Peterson had a late hit on Reggie Wayne after he was down then a couple plays later John Henderson had some guys helmet and was basically driving it into the ground. Not much since then though, mainly cause Colts have murdered them.

Yeah, I slept through most of it, just caught the end. 14yds rushing, and 7 of those were on a QB scramble... I'd say that's being "dominated". and Losmans 10/27 didn't help... If someone did see the game, was it his throwing or players droping passes? 37% Completions...

Don't mind him, it would be easier to point out that as he quoted I said "IF" which means "IF" they beat them, never said they would... But, I'm sure if I pointed this out to him, he'd just go on another foaming at the mouth rant that makes little sense and post pictures of me or something...

Keeps the Phins alive, I think the best they can do now is tie, but that would require NE to drop 3 straight.

VonErich Lives

Tough call for the Colts now. You have nothing else to win in the regular season besides a "record" that only 1 other team has done, 16-0.

So, do you go for the record, of give you stars 3 weeks or rest, maybe just play 1qtr each game, so they're healthy and fresh for the playoffs?

I'd probably start everyone, try and run up the score early and once they have a comfy lead start sitting everyone, going 16-0 means little if you don't go undefeated in the playoffs.

Gonzo
12-11-2005, 10:51 PM
Nah I play them. Thats the most ridiculous theory ever, sit your players when you're sitting tight in first place. Saying you're going to sit your players because of a chance of injury is stupid, plus it will disrupt their momentum and chemistry. I mean c'mon, like any of the 13 games they have won the injury risk was any greater or less than the next 3? Its just a case of being paranoid.

no, the risk isn't different, but there's nothing to prove so why risk it?

Most teams that clinch a playoff spot rest their stars the last week (that's the reason most fantasy football leagues moved their championships to week 16).

Does the game count? yeah, but winning doesn't get you anything. You have a playoff spot, the division and homefield, so why risk injury? Why not have your players healthier going into the playoffs?

Has nothing to do with being paranoid, "disrupt their momentum and chemistry" now that sounds paranoid.

I have the packers/lions game on the radio and the announcers are a riot.

Riggins just rips the coaches apart for like every play they call.

and both of the announcers are just ripping on both teams, talking about fans being asleep and then when it tied "great, over-time, that's just what this game needs".

it's really funny.

So, I guess the new Monday Night Football on ESPN deal allows ESPN late in the season to pick a different game for Monday Night Football?

I'd think for people who go to away games that's gotta suck, book your hotel and everything and "guess what, it's now on Sunday or Monday".

I agree with Gonzo. You don't put a player in cold in the 4th quarter after sitting him for 2 quarters... and if a player has been on the sidelines for a week or two or three(remember, playoff Bye), you can only ease him in for a play or two here and there to get his feet under him.

Now imagine doing that with an entire team.

Now, granted, the Colts can beat a team after being down 17 points, so a slow start doesn't mean shit to them... but you can't take any risks when it's the playoffs. They're looking SuperBowl... I say just let them play a half.

I understand what your saying, but they still pratice all week, and you start them, but maybe only let them stay in 1 or 2 quaters. They do their normal pre-game warm up and then just play less, not warmup, sit for 3 qtrs and then play, although there are plenty of examples of backup QB's doing this after an injury and it doesn't seem to effect them.

Dunno, I just think if they're 14-0 and game #15, they're up 14pts in the 4th and Manning steps back and breaks a leg or something, it would be a waste of one of the greatest seasons in NFL history.

The goal is to be undefeated in the playoffs, that's what's important.

but oh well, not my team... So, I do hope they play ever single play of every single game!

How is the risk of playing 1qtr the same as playing 4qtrs?

It's not, you're playing 15mins vs. 60mins.

I'd play them a 1/2, maybe a qtr is they run up the score big... but the goal is the superbowl, and to have players healthy and rested, when other teams might have been batteling through the last week.

I think to 2003, when Antowain Smith didn't play the first half of the season, they said he was injured, but it was rumored that Belicheck held him, knowing he couldn't go a full season and it allowed him to be in mid-season form when the playoffs started.

doesn't really matter, not my team, just saying all the people going "let's go for 16-0" will rip Dungy apart is Manning gets injured.

AlphaBean
12-12-2005, 08:03 PM
Two AFCs get the Bye. Indy gets home field.

Other teams can't come close to Indy, talent-wise. I get the feeling that nobody has sacked Manning all season for some reason.

Every other team goes into the playoffs playing all of their players. The Colts and one other team will be getting a week's rest that the other teams WON'T get... the Colts are the best team in the NFL... I just don't see why they would be scared. Why would you even pull back? Why would you ACKNOWLEDGE the possibility of injury? It's the NFL... injury happens, and it happens more often when you're worrying about it. Just let the players play like it's a 16 game season.

Thats the only difference then, time. You're playing more minutes but its not like playing in the 1st Q has any different of a risk than playing in the 4th. That's a pretty big difference, 15mins vs. 60mins. 4x the amount of time.

Also, to answer you're and beans question, about "it's no different then all season" well, it is in one respect, there is nothing left to prove. You have home field through the playoffs, you can't win anything else. Also, the idea of the extra rest, less wear and tear on your guys, when others are still going full speed is a big factor also. But whatever, as I've said a few times, I don't root for them, and them being more tired or risking injury can only help the Patriots!

Like play Manning the first quarter, get a lead. Then if you lose it, but him back in to try and go for the 16-0.

You can, I wouldn't, simply because I'd worried they'd have cooled down and would be at risk for a strain/pull.

The only way you can't is if you use the 3rd string QB. Every team lists a "emergency QB" if I recall correctly, if that player come in before the 4th Qtr, then no other player listed as QB can be used. This was why a few years ago when Vinny T. went down, Toma Tupa was the QB until the 4th qtr, then I think it was Mirer came in, they had said if Mirer came in, and got injured them Tupa wouldn't have been allowed to QB or something... although Tupa was also the punter, so I'm not sure exactly how that all worked...

Bush has the potential, I just question if he has the size to take the pounding. He's not going to "run wild" like he did in college and it's a shorter season in college, if he starts week #1, lets see how he's holding up week #13, especially if he goes to a team that doesn't have a great OL.

So basiclly, I'm saying he coule be right, he could be wrong, I really don't know... it depends on what team gets him.

and No, I don't think Carroll goes pro... I did at one point, but now I think his agent is just trying to get some big NFL offers so Carrol can get a deal like Weiss got, they're looking for 5-10yrs around 3/mil a year. If Carroll gets that at USC I don't see him leaving, even if the NFL offers him more money. He loves the area, his family loves the area, he's doing well recruiting, kids want to play for him, parents want his kids to play for him, it's a great weather place to live and it's a top team that will be featured on national TV each week which is great if you're looking to be reconsied by NFL scounts and Advertising agencies. Unless Carroll really feels he has "something to prove" I don't see him leaving.

RP
12-14-2005, 04:42 AM
Carroll has nothing to prove in my opinion and i think he would be nuts to leave USC. He took the Patriots to a Superbowl. Thats all he needed to prove in the NFL. Eventually as the year go by. Maybe he jumps back into the NFL, but i cant see it happening in the next 5 years.

Actually, he never took anyone to a superbowl.

You're thinking of Bill Parcells (a little taller, heavier, etc..) He never proved anything in the NFL, with the Jets I don't think he lasted a full year, and with the Patriots he took a team that had just gone to the super bowl, and I'm not sure if he ever even won a playoff game.

That being said, I don't fault him, given some of the play calling was a little strange and I don't think he's capable of "motivating" NFL players like he can college players, but the personal decisions were horrible and that wasn't him, that was Bobby Grier, Carroll has no say in draft picks and free agents (this was a product of the Kraft/Parcelss rift... "if they want you to cook the meal, they atleast have to let you shop for some of the groceries"...

So, if Caroll was offerd a "president of football operations" job, where he'd be coach and GM, or like Billecheck has, where he is coach, he isn't GM but the GM reports to him... I could see him considering it, especially with a lot of money invovled.

That being said, I agree, he'd be nuts to leave USC, unless they don't want to "show him the money"... I mean, if USC keeps him at his current range (I think 1-1.5mil) and a pro team offers him complete control and 3-4mil? thats a lot of money to turn down, and I don't think he's that old, he could always go to college again.

Bush has the potential, I just question if he has the size to take the pounding. He's not going to "run wild" like he did in college and it's a shorter season in college, if he starts week #1, lets see how he's holding up week #13, especially if he goes to a team that doesn't have a great OL.

I really don't think his size will be too much of a problem. At 20, he's the same size as Tiki Barber and only a little smaller than Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis. He could maybe put on 5-10 pounds but he's still a solid 200 now as a 20 year old.

Really? I didn't think he was that heavy, I gussed him 170-180 range.

The big difference for any offensive player in the pro's is speed/pain factor.

Everyone is fast and everyone hits hard. Bush rarely gets hit, so how he handles taking hits will be a big factor, but yeah, if he's on a team that can block 1/2 way decent and gets 20-30 touches a game, he could be a top 5 offensive player next year.

Culpepper got a lap dance from a naked woman, and put his hands on her buttocks; McKinnie placed a woman on a bar and performed oral sex; Smoot used a sex toy on two women; and Williams got a lap dance from a topless dancer and placed his hands on her breasts.

Wait, that's it? Pep's being charged for getting a lap dance and toucher her butt? Williams touched her boobs?

Is it me, or do these charges make it sound like a lot less then it was made out to be, we hard about crew members afraid for being raped, crew members being molested, players protecting crew members...

It sounds like they chartered some boats and hired some strippers/escorts...

Crew members complained that some people took off their clothes and engaged in public sex acts during the cruise,

The criminal complaints said that after the boats left the dock, crew members noticed many female passengers going to a lower restroom area and emerging in scant clothing.

I think Smoots only real mistake might have been not telling the charter boat what he planned on doing.

Larry Jonhson? the RB for the chiefs? He didn't start the season as the #1 back, and he's still 4th in the NFL in yards, he already is one of the top rushers in the NFL.

Or is there another Larry Johnson in college now? (I admit, I don't follow college as closely as I used to).

Bro. Other than Big Leonard, the Cards have no O-Line. Denny has cut everyone, it's all cast-offs like Everett Lindsay, all 50 years old of him. They need a running game, which will make Fitz and Anquan so much better. It will take pressure off the QB, which will allow McNown(sic) to possibly even flourish, who knows?

Bush 1st round, trade up for Leinart, Young or Vick, then use the rest of their picks on OL and defense. That's what I'd do.

Little of both, the Pats run defense has been better and they're starting to get at the QB. There's no question the defensive secondary is shakey, but if you can get at the QB then they're not sticking guys as long and it will help them out. Part of what killed them the first half of the season was QB sitting back there all day.

I feel better after this game going into the playoffs then I did last week, Tampa has a good team and also a good defense, and the Pats were able to shut down the offense and score on the defense.

Division in clinched, wouldn't be shocked with Brady banged up to see Flutie get some game time the last 2 games.

I like the Pats in round 1, against Jacksonville or Pittsburg, SD did beat the Pats in the regular season, but in New England in mid january it could be a good game, don't like the Pats chances vs. KC, I think their offense would just be too much...

Round #2, While I think the Pats will make more of a game out of it now, I don't see them beating Indy. I'll root for them and anything is possible, but I wouldn't put money on anyone over Indy in Indy this year.

If Leftwich is healthy I think Jax could be an enormous game. Their offence isn't the greatest but it's capable of firing pretty big, and their D is pretty good (although Mathis got absolutely chewed out by Harrison last week). Also I dunno if the weather would affect some of their key guys as much as it might other teams - Leftwich (again) doesn't strike me as the kinda guy to be bothered by it.

I don't care what anyone says but Tiki Barber is the fucking man. Definitely carried us today but I don't care, because he is fucking awesome.

Toomer definitely got that TD, the replay from the back of the end zone showed the space underneath his leg. That was as close as it gets to being down without being down, but a great second effort, plus piss poor tackling.

I was pretty shocked at how easy Brady just picked apart the cover 2 to be honest. Everyone knows in theory how to beat it but getting it done is another matter.

Dunno if the weather would bother him, but the team in general, although people tend to lump Tampa and Jax in with places like Miami and SD and dome teams, but it does get chilly in Northern Florida.

Anyone can give a game and win in the playoffs, you're all there for a reason, heck... look at the last time the Pats hosted the Jags in a playoff game... Who picked them over Denver?

Although, I wouldn't be shocked to see a change and Jax could be the #6 seed or even the #3. Everything is still close.

Unless I wasn't watching I didn't see the Bucs try and run Williams outside the tackles once all game, which was a little bit :wtf: If you're getting nothing through the middle switch it up a bit.

With the way the Pats were coming up the middle I'm not sure he could have gotten to the outside.

No question about it, I don't think the Bucs played their best game, but it seems whenever a team wins it's always "well the other teamd didn't play well" instead of the "winning team dominated".

QUESTION:

Did Zygmunt Wilf ruin his credibility by not taking action against any players in the Boat Scandal after he said he would hold players responsible for their actions?

Some dude said that just now on the radio, that despite the facts not all being in, despite the trial not done, and the silence of the players, despite all that the guy thinks Zygmunt should have frigging jumped the gun and suspended McKinnie and Smoot just for being implicated?

I think it's horseshit.

Mr. Monday Morning
12-18-2005, 11:57 AM
Nah not taking anything away from the Pats D they were pretty scary with the way they mixed and matched their coverages. I'm sure they got Pittman to the outside at least once and he went for like 7-8 yards though, I'm just surprised they didn't try it more often, maybe a screen or two. I guess it's not Gruden's way of doing things.

Mr. Monday Morning

I dunno I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps schtum til the offseason - I guess it partly depends on whether Tice stays. If he does and he wants to keep these guys then he might take the heat for them, so to speak. If someone else is brought in then there might be, I dunno, reworked contracts or something to include hefty disciplinary fines, something like that.

Oh, and innocent until proven guilty, yadda yadda :shifty:

O yah. Manning lost that game for us today. The intentional grounding play and the sack he took pretty much lost it for us, but he played great still. He stood in and made some incredible passes even tho he was taking hits from hell. I've never seen Manning take hits like that and losing Ryan Diem in the first quarter was huge. Gandy played like shit, both run blocking and pass blocking.

O well . Weight off there shoulders. They can rest up and heal up . Alot of small injuries today. I'm not glad we lost, but it doesnt hurt to lose when your playing for nothing. I just wanted to see them put it in the 72 Dolphins faces.

Manning was getting destoried. The Colts could not stop the speed rush at all. Colts losing the game didn't matter cuz they everything locked up, but how they lost was interesting.

Anybody see when Manning was complaining about James not making a first down after catching it 3 yards behind the sticks. He made a motion with his hands like he should have cut it up the field, one of the announcers was like "What does he expect him to do? Break 3 tackles?" That's really the reason why I don't like Manning at all, I can't stand how he always looks like a lilllllllll bitch and complaining everything time something doesnt work right. Then when he fucks up himself its like "Whatever" or hes yelling at someone else.

But will this affect their confidence? Going 13-0 is a rare accomplishment and to lose at this stage might have them thinking a little about thier vulnerability.

I don't think it will, they will probaby finish up with one loss and that is pretty damn impressive. I just think they showed a big weakness today, which could be trouble in the playoffs.
