like him and i read elsewhere that Boro fans preferred Robson's style of football, if not results.

All those people calling for Svens sacking: don't be so fucking stupid.

1) It would cost SHITLOADS to sack him on his current contract so no go for FA
2) Do you really think sacking the manager with two games to go is going to give the new manager enough time to do anything
3) Although the formation failed spectacularly it also has to be said that all the players yesterday apart from Robinson and Beckham played VERY poorly

I'm not saying he's good but I would say that he is still by far the best available. People forget that it would have been 7 competitive wins in a row if we won last night. And I know its the manner of defeat that is shocking and abysmal but what are the alternatives. It was a historically shambolic result there's no denying that but if we win our next to games and qualify none of you will give a shit.

Till we lose in the quarters and WC again.

I'm not especially calling for his head but

1) Take it out of the player's wages for being so inept

2) This isn't Ron Atkinson coming in with a couple months left to try and avoid relegation, it's the fucking most talented England team in at least 20 years. They shouldn't need much coaching or motivation, just someone to pick the team and get them playing to their strengths. Do you really think there's anyone who would be considered who wouldn't have any idea at all about how to do that?

3) Up to now Robinson playing well has been a given, mostly cause we've been playing sub-standard teams but still. Beckham played well because there was no-one around him all game. If they tried that against, say, Eire, Keane would've (in footballing terms) raped him all night. Also to a certain extent how are Lampard and Gerrard meant to get into the game when he pings the ball over their heads all night?

1) lol if that happened that would be great
2) Who do you propose to do this exactly? If its so simple how come Mcclaren hasn't stepped in and sorted it out? International teams don't get much time to train together - if a new person comes in do they even have a friendly to try stuff out? (I don't think they do but I don't really know)
3) Indeed. Beckham I think has been shit for England for ages. Drop him back and he pings em around great but as you said Lampard and Gerrard suffer. The formation is shit no doubt and doesn't help but if Lampard and Gerrard need Beckham to pass to them just to do something in the game then they are playing shite too.

Do you seriously think these players are playing for the good of their country and for an 'england cap' to put with their collection ?

Get real, the FA prob have to pay the clubs to release the players, they defo pay the players and then they will give them win bounes etc on top of that.

The game is too money orientated now-a-days and the players yet again show they dont give a damn, its not like Robson, Butcher, Pearce & Moore are playing anymore, yes they will have recieved a cash bonus for playing but all those guys would bleed for the cause and do anything to make sure England got a result. You name me one player like that now?

Mclaren is not the man for the job, Sven SHOULD be sacked as this will give the new guy time to assess what he has and has the time to pick the side that actually gives a fuck and wants to win. IMO if Sven stays, we will be lucky to get past the group stages, should we even make it that far.

Rooney is a child who really really needs to grow up, so fuck you werent getting the ball and playing out of position. ROONEY you are paid to play football, if the manager puts you in goal, you play there.

Actually Doink the clubs pay the players wages whenever they are playing internationals. Have you never heard a manager complain something along the lines of "x got injured playing internationals. This is an outrage because we pay his wages!" etc etc.

From the economist:

"But perhaps the biggest example of the anti-commercial impulses that run through the game is the World Cup itself. Football clubs around the world have to lend billions of dollars-worth of talent to their national sides, free of charge. The clubs will pay the players' wages throughout the tournament, and have to accept that their precious stars may return exhausted or even injured."

09-08-2005, 12:22 PM
the players will recieve a financial benifit from playing for their country, the clubs stil pay the wages as the players are on contracts so the club cant stop a payment because the player is on international duty, the only thing a club can do is refuse to release the player.

Do you honestly think that a player is going to travel half way across the world off his own back and play for his country? seriously what is in it for the player unless there is a financial offer for him?

the clubs are pissed off as they run the risk of the player being injured for which they will get no compensation if he is.

Something about REPRESENTING YOUR COUNTRY perhaps?

packt up
09-08-2005, 12:31 PM
Everyone wants to represent their country I should hope. The reasons for that are personal but I would like to think that everyone just wants to have the honour of putting on an England shirt. Its like when Chris Sutton refused to play for the England B Team the stupid prick. The thing is when playing for your country money shouldn't be the motivating factor. Club football is a totally different thing.

The only financial benefit I can see players getting is some sort of performance bonus like "win the world cup and we'll give you some money". Just playing for their country raises their profile hugely and is enough of a "financial" bonus.

Why are the English public after Bobby Robson? He is past it. I respect the hell out of him but the players don't have the professional respect for him now. He lost the dressing room at Newcastle and had no answers to solve their problems. Plus he is miles too old. They need an active coach. Erikkson is a joke. Always has been. Only ever won the championship at Lazio in his career and I could do that if I had £90 million to spend (thus nearly killing the club so nice management skills there too by the way).

09-08-2005, 05:14 PM
The funny thing is I actually called this a few weeks ago,I think it was in a pm to doink.I said a defeat for england in the qualifiers is right around the corner for us, I based that opinion on our performances in the qualifiers.Last night was no shock to me, well it was abit I guess at first but it was only a matter of time. Sven keeps getting away with lcucy results due to the quality of our squad. It's just aswell we have such a good defence overall because otherwise we would not of got away with the results we have.

For example, we could only beat azaberjian 1-0 i think it was, yet Poland batter them 8-0!Then we hear excuses from Beckham saying 'well every team in europe is orgnaized now'..what aload of crap.Yeah i'm sure getting beat 8-0 is a sign of an organized team!

Then there's the playing players out of position rubbish that Sven does.Look at Andy Johnson, look at Joe cole yesterday, he's also too scared to drop either gerrard/lampard.Them two can not play together, i'm convinced about that.I would drop gerrard as his performances for england haven't been that impressive, imo.

Then there's the not making good sue of friendlies to give young up and coming players a chance rubbish, Sven has made us think that friendlies are rubbish by doing all those subs so that if he loses then he wont get blamed. Well I think that plan has backfired on him. When Downing could've had a proper debut to solve our left side problem, he gave downing like 10 mins or something. He then plays Johnson on the right side of fucking midfield when he's a striker. That's just plain stupidity and it shows me he doesn't care for the future of our countries football.I don't think he cares whether we win the world cup or not either, i'm sure the players do, but Sven isn't doing his part.

We'll struggle a 1-0 win out of Austria, and we'll get a draw in poland, no way will we win both.

Rob
09-08-2005, 07:14 PM
I hate the term "friendlies" too. There aren't friendlies in international football. It's meant the be the height of your career when you pull on your national jersey. Doesn't matter if it's against Brazil in the friendly or Ivory Coast in the World Cup. Players should play like every international could be their last game for their country. Only in Britain do people take a dim view of friendlies. If Brazil and Argentina take these games seriously then we are fools if we don't. Look at Scotland's record with Berti Vogts. We barely won a friendly that apparently don't mean much. It did however drop us like 50 places in the world rankings and made us a total laughing stock (as opposed to just be the glorious losers we were before).

Doink
09-09-2005, 03:57 PM
I agree with everything TL and Rob have said so far!

In fact Doink your talking total shit. If your telling me every single player who plays at the World Cup is doing it for financial reasons and not because they want their country to do well your a fucking head case.

I'm not saying that money is the only reason they play however it is a factor, IMO all players who play at international level will recieve money for playing from their countrys FA however it is in an indivividuals display as to if they are doing it for the love of their country or not. Look at beckham, there are times when he plays and ou can see it means so much to him that he does everything he can to try and win (ala stu pearce in his day) but then there are times where he looks as tho its a chore to pull on the england shirt. This happens with too many players.

IMO players do recieve money to play for national team however your opinion may differ, i have no problem with that.

Anyway to do what the FA have done and take the heat away from sven and england...... CHELSEA DRUG TEST THEIR OWN PLAYERS !!!!

so fuck, i think this is a good idea as they will find thwe cheats before the fa but not to con the fa, i believe they do it for the good of the game, if they know someone is on drugs from their own tests, they will not play this player until is clean and will sure as hell fine him. The only problem i see with that is that the FA cant ban him for a month (or 10months if he misses a test). The player is unlikly to play anyway so where is the problem.

Chelsea are trying to not cheat there opponents by doing these tests IMO so from me i give a :y: and believe other clubs should do it aswell.

In contrast to Portsmouth who were always looking to work the ball into the feet of their pacy front pair, Everton's attacking efforts were one-dimensional as they looked to find the head of Ferguson and hope Marcus Bent could feed off his knock-downs.

But for all their huff and puff, Everton's attacking ploy consisted of little more than lumping the ball forward for Beattie and Ferugson. Portsmouth, in turn, heaped the bodies behind the ball and cleared the second-ball when it dropped.

The good news is that we will play our home leg second – on Wednesday November 16th – in Sydney. So the home game, probably the biggest in many of our players’ careers, will be the decider! The team will be able to travel home from South America, hopefully having acquitted ourselves well there, and knowing exactly what will be required to qualify for Germany.

I just swore RBF had already told me 3 of them the other day, i thought Johnson may have been capped but wasn't sure.

Rab did fuck up aswell to be fair, fumbled a fairly straightforward cross but it didn't cost us. Some of the stick he's got here is far too harsh, i judge players on what they do for us and aside from his league debut he's been fine.

Barcelona just won 2-0, good to see after the Bolton-Blackburn game.

On the whole Joaquin to Liverpool thing

While its obviously September, and if we did sign him, he'd cost a small fortune. I've got a good feeling that some sort of deal may well be done.

Just as a bit of a conspiracy theory, on Liverpool's website, they always put up any media rumours.....they haven't with Joaquin. Also, when a player is strongly linked, its usually a hot topic on the forums (which it is) however, when they have a particularly hot topic, they put it up on the front page....again, not done.

Maybe I'm just being a tad hopeful.....

The Veron sending off was utterly hilarious....imagine if that happened to Arsenal in the Premiership

Why was everyone saying Lampard score a wonder goal, when clearly it was the keepers fault

It would be nice to think it would however there is too much inconsistancy with refs for it to happen.

The last time I can remeber a player being booked for something like this was gazza when he played for rangers. The ref dropped his yellow card so gazza picked it up and pretended to book the ref, who swiftly booked gazza for doing this.

There are prob loads more but thats the one that sticks in my mind. The refs do take to much shit from the players, but i for one dont want to see them giving out bookings everytime a player has a word etc. It would ruin the game.

However if the player is blatently taking the piss alla rooney then yeh book him.

We won but the game was boring as hell. Maccarone yet again puts in a man of the match display and yet again Mclaren takes him off. Emerson looked good on his return and was recieved well untill he had a go at pogetetz for not putting the ball out when a man was down (swiftly followed the 'who the fucking hell are you' chants along with some 'im surprised your wife let you come to middlesbrough as she wouldnt let you when you played for us').

Mclaren has the nerve to complain that the fans stayed away, It's called learning from experience. Last season he played negative side's with no flair, last season for the same stage of the competition tickets were about £15, this season we have played crap in our last 3 home games. So what does Mclaren do about this?

He yet again plays a negative team which was a weakened team in reality and we increase the prices to £20, its no wonder the fans stay away, I wish i had, i rushed like mad to get there for kick off and I was bored shitless.

there seems to be a hamstring curse at newcastle, Owen has a history of hamstring trouble so i wouldnt be surprised if he gets injured soon. It was the same with boro last year, we had a broken leg and knee ligiment damage curse all picked up in training which is what pissed me off the most.

I'm not against players having a word with the ref or anything, but (and I know there's loads more examples of this) things like Alan Smith clearly telling the ref to fuck off in the manchester derby shouldn't be tolerated, refs need to grow a set really.

Thants a good example of when they should get sent off, if he told the ref to fuck off then the ref shouuld say why dont you and show him the red.

There was a game in my league a few years back that was abandend after the ref sent someone off for swearing at him. The guy he sent off punched the ref then went to his car and came back with a crowbar ready to attack the ref with it. The game was called after the ref ran off to his car and drove away  The ref no longer refs and the guy was banned for life from our league

I don't know if they've actually got a chance, but i could see where they're coming from on the winning goal. A free-kick was played in long, an Espanyol player was pulled down and the referee blew his whistle, only for some other guy to head it in a split second later so the ref allowed it. I don't know the ins and outs of the rule book, but i'd have thought if the ref blows his whistle then it would have to stop, even though he was going to give a penalty.

Wooooooo badly needed win after a shite couple weeks. 11 points off the top :o  but we've got 2 games this week that realistically (assuming we don't get any more injuries) we should win, so we could make up some ground. 5th will do for now though.

Just watched the first half of our match at Bolton and anyone who thinks Bolton's main course of attack isn't a long ball to Davies is wrong. Simple as.

We've played some nice football, short passing on the deck and knocking it about, they've played their usual high ball to Davies. Yet we're losing.

Oh well, i can honestly say i'd rather lose playing good football.</font>

I think we could've had a draw maybe, don't think we did enough to win it. For some reason neither Dejan nor O'Brien could win ANYTHING in the air ahead of Davies and the second ball caused us loads of problems. I can't believe Nolan missed that chance.

The goal looked off side but thats the way our lucks going at the moment so i wont bother whinging about that. Aside from the goal neither side worked the keeper but there was a few moments of panic in each box.

From the looks of it, you've made the pitch smaller for some reason, you could see the lines had been repainted and a few yards had been taken off each end and side. I wonder why that was :?:

Yeah for whatever reason bolton like a small pitch, its the way we play all our prem games, unfortunatly its too small for ueafa standards, so we have to widen the field before ueafa games, so it was prolly those lines that you saw,

no i didnt go, had to give up my season ticket cause im moving to the us in a few months but i watched the game on prem plus, as for the goal being offside, it was close but the linesmen gave the attacker the benefit of the doubt,

By the way, I was at Old Trafford last night sitting amongst the "united fans" and not the tourist prawn sandwitch lot who are meant to go on Saturdays. After the game, all I heard was "the crowd was great" and "they sang Ferguson's name" and the rest. Bullshit. Only Arsenal are quieter. It's like chairs dressed as people. Aside from the odd "United!" chant now and again, silence. They never once sung Ferguson's name either.

As for talk about the team. They seem to forget we have one of what would normally be our back four. They also speak out their arses. For a start, they don't like Darren Fletcher yet all he does is run his heart out trying but they love Paul Scholes who, in my opinion, is way past his best and hasn't won a tackle in 3 years. If Scholes gets tackled and then goes to get the ball back... guaranteed foul.

Talk about 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 formations is shite. We are Manchester FUCKING United. If we can't put out 11 players who can play in any formation like class players then they don't deserve to be playing. Simple as that. Right now, defence is shite and the midfield ain't much better. Neither can win a freaking tackle. Yeah we got a result but Chelsea or any top European team would have smashed us last night.

We'll fucking win this, just Jose better know what he is doing, 55-60 minutes and sort it out Jose, get Joey Cole on for the last 15-20 too, and Wright-Phillips, their full backs aren't good enough, we should be annhilating them down the flanks.

I was in the East Stand top tier. It was the noisest stand purely because when the Benfica fans started to sing, we tried to match them. Rest of the stadium was pin drop atmosphere.

Formation isn't a problem. We have done in off and on for years and nobody noticed. Maybe we lost to Blackburn because our defence and midfield can't tackle to save their lives. I'd give my left nut to have Quinton Fortune back now, nevermind the regulars!

When we played you the East Stand Lower tried to sing, they didn't do a good job tbh and by half time they didn't sing again I don't think.

I think your first eleven is as good as anyones, when Keane and Scholesy are playing well that is. But to be fair I don't rate Silvestre, I reckon Brown should play more then him, and I don#t rate Neville.

Van Der Sar

Neville Ferdinand Brown Heinze

Ronaldo Keane Scholes Giggs (or Park)

Rooney
Van Nistelrooy

Thats what I'd play if everyone was fit and in form. I reckon you just need a new centre back in the summer, and Smith needs to learn to play in midfield. I don't buy this whole players can't adjust to a different position, Gudjohnsen played better in midfield then up front for us. if you play a 4-5-1 then at least play Smithy in the middle of the park so he can learn off Keane and Scholes.

I think our only real problem is creativity. We're missing a lot in midfield but the thing that's really apparently to me is that we never get any dangerous balls played in. Every goal I seem to remember thus far this season is either Ruud catching onto a rebound or someone else taking a screamer from out of nowhere. We got like 3 shots on target a match if we're lucky, and none of them look like bonafide chances to me.

You are complaining because you are an idiot. I can remember Roy Keane well from his early days at Forest, and Fletcher is already a better footballer at that age. Fletcher can win the ball, put in excellent crosses, keep possession, track back, get forward all in one neat package. He's been Man of the Match for me on a number of occasions for Manchester United.

Contrast that to Cristiano Ronaldo, who you cream over, who is inconsistent, wasteful and generally has fuck all end-product for all the flashy build-up. Aside from a run of goals towards the end of last season, his general contribution to Manchester United's play is to sky the ball over the bar, gift possession to the opposition or put in a shite cross.

Still think he'll be a great player, but I'd rather have a player who's going to help the team win games on a regular basis. Strangely, Ronaldo seems to play an awful lot better for Portugal, who incidentally can make that 4-3-2-1 formation work.

Liam Miller wasn't really a future star a few years ago. He suffered badly from injuries in his early years and didn't get a chance until a loan spell in Norway, then he came back and played some great football in the Champions League.

Allardyce has forged a superb reputation at the Reebok Stadium by taking his club into Europe, and he has been linked with the national job when Sven-Goran Eriksson eventually stands down.

"If people consider me for it, yes, I would be very interested indeed," he told FourFourTwo magazine. "I'd love to be interviewed, but I have to keep doing well to get in the frame."

He added: "When Roy Hodgson started at Blackburn he was held up as an Englishman who'd learned all the better stuff abroad and should manage the national team.

"Eighteen months later he was sacked and never heard of again. It's a myth, anyway, that foreign managers are better.

"We've created this image that they do it much better than us but we're on a par - in some cases we do things better."

Eriksson was criticised for changing his formation for the defeat to Northern Ireland recently, but Allardyce defended David Beckham's new role in central midfield.

"He was excellent in that role," Allardyce said.

"Beckham wasn't anything but a success. The amount of ball he had was huge. The problem was the ones he was passing to."

For the love of God someone shut this man up.

Birmingham's Emile Heskey could make an England return against Austria at Old Trafford next Saturday. (Telegraph)

GET IN

Darren Bent should start after his performances, but Bruno deserves a place in the squad.

Conceded a late equaliser against Derby, hadn't done that in a while.

"There was a fluency about their play that was unrecognisable to regular watchers. Maybe it was their new formation, which was about as fluid as it gets. Total Football comes to Fratton."
