Meh. My only goal going into the series was to not get swept. I'm not foolish enough to say the Mets were better than the Phils or anything after a good winning streak in April...but if they were to get swept the optimism would be right out the window.
Getting shutout by Halladay is nothing to be ashamed of. Johan getting rocked sucks and everything but he's been money in pretty much all his other starts. It happens.
That being said, if they get swept by the Reds lose their next 2 series' or something then talk of Manuel's future will probably start right back up again.

Wrigley Report
So we drove in saturday morning. Checked into the Marriott on the Magnificent Mile. We took the Red Line ( hated this ) to Addison and practically walked off and right into the whole Wrigley area. This was amazing. It's like a tiny city built for Cubs baseball. We ended up going into the Sports Corner until the game. Once we got into Wrigley, our seats were literally the very top along the 1st base line, but the thing is, they were great seats. You could see everything. And no one really bought seats up there so were just getting drunk, shooting the shit with other people in the stands and watching big floppy titted hotties walk bye constantly. Honestly, there were so many gorgeous females at Wrigley. Tits flopping and bouncing. It must have been no braw day and it was fannnnnnnnnnntastic.
The game itself was great if you could get past the Carlos Silva stinch that was smellable from where we were sitting. Several lead changes. The epic moment was obviously Soriano's 2 run HR. Everyone was going nuts when he didnt get the ball 4 count, but then he crushes it and it was bonkers. When he went back out to the outfield the next innning, the crowd was going nuts for him.
After the game we hung out for a bit. Got some subway. Then got on the Red Line and headed back. Every place around our hotel had big time wait times. We tried PF Changs, ESPN Zone. We ended up mixing in some intense air hockey when we were at ESPN zone. Two of my buddies went to some chinese place and me and another buddy went to California Pizza Kitchen . It was decent.
Great time. Chicago is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!! The buildings where everywhere. It was kinda awesome and i cant wait to go back.
Nothing like chain resteraunts to get a taste of great Chicago cuisine.

yeah!
Unless for some reason Javy Vazquez pitches all 3 games I don't really think that will happen. You get 3 of our best pitchers. Sabathia/ Burnett/ Pettitte. So I think we might be able to take at least 2 of the games.

Wow, 2 people in 2 days run on to the field. I still don't think that guy should of gotten tasered for running on to the field. I haven't really ever seen that before. Was this security guard like really out of shape? Why couldn't he just tackle him?
I have only seen one instance where a guy runs on to the field and that guy just got chased and then they tackled him and dragged him out of the stadium.
Isn't that mostly how it's done?

Bullpen wasn't used as much so far against the Angels which ended up being a huge blessing since they kept giving away too many runs over the last few weeks. I do like how the starting pitching is starting to become what was expected at the start of the season and the team is hitting and scoring better than before.
Supposedly the 1st game against the Angels, the team had a closed door meeting to help snap out of their funk.

Nationals Park Report
So we drove in wednesday afternoon. Left my house to drive to the Vienna-Fairfax GMU metro station. We took the Orange Line ( loved this ) to L'Enfant Plaza and did backflips on the train and then switched to the Green Line and took it to Navy Yard and practically walked off and right into the whole Nationals Park area. This was not amazing. It's like a tiny street built for Nationals baseball. We ended up walking around the staidum until the game. Once we got into Nationals Park, our seats were literally the third row along the first base line, but the thing is, they were great seats. You could see everything. And no one really bought seats up there because nobody ever buys Nationals tickets so were just getting yelling at Braves fans, shooting the shit with other people in the stands and business men in suits and kids rooting for the Braves walk by constantly. Honestly, there were so many Braves fans at Nationals Park.. Fake tomahawks flopping and bouncing. It must have been go Braves day and it was not fannnnnnnnnnntastic.
The game itself was great if you could get past the Luis Atilano stinch that was smellable from where we were sitting. Several lead changes. The epic moment was obviously the Nationals tying it in the 8th inning. Everyone was going nuts when he didnt get the ball 4 count, but then he crushes it and it was bonkers. When he went back out to the outfield the next innning, the crowd was going nuts for him.
After the game we hung out for a bit. Got on the subway. Then got on the Orange Line and headed back, did a backflip and my friend did one backflip and one frontflip. Every place around the exit to the Metro parking lot was big time wait times. People weren't sure if they could go through the gate for SmarTrip cards only, or for credit cards, so there was mass confusion which took about 15 minutes to get out. We tried the right line. We ended up mixing in some intense honking when we were in the right line. Me and a buddy finally got out. It was decent.
Great time. Washington is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!! The buildings where nowhere to be found in Southeast DC. It was kinda awesome and i cant wait to go back.

Jays are doing about what I expected. Which is better than everyne thought they'd do. They aren't going anywhere, they won't make a real wildcard push, but they are not as terrible as everyone was thinking. Their pitching is 'Brand X' (not well known) but it's pretty decent, the offence isn't crappy, it lacks, but it's not terrible. I'm pretty sure they finish right around .500. That ain't bad considering the division they're in.

After losing Halladay I would of expected kind of a reverse of Boston Red Sox/Blue Jays. I mean like if you asked me this off season where Toronto would be I would have said the Jays would be in 4th place with the Sox in third. Romero is doing really good for them.

The Yankees rotation excluding Vazquez has been crazy so far (ERAs) -

I doubt he's intentionally hitting guys with the bases loaded, but his whole attitude on the mound made some of those look deliberate. Cervelli steps out and Beckett complains and the next pitch is way inside for ball four. Was hoping for a split with the Os winning the 2nd game vs Scott Baker as a best case scenario going in but maybe they can win both now if they can hold on to this 7-3 lead in the 8th.

Supposedly it started off because A-Rod broke a golden rule about non-pitchers walking on the mound and it pissed off the current opponent pitcher at the time. Instead of A-Rod saying he made a mistake, he ends up making fun of Braden being a no-namer and Braden took it personal.

The picture of Byrnes tumbling over Veritek, limping around, arguing with the ump while not touching home and then getting tagged out is priceless. Then I don't know wtf Tejada was thinking standing around between 3rd and home while he's about to be tagged out. One of those innings I'll never forget.

Wish they would have had Nova pitch in Pettitte's spot instead of Mitre. At least Nova is stretched out as a starter, I'm guessing Mitre can go 4-5 innings tops since he's been in the pen and had week long stretches of not being used.

All Braden's been talking about since that happened is how something will be done when they meet again. Not sure how much of a message an 88 MPH fastball will send but it seems pretty certain that something will happen that series.
Its kinda funny because in that interview the other week it was brought up that they don't do much talking in the 209, but all Braden's been talking about (before the perfect game) was A-Rod and how disrespectful he is.

They need to make Winn the left fielder and have Thames and Miranda platoon in the DH spot while Nick and Granderson are out. Having Winn the everyday LF isn't ideal but I honestly can't deal with seeing Thames out there anymore. He is one of the worst fielders I've seen.
A Thames/Miranda platoon isn't too bad since Thames hits lefties and Miranda hits righties well. They need to find some consistency with the lineup until some guys get back.
It'd be nice to see an everyday lineup of Gardner-Jeter-Tex-ARod-Cano-Swisher-Posada-Thames/Miranda-Winn while guys are out. I like Swisher more towards the middle of the lineup than the 2 spot. Especially since he's raking right now.

The answer should be "yes" since they wouldn't want to risk arm fatigue or an injury for a short term shot at the playoffs when he's meant to be a long-term starting pitcher and future ace for the team.
It also assumes the core of players the team has would be staying and don't have a huge drop in stats for the next season.

Tampa Bay also had a long development plan as well that started to show off good results the last 2 years.
Not only that, but Peter Angelos, owner of the Orioles, as a condition of the Expos moving to DC, got a stake in the regional Network (MASN) that airs both Os and Nats games. If the Nats continue to get better and become a bigger draw, he's going to make money off the Nats through MASN (to the best of my knowledge they haven't yet hit it off that well locally in the tv dept)
Angelos is probably going to have to kick the bucket in order to be removed as the Os owner, but he's 81 this year so it might not take so long (or he could end up living to be 140 and torture Baltimore for 60 more years)..

Bay puzzles me. He has 1 HR and like 4 triples. Although he hasn't hit HRs on the road either, it still speaks volumes about Citi Field. Young sluggers aren't going to want to sign there if their HR numbers are guaranteed to decrease and ruin their future earnings potential.
It's a shame too...I love Citi Field and I enjoy that it's a pitchers park, but it just looks bad when the team really isn't built for the park yet. This is why I would love if they brought in Carl Crawford. That's the kind of hitter that they would need for Citi.

*sigh*
Nick Johnson is going in for surgery. The 6 million dollar gamble failed. The DH spot is now a revolving door between Miranda, Thames, and *insert veteran here*.
I hear Jermaine Dye is available....

Maybe Posada could be our DH. Cervelli has been doing such a good time at Catcher I say we ease Posada into being the DH.

You mean we wouldn't have to deal with Jorge's amazing catching abililty and throwing ability?

lol the Orioles :'(
Yeah, that 8 run 9th on saturday was extremely depressing considering how well pitched the game had been for the first 8.

I thought Posada was going to DH half the time this year already?

I guess if that NFL QB thing falls through for Tebow he can always go play baseball somewhere.
You thought a baseball blog was a good place to hide from Tim Tebow news? Think again!
Considering the hype surrounding his client, Tebow's agent thought it would be a good idea to hide him in Memphis for a few days; Elvis, after all, lives there in plain sight. Alas, once neighbors figured out who Jimmy Sexton's guest was, they came a-knockin' and blew Tebow's cover.
But not before Tebow got in some whacks -- not at the critics who consider Josh McDaniels and the Denver Broncos (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/den/) cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs for trading up to take Tebow in the first round of the NFL Draft.
No, these whacks came at batting practice with the high school kids on the Memphis University School baseball team (http://www.musowls.org/NetCommunity/Baseball).
Tebow hit 12 homers on 15 pitches.
Of course he did.

I've heard that Cervelli might be going full time next year. And Jorge will be the full time DH. I was listening to that gasbag Francesa this afternoon saying "Oh, Cervelli has fizzled out really fast. Posada better get back behind the plate."
Made me laugh, and angry at the same time.

His numbers compared to Manny's was about a few HRs and RBIs less the last few years but he was a bit more inconsistent for long stretches compared to Manny.
His biggest value was while Manny goofed off too much and got upset over things that shouldn't be a big issue, Bay was more reliable and didn't cause any off field issues/distractions.
