Was talking to the other Rob.I thought that was obvious?Or are you the same person? But do you really expect a team with parker/clark/ bowyer/n'zogbia to be able to dominate the game?
And to the response above your post- Bramble is a decent defender, and I even forgot to mention solano.

<font face=verdana size=3 color="#ff6600">well no doubt it wasn't your full strength team but we were missing two key players for us in Lua Lua and Laurant Robert too, we can only play whats put infront of us. :$
whats the deal with Shearer also, he's terrible now :$ he was playing like Ameobi :nono: </font>
Londoner
10-05-2005, 11:28 AM
Because Shearer needs someone like Owen to run for him, he's 36 now and practically carrying an injury prone team all by himself. His performances when owen was playing were far different from when he's playing wiht Ameobi.I think Ameobi will improve once sheraer retires, because he knows he's not going to get in the team while Shearer and Owen are there, so that's going to affect his confidence quite a bit.
And to the response above your post- Bramble is a decent defender, and I even forgot to mention solano.
Behave, he's fucking rank. He's like the defender version of the Liverpool Emile Heskey. He's a total donkey.

In righteous news, Traianos Dellas is back in the side (in defence) after a lengthy absense from injury. He also recently signed for AEK Athens after an unsuccessful spell at Roma.

Looks like Rio will be dropped in favour of Campbell tomorrow, can't say it's a surprise as Ferdinand's been poor, but i can't see Austria causing too many problems. I think if England win and Holland beat Czech Republic then we're through as one of the best runners-up at least.
I'd also like to point out that Heskey is better than Crouch.

I actually think they didn't deserve it, and I'm not saying that because I'm Scottish, but because all that Owen did was stumble to his knees.
There was no need for a penalty.
But I'm happy that Scotland got as far as they did. Walter Smith has done some great things to the team.:D:y:

The penalty was soft in the sense that that kind of thing usually happens and if penalties are awarded for that then they'd be like 5 given each game. Depends which way you look at it though, if refs are clamping down on that then it should have been given and players would cut it out, but it's making it less physical, so i can see it both ways.
The one which wasn't given was clear-cut though.
toxic rooster
10-09-2005, 11:05 AM
Find me a ref that wouldn't give that though. In my league we've had some absolutely terrible refs and I'm confident that every last one of them would have given a penalty for that

Well slap me on a hook and call me bait. Australia actually played fucking well in one of their international games. :| Granted we were only playing Jamaica and it was a friendly, but for once we actually played quite well and we well deserved the 5-0 scoreline. :| It pisses me off big time that Farina was not sacked earlier so Hiddick would have more time to work with the players, cos at the moment he is doing a fantastic job.

Mark Viduka, Marco Bresciano and Jason Culina were excellent against Jamaica.
Well I dunno who I want. Let's look at the 3 opponents we might get
Uruguay
Pros: We've played them before and we will know their stengths and weaknesses a bit better than the other two countries. We have also beaten them before (1-0 in Melbourne) so we know we can beat them.
Cons: They'll also know our strengths and weaknesses, plus they beat us overall last time to qualify, with the 3-0 in Montevideo (:'( ) so they could have a mental advantage over us.
Chile
Pros: Would be more suited to us
Cons: A very tricky team that can go awol if it wants to. Plus, a large Chilian population in Australia. We don't want a farcical situation like we had when Turkey visited here, with nearly half the ground supporting Turkey. :| Having said that, I think only 500 or so tickets will be allocated for away fans in Sydney, so we shouldn't have that problem.
Columbia
Pros: 'Easier' opponent (although they're all difficult), we probably have a very good chance to put a few past them in Sydney.
Cons: High altitude...will be an absolute cunt to have to travel there for the away leg.
They're all gonna be difficult - especially the away legs - but I think overall it will be better to play Chile. I'm just fucking rapt we have the away leg first so we can go there, hopefully steal a draw, then get the fuck out of there, come home and just gun it for a result.

As in, what?
It was a foul. It was inside the penalty area. If a foul is committed inside the penalty area, it is a penalty.
From this site: http://www.webindia123.com/sports/football/fouls.htm
When a player of the defending side intentionally commit one of the offences below, within the penalty area he is penalized by a penalty kick.
1. kicking or attempting to kick an opponent
2. tripping an opponents, i.e. throwing or attempting to throw him by using legs or by stopping in front or behind him
3. jumping at an opponent
4. charging an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner
5. charging an opponent from behind unless the latter obstructing him
6. striking or attempting to strike an opponent
7. holding an opponent
8. pushing an opponent
9. handling the ball, i.e. carrying, striking or propelling the ball with his hand or arm; are penalized by the award of an indirect free kick. It is to be taken by the opposing side from the place where the offence is committed.

Yeah I agree CC, Young comes form Charlton by the way, well thats the club he plays for, not sure if he's actually from there.
What an awful performance once again though from the whole team, we'll either draw 1-1 with poland or lose 2-0.Sven needs to be sacked after the poland match, alright so we've qualified, but look at the performances overall, they don't exactly fill me with confidence. FIFA president Sepp Blatter has vowed to stop 'greed ruling the world of football' and launched a blistering attack on hugely-wealthy club owners he claims are threatening the future of football.

Blatter said: 'A fortunate few clubs are richer than ever before. What makes this a matter of concern is that, all too often, the source of this wealth is individuals with little or no history of interest in the game, who have happened upon football as a means of serving some hidden agenda.
'Having set foot in the sport seemingly out of nowhere, they proceed to throw pornographic amounts of money at it. What they do not understand is that football is more about grass-roots than idols; more about giving entertainment and hope to the many than bogus popularity to a predictable few; more about respecting others than sating individual greed, whether for adulation or money.'
Blatter insists a new FIFA task force set up to deal with corruption and multiple ownership issues will deal with the excesses.
He adds: 'This cannot be the future of our game. FIFA cannot sit by and see greed rule the football world. Nor shall we.
'The time has come to take action to curb the excesses and ensure that the sport protects its roots.
'If nothing is done, this new money could suffocate a sport that has no fewer than 1.3billion active followers around the world.
'The professional game is now shot through with practices that, at best, expose the ugly side of club football and, at worst, threaten its very existence.'
Blatter says the practice, in Latin America especially, of speculators buying the commercial rights to promising child players is unacceptable and a 'new form of slavery'.
He also attacks players and agents for demanding 'insane' wages, saying: 'Equally unacceptable are the sort of wage negotiations that can produce the spectacle of semi-educated, sometimes foul-mouthed, players on £100,000 a week holding clubs to ransom until they get, say, £120,000.
'More often than not, these players are guided in these endeavours by unsavoury agents.
'It is simply insane for any player to 'earn' £6million-£8million a year when the annual budget of even a club competing in the UEFA Champions League may be less than half that. What logic, right or economic necessity would qualify a man in his mid-20s to demand to earn in a month a sum that his own father - and the majority of fans - could not hope to earn in a decade?'
Blatter also blames the influx of hugely-wealthy owners for causing football to become predictable.
'Unlimited cash has given a handful of club owners the wherewithal to control the global club game by splashing unimaginable sums on a tiny group of elite players. More than ever before, the majority are fighting with spears, while the greedy few have the financial equivalent of nuclear warheads.
'No wonder empty seats in stadiums and saturation live television coverage of matches have become issues. What is interesting about a league whose champions can be predicted with confidence after about five games?
'Why is it good for football to take the excitement away from fans by overcharging them for tickets to see 'their' team? And is it really still 'their' team when one club in England has a squad with 19 nationalities?
'What we are faced with today is a football society of haves and have nots.'</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Greece 1-0 up against Georgia in Athens about 15 minutes in. To finish 2nd we MUST win, Turkey MUST lose away to Albania and Denmark MUST NOT WIN away against Kazakhstan. I think we will win convincingly but other results will fuck us up. Still, shitting myself, as it stands the Kazakhstan-Denmark score suits us (0-0) but Albania-Turkey is also 0-0 :(
It would be an absolute fucking miracle if we finish in 2nd spot now.

Yeah I agree CC, Young comes form Charlton by the way, well thats the club he plays for, not sure if he's actually from there.
Lol. I know he's from Charlton, I wasn't talking literally. I think Sven has a real eye for underrated players. If he wasn't obsessed with Beckham and Crouch then maybe he'd actually be capable of putting together a good team.
Speaking of Charlton players... why not Danny Murphy? He was in the international frame a few years ago when he was player of the season at Liverpool, and he's just as good now. I'd rather have Murphy come on as a late sub to shake things up rather than that goon Hargreaves. Do you know how many games that fake English/German/Canadian has played? And he's done very little at international level to warrant his inclusion!

<Font face=verdana size=3 color="#ff6600">that club with 19 foreigners is us, we've had Gordon Taylor going on about it and all the dickheads from Sky crying about how we were going to field a team with no English players and how bad it was.
We then went and fielded 2 English players plus a Scot and Andy O'Brien who was born in Yorkshire but represents Ireland. Which just went to show what a load of old bollocks the whole thing was.
Just because we have 19 foreigners doesn't mean we're not going to play home grown players.
The fact of the matter is we have to buy overseas players because English players are ridiculously over priced.
And to answer the question: "is it really still 'their' team when one club in England has a squad with 19 nationalities?"
Yes, it is very much my team. Our Serbian captain (much like the Dutchman before him), Danish right back, French left back, Senegalese midfielder and Congolese striker have endeared themselves to me with their commitment, ability and pride to the same degree our English players have. Their nationality means nothing to me, they are all Pompey players at the end of the day. So long as they show a bit of pride and give 100% I couldn't give a toss if they're English or Albanian.
Maybe thats why I am caring less and less about the English national team? Because dickheads like Rio Ferdinand play for us.

Seriously we are such a better team without Ferguson's incredible ability to pass a ball from side to side. Midfield four of McFadden, Quashie, Fletcher and Hartley is the way forward. Ferguson's inability to pass a ball forward or control a game just hinders the rest of the side.
Has Nigel Quashie had a bad game for club or country since his first cap? Berti Vogts didn't do much but thank God he found Quashie.
Next step is to get rid of Steven Pressley and Graham Alexander. After that, we might just have a team capable of challenging.

That's gay :( He can become a manager in a few years though, have a successful time in charge of Leicester and then be appointed as Greece coach, it's all good.
John Motson, the main BBC commentator here, said something like 'and some good news - Greece are out! the European Champions beat Georgia but as Turkey beat Albania they get the play-off place in the group already won by Ukraine, and i THINK that means Denmark are out too'. God i hate him, for one thing Englishmen will hate Turkey more than Greece and it's obvious that Denmark would have been out.
Then there was Graeme Le Saux saying stuff like 'he's one of the few players of his generation who can do that' about a turn, sidestep and shot from Rooney, even though it went over. It wasn't that difficult a skill ffs.
That talk of sides having no Englishman is over the top aswell, we did it in the Championship this season with the team of: Douglas, Maybury, Gilbert, Johansson, McCarthy, Sylla, Gudjonsson, Williams, Tiatto, Connolly, de Vries.

<font color="#ff6600">I've got it on DVD so i can relive it again and again and again. You're welcome to come round and take a look ;)
Quashie for us was one of our worst players in our first premiership season and the fans got on his back a lot (not me, i admired his commitment) because he constantly tried Frank Lampard style long shots and they always went miles over the bar. Plus he was always caught in posession and gave the ball way cheaply by playing square balls.
Then he got picked for Scotland last season and his form improved and he went from being our worst player and weakest link to being quite good. Then we sold him to scum and they said he was their best player (although considering his competition was Rory Delap and Paul Telfer, thats not that huge an achievment ;))
So i dunno what it was, but after he got picked from Scotland he went from being an absolute weak link to being quite good. </font>

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has accused Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger of "conning everybody" into believing the Gunners always play attacking football.
Allardyce claims Wenger is more shrewd in how he portrays his team than Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and that, just like other teams, the north London club are occasionally forced to play more defensively.
He told the Daily Mirror: "Arsene is very good at how he portrays his team's performances. He is conning everybody. Arsenal are more attractive in terms of how everyone likes to see football played but perhaps Arsene does a better job media-wise than Jose."
He added: "The perception is that Arsenal always play attacking football and Wenger is very good at putting that over to people but it's not always true."
He added in The Sun: "When they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final they didn't win playing attacking football, they did it with 4-5-1 and played for penalties."

Ronaldo isn't world class? Yeah ok.
I don't think he is. He can be extremely inconsistent and I feel parts of his game are still lacking. He doesn't get enough goals as a winger, and for every good cross he puts in, he wastes 2 or 3 more.
There is absolutely no doubt he is a talent, defenders hate playing against a pacy winger with quick feet as well, he's got that down to a tee, if he can consistently find a man in the box, cut down the tricks and banging in a few more goals every season, then you'll get a world-class player. I still feel his passing leaves a lot to be desired as well and his decision making needs to be improved.
Basically, the things he'll pick up as he matures as a player will make him a much better player. Come 23-24 he will be absolutely awesome, right now he is a good winger who plays inconsistently for United and superbly for Portugal, he just needs to iron a few things out in his game.
Besides, the term world class is banded about WAY too much.

Oh and the fact Essien hasn't been suspended for that challenge is an absolute fucking disgrace.
I am pleased to be fair, I don't agree that they should be able to worsen a punishment that the ref saw. Only off the ball incidents should be dealt with, and people diving. I know Essien's reaction was play acting but that wasn't what was under review.

Uruguay coach slams choice of referees
October 29, 2005
Uruguay coach Jorge Fossati has criticised the choice of European referees for his team's World Cup playoff matches against Australia.
"I don't like this one bit. It's the same as if they had designated an Argentine (referee) in Uruguay and a Brazilian in Sydney," Fossati told a local radio station.
The Danish trio of Claus Bo Larsen, Bill Hansen and Anders Norrestrand have been appointed to officiate in the first leg at Montevideo's Centenario Stadium on November 12, Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) sources said.
The return leg will be handled by Belgians Frank De Bleeckere, Mark Simons and Peter Hermans.
"People will say they are Europeans, yes, but they're neighbours of Australia's current coach (Dutchman Guus Hiddink)," Fossati said.
"It's strange, officials from leagues in which we don't have any players. I'm not at all happy."

Both Uruguay's selected keepers are injured and are gonna struggle to make the first leg in 10 days' time. They can't get their third choice keeper released from his club (I think in Italy) so they could be facing the prospect of having a local fourth choice keeper out against us

That Theo Walcott looked alright today, although Patrik Gerrbrand had him in his pocket for most of the game.
If Wenger doesn't give Ryan Smith a chance at Arsenal after his loan is up then he's a dick, the kid is fucking dynamite. That said, we should have won today, Southampton were poor, just hoofing it over the top for Walcott to chase really, Quashie was about the only one passing it about. Rab did his best to gift them a win though, possibly the worst goalkeeping performance by someone who kept a clean sheet ever.
We need a forward on loan.

Australian security assured
AAP
http://www1.sbs.com.au/home/index.php3?id=65244
The Socceroos have been promised some of the tightest security ever afforded an Australian sporting team for their World Cup play-off match against Uruguay in Montevideo on Sunday (AEDT).
With the first leg kick-off time confirmed for 6pm Saturday local time (7am Sunday AEDT), Uruguayan police chiefs have vowed a security net will be thrown around the Socceroos from their arrival in Montevideo on Friday until they depart the country late Saturday night.
They have promised local fans will be kept well away from the Australian squad in an attempt to avoid any repeat of events for Australia's last World Cup play-off visit in 2001.
Socceroos players were spat on, kicked and punched by a mob on arrival at Uruguay's international airport, then harangued by noisy fans outside their hotel for three days leading up to that match.
Relations between the two nations' football authorities deteriorated in the lead-up to Saturday's game, with Football Federation of Australia (FFA) chief executive John O'Neill warning last month his team could walk off if there was any of the crowd trouble that marred their previous visit.
Montevideo police chief Ricardo Bernal said heavy security would protect the Australian players and officials, who are currently at a pre-match training camp in Argentina.
"There will be a full and strict security cordon surrounding the Australian delegation from the time they reach the airport until the time they leave the country," Bernal told reporters in Montevideo.
Bernal said the Uruguayan government had worked out security arrangements with Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs, police force, and FFA officials.
Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink said he was pleased with security measures and didn't expect any off-field trouble.
"The people within the federation have organised it very well. We have talked everything over and so far it has all been well executed," Hiddink said.
The Socceroos players are also happy with security arrangements, with striker John Aloisi confident there'll be no ugly mob scenes in Uruguay.
"I don't think we're going to get a bad reception in Montevideo. It's normal that they're going to try to get us a little bit scared and whatever," Aloisi said.
"But the boys are going to be prepared for it this time and it'll make us want to win even more when people are trying to get you scared and get on your back."
FIFA ruled on the kick-off time for the first leg match after days of wrangling - providing a compromise deal of sorts for the Socceroos.
Uruguay had initially switched the kick-off time from 4pm to 9pm after arranging a charter flight and believing the Socceroos would not be able to do the same, leaving them stranded in Montevideo for an extra night ahead of Wednesday's second leg in Sydney.
But the Socceroos arranged their own charter flight while Uruguay's fell through, leaving the embarrassed South Americans scurrying to FIFA to help move the kick-off time forward after Australia stood firm and rejected their pleas for a 5pm timeslot.
Sensing FIFA would side with the South Americans, Australian soccer boss O'Neill offered to split the difference with a 7pm kickoff and FIFA compromised by directing it start at 6pm.
O'Neill said Australia was happy to accept FIFA's decision and get on with the game.
Amid the security crackdown, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs has issued an advisory warning to the estimated 250 Australian fans planning to travel to Montevideo to beware of trouble on game day.
"Australians travelling to Uruguay for the FIFA World Cup qualifier are advised to be alert to their own security and avoid any disturbances or offensive behaviour, particularly in or near the stadium on match day," the warning says.

LOL stupid Uruguayan cunts. Doesn't matter, I'll be getting shitfaced on Saturday night and watching it at 7am. I'm going to out and say if we don't score an away goal we won't qualify. We won't lose in Sydney in the second leg, it's just a matter of how well we perform in Montevideo.
I'd like us to make it but I really don't give a shit. Regardless of what happens this is the last time we go through this bullshit qualification process. As of January 1 next year we'll be in the Asian confederation, with a much fairer qualification process.

Well, Australia down 1-0 at halftime in Montevideo, Dario somethingorother (not silva) scored off a set piece.
Pretty unlucky to be going in behind. Australia looks a lot more disciplined than they were 4 years ago, they kept their shape pretty well, and dominated possession early. Viduka was causing the defence a few problems, but he went a bit quiet later on.
This is where Australia capitulated 4 years ago, it'll be intemeresting to see how they react this time.

I was off my head when watching the game this morning so can't remember much but fuck when you consider Uruguay beat Argentina etc at Montevideo then a 1-0 loss, having had better possession, is a pretty fucking good result.
However I believe we're fucked, I thought we had to score over there. I can see them scoring here which means we need 3 goals to win overall. However they play shit away from home. Who the fuck knows, I'll just get pissed and enjoy it

Dunno, chasing the tie may be good for Australia, the last 2 they've gone into the second leg ahead and thrown it away. Hopefully 'times are changing'.
And that side definitely has 3 goals in them, and Uruguay are fucking woeful away from home.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Best feeling ever...holy shit we were right behind the goals for the shootout, fuck it was tense but the place just was WILD at the end. I bag mainstream Aussies for not having football culture (just leaving it to the Greeks, Croats etc to create decent, non-gay atmosphere) but last night in Sydney they turned it on hardcore. Constant chanting, constant booing, hissing, whistling when U-R-Gayans had the ball, EVERYONE united going spastic. I don't give a fuck what anyone says, Australia deserved to beat Uruguay and deserved to qualify. Uruguay are nothing without Recoba, the smelly cunt went off after 70 minutes and stormed up the race , Kewell was sensational (and I'm very critical of the guy usually), Marco Bresciano was superb as was Schwarzer, with two brilliant saves in the shootout. Then Johnny Aloisi put away the winning penalty and we're through!!
And ROFL @ Turkey. JUST WIN 4-2 BUT LOSE ON AWAY GOALS YOU SMELLY CUNTS. MUCK OFF!
