I'm 7 for 9 so far in Pick'Em this week, thats out of all the games that are finished. Right now I have Seattle looking to mop up and get me another point, but Dallas has to rally against the 49er's if I'm to get a point there.

Whooooooooooooo sweet win. Archuleta finally had a big play on defense, 85 yard INT return for a TD. This game kinda reminded me of the superbowl the Rams and the Titans had some years ago.

What happend to Martin, haven't read anything on him, after him being banged up last week.

I did see Pennington left and Fielder got injured and Pennington came back, but looked injured... didn't he say last week his shoulder hasn't healed?

Wonder where Vinny T is...

Nervous Ferret
09-25-2005, 09:49 PM
Martin had a very laqckluster game. Probably about 20 rushes, 60 yards. But he is just not hitting holes at all. Like it seems he lost "it" or whatever you would call it.

Pennington got a "strained shoulder", when he got the ball stripped from behind, I don't think he planned on returning but Fiedler was also injured (I didn't catch the injury as it happened right at the end of the Yankee game), so Penny came back and played like utter shit, I'd be willing to bet he completely ruined his rotator cuff again :wavesad:

I suddenly see a poop season from the Jets. Is Reggie Bush eligible next year? :(

Also good to see the Giants finally play a decent team

That New England vs Pitt game was great. Me and a friend bet lap dances on each game every week and take turns picking them. Well my friend is a huge Pitt fan and since i was down 7 lap dances and soon to be going to the strip club for my birthday in a month or so... I told him i'd bet every lap dance that was available this week and take New England. Him being the Pitt fan he is, he jumped on this. Now i'm +7 in the lap dance winnings. Cashing in Oct 25th.

Theres no way New England loses two in a row. No way. I was watching that game all the way threw and honestly, not once did i begin to worry that i might have to buy lap dances on my b-day ( that would suck ). I never really got the feeling that the Pats were gunna lose that game. Not once... Thats scary.

I wish i could be Jake Plummer. Be the most talent filled shitty QB in the league. Live like a hippy in Denver and not ever hear anyone complain about it. Make the playoffs, make an extra pay check, cash it in, in the first round and go home and enjoy the offseason.

Must be nice.

Gonzo
09-26-2005, 08:18 PM
I don't think he was ever that great of a QB anyways. I mean its a shame and all, but I don't think he was that great.

VonErich Lives
09-26-2005, 08:24 PM
I dunno, he never fully healed from the surgery, have it now, and plenty of time to recover he should be ok.

Harrison they're saying could be done, age factor, the lost step from an ACL combined with his position.

Last year when you'd list patirots you'd least like to lose, and 2 of the top 4, possible top 3 are gone (Bruschi & Harrison).

Plus Matt Light is out for awhile with a broken bone below the knee.

Also, the Bills lost Spikes for the year, ACL.

Travis Henry out 4 weeks for substance abuse.

On a side note, everyone says kickers aren't players... Akers gets big points for playing through pain yesterday.

On a side note, everyone says kickers aren't players... Akers gets big points for playing through pain yesterday.

Yeah, as much as I hate the Eagles, I gotta give the guy props

Also, WTF is up with Larry Allen roughing up Cortez after missing an Extra Point? It happens...no need to punch the guy...if you're gonna do that, you may as well smack the QB around after every interception

Nervous Ferret
09-26-2005, 09:04 PM
Chad PEnnigton is a terrible QB. He is a great motivator, and makes everyone around him better, but as far as arm stregth, accutacy, and awareness go, he is in the lowe half of the league. But I love the guy.

Gonzo
09-26-2005, 09:08 PM
He is pretty accurate I think but he has no arm strength. I don't know if he was playing hurt on Sunday but on the two long throws I saw they were short, the receivers had to come back for them, but couldn't get to them.

RoXer
09-26-2005, 09:41 PM
This is Cortez's like 3rd missed EP though. I remember he missed 2 with San Fran.

Gonzo
09-26-2005, 09:50 PM
Missing EP's as an NFL kicker is terrible. Remember when Carney missed one and kept the Saints out of the playoffs? LOL.

RoXer
09-26-2005, 09:54 PM
Yeah. I still think that was intentional.

road doggy dogg
09-26-2005, 09:57 PM
Yeah that Carney FG was the most ROFL thing in NFL EVER. They did that insane crazy return to supposedly tie the game, and make the playoffs, then he missed the extra point, that was so piss funny

BCWWF
09-26-2005, 10:04 PM
I don't get how an NFL kicker can miss an extra point. The kickers at my high school probably made 15/20 on average, if not better, for any legit D-1A team a extra point is basically automatic, but then in the pro's you have guys like Doug Brien who misses them. WTF.

BCWWF
09-26-2005, 10:45 PM
So there was a clock mistake in the Patriots game. Apparently there was an extra 52 seconds added onto the fourth quarter.

That Harrison injury is huge. He was your swagger.

el fregadero
09-27-2005, 03:14 AM
Probably won't affect them that much. They have done pretty well with no Bruschi this year, and did pretty well last year when they used waterboys at corner.

VonErich Lives
09-27-2005, 03:44 AM
Yeah, Harrison will hurt or more the combo of 2 of your ventran leaders, plus Ted Johnson gone.

Mcginist and seymour will probably become the "leaders" on defense. Wilson will need to step it up, fast.

Light worries me more, putting a rookie at Left Tackle, will also force our TE's to stay in to block, when Watson should be down field destroying DB's.

As for missing XP's, how? Simple "it happens" no one is perfect, bad snap, field conditions, wind, wrong spot, no one is perfect.

As for Pennington (can't believe I'm defending a Jet) he's not a bad QB, he finished last season injured, has played not 100% this year.

The big problem is, the guy gets hurt every year, so no one really knows. I think if healthy for a year, he'd be fine, Not a Manning/Brady but in the 2nd tier of QB's.

Crimson
09-27-2005, 11:38 AM

Sunday Oct. 2
Buffalo at New Orleans (San Antonio, TX)
Denver at Jacksonville
Detroit at Tampa Bay
Houston at Cincinnati
Indianapolis at Tennessee
San Diego at New England
Seattle at Washington
St. Louis at N.Y. Giants
N.Y. Jets at Baltimore
Dallas at Oakland
Minnesota at Atlanta
Philadelphia at Kansas City
San Francisco at Arizona

Monday, Oct. 3

Bruschi and the team has said a few times he's not playing this year, however they put him on the injured list that would allow him to return after week 6. Now when asked he says "no comment".

If he wants to and is medically clear, I'd be happy to see him back, I just don't want another Reggie Lewis.

My thoughts on Week 4:

1) The Texans got screwed on that fumble call towards the end of the game against the Bengals. Not that they would have went on to score, but still it was pretty obvious.

Pollard Look in bounds, but my question would be to you guys.... How much time does the ball need to be in your in hands for it to be a catch and how would that be decided when a play like what happend in Detroit happend. I'm curious to hear what the league has to say about that play. I thought he had the TD .

2) Lorenzo Neal is one of the best players in the NFL. I dont care what you say. Give this guy some fucking love.

3) Peyton Manning hasnt been sacked in 4 games. Maybe the NFL will pull there heads out of KC's ass and give the O-line a Pro Bowl selection or two.

4) In two years Eli may be the better Peyton . He's learning faster then Peyton did. His feet arent as happy. They are alot more calm . He might have a stronger arm. I think i'm gunna go buy a Eli jersey tommorow.

5) Patriots wtf! I dont think we will be hearing how great Tom Brady is this week , but seriously, Lorenzo Neal fuck your shit up.

I saw a little of the 1st qtr, that was it, so I'm going off stats.

completed around 60%, 1 TD, 1 INT late in the game, 245yds.

Looks like the Defense lost the game. SD really contorlled the ball and kept the Pats offense off the field, of course that's Brady's fault.

62yds in penalties didn't help either.

Interesting stat, before yesterdays game, the Saints hadn't stopped anyone on 3rd down with 6 or less to go.

Make reads and complete passes? ok, then what else is a QB supposed to do?

Maybe, stay calm under pressure?

Maybe, have 2 last min drives in the biggest game of the year?

Oh and against Pittsburg, 4th qtr he was 12/12. Yeah, that does mean something in the 4th qtr of a big game when your team is down.

Best in the game now? Sure, till someone else does what he does on a regular basis.

Best ever? Nope, not yet. Of course everyone is already comparing him to Montana the same way they're comparing Manning to Marino, and the question is always asked between Montana & Marino who was the better QB, one broke records, one won games.

Anyways, we all know where you were trying to go with this, so I'll leave ya alone. :)

Gonzo
10-04-2005, 03:07 PM
This argument about Brady being the best ever or whatever spawns a better one. Should there be different categories for best ever? At the quarterback position you have the guys who can pass and pass and score touchdowns. On the other hand there are guys that flat out win games by any means necessary. Another example at running back, you have the pass catching backs, the 30 carry a game RB's and the balanced RB. Is it fair to simply dub someone "best" at their position or should it be broken up?

RP
10-04-2005, 03:18 PM
I think when you are talking about a person who may or may not be the best at there positions. All team accomplishments should be thrown out. Superbowl rings ect. How do you say Brady is the best QB in the league because his team was amazing and won 3 rings. Not saying he didnt have a hand in that, but still. I think you judge the best by what he does. Not his team. Brady is one of the best. Honestly. I think him and Manning are neck and neck now. I would have said Manning no doubt last year, but i was impressed with Brady vs Pitt and i've been very impressed with his skills.

LT is clearly the best RB. Its no doubt. He doesnt have to have rings. Its so obviously clear. Alexander is a short second, but he's no where near as good as LT is.

12-12 was good. That was special considering the circumstanceds, but it was nothing to boost him over Manning as the best in the league. Just put him neck and neck i think. If Brady would have did like Manning did against the Chargers last year and send the punt team back off the field and convince the coach to let him run the 4th down play at there own 20 with the game on the line and complete it, then go down and get the TD. I might consider him as good and maybe better.

I'm starting to think that until Manning wins this ring this year , its near impossible to compare the two because no matter what gets said, the whole rings argument gets brought up.

Gonzo
10-04-2005, 03:32 PM
I think as far as game mechanics and taking charge of his team Brady has every one upped. In Manning's case he is brilliant, audibling and has the ability to torch any defense in the league. They're totally different players so its tough to say if one is hands down better than the other.

But how does one do that?

Do you take away a QB not getting sacked because that's his OL/FB blocking?

What about completion %, shouldn't that credit go to his WR's?

As for the "big game" thing, There are regular season big games, the Pats lost one to Pitt last year, and then beat them in a bigger game (AFC Championship!)

Also, I didn't bring up the Pitt game this year to say why Brady is better, I brought it up because you said

What's going on in Appleton?

APPLETON(AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a Appleton, Wis.
courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who
should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his
parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping
with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be
maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he
proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly
refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with
his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After
considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that
domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took
the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have
custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child
welfare

Yeah, around here we're not 100% sure what to make of it.

These Pats teams have NEVER talked about the past, game 1 after a superbowl win, they aren't defending champs they're 0-0, winless. To see Brady respond, especially Wednesday was suprising. Also, I think McGinist said something.

Typically, any response to another team has been via the team "mouth peice" which was Harrison, so we're thinking Brady is trying to step into the role and give the team a kick in the ass.

On a side note, I didn't see anyone talk about it, but during the Pittsburg game when Matt Light was injured the Steelers trainer came over on the field to see if he could help (common to see trainers and docs help each other). Well, Belicheck barked at him "get away from my fucking players" or something like that. Even funnier is apperently the Pats didn't have supplies with them, and then after had to borrow an air cast and crutches from the Steelers. I love Bill, but that's funny.

Haha I know, but I just had to post it.

LOL word, it is pretty funny. Just makes it less funny that it's my favorite team. :'(

Hey, I can look at one positive thing though. We are still in the thick of things, haha

I seriously think Nolan picked the worst game to start Alex Smith. The Colts D are playing some of the best football in the NFL. Manning is gunna have a field day so you know the 49ers will be playing from behind all day. I'll be shocked if Ratay isnt in there by the 4th quarter as a mercy substitution.

Oh yah VEL. PLease do make that excuses thread you mentioned. That way i dont have to go back through 30 pages and cut and paste famous VEL quotes for hours.

Joey Harrington is such a piece of crap QB. Alex Smith is better then Harrington and he hasnt even played an actual regular season game. I would be so shitty right now if Harrington was my QB. That team has so much potential, but Harrington refuses to not suck.

Detroit is up 21-10 , but i'm almost positive Joey Harrington will find a way not to win this game. He always does.

Joey Harrington would be amazing if the football field was only 10 yards long.

How is it that here, in Arizona, we don't watch the Arizona game.

Not even the Dallas game, and there is a bigger Cowboys following here than the Cardinals.

LOL @ the Ravens. 21 penalties for 147 yards? You're telling me they couldn't get one more holding penalty to tie the record? I mean, you came so far, what with the defensive holding and the roughing the passer and the unsportsmanlike conduct, it's gotta be a letdown to come that close but come up short.

Lions 2-2 still your NFC North leaders. And this was even without Charlie Rogers and with Roy Williams getting injured early. :D
