I'm playing Control. I dunno what it's like on console but on PC it allows you to launch the standard version or a version with DX12 enabled. I chose DX12 even if it is a bit janky still and HOLY SHIT. I can say 100% without any doubt that this is the first truly next-gen game to release. I have never seen graphics anywhere close to this in anything before but it's a damn resource hog as such. I cant turn on the ray tracing but to think the full experience is better than what I'm already seeing is unreal.
It also helps that it is a really awesome and totally creepy af game. It's as if you are playing something like Stranger Things/Fringe/X-Files. Also very similar to the game Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice in terms of some of the narrative devices. It's not an outright scary game....but it's seriously unnerving at points. It's the kind of horror that wants to mess with your head and leave you feeling like you're always being watched.

Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night.
Amazing game, its pretty much a castlevania clone in the vein of the DS games, but it's incredibly fun. I love those kinds of games, too bad Konami practically gave up on making games and the 3D castlevanias have all sucked.

Went through God of War, thought it was pretty good. The story is better than the gameplay though to me personally, when it camr to the end game challenges a lot of the enemies just felt unfair with their bullshit (The burrowing dog things that never surface when you're on a time limit, the perma dodging witches, the Valkyries, that fucking Dark Elf Pricklord). I like the new Kratos, he still a dick but at least hes not completely unlikeable now.
Put a few hours in to Dragon Quest XI, just got my 3rd and 4th party members. Feels very old school, the menus are so basic and unpolished that it's as if it's a SNES game. I heard murmers about it being too easy so I added the Draconic Quest to make the enemies harder and it's pretty tough so far, wiped a few times before I got a full party and then again at the latest boss. Combat is pretty fun though and the monster designs are great, i'm liking it. The beginning really reminds me of Ni No Kuni 2 (Evil King, escaping through the sewers, overtly Japanese town) but I get the feeling this is the better game. I guess they're both just going hard on the tropes.

Playing Ion Maiden (It was renamed Ion Fury because of some dumb controversy), it's an extremely fun old school shooter that runs on the build engine (Same as Duke 3d, Shadow Warrior, Blood). So refreshing to play this. Modern FPS games can take their graphics and "storylines" and shove them. I'd be content with FPS games just using the build engine for the rest of time.

Welp, after years of faithful service, my second 1st gen DS has bit the dust (my first one was one of the launch ones; my second was a refurb). No more Advance Wars Dual Strike for me for awhile. :'(
If they would release them on the Switch (yes, I'm aware of Wargroove), I'd happily buy them all again and rock an updated system. Instead, I will have to purchase a third DS from some shady backalley eBay merchant and hope it is up to par, after other obligations are fulfilled.

Heard all about DQ11 being too easy, but I ran into a very solid wall in hard mode.
A lot of bosses wiped me without any prep but they were manageable. Slayer of the Sands? That was rough but keep him dazzled and he will fall. Arachtagon? Had to level grind and set up Sylv's multi heal but he's a fair fight. Tentacular? Another grind and mastering all the gear I could do survive long enough to dazzle again.
But then...
FUCK DORA IN GREY.
Absolutely unfair. Her moveset 100% chance Beguilement, a high chance ability seal, 3 moves per turn, high agility, non elemental magic AoE (un-mitigatable), high damage single target physical, HP drain and also 100% critical physical attack. She can pep up. You need to stack all of your accessories to resist Beguile (which got me around 40% resist each because mastering them at the forge is not easy) and hope she doesn't get any procs off on the first turn. Also you need to hope she doesn't kill any of your team on the first turn and since she usually acts before you there's a good chance you've lost before you even get to make a move. Took me like ten tries, eventually managed it with Gublet (err… Hero? Luminary?) / Jade / Serena all pepped up going in, do the defence / attack buff Ult and then use Serena to use status immunity on everyone, starting with herself then Sylv, because he needs to acceleratle & multi heal pretty much constantly and until you get your 4th person buffed there's a good chance she will lock their abilities and mess up your run. Then hope a decelerate lands on her before she peps up and has the chance to do 6 actions in a row. Even after that it's still tough because you need to be dealing damage to prevent her HP drain healing her all the way back up, while managing Sylv and Serena's MP because if those run out you're fucked. So much RNG bullshit. That has been the only time so far I've considered turning hard mode off.
I've fought bosses since and beat them on the first attempt and I've been assured nothing comes close to being that hard again. So that's good. I'm heading for an important location at 50hrs and level 33, I think there's probably some way to go yet.
Also, Jade best girl.

Finally went through Undertale and I have to get this out of the way: Undertale is incredibly overrated.
I mean I liked it, it's pretty great and a unique game and has an almost perfect cast (Looking at you Alphys) but as a video game or even a piece of media the story isn't strong enough and it's surprisingly short. It's a good little game, I'd even say very good if Sans wasn't so ridiculously OP that I can barely last six turns against him and have given up on Genocide, but that's all it is. Kinda disappointed I didn't like it more.
Accidentally killing Toriel on my first run, because I didnt realise you should never use Attack, was pretty upsetting though. Felt bad about that. Probably worse than I did about killing everyone on the Genocide run. Being a dick to Papyrus was not cool either.
Also Sans is overrated. Wouldn't even break my top 5 Undertale characters. I'm not sorry.

Methinks you're thinking of "The Wily Wars" Genesis port.
Mega Man 9 was full-on retro, NES era graphics and sound. Even the game placard in the marketplace was (on purpose) done by the same artist who made the undeniably fugly US cover art for Mega Man 1. Mega Man 10, on the other hand, was just punishingly hard for no fucking reason and ventured into cheap bullshit deaths quite a bit.

Prob'ly, but it doesn't matter. I ended up getting Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on XBONE, which is basically everything from 1 through 10. (1-6 is 1, 7-10 is 2) 7 and 8 seem a bit weird because of the shift in graphics and a little of the gameplay tweaks: they feel more like playing the X series than using the Blue Bomber proper. I quite like the Indiana Jones point and clicks they made too, LucasArts had the market cornered there, I think they also made the Discworld games which I may download later.
Broken Sword games were cool too but I dunno who made them, they seemed a bit more serious and artistic.
I'm probably preaching to the choir here but give gamesnostalgia.com a go if you're ever bored and curious. It's full of classic games of all types, not just point and clicks. Most downloads are hilariously small.

Oy vey. This was a mess. No wonder why the team is working around the clock to fix it. Jon Bernthal must have high tailed it to the nearest bank as soon as he got that check from Ubisoft. How'd they went from that hidden gem that was Wildlands to this is beyond me.
But I will say this. In terms of creating a beautiful open world sandbox, Ubisoft got the best people in the business. But in terms of telling a story, they can probably find some better people.

Only really got it is because it was dirt cheap on PS Store. I've still got Sequences VIII and IX plus the WW1 sequence in the main game (I know WW1 unlocks before the end of the main story but I'm trying to play in chronological order), and the Jack the Ripper DLC to get through.
I'd say I've had slightly more fun with it than I did Unity. Once I'm done, I may decide to cross Rogue (the remaster) off the list as I never got around to that one either.

Tried it again and just played as normal and wrecked Vegeta as I have everyone else.

Fall Out New Vegas is possibly my favourite game of all time. I spent a good 250 hours playing out scenarios with that thing. Fucking brilliant. The glitches are numerous, so patch that shit up.
I just completed Battlefield 3 after buying it years ago just before my PS3 died. I only ever played online but the campaign was frantic and hard as hell. I might have to dig out COD Modern Warfare 3 and try that campaign.
I still have Assassins Creed and Assassins Creed Revelations to play plus a whole bunch of games my buddy gave me before he left town.
Deus Ex Human Revolution is one of them but I tried it and the hacking in it is an awful pain in the arse. I did like the difficulty level when doing combat missions though, that was cool.
They did patch a lot of the most major issues after FNV released (i.e. Doc Mitchell's head rotating around like a Mickey Mouse watch, etc.), but if you're hoping for a new round of patches on a game that's not only last-gen but also nearly a decade old since the vanilla release and nearly 8 years old since the Ultimate Edition (think GotY - it included all the DLC, including Gun Runners' Arsenal) released, then yeah, no, unfortunately that's never happening. But it was too easy and it never got harder unfortunately. Battles have a typical letter grading system, S rank being the best then going to the typical A-whatever scale as you go lower. I don't know that it's possible to get worse than an A though. I never did, and even they were few and far between as I easily S ranked 98% of the battles. I was working through Rogue remaster but then along comes the fucking part where you have to sink Adéwalé's ship before you can kill him. It's essentially a 2-on-1 handicap tornado match with ships. My Morrigan is quite weak compared to his ship. Kept losing badly to him because I apparently haven't done enough to upgrade it, but that requires huge amounts of material and £ and I don't have the motivation to scavenge supply camps and abandoned shipwrecks to upgrade it to the point where I could take him down, so it's most likely getting deleted soon.

The real main story line pay offs are actually v hard to get and are dependent on about 4 or 5 very key choices you make throughout the game and you are not warned of the relevance or significance of those choices when you make them.
The Atlantis content ending is the big pay off anyways and is basically the real ending. Unlike the other big DLC, the Atlantis stuff is a direct continuation of the mainline. The content also adds in a few new gameplay wrinkles that make it awesome af, particularly a couple of the craftable legendary weapons.

Also a lot of the main ending of Odyssey was tied to sidequests and other random things, so if you had a lot of outstanding quests and events then you likely missed out on a number of scenes that would have fleshed it out.

I remember the day I (like maybe level 50 at the time) was walking around a forest in the little area just to the west of Macedonia and saw the symbol for a merc in the area. I wasn't wanted, so they weren't looking for me, so I decided to sneak up on them and see if they were a higher or lower rank one and if they were worth bothering with. Got up on the guy and holy shit it was the level 99 guy at the top of the totem pole just off on a walk in the woods lol. I tried to do a full power sneak attack on him and barely dented him lmao. He was not impressed.
I did end up abusing the whole sneak attack and run away method for like 20 minutes though until I ended up beating him....only got moved up one rank still :/

I'm up to the ending "on rails" section of ffxv and I've been playing DLC where it fits into the story.
Episode Gladio kind of sucks, worst version of Gilgamesh ever. Hes not even Gilgamesh other than in name. Gladio's sudden cup noodle fetish is also glossed over, dude eats 5 in one day and then next time he sees one he jizzes his pants.
Episode Ignis is actually great. Ignis is the best character in the game by far and this DLC not only fleshes him out and gives him a hook shot but actually gives Ravus a personality, backstory and motivation. Why they never did that in the actual game is mind boggling.
Not done Prompto's yet but from the other DLC credits I discovered he is actually Goro Akechi and now I dont trust him.

I'm about to do Episode Ardyn, and kill the toise then I think I'm done with FFXV. I've definitely not tackled some of the content (those post game doors in dungeons) but I felt the same about post game last time. I did Pitioss or whatever it was called, but other than that it's just not much fun. Combat is such a downer, even now the game has caught up with my level I don't feel very involved in it.
Some thoughts on the royal edition additions (Going to spoiler tag just in case theres somebody out there on TPWW who cares about FFXV and hasn't played it yet. Of all things):
This is some content that SHOULD have been there from the beginning. The story is so bare bones that leaving huge unexplained gaps was absolute bullshit, even more so that Gladio's absence is completely shoehorned in and uneventful. The Prompto DLC and especially the Ignis DLC are REQUIRED. The sudden "Oh Ignis is blind now btw" and "Oh yeah Promto is actually a cloned murder robot" reveals of the vanilla game are absolutely ludicrous. Ravus is an actual character in the DLC. What the fuck was he in the main game. Dude shows up, owns Gladio and then just dies offscreen. Gladio why do you love cup noodles so much? You eat like 10 in a row and probably throw up from it because you're fighting off reanimated corpses and lugging around pillars you stupid dickhead. You should hate cup noodles by association!
I'm not fighting Omega Weapon, I tried him and I was doing like 9 damage a hit. He has a giant health bar. No thanks.
The absolute best thing about royal edition is they improved the ending sequence, Insomia being an actual dungeon with a boss really ramps it up. You also get to fight the founder kings after Ifrit and each of the bros get their little turn to be a badass. Makes a huge difference to everyone just immediately being KOd and Ardyn saying "lol don't need them for the final boss". It gives the ending a bit more of an emotional punch but Noctis remains incredibly under developed so it's hard to shed a tear for the guy and I do love crying at the end of video games.
I have no doubt Persona 5 Royal Edition is going to be a much more thrilling ride, but for now I have to decide which ones of my 1004 backlogged games to start on next...

Started Tokyo Xanadu Ex+, which I picked up cheap like a year ago because people were saying it's like Persona. In some ways it is. There's a Rise and a Chie expy already. There's kind of social links I guess. Hidden world only visible to "awoken" people. All the usual stuff. Combat is hack and slash action though and seems kinda bad. Also the main character kind of floats when he runs and it's hilarious. Obviously nowhere near as good as Persona but it's alright I guess.

The leveling system, while deep, has a design flaw that adds tedium through backtracking that should just be a menu screen. Weeby to the point it will turn many off.
All that said im the niche this was made for. Even the flaws didnt phase me. The various systems the game offered me were very addicting. Constant progression and you really feel the growth as you level through the multiple advancement mechanisms.

Been feeling a huge diablo shaped void in my soul lately, so I decided to give Wolcen a try. Oof. So much potential, so little execution. The gameplay has all the right hooks and is fun....but the game is just too broken. For instance, gold is a fairly precious commodity and you don't get tons of it like you do in Diablo. And Endgame stuff costs a good bit of it, meaning get ready to grind...I played to the end game and had maybe 200k gold saved up, nowhere near enough for the stuff I had to pay for now. Then I found out I can just multiply item values by stacking/unstacking things. Made 661 million gold in about a minute.
You can clone your characters, dump the inventory of the clones into the shared stash, and boom, dupes.
Tons of nodes on the skill tree don't even work. They do nothing. Ended up making only 1 build truly viable for high level end game stuff. And the only reason that build worked is because all the nodes worked, but the developers apparently didn't think people would pick these nodes or something because they make you OP af, like broken levels of OP. So instead of fixing other nodes so maybe other builds could work.....they nerfed the good build to bring it in line with the broken ones lmao.
Oh and my character randomly started moonwalking uncontrollably until he was surrounded by clones of himself either praying or dancing in honor of him and then he flopped through the geometry and into the abyss.
It's a really beautiful game, and the gameplay is awesome when it works right, but they really needed to have about 6 months of testing/fixing the full version before they released it.

Apparently a lot has changed. Camera is still a little close but much better than it was and the graphics engine has been completely overhauled. The game is waaaay better looking and performs way better than I remember.

This brings me to the following: I am finally playing Path of Exile. I had tried it before, but the camera felt too zoomed into me and was annoying back in the day and I just didn't like the feel of it.
Apparently a lot has changed. Camera is still a little close but much better than it was and the graphics engine has been completely overhauled. The game is waaaay better looking and performs way better than I remember.
And jesus I have never seen so much content in a game like this. It's beyond overwhelming.
Very very glad I decided to cave in and give it another chance. Diablo itch scratched.
I still can't. In a problem similar problem with ESO and Neverwinter, all of the goddamn text is too small with no way to adjust it. My TV is across the living room. I'm not sitting right up on a monitor like a PC gamer. This is a basic menu thing missing that devs are taking for granted.
I cycled back to State of Decay 2 in time for their big update. Digging the new map, and to a point, the heavy weapons (seemed to be rolling powerhouse all the time on characters when it was pretty worthless, now that it is essential for better use of the heavies, I only got ONE person to roll it). They're more useful if you have help, though. And I mean actual person co-op help, since they have a huge stamina drain, and it's easy to get overwhelmed if you're solo and trying to use a hogsplitter.

Playing the Trials of Mana demo while waiting for FF7. So much better than the Secret of Mana remake from last year. They really stepped their game up with this one. I'm honestly just super hyped to finally get a western release of Seiken Densetsu 3 in general as it was one of the top 5 games on SNES for me, even with the shitty fan translations I had to work with to emulate it 2 decades ago.
Demo is actually extremely large, allowing for the full selection of your 3 person party from the 6 available characters and as such has all their origin stories included. I picked my party and have been playing for hours and just picked up the second character of the 3 Ill have. Im in the 3rd town technically, but currently doing the origin story for the second character as it gives you the option to play through theirs as well as your mains.
Best part is that all progress will transition into the full game, so won't have to play through hours of content again in a couple weeks. Highly recommend giving it a shot if you like old school RPGs, particularly ones with an action based combat system.

Gonna violate tf out of the Georgia and South Carolina stay at home orders to go get that baby. I give zero shits about it in this case because FF7 is essential.
tbf I will never have to get out of my car because they are doing curbside pick up so I'll be socially distanced the entire time.

Playing Ori and the Blind Forest. I recently got stuck on on spot that I simply didnt know how to get past. It felt like Ninja Turtles on Nintendo. Finally after about an hour and 60 attempts, I realized that i just needed to drop the heavy glowing rock and climb a totem wall.

Glad you're enjoying it. As for me, well, this is clearly what the game should've been. It's a day late and way too many dollars short. I'm never touching 76, but I still hope Bethesda can renew goodwill with Starfield in the next generation, but if it proves to be trash, too, forget about TES VI or anything else because I guarantee it will be Bye-bye, Bethesda.

I was hyped for 76 myself. Then it bombed badly on release. They may have fixed it now but I could care less. The product should have been done right originally instead of making people pay full price to basically be beta testers for a year and a half. I'm not rewarding them with a purchase for that bullshit.
I went through this before with No Mans Sky.
Maybe if I had faith left in Bethesda I'd give it a go, but after the way they abandoned me and everyone else who bought Skyrim on PS3, they can fuck right off.

Nah, wouldn't bother with WWE.
Just coming from the perspective as a fan of the series. I paid full price at launch, played to about level 20 and said "fuck it".
it was hot garbage, burning even. Uninstalled it before the end of the year was up and never looked back. Despite the massive bugs that have hit it, I never experienced any of them.
Definitely nothing in it for me if you play it or not dude. Just saying from a fan of the series to another, its definitely where it should have been at launch.

Just finished the story for Trials of Mana. On to the post game content they added in that wasn't in the original.
The Trials of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3 originally, never came to the west) remake is infinitely better than the Secret of Mana remake. They did way better in every single aspect, from the translation to the graphics/sound and especially the gameplay. And they fixed the biggest problem of all from SoM....they actually made it challenging. SoM remake is one of the easiest games I have ever played....this one was easy at first then suddenly it shifted and dodges/timing/pattern recognition became super important. The only thing that isn't tuned well is a spell called ancient curse. Its far too overpowered although it has a ridiculous cast time/mana cost. But if you manage to target it properly and fire it off before getting interrupted it will annihilate every enemy in a regular mob in one move. I actually ignored 2 of my party members and just spammed it with my 3rd and killed the last boss of the campaign in like 45 seconds after it handed my ass to me multiple times in a row trying to fight it straight up.
This new content seems like it might be pretty damn hard tho tbh. The first/easiest mobs at the beginning of the new super dungeon can wipe your whole party in seconds if you get complacent. Gonna try and grind it out tomorrow and see how far I can get but I already know its gonna be a blast. This is a great ARPG to scratch that old nostalgia itch.
