Has anyone been watching this? I've just watched the first two episodes and It's pretty bloody good, Apparently it's based on a series of books called 'Stories of Fire and Ice' which I havn't read.

It's a bloody good program though I'm completely gripped and cannot wait till episode three. I kind of feel like I did at the beginning of Prison Break.

The acting, costumes and sets all look brilliant. Sean Bean is obviously great and theres some fit women and sex and nudity in it to.

I endorse this program and will gladly discuss it with all of you.

If you have A torrent program there are plenty available.

I downloaded these ones

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/289980437/Game+of+thrones+s01e02?tab=summary

Both work well, You just need VLC Media player to view it due to most versions of Windows Media Player not recognising the file type/not having the correct codecs to run it.

You can get VLC Media Player here.

I'm almost through the 2nd book. I resisted reading Game of Thrones but I now love it.

Narc, who is your favorite character?

It's really a tough call, to be honest. There is so much character development in this fucking book. There isn't one character that I really "dread" or anything when there's a chapter in their POV. Some of the Catelyn chapters are a bit dry, but usually end on some fantastic cliffhanger.

This might be a bit of an odd choice, but the Daenerys chapters probably hold my interest the very most. The way she transformed from this scared little helpless girl to the feisty wife and "keeper" (of sorts) of a blood thirsty Doth'Raki savage was pretty tremendous and it happened so quickly. The way her relationship with Viserys basically flip flopped over night was a pretty cool element to the story. She was scared to death of him and respected his "power" for the first part of her entire life...and now... not so much.

Also, Tyrion is a little shithead and I love him.

Brigstocke

I think we should all start using characters from the show as avatars and having their names as Customer titles like all the 'Ghostbusters' ones from a while ago in a daft attempt at growing the 'cult' of people watching from the boards.

Hmm.

I actually quite liked Viserys. Not sure why, I just liked how pathetic and needy he came across and I've always liked Harry Lloyd as an actor. I was fully expecting him to die eventually, just a shame it had to come so soon. Suppose he went out in style at least.

Gave the first episode a watch following Brigstockes reccomendation.

While it didn't grab me in like pilots of other shows that I love(d), it did interest me enough for me to check out the next couple of episodes. I'll form a proper opinion after a couple more episodes. Am I right in saying there's 6 episodes out at the moment?

Good lord I love this show. Gutted Viserys died, such a well acted character. The Imp steals just about every scene he's in. Sean Bean is reliably good... Oh, and i've been really impressed with all the child actors, too. Particularly the youngest Stark child. Spot on!

/Hopefully my new picture of Bronn is up, too!

For those of you who haven't read the books, who do you think is the next major character to get offed?

I think Catelyn, Robert Baratheon, Ned Stark and Uncle Benjin will all die eventually, but I think Littlefinger may be next.

I'm guessing the books carry on over a large time frame and as the story progresses some of the younger characters like Joffrey, The Younger Stark children and Catelyn's Nephew who still sucks booby will be replaced with older actors for future seasons?

Just finished watching episode 7...the build to the climax (pardon the sequential posting pun) of the story has absolutely been brilliant. Very very curious to see when the White Walkers play a role in things up at the wall.

We've got White Walkers and Khal Drogo both making their way to King's landing, and an absolute storm of shit in the capital. When all these three things converge...madness

I've relentled and started reading the books.

Just finished the first hundred or so pages, (where the first TV episode finished)

Here are some points I'd like to make.

* Robb Stark and Jon Snow look nothing like 14 years of age on the TV Show.
* In watching the show I wasn't aware of 'Rickon' the youngest Stark child.
* I thought Theon was the 5th Stark Child (It hasn't been put across in the show very well how a Greyjoy came to be living with the Starks. Although maybe that will come later when it has more relevance)
* It's after reading this section of the first book that I realise how well Mark Addy captured Robert Baratheon.
* I concur with Narc, The Daenerys chapters are fabulous.

Boomer
06-05-2011, 11:05 AM
All the children were made older in the TV series by a few years per Martin's suggestions - much easier to find good actors that way. Rickon is in the TV series, but he's not really important to anything considering how young he is. Theon gets much more explanation in the second book.

Everything is just happening so quickly now. I love it. Not sure how much they're going to get done in this season, but I just know I'm going to be dying for next season as soon as this is over. Love the dire wolves. Syrio Forel is a badass, and I seriously hope he is not dead. My friends and I all heard a metal sword drop, or clang against stone.. soooo, they left it open with not showing us what happened.

So, Rob Stark told the scout they were headed straight for Tywin. In reality, they're going for Jaime and the River Lords.

White walkers.. geez. Gonna be hell on earth the moment they get past the wall. I foresee a dragon coming into play somewhere in this series. No way they were foreshadowing so much with the eggs and talking about it if there isn't going to be one. I see a dragon being what saves them from the white walkers.

It's been annoying me that I recognise the guy who plays Bronn the Sellsword, It's done my head in for weeks.

I relented today and looked it up

British viewers prepare yourselves for a *SHOCKING REVELATION* American viewers I have no news for you I'm sorry.

We all know that Bronn looks like this.

What isn't obvious there is that once upon a Soldiering time he used to be this.

I dunno if IMDB is accurate, but he seemingly hadn't had a film or TV acting role since 2000 before Game of Thrones. Quite a comeback if it's accurate.

There's just far too many good British actors in it in general.

About 300 pages into the first book (where lady Stark takes Tyrion hostage). Loving it...getting a much more "rich" understanding of the history and what's going on in the background of the story.

Wow, didn't realize he was that guy's son. Just looked it up and sure enough, he is. So that was his sword that Snow is carrying now. Jorah the Andal, aka Jorah Mormont. Probably one of my favorite characters. He is a traitor because he sold slaves, but he is obviously very noble with his intentions at times. I like that he decided not to go back even with a pardon, and stayed to watch Dany because he saw a different side of her than what he's probably known about the Targaryens. Probably knew that if anything went wrong, she wouldn't make it on her own. He's the only real friend she has in the whole world really.

I started the first installment of the third book today.

The second book (and thus season, fingers crossed) is far better than the first. Lots of epic Tyrion scenes, Stuff from beyond the wall and a whole bunch of new characters are on the way. Some new 'magical' elements and a few surprises.

I would love to discuss the books in detail with you Miotch.

My favourite character seems to change with each chapter. I am in love with Tyrion, Jorah Mormont, Jon Snow, Theon Greyjoys sister, The Hound, and Quorin Halfhand. I cannot for the love of god decide who's fucking side Varys is on.

Miotch
07-11-2011, 05:28 PM
Varys is on the side of the realm.

The third book shits all over the first two. It seems that every other chapter or so there's a giant FUCK ME moment or twist. Lots of people die. Lots of people you've come to know and love. :(

I've heard the 4th book is a bit dry in comparison to the first 3. I'm going to try to power through though because I've heard really good things about the 5th book release.

Why can Sean Bean never ever live ever?

Besides that (he's one of my favorite actors), this is a good show. I haven't really checked out many other medieval series but my brother recommended this one. It has great character depth and somehow manages not to be confined to just that. I began to realize toward the end of the first season that this show is about a much bigger plot than a handful of people and their struggles. It's really well done. When I compare it to other things I've seen that mostly revolve around characters, it's refreshing. Doesn't seem to have anything stale about it. I might end up reading the books, but I enjoy the acting so far.

There were many moments during season 1 that made me feel or think that this was a really bland show for HBO (considering their legacy of phenominal series such as Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Oz, Sopranos, The Larry Sanders Show). With this in mind GOT is a lack luster show for HBO yet there were some good moments, enough good moments for me to look forward to watching season 2.

Requiem
08-13-2011, 03:12 PM
Disagree 100%

The production quality, acting moments, and now after reading about 1/4 of the way through the first book, the story. All of it is top notch. What I expect out of HBO is -quality-. Not huge twists, or a lot of swearing. Not sure what you expected as I don't care much for, or really have much experience with any of those shows except for Curb Your Enthusiasm.. and any comparison to a show with absolutely zero similarities is pretty unfair.

I see GoT as very similar to Rome and Band of Brothers as far as 'what they were going for' and just the feel of the show. It's not some week-by-week show. It's a story show, and it did an excellent job of telling the story.

Requiem

Yeah I get that. Think that episode would have been AWESOME though. I mean, didn't they stretch the tourney between two eps anyways? And it wasn't even all of it. I wont spoil anything, but I hope they slightly shy away from the books. They were nearly dead on in season one, and I just dont think the coming books will adapt in the same way - just too much going on. I nthe Intro season it worked.

Plus with the books constant killing of characters and introduction of new ones, the series would tear through 300 actors a season.

So

Littlefinger is way more slick than I gave him credit for. Thought he was kind of predictable for a bit, but wow. Getting Lysa to poison Jon Arryn. Becoming a Lord and then going to the Vale and murdering her.

Also, Jon Snow is a BADASS. Knew he wouldn't take Stannis' offer to be Lord of Winterfell. He went through too much shit for his brothers to just turn his back on them. Alliser Thorne is a prick and I hope Jon Snow treats him as nice as he possibly can just to spite the fuck and make him feel bad for ever doubting him.

Samwell :y:

Arya killing bitches. She is going to be one COLD bitch by the time she's grown. Really liked all of her chapters. She has gone through one of the biggest transformations of all the characters, except maybe Daenerys, except she has sort of 'fallen into' her role now and hasn't changed a whole lot from the end of the first book.

Really liked Ser Barristan showing up to fight for her. Had been really disappointed that he hadn't shown up in the books after walking out of the King's Court, and then BOOM out of nowhere, he saves her life and Jorah realizes who he is. Good shit.

Also have no idea what Tyrion is going to do now that he has to run. Liked that Jaime released him. Lots of 'oh shit' moments in the 3rd book. It's great how the author manages to do things without them being predictable. Like, you legit have no idea what's going to happen.. like at the Frey's wedding. Knew shit was suspicious, especially with Grey Wind getting pissed the second they got there. But then shit just went down all at once, and people were dying. Robb and Catelyn. Was like OH SHIT WHAT?!?!!

Good stuff. One of my favorite series now. Book 4 has started off dreadfully slow so far. Didn't really give a shit about 'the prophet' or the 'captain of the guards' at all, but that's all I've read so far.

Nice, didn't know you were into it.

Book 3 is incredible. Didn't know the bluray was out already.

I pre-ordered it, got the stark key chain. It is amazing. I finally bought a bluray player just for this tv show. I had a different, but I left it at my girlfriends house cause it was easier at the time, and all the blurays I own before GoT have dvd's with them. But I got tired of watching this at my gf's house because she won't sit down and watch the first episode with me, so I won't let her watch any of the later episodes.

Why won't she? :'( It's really a fantastic series.

She wants to and would watch it over here. But if we are watching it at her house, her son would most likely come in and probably while there are tits on the screen.

Anyhow, I understand why they have to change things from book to screen, but I am disappointed the Hound doesn't get more play in the show.

Kinda forgotten some bits from season 1. Might have to rewatch if I get the chance, or maybe just hope my memory will be refreshed while watching.

Think I'm gonna go buy the blu ray tomorrow. Don't really know all that much about the show but I've heard good things and at the bargain price of £25.50 for the HD discs, who can argue?

In the time between the two seasons I read all 5 books and am an ardent fan now. Just wish I didn't have to wait another 2-3 years for the next book :'(

you mean 5-7 years by the way

and lets be honest, GRRM will probably be dead before it ever gets released.

lol was actually thinking about that the other day. Guy is so heavy that it wouldn't surprise me if he keeled over of a heart attack or something before this ever gets finished. Dunno, now that the series is this popular, 3ish years may not be such a stretch. He may want to capitalize on it now, because... y'know.. money. Also, it will be about 7 years from now for all of the show to be done, assuming they do book 3 in 2 seasons as I've read they will. So, I would think he will probably plan to have the last book done for a tandem release when the final season of the show airs.

Well he did confide the story endings as he saw it to the producers and directors apparently JUST IN CASE. But he does not want anyone to write and finish the book series if he dies. Faggot.

The first season is the first book entirely. Or what they could fit in anyway; they do a valiant job of it regardless.

Yes the first book and first season are the same. My girlfriend is thinking of getting HBO so we can watch the new season.
