What sucks about that onside kick that the 49ers got was that the Colt were preparing all week for that. Jeff Fisher did stuff similiar with his kicker last year and Dungy said before the game that he was specifically preparing for something like that. God damnit.

I'm really starting to like Brady as hard as that is for me to say , but i still dont think he's the best in the league and i'm positive his team isnt the best in the league right now.

Edge is quietly having a MVP caliber season. He wont win it , but considering the fact that teams wont let us throw over the top of them anymore and are daring us the run. He's having a heck of a season. Domick Rhodes cant do what he's doing right now. He's carrying the load in a huge way. I'm scared to even think of the possibility of being without Edge next year.

This might be far fetched, this might be outlandish ( ofcourse it is from me :D ) , but if San Diego beats Pittsburgh tommorow, they ( in my mind ) will be the second best team in the NFL right now. Followed by the Pats.

I dont wanna play Jacksonville in the playoffs. That team is so tuff. I know for a fact that, that game along with the Pats and Pitt games that the Colts have later this year will be one of the toughest games of the season. Jacksonville can beat anyone and i wont be surprised at all if they get red hot in the second half of the season.

I'm not sure what i think about Denver. They always do pretty good in the regular season and then get there asses totally handed to them in the playoffs, but for now i think they deserve some love. They beat a pretty good Redskins team .

One more think about Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. I'm so sick of people comparing them to Montana and Marino. I'm sick of it . They are Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. I'm not gunna grow up and tell my grandkids about Joe Montana or Dan Marino of my era. I'm gunna tell them about Brady and Manning. Marino and Montana wont even make the conversation. At what point do we start talking about these guys without lumping in past legends? I think both have become they're own legends.

The difference between this year's Broncos and the Broncos of the past couple years is their D. Like Indy, they've made a big step up this year.

RP
10-10-2005, 02:00 AM
They're front 7 are really nice. Not the best , but one of . They're DB's, I dunno. one week they look good, this week they give up 300yrds to Mark Brunell.

If they played a Pitt, Jacksonville, or Pats team in the playoffs. They could compete. If they played the Bengals, Colts or Chargers , i think they could get killed. I'm not saying Pitt, Jags and Pats are bad teams , i'm just saying that they would matchup badly against the other 3.

FearedSanctity
10-10-2005, 02:06 AM
Denver actually has more depth at DB this year than they've had the past two times Indy demolished them. They're playing well and they're only rookies. I'd love to see what they can do in a year or two.

Walls was good, don't know what the fuck happened there.

Chad Johnson looked like he was gonna cry after the game tonite though. 5 catches and a touchdown isn't enough for him.

FearedSanctity
10-10-2005, 02:22 AM
Eh, true. He doesn't shut WRs down all the time, but he does most of the time. Then again, Denver's D didn't really helped him out much last year. Like some dude said, everyone has their off days. His just happen to be during games against guys like Jerry Porter and Chad Johnson :-\

RP
10-10-2005, 02:34 AM
He was non existent in the playoff game last year and they got him specifically to be a big game CB. He hasnt done it in Denver and didnt do it in Washington. Hence why i feel he is a tad overrated. Sure he can shut down a few people a few times in the regular season, but hell so can 15 + CB's in the league.

Chad Johnson is the man. After his interview on ESPN I like him even more. He said he wasnt on the same level as TO or Torry Holt because he hasn't been to a Superbowl/won one yet. He didnt call himself the best WR or any of that bullshit. He's the man. Anyone hating on him is a fucking clown seriously. Hes having fun with the game, who is hurting with his celebrations? Nobody.

Duane Starks is one of the worst cornerbacks I have ever seen. I think I would rather have Troy Brown out there. He had got burned like 5 times and dropped two INTs.

In fairness, you can't a 6-2 TE when you're a 5-10 CB, especially the way Schuab played today, his placement was perfect "us or no one" that's where most his passes were, either his guy would make the play or no one would, it's like the way Moss always says "just put it up, they can't jump with me". I tell ya, I'm Mora, I consider starting Schuab and putting Vick at HB.

One more think about Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. I'm so sick of people comparing them to Montana and Marino. I'm sick of it . They are Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. At what point do we start talking about these guys without lumping in past legends? I think both have become they're own legends.

Well, Marino started in 1983 you were 1, he finished in 1999 you were 16.
Montana 1979, you weren't a fetus yet, he finished in 1994 you were 12.

So yeah, you probably saw the "last years" of two of the greatest to play the game.

Players will always be compared with retired players while they're active.

When they both retire, you're right they will be their own legends. For now, it's very similar, the way the play, plus the big reason people mention it is the Superbowls. Marino set all the records, Montana won the "big games".

I'm ok with the comparsions for now, eventually they will go away. Also, keep in mind this is only Brady's 6th NFL season 5th starting. That's been the big Brady debate, is he won so much, so fast (3 rings, 2 mvp's in his first 4 years starting) if he doesn't keep that pace (which he wont) how will that effect "his legened".

VonErich Lives
10-10-2005, 03:09 AM
that and personally, I think if you're not in the HOF yet, it's always nice to be compared to a HOF'er

Jesus Shuttlesworth

It wasn't just a 6-2 TE out jumping him though. Wideouts he was covering where open all day, they just did not get the ball all the time due to poor throws. Schaub had an okay game but nothing great. He could have had a much better day with the way the Patriots DBs were playing. Patriots Defense is pretty garbage this year, they need to pick it up.

What? He held Harrison to 4 catches for 50 yds and no TDs. Manning even said after the game that he purposely avoided going after Champ. Champ wasn't the problem that game. The problem was Roc Alexander and the rest of the defense.

More Patriots injuries.

They were trying out DB's they cut and other cut.

McGinist has a broken hand, may play with cast.

Faulk's broken foot they said may be career ending.

I know I notice the Pats more becuase I'm a fan and here, but is it me, or are there more injuries league wide this year? especially to big players?

I haven't looked this up, but they said on the Radio, that Elias sports beaura said the Pats opening 6 games is the toughest 6 game stretch in the history of the NFL.

Hopefully a win this weekend, 4-2 and into the bye week.

The funny thing is, the Pats have the 2nd hardest schedule this year, they said the toughest for the Season is Miami, the reason being Miami has NE x2 on their schedule and NE has Miami x2, so that makes Miami's schedule tougher.

I like to see these type of stats after the season, not who was the tough team last year, who was this year.

RP
10-12-2005, 08:41 PM
o here we go. Whining about injuries already.

Gonzo
10-12-2005, 08:52 PM
All that matters at the end of the season is who has the most W's and who wins the Superbowls. After that stupid ass shit like how tough your teams schedule was is irrelevant.

Jesus Shuttlesworth

Colts have a good chance of being 7-0 when they play the Patriots. Man I really hope the Patriots man up and beat the Colts again. Would be great. Colts are real good this year though and the Patriots aren't as good as they have been. Should be interesting.

RP
10-12-2005, 09:32 PM
It should be a heck of a game.

RP
10-12-2005, 09:46 PM
I really think other teams think the Colts offense is struggling. I doubt that will be the case with the Pats, but people are gunna realise real soon that if they arent dropping 7 back, we'll be throwing over there heads and if they are dropping 7 back, we'll run it down there throats and play ball controll.

Thats the key difference of Indy this year. Last year they lacked patience. In that New England game when you guys were dropping 7 back for most of the game, Manning tried to force the issue. Instead of taking what we were giving and running it down your throars, which we actually did in the first game of the season. Well now teams are basically doing the same thing New England did in the playoffs and the Colts are exercising a little patience and running the ball almost 60% of the time. Sure the games are a little closer, but only because thats what teams are giving us. If they try to stop the run, they will get burned. Theres no question.

So the real question on November 7th will be whether or not New Englands front 4 can stop the run, because if they cant then its gunna be a long night.

( VEL will take this as a insult and call me an idiot )

RP
10-12-2005, 09:53 PM
And i'm not sure what answer New England's O-line will have for the Colts front 4 ( who might be the best in the league by then ).

Corey Simon is a monster and once he's in perfect game shape theres no telling what he could do. Freeney and Mathis are probably the fastest outside rushers in the league. We have so much depth there too. Brock, Triplett, Raegor. One thing San Fransico did really well was they ran alot of draw plays, but eventually the Dline got to Smith reguardless and the Colts stopped the run when they had to.

Frank Gore isnt Corey Dillon, but i think Gores running style is alot more suited for draw plays. I think Dillon is a little more of a tweener. I'm not sure the Pats can get away with drawn play after draw play. Thats all the 49ers did too.

Screen plays ( which New England are really good at ) could kill Indy's speed, but giving the fact that Indy has a bye week before the game, there should be no excuse not to be ready for those.

This game will be special.

So, Tedy Bruschi has been practicing with the Patriots for 1-2 weeks. He can't do drills, since he's on the PUP list.

If he comes back strong that's huge, I just don't know if he really should.

3 rings, money, family... should he risk it?

The argument being talked about is the Doctors told him there was no more risk by playing football then their is walking down the street, if he's going to have an issue it will happen no matter what.

There word is, he's going to need some waiver or huge insurance policy to play.

I dunno, gives me Reggie Lewis flashbacks, but in his case he was told NOT to play, and his wife kept shopping till they found a doctor that said he could.

Not a medical expert at all but I find it hard to believe that. Surely getting hit the wrong way or even just landing awkwardly poses a danger to his health that's greater than it would be if he hadn't have suffered the stroke, even if it isn't life-threatening.

Patriots made a game out of it. That's good to see but it sucks to see the injuries finally catching up with them. I'm still not sold on the new linebackers either though. Chad Brown catches way too many blocks and everytime he does make a tackle it is 5 yards down the field. 3-3 is not bad after the schedule and the injuries but there is something different about this season for the Pats. Doesn't have the same "feel"

Ok my pats notes.

1) I'm done trying to defend or find excuses for Starks, hope he's cut today.

2) They haven't stopped the run all year, and if you can't stop the run you can't win. It's because of injuries/retirements, but that doesn't change the fact that you don't have those players. We'll see how Bruschi changes things, but the MLB core has been crap, and the DL w/o Seymore has been crap, even Eugene Wilson has disapears without Harrison around.

3) The OL needs Matt Light back fast, can't remember the last time I saw Brady get smacked around like that.

Anyway, 3-3, not thrilled, but tied for first, and all that matters is being undefeated in the playoffs...

also, WTF, Givens has the tools to be a great WR, but he keeps looking like the guy from Necessary Roughness

Over the past week and especially after tonight. I hear all this undefeated talk. I personally think there should be no talk about this. I believe the only reason why its being talked about so early is because Indy is clicking on all cylinders literally. Defense , Offense, Special teams. They are obviously the best team in the league and probably by alot, but i dont think undefeated talk should even start to be talked about until the 10-0 mark.

That being said, there is no way we go undefeated. Between the Patriots game, Steelers game, Bengals game and Chargers game, somewhere in there they will lose. I'll be beside myself if its to the Patriots ( obviously ) , but if i had to bet on it , i'd say the Patriots.

The loss could even come in Jacksonville.

Anyways. Cato June , Robert Mathis, Dwight Freeney and Bob Sanders will be in the Pro Bowl this year, barring any dramatic decline in there production.

I've been getting into football lately. What I don't get though, how are the schedules decided? I was checking out the Jets schedule earlier, and this season they have: The Chiefs, The Dolphins, The Jaguars, The Ravens, The Buccaneers, The Bills, The Falcons, The Chargers, The Panthers, The Bronco's, The Saints, The Patriots, The Raiders, and The Dolphins, the Patriots and the Bills again.

How come it's only these teams that they play, and no one else? And how come they play The Dolphins, The Pats and The Bills twice?

And how is the whole play-off thing at the end of the season determined? Thanks.

Yeah I can see that, but why do they only play a selected few other teams? Why those teams specifically?

Gonzo
10-18-2005, 05:06 PM
They rotate the schedules. Like for instance, the Jets will always play their divisonal opponents twice each year, one home game and one away game with each team. Then they will play two other divisions (4 teams each) and finally two other teams based on previous years record I think. Then they throw a bye week in there and you have the 17 week NFL season.

Team Sheep
10-18-2005, 05:09 PM
Ah right, seems logical enough. So how many teams qualify for the play-offs and all at the end of the season?

Gonzo
10-18-2005, 06:22 PM
4 Divisional Champions in each conference and 2 Wildcard teams in each conference. So 12. The top two teams of each conference get bye weeks, and the top team in a conference gets home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Superbowl is at a predetermined location that is neutral, unless the freak chance that the local team makes it there.

OssMan
10-18-2005, 06:36 PM
It's in like Miami every other year though, they are gonna get in some time, do they actually change it if the home team makes it in?

Mr. Monday Morning
10-18-2005, 06:41 PM
Just to add to what Gonzo said above ^^^ cause I remember when I first started watching it confused the hell out of me.

Each divisional winner (i.e. North, South, East and West) are into the playoffs automatically. The team with the best overall record in the conference (AFC and NFC) gets home field advantage through the playoffs. Then basically the 2 best runners up in each conference get the wildcard spots. Normally there's a few teams tied on the same win-loss record (around 9-7 is the average) and so after that they take into account the win-loss record against other teams in the conference, in the division (making it even more important to beat your rivals), and so on.

The 6 teams who make it are sorted by their records, and then the top 2 get the first week of the playoffs as a bye, while 3rd plays 6th and 4th plays 5th. Then the winners progress against the top 2 to the divisional games, then those 2 winners to the conference game, and then the Superbowl.

Hope that helps.

The "most hosts" was New Orelans, after 2007, Miami will be tied, after 2010, Miami will have the most.

The thought is this is a sign that the NFL will move the saints.

Personally, I think if there's no NO team, having them as a permanint host for the super bowl would be cool.

Detroit is a horrible idea, but they build a new stadium (dome) so they got one. New England would have gotten one, but you have to either be a warm climate or a dome

LOL why is Jamal Lewis so fucking bad. I dunno if it is him because it seems like every time he gets the ball he is hit in the back field or if he gets any yards at all there are like five defenders in his face. Does he even have 200 yards this season :o

J Lewis 98 - 292 1 TD
C Taylor 35 - 202 0 TD

But as soon as everyone starts praising them, they go to shit.

Colts will more than likely be there and more than likely win it, but I'm not sold on the Giants. Actually, there is no team in the NFC that is far and away the best, so maybe they will.

I don't know.

Keyshawn Johnson blasting Michael Irvin in his face saying he never blocked and he just caught balls, then telling him he couldnt play for Parcells. Basically impying Irvin was soft. It was great. Not sure if i agree , but it was funny .

I agree. I would have said the Bucs before Griese went down. The Redskins looks really tough this year. Atlanta will probably be in the NFC champ game, but did you see the Eagles defense today? They absolutely shut down L. Tomlinson. That was incredible. I'd say the Eagles have to be the favorites.

Nah seriously though I've only seen the play once but I think they must've ruled that he didn't have control of the ball, it looked to me like the ball might've bounced out of his hands when he hit the ground :-\
