Giants beat em.

Vikings beat the Giants, but the Steelers and Ravens beat the Vikings... Ravens beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh...

Ravens will win the Superbowl.

Mr. Monday Morning
12-31-2005, 12:56 PM
Amazing how bored I am right now.

Miami 34 Denver 10
Denver 20 San Diego 17
Denver 30 Kansas City 10 (MNF)
Denver 20 Jacksonville 7
Denver 21 Washington 19
Denver 28 New England 20
NY Giants 24 Denver 23
Denver 49 Philadelphia 21
Denver 31 Oakland 17
Denver 27 NY Jets 0
Denver 24 Dallas 21 (Thanksgiving)
Kansas City 31 Denver 27
Denver 12 Baltimore 10
Denver 28 Buffalo 17 (Saturday night)
Denver 22 Oakland 3

Bold are away from home.

So that breaks down as

-8-0 at home, 4-3 away.
-1-0 in dome.
-3-0 primetime (if you count the ones marked as primetime, they were outside the usual Sunday afternoon slot anyway).
-Currently 9-2 vs AFC, 3-1 vs NFC.
-Current strength of schedule is a combined 99-98 not counting divisional twice, 121-121 counting twice.
-Record against teams at .500 or better is 6-3
-At home to SD (down 14-3 at the half), home to NE (down 3-0 at the end of the 1st), away to Buffalo (down 7-0 at the end of the 1st). Those 3 games are when they've been behind and won. Otherwise they've lost, or never trailed.

Probably more but that means way more digging than I'm prepared to do.

You're kidding right? About the Hall of Fame part?

Since his "return to coaching" in 1997 he's coached 8yrs.

He made the playoffs twice.

Winning the superbowl once
Losing in the first game once.

I don't see how that added to his resume somehow gets him in the HOF when he didn't make it before (his last year before 1997 was 1982, he was elligible for the HOF and didn't get in).

His Career numbers are
Reg Season - 119-109
Post Season - 6-5 (1 superbowl win, 1 superbowl loss)

Sorry, that's not close to being a HOF coach.

Maybe if he had stayed in STL in 2001 and had a 3rd Confrence title for his resume, or if KC made the playoffs a few times...

Sorry, he's a good coach and he's very emotional, but he's not a HOF coach.

Vermeil joins Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, and Don Shula as the only coaches in NFL history to guide two different teams to the Super Bowl. In 1999, he led St. Louis to a win in Super Bowl XXXIV and guided Philadelphia to Super Bowl XV after the 1980 season.

Ok, we'll ignore all the other stats that make those coaches much better then Vermeil and just pick the one you mentioned.

Super Bowl Records
Shula - 2-4 (6 apperances)
Reeves - 0-4 (4 apperances)
Parcells - 2-1 (3 apperances)
Vermeil - 1-1 (2 apperances)

If you actually take the time, there are many more reasons why those coaches are in or will be and Vermeil shouldn't. Wins, Winning %, Division titles, playoff records, etc...

The whole "winning a super bowl.." yeah, only 38 other coaches have done it (well, less cause some did it more then once) that being said, let's fast foreward to say March of 2105 at that point we will have had 139 superbowls played, does 1 win or 2 apperances still get you in?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good coach and a nice guy, but not HOF matertial.

I thought funnier was the imami TD before that, celebrating with the ally-oop in a game where you're #1 team is barely beating the 3rd string and then to top it off, you miss the ally-oop and get nailed for the 15yr penalty.

now that was funny!

God Damn Vermiel cries a lot

Mr. Monday Morning
01-02-2006, 08:42 AM
So atm we're down Mariucci, Tice, Vermeil and Capers. Haslett and Norv Turner are almost certainties, Martz/Vitt in all likelihood won't be in St Louis, Mularkey may or may not go as well (though he's less likely than those previous). That's 7 vacancies almost certainly, possibly more. Any bets on some replacements/more vacancies?

VonErich Lives
01-02-2006, 09:20 AM
Martz could be a good fit in KC or Minnesota.

Mariucci probably could have a NFL job "if" he wanted it, but words been he wants a TV job.

I woudln't be shocked to see Haslett endup somewhere.

Is Parcells contract up this year or next year? He could decide to "retire again".

might be time for Brian Billick to move on and if he does leave, he'll get another coaching job if he wants it.

Could this be the year Gary Kubiak finally takes a head coaching job?

Seems every year his name comes up and he never goes anywhere, of his own choice...

Mr. Monday Morning
01-02-2006, 09:36 AM
Parcells has 1 year left from what I understand. Ravens already announced that Billick will be there next year.

Mr. Monday Morning
01-02-2006, 10:17 AM
Next year's early schedule is up, no dates/times yet but the teams to be played against should give a good idea what kind of strength of schedule there will be. I won't list the divisional games cause we all know what they'll be, but it basically boils down to

I dunno, I can't see Greg Williams getting rehired as a head coach already.

As for Martz, he's a great offensive mind, the only problem I've always had with him, is he what he's doing isn't working, he's not willing to adapt, it's the "well, it can't be the system it must be the execution" attitude, and seems more willing to force a system on players rather then create a system for the players he has.

That being said, he wouldn't be a horrible fit for the Vikes, with the talent you have, his system could work pretty well and hopefully he learned from his mistakes (see: Belicheck - Cleveland).

I would be very interested to see Martz put his fingerprints on the Vikings offense... everyone wanted us to have a team that won and stopped trying so hard to be an offense-minded team, but that's not fun. The thing is, I just don't think Martz is a very good coach.

You know, I was talking to my brother about this today... how many defensive head coaches are there available besides Ron Rivera to be hired? I mean, are there any who lost their jobs? Aren't ALL of the guys who have been fired... offense-minded coaches? Whenever a defensive coordinator gets a head coaching job, he always keeps his job. Because when you build around defense, you don't have to be that good on offense, and when you focus on the tougher side of the ball, you're bound to be a tougher team because of it.

I think Ron Rivera might be pretty good; Kubiak if at all possible... dunno, someone like that. Bring back Ditka. lol, just no more offense... at least if we plan on winning.

I know we talked pre-season about strength of schedule, which based off 2004 had Miami with the most difficult, the Pats 2nd (only because they played miami where miami played the pats) and the Past had the "toughets stretch in nfl history" I think it was like a 6 game stretch. My points always been that SOS before the season means crap, because you have teams like Miami who go from being
4-12 in 2004 to being 9-7 in 2005
Teams like the Jets
10-6 Playoff team in 2004 to 4-12 in 2005.

I always say, lets look at SOS when the season is over, well it is and here's a link with a break down.

http://www.fftoday.com/sos/sos.htm

a few notes.

Playoff team who had the toughest schedule: New England
Playoff team who had the easiest schedule: Seattle

It's something interesting to look at, but don't put too much stock into it, while it does have some effect, you can't choose who you play, I prefer to look at teams records vs. over .500 teams, if someone has a link or time to to that, please post! thanks!

Also, I dunno if I posted it here but I'll post it again: TICE ASKED TO BE TOLD SOONER THAN LATER WHETHER HE WAS GETTING FIRED. THEY RESPECTED HIS WISHES YET FINISHED THE SEASON RATHER THAN FIRING HIM WITH ONE GAME LEFT (which is what Red did to Denny Green).

So Tice got to go out on top, he went out with a smile, it was an emotional victory, and I hope to see him back in MN someday soon.

I would orgasm 3 million times if he came back as an assistant coach under Parcells. Maybe put Martz in at O-Coordinator ;)

On the Phins I agree, I figured they'd look good, but was suprised how good. They need a QB and some of their defensive stars are getting up in age, but are still on top of their game. and who did you want to give ST player of the week to.

Remember, I'm a Pats fan, but I can't stand Flutie. I respect what he's done for charity (given it's a charity that benefits a disease his son has), anyone I know who has delt with him personally has said he's an ass, and he gets a free ride in this town because he threw a lucky pass, he tried to play in the NFL and couldn't, his WR's complain things like "you have no idea where the ball is coming from because you can't see him back there".

That being said, it being "special" because it hadn't been done since 1941 is crap! (or was it in 41 years?), it's not done because a FG style pick is easier and more accurate.

That being said, what he did is not easy, and I gotta give him props for it. Of course, if the game counted it wouldn't have ever happened, but now he can be in the books for hopefully his last season, for his home team, with a score.

Actually Steve Deosie (former Giant, Pat, Jet) and local radio guy, played at BC, I think same time as Flutie said a few of them used to do them at practice for fun.

I just give him credit because it's not easy to do, hit the ground just right, kick etc... it's funny, I don't think anyone think's it's a great accomplishment, it's simply something not seen for many years and it was found funny.

My brother is a Phins fan, he couldn't figure out what was more embarasaing, Flutie hitting that kick, or the missed ally-op which also got a 15yd penalty when the Phins 1st team was barely beating the Pats cheerleaders.

It's actaully better then back in the day, because when they did it all the time, the ball was mad differently and you bounce the ball back up, like a rugby ball. So when they used to do it, they didn't do it like Flutie, where he kicked right when the ball touched the ground. They used to let to bounce back up then kick it.

First let me say, in all fairness he got some things right, he called the Colts D top 5 and we all laughed at him, he predicted Orton could lead the Bears and make the playoffs and we all laughed at him and a few other things.

Also, I'll be the first to say, you can find plenty of things I screwed up (so did everyone) such as last year when I felt Tiki Barber was a 1yr fluke (he did it again this year, he even had less fumbles this year! Plus my "The Jets will make the playoffs and possible the division" didn't exactly pan out did it?

But, since me and RP enjoy our back and forth, and he stands by his team and I really needed a distraction for a few mins... her's some quotes of RP's from before the season.

As said, he got some right and some wrong, and I'd never call him the "Wadding" of the forum!

Ok, I’m bored so a little RP history from before the season.

In the North , Everyone is in love with the Vikings. I'm in love with Detroit. I'll take Detroit coming out of this division. Once they bench Harrington ( THEY WILL BENCH HARRINGTON ) Garcia will run that team brilliantly. Mooch might be chasing a Superbowl ring soon.

In the South , Carolina is going to be big this year.

In the West, I love Arizona . They got a great Offense. If they're O-line protects Warner just a little bit. they'll be 8-8. I think they will win the division by default.

The Seahawks just seem like a train wreck waiting to happen. I bet that Shaun Alexander issue will catch fire during the season and disrupt.

In the North, Baltimore Ravens. I think Kyle Boller is ready to step up and be a Superstar. Jamal Lewis has his court deal behind him. They have a decent core of recievers and Todd Heap is one of the best tight ends in the league. They're defense is one of the best in the league. I think Pittsburgh will have a horrible downfall to 8-8.

In the West , I like the Chiefs.

Denver will be Denver. A whole lot of bark. Not alot of bite. Probably will finish last in the division.

In the South, I'm taking Indianapolis.

You'll hear it here first. Look out for the Texans. This team worries me. They have a good defense and David Carr is the next Brett Farve imo. The guy slings it. He's one of the most exciting QB's in the league for me to watch. He's got a solid rb and great recievers to throw too. If they can protect him and he can cut down on his Int's. The Texans are going to the playoffs this year.

NFL MVP = You know , this may be a stretch , but i'm going to say Willis McGahee.

NFL rookie of the year= Cedric Benson. I just have a hunch here.

Vinatari will get hurt and the Patriots will sign Doug Brien.

I almost picked the Ravens as AFC Champs.

J.P Losman is the second coming of Kenny Stabler.

If Losman doesnt make huge mistakes, Buffalo can go to the Superbowl.

The Broncos, Bengals, Browns, Dolphins, Texans, and Raiders arent going to the playoffs. Are they a challenge? Maybe, but the Bills have a better team then all of them. The only team even close to the Bills ( Out of that group ) is the Bengals.

Im picking the Cheifs to win the West and i dont think the Chargers will do anything better then 8-8.

This year will be the most important in Mannings career. He has the best Defense he's ever had on his team. Every peice from last years Offense is in tact with the exception of Pollard and an O-linemen. There really isnt any excuses this year. This team should win the Superbowl, but if they cant beat the Pats... Tuff shit for Manning.

Ya know, I was looking at this the other day, after picking Seattle to go to the superbowl and then posting the SOS link above...

They had he 4th easiest schedule in the NFL.

that being said, they were 4-2 against teams .500 or above, they were 2-2 against teams that made the playoffs.

So, while they did have a lot of bad teams on their schedule, when they played the good ones they won 2/3 of them and 1/2 of them vs playoff teams.

No we can argue the Indy game shouldn't count, Indy had nothing to prove, homefield, streak over, coach out.... so if you take that game away.

3-2 vs good teams, 1-2 against playoffs teams.

The example I use for a "paper team" is SD of last year, who was (if I remember correctly) 2-4 against good teams.

That dropkick is not as hard as people think it is. It's fairly easy once you get the bounce down. If that was the first time he had ever tried it would've been more impressive but guys in rugby can drop kick a ball a good 50 yards. Not to sound self servient but I made a 40 meter (roughly 43 yards) drop kick and I was just some high school rugby punk.

I just enjoyed the fact that they even thought about trying it. Good for them

I thought I heard it was a done deal for a 4th round pick.

The rumor is the Jets are getting Hasslet.

The Chiefs and Jets finally agreed to compensation Friday, leaving Edwards free to negotiate with Kansas City to replace longtime mentor Dick Vermeil. The Jets, in turn, will receive a surprisingly low fourth-round pick from Kansas City.

Though Edwards technically remained Jets coach until a new deal with the Chiefs was finished, the organization started the process of replacing him. On their list of candidates are their three top assistants: defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff, along with Baltimore offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, former Saints coach Jim Haslett and former Packers coach Mike Sherman.

I think the Seattle defense will get exposed in the playoffs. Jim Sorgi and the second stringers of Indy were moving the ball on Seattle somewhat effectivly and they only lost by two td's. Thats with Seattle playing there first stringers on both sides for majority of the game.

I would love to see them in the Superbowl, but like i said. I think someone will break that defense.

I picked Redskins in the NFC. Just a feeling and Portis has been amazing lately.

One last thing about the dropkick...the last person to do it before Flutie actually coached for one year at my high school haha. WOBURN PRIDE BABY

You mean Wu-Town! :D

So, did you hear there was another offer for Edwards? The Patriots offered a 3rd round pick if the Jets keep him :p

Actually, I don't think Edwards is a bad coach, it just seems it tight games they have some "clock management skills" that are off.

I thought the NFL banned trades for coaches after the Oakland/Bucs trade for... what's his name... blondie... the douchebag who coaches the Bucs.

This Tampa Bay/Washington game isn't too competitive. I was gunning for TB all the way, but at this point (8:42 in the 2nd quarter, 14 - 3 Washington), that might just be a blind hope.

I'm really looking to the Patriots/Jaguars. Been waiting for that all dayyyyy.

Wow the Redskins are the most annoying team in the NFL. Everyone on their team is a huge ass hole except for like Jon Jansen. I am gonna punch LaVar Arrington in the face because he lives like 20 minutes away from me.

LOL at Sean Taylor injuring his teammate also

Yea, but then it will end up as a farce. The QB will be in trouble and intentionally hit the ref.
