I dont have a huge issue with the controls on PS3 version. The 3rd person aim is kind of like Mass Effect. The grappling hook can be weird sometimes. Still fun though.

Stunt jump is stupid too. It's basically just a jump.

So i wont be playing Mario All-Stars i suppose. Whatever this email means.

Due to limited quantities, we will be unable to fulfill your Mario Joy Con skins pre-order bonus for Order Number 144124496. But don't worry, your pre-order of Super Mario 3D All-Stars has not been canceled and will be fulfilled as expected.

My knowledge is that i cant play one of these games on Switch Lite so... I dont even know anymore. This entire thing seems thrown together with no thought. It's like Nintendo didnt know its the Mario 35th anniversery. Not that the are obligated, but if there were ever a year, this is the one. No E3, you failed to put out a first party other than Mario Paper and what.. Hyrule Warriors? Nintendo has to offer more to this Switch. So many Switches are being sold and Nintendo has not been able to do much than port old games. That's bad. And they are bungling this Mario 3D All-Stars.

Are the controls for Tony Hawk 1 + 2 any better?

I should prob'ly explain the question more clearly... by convoluting it up!

The original THPS was a groundbreaking game, but with the "benefit" of hindsight, the controls AND collision detection have aged like fine dogshit. I tried to go back and play the original on Playstation, and I was legit astonished as to how I was ever good at it. I remember relentlessly trying to single string combo The Mall from starting hallway to the finish line back in the day (and getting close, but I would always fuck up somewhere in the middle and hit the ground) and getting insane scores at Area 51... but when I fired it up years later, I barely could get past the school. Each subsequent game in the series got more polished in controls being less clunky and more responsive. 3 and 4 are considerably easier to go back and play, but aren't as fondly remembered.

Then, they had that "remaster" like, what, seven years or so ago? And they said they intentionally kept the controls as terrible as possible [paraphrasing in my own words], for the original integrity or somesuch. It somehow felt worse trying to play that version than booting up a PSX and using the original hardware. There were also songs missing.

Did they tighten up the controls and include the ENTIRE soundtrack(s) this time?

screech
09-16-2020, 08:12 AM
This is much better than the HD remake that came out on PS3/360. The songs are still censored, but I think they're all there (also added a bunch from I guess other games in the series).

Watched a video that explained how grinding the same straight rail multiple times actually penalizes you, balance-wise. Same with doing a manual three times in a row without a grind or something in between.

I don't know if that answers your question at all, but I found it very helpful.

And you don't have to fully complete the game with everyone. Each skater has a set of challenges to do, which is much better.

Honestly it just didn't feel like a MGS game to me. The barren openish world for one and the story was just...different. Not as "outlandish" as the other games, in a way. Didn't have the same impact. I prefer 4 tbh, that was a masterpiece imo.

On to Yakuza 3 Remastered. Kinda jarring going from the new engine on Kiwami 2 back to a remastered ps3 game, but it's not as terrible as I had feared. 3 is apparently the worst of the series as well but thankfully it's also the shortest. I hear the remasters of 4 and especially 5 are way better in terms of quality though.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

Game came in the mail yesterday and its been pretty enjoyable based on the time I've spent with it so far.

It has its fair share of issues and the overall quality of work reflects a lot in its budget price.

Laughed at the very first match in campaign mode being against Baron Corbin since that is such a WWE move to do with a hyped up new guy or big storyline.

Not far enough into it to make a judgement on the story though and I've only got access to minimal skills so I can't fairly judge what the battle system becomes but it is fun so far. Alot of strategy comes into play with crosscodes battles further in. Lots of juggling elementals and ranged/melee in order to target enemies weaknesses. Some of the bosses require a lot of rapid switching. Have to use environmental objects a bit too. I really like it.

Also it has a lot of puzzles and they can be quite fun. Some of them are challenging af too and require you to think outside the box.

When you get a little ways into it and the story becomes a bit clearer its like ooooh shit this is not what I was expecting. In a good way.

sigh

this game is so cool and tells a really interesting story, but i was so disinvested from it because of how truly horrid the actual gameplay is, just hours of wandering through hallways and into the wrong rooms, not being able to read the map properly, game-breakingly bad clunky combat where the hit detection is practically random, i just wanted the game to be over. i was only really motivated to keep playing because of how my friend and i were gonna play it together years ago and that saga. i got to a point six hours in where i saved before a boss with low health, and was softlocked out of going into any other part of the map that had healing items. I spent over an hour save stating my way through the bossfight... a true shame because this game could have been so good. bad game, but deserves a remake

Been a while since I played both games but had more fun playing the first No More Heroes game than the second one.

Both games were very entertaining on their own with the second game benefiting a lot from cleaner graphics and a lot less padding because the jobs system no longer acted as a constant gate for progress. The second one does have issues when it comes to the platforming sections due to its janky controls.

In terms of boss fights, found them to be more enjoyable and memorable with the first game.

Jumping back into Destiny again for the new expansion.

Now that the new consoles are out, I'm going to go ahead and say Destiny 2 is the best shooter of this last generation. It stumbled at times, but that had everything to do with it's status as a live service and how they handled that early on. Gameplay wise, I can't think of anything else that had gunplay that felt this good, combined with so many guns. And then there is the incredible art design. The weapons, armor, enemies, and worlds are all fantastic.

Not a game per se, but I'm about to connect and try out Stadia.

Google is literally giving these things away now. I got mine from a promo I saw last week for being a YouTube Premium subscriber (I never canceled because I really like not having fucking commercials, especially now with the recent widely unwanted midroll advert addition where creators who opted out still get commercials mid vid unless they manually change each individual upload). Now, there's a promo for buying Cyberpunk 2077 and getting this thing.

Saw a FB post where a guy sarcastically stated that he'd get one "when they give them away in cereal boxes". I remarked that they prob'ly just gave Google's marketing team an idea. So, expect it in the Christmas edition of Booty-Os.

*addendum: I had no interest in buying one... however, free is free. Shipping and all.

I'm dreading that the future M.O. for gaming in this new generation is making you play New Game+ just to get that last trophy/points for 100%. It's just a waste of time unless you know you need to play the game again for other reasons such as different style of gameplay, outcome, etc.

Tom Guycott

This time next year it'll be dead. Google will drop it.

Probably. It *is* Google. They lose interest in things faster than Vince McMahon loses intrests in his own stupid gimmick characters.

I will say that if I didn't already have a FireTV that I bought years ago, or if I had need of another TV, the Chromecast Ultra would likely get copious use. But, as it stands, the three HDMI slots on my TV are already filled, and having this on rotation/as a replacement for something else there is not likely to happen on the regular.

From the stuff I was able to play (I'm guessing the PRO "claimed" thing is like the XBL Games With Gold), I tried a quick round of Bomberman R, a couple rounds of Dead By Daylight (which says it's connecting via crossplay, but there isn't really any way to deliniate where the crossplayers are coming from), and started the opening of Destiny 2 - which, unbeknownst to me, if you start a brand new game from scratch, the opening starts, well, at the beginning. I always figured it was like going from Division 1 to Division 2, but nope.

The controller's actually fairly nice, but I've been having trouble with the "screenshot" button, as it is right there by the menu button. I'm trying to pause and change my settings or something and instead, I take a pic. Another issue is some the interfaces. For example: ingame button tutorials not always easy to read, such as not being able to tell if the game wants you to push the (***) button, or L1/R1 or the thumbsticks... the prompts kinda all look alike and aren't distinct or color coded like on XB or PS. Hopefully, though, I can use this thing on Steam, so if Googs decide to tank this project, I can get some use out of it.

I say I got "my money's worth" out of it so far. Again, especially since I paid nothing.

Godfall. Said I was gonna wait for the discount bin but I got it 25 bucks off so meh, snagged it. Very pretty. But you can tell they focused on making this a tech showpeice. Fast loads, super detailed textures and lighting effects, character models with more polygons than you've ever seen. But it's shallow and repetitive. Dont get me wrong, the gameplay is actually rather good once you acclimate to how to stay focused on enemies without getting turned around or off target. Gotta lot of different systems running and different ways to kill enemies that make it engaging. But the core loop is run through this area, look around and loot stuff if you want, do objective, back to base. And theres 2 ppl at your base and they are the only people you interact with ever. The story is almost nonexistent. And while the areas are pretty you can only run around the same confusing level doing different missions but killing the same enemies and picking up the same treasures so many times, especially when you consider there is no map. I imagine I am somewhere around half way through the game at this point and honestly it would be great if they would give me a better reason for doing what I'm doing in game and add a couple more environments or something. And a map. As it is its just so so.

Another thing is if they just decide what they want this game to be and go with it. What I mean is that this game is ALMOST dark souls. It's just not quite hard enough and there is no penalty for death. But it's close to being there, real close. They either need to decide if this is a typical looter and maybe make it a smidge easier and increase enemy density or they need to increase the difficulty just a little and give it a death penalty and go forth as a soulsborne game. It's just stuck between two competing identities right now.

100%/platinumed Assassins' Creed: Valhalla

The more I played, the more I hated it. Just when I thought Odyssey put the series back on track, Valhalla takes it off the rails again. Definitely goes in the lower tier of all time A.C. games.

Probably going to step away from it until they either do the Japan setting with ninjas and samurai we're all dreaming of or the final game of the series. Now I just want it to end.

Installing Cyberpunk tonight.

They need to make an Assassin's Creed game set in prehistoric times.
No, not cavemen.
Nope, not dinosaurs.
The primordial soup era. You could play as a chunk of DNA trying to get away from rogue proteins to form the first ever genome. Would be pretty dope.

What were u playing Valhalla on Dave? I basically 100% it other than a few of the random trophies (couple combat ones and the fishing and dice ones). Only ran into like 3 bugs; random npc animation bugged out for a couple seconds, got launched when climbing in some weird geometry and fell through the map once also climbing in a weird place. Other than that it was smooth af for me.

Really liked the story of Valhalla, especially the stuff close to the end. You guys are really missing out on one of the biggest twists in the series that def leaves an interesting cliff hanger for the next installment.

But...yea the game def took a step back from odyssey and origins IMO. This is the first entry to me that really just didnt fit for me. It could just be called Valhalla with no ties to AC and it would be fine. But yea this one just sidnt feel assassiny to me. Still like it on its own though.

Would Prob make it a bit harder though considering how much this one leans on in your face brutality and how strong you get fairly quickly. I literally beat the strongest enemy in the game (level 400 legendary bear in ine of the areas you go to on the seer quests) when I was level 126 or so. There were a couple other really tough enemies (the highest level witch and a couple zealots who were around Lvl 340) that were harder IMO because of their skillsets but I took them all down by the time I was around level 200. This combat system seemed at first to require more skill than previous games, especially without the insane combo kills you could rack up before, but the timing is way more forgiving and is easy to master. I hardly ever parried, would just perfect dodge and maul people with dual greatswords that speed up the more I attack. All those skills and the leap attack is the only one you really need. I never used another although a couple of them are similarly Op. Blah ranting.

For what its worth, Immortals Fenyx rising is also a good game that becomes too easy once you get good at it. If you guys try it I suggest turning up the difficulty. Fun game though. Really like the puzzle design and there are ways to brute force your way around some challenges that require certain skills; you just have to understand the mechanics and think a bit outside the box. Some of them really had me feeling proud when I got around them.

Picked up Valhalla and fucking LOVE it so far. Very much at the beginning of the game, going to meet the sons of Ragnar Loethbrook.

Ivarr is crazy as fuck, just like the historical texts say. The "meta" story so far is strange, but I think I am slowly understanding what is going to happen.... I've heard it's a big "swerve" compared to the other AC games.

Will probably get the DLC for this one.

Also, big bonus coming from work on my next check. May be updating to the XSX which I am VERY excited for :D
