I find myself rooting for the Giants this time. Freddy "Dirty" "Clubby" Sanchez was always a class act in PGH and deserves to have a ring for the time he spent here in futility.

Buck Showalter: "The Baltimore Orioles will win the the A.L. East in 2011"
fuck yeah!
unless they finish dead last again
Teams Buck Showalter manages, usually become good and make the World Series AFTER he leaves.
He was Manager of the Yankees...left...and then they made the World Series in 1996 (and won).
He was Manager of the Diamondbacks...left...and then they made the World Series in 2001 (and won).
He was Manager of the Rangers...left...and they made the World Series this year...
...if the Rangers WIN, then it all can't be a coincidence. Showalter knows his baseball.
So all u Orioles fans, don't worry, your team will win as soon as Buck leaves. Enjoy the process of seeing the man go to work and revamp that organization, laying the groundwork for a winning team.

Putting Vlad in the outfield backfired badly for the Rangers along with the 4 errors.
Aguakate
10-28-2010, 01:32 PM
They need to put Vlad in Left Field, that's where outfielders go before they retire, when they can't play Right or Center Field. Putting him in Right Field was a good idea in 2000, not so in 2010.
Triple Naitch
10-28-2010, 01:51 PM
They'll probably use Murphy for tonight's game in right. Gives them an extra lefty against Cain and Vlad can serve as a late pinch hitter. Then they go back to Texas and Vlad can return to DH.

Rangers will show up in Game 3. Lewis is thier stopper. I expect Texas to blow up on the offensive side as well.
Game 4 is going to be a game of which starter pitcher can make it to the 5th or 6th with minimal damage.

Dunno why there needed to be a "This" post for that. Like Juan clearly answered the question fine, and nobody was doubting Juan's answer.
Seems like the only reasons to post "This" in this situation is to say "Hey guys I knew the answer too!" or to try and act like the person asking the question is stupid. But that was a reasonable question IMHO.

I guess I never really attribute torture to a fan base that hasn't had a championship team. Like it's only torture if your team won before so you got a taste of it and it's been torture trying to get it back. And yeah the Giants won before but it wasn't in San Francisco so it's not like San Franciscans knew what they were missing out on.
If Texas would've won nobody would've called it an end to 49 years of torture because the Rangers had never won a title before.
Also "What?" @ 56 years of "losing." You've had 34 winning seasons out of 52 seasons in San Fran. Not to mention you had both the greatest all around player of all time and the all time home run leader on your teams. If that's what passes for tortured, I'm moving to Guantanamo.

Lincecum probably now gets viewed as best pitcher in MLB since he managed to outduel Cliff Lee twice, Halladay twice, and Lowe all in the same postseason while only loosing 1 game out of 6.
He didn't outduel Halladay twice n00b, they went 1-1.

:shifty: this.
Actually, winning seasons followed by a disappointing postseason is far more stressful, or torturous, than an uneventful losing year. So by the statistics you've so graciously provided, we've had more stressful years than not. But of course, the context of my previous statement was obvious. 56 years of not winning a world championship.
So okay, by your logic Cubs fans aren't really going through torture, since they don't know what they're missing out on? It's been 100 years, safe to assume the city has nearly forgotten the feel of their last world championship. Go watch Game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. Watch all the crying fans. I assure you, they know what they're missing out on.

What are you talking about tb1. You completely missed the point. Cubs fans are the best example of tortured fans. The whole point is that past success brings expectations and entitlement. Nobody in San Francisco had any connection to a world champion baseball team. They can't look at past San Francisco teams and say look at when we were the best. They can't look at a time when their city had the best baseball team in the world. There's no emotional connection to the New York teams.
So just like fans in Houston, Dallas, Seattle, Tampa, DC, there is no connection to past championships that would "torture" fans like there is in Chicago and Cleveland.
Also I don't even know how you can argue this when you didn't even mention you were a fan until the Giants were in contention.

What? There is absolutely an emotional connection between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Giants. The 1954 World Series may have been won by the New York Giants, but it's still a Giants victory. "The Catch", "shot heard 'round the world" are huge in the bay area.
The whole "your city has to win to be tortured" thing is stupid. There's been plenty of torture for this team, and it's fans for years. You can't just throw on this stipulation and null any frustrations non-pennant winning fans have.

You're right I can't. Just like you can't reference some disappointing postseasons and call it torture.

I am not a Giants fan or even really a baseball fan. I tagged along during the NCLS because it was fun. tb1 on the other hand has indeed been a Giants fan since he was like 4 years old. His entire family is absolutely fucking nutty about the Giants and always have been. His dad would probably sell his children for Giants tickets.
Again, the "torture" gimmick has nothing to do with the 56 years since the last WS win, it was an on going joke about the 2010 season.

I managed to mix up one of his wins as another Halladay win when he lost the 2nd game to Halladay. ESPN counted his 3rd game in relief against the Phillies as a "win" on his game log but he didn't get the result.
So he actually went 4-1 instead of 5-1 in the playoffs.
