early game. Jays won (8-3) WOOO!

Ok, look at this. differnt subject, look at what Clement had to say about his start yesterday being pushed until tommorow...
May 11 The Hartford Courant's David Heuschkel reports Boston Red Sox SP Matt Clement, who was originally supposed to pitch Wednesday, May 10, against the New York Yankees, has had his start pushed to May 12. "In all due respect, I'm doing what they tell me and I really don't have much comment on it," Clement said. "I really don't want to comment on the whole situation. I'm usually pretty open. But it serves me better not to make a comment."

LOL, there's always drama in Beantown.

Have you watched the second half of baseball the last 5 years? Oakland owns it. Everyone is injured or slumping and they still are in 1st/2nd place. Just wait, it'll be about the same time the Blue Jays are fading out

jays aren't gonna fade.

Red Sox woulda won by more if it wasn't for two homers gettin' robbed, figures one of the catches would be from Damon.

Just heard that the Yankees are interested in Griffey. If I remember correctly, Griffey said he'd never play for the Yankees though.

I know he's kind of broken down and will probably get injured after about 7 seconds (and it probably won't happen), but the thought of Griffey in pinstripes is pretty exciting.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
05-12-2006, 01:07 PM
Yankees would probably have to trade a lot of their top prospects for him though, and he has that injury issue. I dunno who they have for prospects though? Trading away all their young guys has to catch up with them at some point you'd think, can't keep offering guys 18-20/year contracts because they seem to keep piling up. (Not sure when Giambi is off the books, but I am pretty sure he still has a few years)

FakeLaser
05-12-2006, 01:45 PM
It's catching up with us already.

I don't think we'd have enough to land Griffey (which is a good thing). Most of our better prospects are in A ball, save Eric Duncan and Andy Phillips (who is underrated, IMO).

BCWWF

Santana vs. Garland

Jesus Shuttlesworth

If all their best prospects are in A ball then I think if the Yankees are going to go get anyone worth anything they'd have to trade Cano. Or just tons and tons of cash

BCWWF
05-12-2006, 04:49 PM
Dear ESPN,
Just because the Yankees lost their left fielder doesn't mean that other teams are going to drop everything and trade good players to them. It's what, two months into the season, and suddenly the Phillies want to trade Bobby Abreu and the Twins want to trade Shannon Stewart and Torii Hunter?

FYI, teams don't trade based on the Yankees need. The Twins are waiting on a new stadium, if one is passed this session, the Twins won't be involved in a fire sale. If the stadium bill is not passed and the Twins are out of contention come June, then the Twins might start making trades. Just because the Yankees need somebody doesn't mean teams are just going to trade to them.

Dragon
05-12-2006, 04:59 PM
Matsui was a big player to lose but I see all these people saying we should trade off all our young players to get someone now. There is no reason to even think about getting someone like Soriano.

Bringing up someone like Kevin Thompson wouldn't be bad, he has speed and plays the outfield well. Even having Bubba Crosby out there for a while won't hurt, I mean he was our starting center fielder in the playoffs last year and did well. Once Sheff comes back that is another big bat back in the lineup.

With a lineup that has Damon, Jeter, Giambi, A-Rod, Posada, Cano, etc...there should be no problem scoring runs. Anyway, we have gotten by this season with Matsui slumping, only batting .250/.260 so trying out some younger guys won't hurt.

YOUR Hero
05-12-2006, 05:27 PM
Abreu was shopped around alot by the Phillies in the off season, so you never know... They tried to swing a Wells/Abreu trade with Toronto. No dice.

FakeLaser
05-12-2006, 05:30 PM
Bubba Crosby will be fine out there. That's only 2 outfielders though. I'm not sold on Melky Cabrera, he is a pretty decent prospect but I don't think he's big league ready. We need guys out there that can play defense. We have plenty of offense. Bernie Williams definitely is not the answer. It doesn't matter if the replacement is detrimental to the offense, but we don't want the replacement to be a detriment defensively.

Dragon
05-12-2006, 05:38 PM
Yeah, I think Melky still needs to develop some more, not sure if he is ready yet. He only played one game in right field in the minors before he was put in there against Boston, and that was the day before he was called up. Bringing up Thompson will help though.

I am hoping that Torre doesn't overdo it with Bernie in the outfield though, something that I can see happening.

FakeLaser
05-12-2006, 05:43 PM
I have a feeling we're looking at a Damon, Williams, Crosby outfield for a while, unfortunately.

Dragon
05-12-2006, 05:44 PM
Well, looking at ESPN they have Bernie in right against Oakland tonight, switching Melky over to left. Honestly hope its not what they plan to do too often while Matsui is out.

Dragon
05-12-2006, 05:49 PM
Torre said Cabrera is going to be in the outfield most of the time if not everyday while he is up, so it looks like Bubba is the odd man out again which is a shame, he should be in left with Cabrera in right. I know he is not an all-star player or anything but he goes all out on every play in the outfield or at bat.

When's the last time you head a player appologize for getting hurt?

Matsui apologizes for injury

NEW YORK (AP) - Immediately following surgery Friday to repair a broken wrist that will sideline him for at least three months, Hideki Matsui (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/114762) apologized for getting hurt.

Matsui was injured trying to make a diving catch in left field during the New York Yankees (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71596)' 5-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71588) on Thursday night. The broken radius bone ended his consecutive games played streak that dated to August 1993 and included 1,250 games with the Yomiuri Giants (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71612) in Japan and 518 with the Yankees (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71596).

"Due to this injury, I feel very sorry and, at the same time, very disappointed to have let my teammates down," Matsui said in a statement. "I will do my best to fully recover and return to the field to help my team once again."
Yankees (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71596) manager Joe Torre spoke with Matsui, who was operated on at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Torre expects Matsui will return to the ballpark in the next few days and remain in the New York area while his wrist heals.
Torre wasn't surprised by the apology.
"It's all about responsibility - what he thinks his responsibility is to this team, this organization, because the Yankees (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71596) committed to him and he feels it's a two-way street in that regard," Torre said. "He's done that before here, where he's made an error, he's come up and apologized to me."
Matsui's statement also praised his manager.
"I would like to thank Joe Torre from the bottom of my heart for having been considerate of my consecutive games played streak these past several years and for placing me in the lineup every day," he said.
With right fielder Gary Sheffield (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85606) also on the disabled list with a left wrist injury that will keep him out of the lineup until at least late May, New York will go with a makeshift outfield that includes Bubba Crosby (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/140903) and Melky Cabrera (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/340181) in the corners on most days, with Bernie Williams (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85250) sharing time.
Torre estimated that Matsui will miss most of the remainder of the season.
"We don't know what the timetable is. It's probably a minimum of three months," Torre said. "I think my feeling is, with everything involved and trying to get back into game shape, it's probably closer to the end of the year, the end of the season."
Matsui was put on the 15-day disabled list, and outfielder Kevin Reese (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/338865) was recalled from Triple-A Columbus.
"I was back at my place in Columbus, and getting ready packing for Norfolk," said Reese, who got the call about 12:30 a.m. "I was supposed to fly out this morning. A little nicer here."
Reese had gone out with Clippers teammates to watch Thursday night's game. He didn't see the play when Matsui got hurt, but then saw a replay.
"I started getting all these text messages from my family and stuff, 'What's going on?"' Reese said.
Reese was picked over Columbus teammate Kevin Thompson.
"He called me. He said, 'You hear anything?"' Reese recalled. "I said, 'No, have you?' And he said, 'No.' He told me to call him if I heard anything, but I didn't get the call till late and didn't exactly know how to make that phone call, anyway."
Torre addressed the Yankees (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/71596) before Friday night's game against Oakland to tell them how the surgery went. After getting about an hour of treatment on his shoulder and foot, center fielder Johnny Damon (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85305) said the absences of Matsui and Sheffield left a big void.
"That's two to three runs a game. And that's quality at-bats that give us more and more chances to succeed," Damon said. "But we know what we have to do. We know during this time when Gary's out, we've got to bear down."
Damon said that when he ran into the center-field wall to catch a drive by Doug Mirabelli (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/84954) on Thursday, "It rattled me a little bit."
"I got to try to be a little more graceful," he said.

Yeah Carlos Silva is just awful this year, I don't know whats wrong. It didn't help that Batista and Castillo had erros in there, but taking two of two against the White Sox isn't bad, especially for the Twins right now. The White Sox have the division in the bag, but a big second half could steal the wildcard from the AL East.

If the Twins starting pitching can come around, they will at least compete late in the season. Right now the offense is clicking, playing effective small ball, but then starting pitching gives up a big inning and everything falls apart. BAH

Carlos Silva to the pen and Francisco Liriano to the rotation this week, FYI. At least there's two capable guys now.

The Miz

The Rangers cannot pitch.
The Angels cannot hit.
The Mariners cannot do anything.

That leaves the A's, who despite having all but 2 players slumping or injured the first month and a half managed to stay within 2 games of first, and now they are in a tie for first and their players are getting healthier. The A's make a run EVERY YEAR all throughout the summer. Check who has the best second half record over the last 5-6 years; it's not New York, Boston, St. Louis or Atlanta.

And yeah 21-19 is horrible. If 21-19 makes them "bad" what does that make the 22-17 Blue Jays?

Johnson continues with his spectacular pitching. Kind of ridiculous he is basically our #5 guy right now. Even Jaret Wright has been much better than him. On the subject of pitching, Pavano has to have surgery after throwing a couple pitches in a rehab game. So I'm pretty sure he has to be one of the worst signings ever, hasn't pitched in close to a year.

But yeah, Yankees are in tough shape right now. Matsui, Sheffield, Crosby are all out. Damon hurt his foot, I guess Posada came out of the game today with back pain (don't know if its anything serious).

Melky Cabrera has been good though. He's hitting well and improving in right.

Was really a bad game, 7 errors I believe. Billy Wagner implodes and gives up 4 runs though, so a win is a win. In tight spots Cabrera worked a walk and A-Rod hits into another double play.

Both games gone to the closers. Wagner was dominant last night and then just is awful today. Mariano wasn't good last night and was great today.

AJ only had a bad rep when he was on the Giants because of some random news article where a bunch of pussy pitchers anonymously bitched him out. Duque's coming back to NY, in a spacious ballpark, away from Arizona (which he disliked), and back to pitching every 5 days. Also, his team is filled with Latino friends. Not to mention he's a proven clutch pitcher. He'd make a solid #4 or #5 for 2006

I didn't say anything of the sort, but the White Sox ARE defending champs.

The difference between the White Sox and the Red Sox (outside of waiting so long to get a title) is that White Sox fans didn't have to make up some lame ass curse to make them feel better about having shitty teams. They took losing to a new level and made it personal and built up a "nation" of depression.

The best we can do is say that we stopped going to games for a few years because our owner was public enemy #1 in reguards to the 1994 strike.

My argument at the time was not that they were bad players (at the time Beltre was good) but that they were high priced guys to buy when the Mariners were out of contention for the next couple years. But meh. That series was too bad for the Mariners, just couldn't get the guys in. Ichiro kind of slipped up in the 10th. The line drive that Cuddyer caught wasn't too bad, but the one that Torii caught against the wall Ichiro could have made a break for home if he got the right jump.

Damn Sox tie up in the 8th after being 6 runs down for the majority of the game then lose the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Red Sox just need to step it up with their pitching a little bit and I think they will be alright. They got the offense obviously and so far they've had the best defense in the majors. While people are quick to point out how they've lost the majority of their games to teams over .500, a lot of those games where 1 or 2 run games. So if the pitchers could just step it up they'd be all set.

The biggest problem in recent history for the Red Sox has been the closer. The one year they had a good closer (Foulke before he lost "it") they won the World Series. So I am feeling pretty good with Papelbon as the closer, hopefully it relates to equal success.

Loretta 1 HR 25 RBI .317 AVG + 12 doubles and a 14 game hitting streak going
Lowell 7 HR 29 RBI .322 AVG + 23 doubles
Youkilis 5 HR 24 RBI .317 AVG + 34 BB and 57 runs scored
Nixon 3 HR 26 RBI .299 AVG

Varitek is slumping a bit (Only hitting .239) and Gonzalez is only in the game for his defense - other than that the offense has been pretty good. Youkilis has been doing great as the lead off man and now that Crisp is back from his injury the lineup will only improve. Many people have Lowell slated as the "Comeback Player of the Year" already. Granted it is still very early so things could change I guess but saying the team's offense is based strictly off of Manny and Ortiz is pretty dumb.

Also, Clement can't pitch againest anyone really, it is not just the Jays. I'll give the Jays credit though, they seem to keep pulling games out againest the Sox. they could use another bat. Ortiz/ Manny almost make up half your teams homeruns

Jesus Shuttlesworth
05-30-2006, 04:07 PM
Manny and Ortiz will probably both hit 40+ homers so that is 80 or so homers between the 2 of them. I am sure a few other guys will be up around 25-30 homers then some themselves so I really do not see them needing another bat. When Wily Mo comes back from the DL they will have to come off the bench and he can provide some power so I think that is the least of the Red Sox worries. The offense is not the problem, it is the inconsistant starting pitching and a few of the relievers.

McDoogle

The offense is not the problem, it is the inconsistant starting pitching and a few of the relievers.

You could say that about the Jays too though. The Jay's bats are obviously there, if their pitching is more consistant they'd be first in the AL by a long shot. Letting Josh Towers lose that many games was fucking ridiculous. BJ Ryan is a monster and once Burnett comes back as well as a healthy Chacin, the Jays can seriously win this division.

I heard today from a St. Louis fan (based on what he read in a Cards message board) that the Cards were going to trade for Torii Hunter and that the Yankees already rejected an offer of Torii for Cano and Wang. Seriously, why would the Twins trade for a second baseman and fifth starter?

If the A's lose one of their games with Royals, I will be very upset.

Try not to be too upset today.

I have a DeJesus tee shirt. When the Royals give out free tee shirts, they give out 20,000 of them. About 20,000 people show up on those days as well.

Wow, Wells and Glaus were amazing. Jays continue to feist on Sox pitching. I guess the Sox are starting a pitcher called up from Double A today. lol should be interesting.

The Jays score big against the RSOX starters, but then get virtually shut out by the RSOX bullpen. Boston makes a comeback, but then fall short.

Been 2 good games to watch... if you're a Jays fan.

Roger Clemens will be back in an Astros uniform this summer. The Rocket, 43, has agreed to a four-month deal, unretiring for a third time and returning to Houston, where the seven-time Cy Young winner pitched the last two seasons. Story (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2464315)

Rangers get:
2B/OF Jerry Hairston Jr.

Cubs get:
1B/OF Phil Nevin

Should be interesting to see what the Cubs will do with Nevin. They'll probably platoon him with Todd Walker at first, but I think they should let him be the regular 1B and move Walker back to 2B. When Derrek Lee gets back though he's going to have nothing to do.
