God damn. Really torn on tonight's game. Mets were down 6-1 and showed a shitload of fight, worked out a load of walks, had the Marlins 'pen nervous as fuck, and tied it. Then Hisanori Takahashi goes on and gives up a run in the 10th to lose it, making the comeback meaningless.
Probably as gutting as an April loss could be, but ah well. Mets should just put a ban on Asian players at this point. They never work out in Queens.
Red Sox offense didn't turn it on tonight when they needed to. People are calling into the local sports station panicking about Ortiz and how he should be benched for Lowell just because he's started the season 1-11. I'm willing to give him a month as the primary DH for the team, which is more than a lot of people will say, and if he is still behind on fastballs and hitting poorly, then he should platoon with Lowell or Hermida if Lowell is traded.
Solid outing by Lackey tonight. :y:

Apparently the chief ump for the Yankees/Sox series called both teams "emabrassing, a disgrace to baseball" and "pathetic and embarassing. They take too long to play."
Weird way to put it. If baseball really has a problem with times of games they can cut down on some of the stuff - taking forever to step in the box or the mound, trips to the mound, etc...but even after those things the games will still be long because both teams have a ton of patient hitters. No matter who the Yankees play they take forever because of this.

There are already rules for stepping out and in between pitches, but rarely is that enforced. If the umps started calling the closer high pitches as strikes (expand the K zone) that would cause a faster game as well.

Zero hitting with RISP. I mean 2-14 on Saturday and I think it was 1-8 today. Its an alarming stat. The average thus far with RISP is .208. I understand its very very early in the season but when you have faced pitchers the likes of Nate Robertson, Garrett Mock, John Lannan, and Livan Hernandez and your not hitting its pathetic. I know the lineup isn't all there right now, but still the lineup that's getting run out there should be able to hit against pitchers of this caliber. I mean those pitchers are all 5th starters. I mean I'm a Lannan fan, but he's a pitcher that should be hit hard.
I agree with ya Vito, the guillotine should be getting raised already. I mean the black cloud is already coming in. A quick start would have held off the media from questioning the fates of Omar and Jerry, but tomorrow I expect ESPN Radio and The FAN to be all over the Mets, as they should be.
Who am I to say they can go out and beat the likes of the Rox and Cards, but right now it doesn't look promising at all.

The thing is...even if Manuel is canned I think the only guy who could make a difference in his spot is Bobby Valentine. Bobby V keeps his teams fired up and always seemed to get the most out of his players. The fans would probably be genuinely excited seeing Valentine in the dugout again.
Problem is, I highly doubt he gets brought on in mid-season. That role seems to already be reserved for Bob Melvin, who is already in the organization. I really don't like the idea of Bob Melvin being more than a temporary skipper, so I hope the '10 Mets won't pull an '08 Mets and play well under the new guy to keep him around.
Then there's Omar, who also has to go if this season doesn't work out. Replace him with Wayne Krivsky (already in the organization) or make a call to bring in Kevin Towers (who I'm sure has an out in his contract if he can get a GM job). Bobby V with Krivsky or Towers is what I'd like to see asap.
I hope just once this year we see a lineup of Reyes-Castillo-Wright-Bay-Beltran-Francoeur-Davis-Barajas...even if it's in September.

Didn't see his first time up but when they were giving out the rings he got a pretty huge ovation. They announced him last to go get his ring and after he did the whole Yankees team ran up to him and shook his hand/hugged him and all that stuff.
Apparently they gave Matsui an old rusted ring at first though as a joke. Girardi ran up after and gave him the real one. Think they did the same thing with Swisher.

Yea but other than the clowns who give the home fans a hard time, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with fans of other teams going to other parks.
In most cases it's probably just fans who want to see that park, and happen to be a fan of other teams. Or they're fans who can't get tickets to home games. It's so hard to get multiple tickets to Red Sox games, that a lot of families go for trips to Camden because it's close and cheap.
Like some husband and wife and their 3 kids can't go to a Red Sox game at Fenway because it would be mad expensive and it's impossible to get that many seats together. These people are harmless.
Sometimes they're probably just fans of baseball in general. That's me really. I'm a Red Sox fan, who is going to other parks to see Red Sox and non-Red Sox games this summer.
I don't wear "gear" though, so nobody would probably even know. I don't even wear it when I go to Fenway. I'd also be nothing but friendly to fans of other teams. I'd probably be more interested in learning what they are like than rubbing it in their face.

Was at Opening Day at Target Field on Monday. Beautiful place with tons of character for a new ballpark. It's built right into the city in a small block, so much more urban than the new stadiums in Milwaukee and such. And as it is built into such a small space, the stadium is much more vertical than most I've been to. The upper deck in right field felt like it was a similar view to if I was sitting on the Green Monster.
So far though, the Twins have looked hot. Legitimately probably top three or four lineups in the league (I'd argue better than Boston, maybe Anaheim), but just have some issues to resolve in terms of pitching, both starting (finding an ace) and relief (finding consistency). Going to be a fun season though.

Jays early season surprise. Not really. I told you they got good pitching depth. 'no names', yes but they are deeper than people think. Still don't see them going anywhere this year, but they'll do better than most people predict.

The Orioles (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/team/baltimore-orioles/71587), losers of nine of their first 10 games, could use a little help.
Yet, owner Peter Angelos recently declined to hire the franchise’s biggest legend, Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., in a baseball capacity, according to multiple major-league sources. Ripken met with Andy MacPhail, the team’s president of baseball operations, about rejoining the organization, sources said.
Angelos, however, nixed the idea in a separate conversation with Ripken, telling him, according to three sources, that he did not want Ripken to receive credit once the team returned to prominence.fuck angelos right up his ass with a pitchfork. I hope he hurries up and dies so someone else who actually cares about baseball has a chance to salvage the Orioles organization before its put into complete ruin beyond repair.

lol are you kidding me. Just flipped over to Baseball Tonight during the commercial break (haven't watched BBTN in awhile, MLB Network is far better) and apparently for Web Gems every day they now rank the top play from each day from 1-10 on the "Buehrle Meter". Basically they've already christened the Buehrle play as play of the year and have decided that every top play this year will be weighed up against it.

Kind of odd to have a rain delay in the bottom of the 9th for TB-Boston game when the top of the 9th was just as bad weather-wise and tomorrow's forecast is even worse than tonight which makes a double-header not really possible.
Best thing about NESN is when Peter Gammons retired from ESPN, he just moved to NESN since Boston Globe provides the writers and analysts for NESN baseball.

PHILADELPHIA -- A New Jersey man is facing charges after police say he intentionally vomited on an 11-year-old girl and her father in the stands during a Philadelphia Phillies game.
Matthew Clemmens, 21, of Cherry Hill, N.J., was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and related offenses for the incident at Wednesday night's Phillies-Nationals game. He was being held Friday on $36,000 bail.
Police say Clemmens made himself vomit on an off-duty police captain and one of his daughters after Clemmens' companion was kicked out of Citizens Bank Park for unruly behavior, which included cursing, spitting and spilling beer by Clemmens and a friend.

I must really love torture to continue watching the Orioles now that they're 1-10 and on an 8 game losing streak. I really dont remember the 88 orioles and their 0-21 start but if it was anything like this I can't imagine..
Good news is today FOX fucked them over by refusing to televise the game and the A's are culpable as well for not moving the game out of FOX's protected timeslot, so theres no TV coverage of the game today. The Os will probably win just because no one can see it.

Yeup made a mistake. I end up confusing a perfect game with a no hitter a lot and didn't help I was googling a list of no-hitters/perfect games while ESPN had him on the inning updates.
Still, he pitched 1st ever no hitter in history of the Rockies.
The Red Sox offense is just anemic. Something like 1 run scored in the last 25 innings.
