If its Jets vs Packers, ESPN guaranteed to get Farve as an analyst for his take since he played majority of his career at Green Bay and his one year with the Jets (and the mess afterwards) is enough for them to believe he's an expert of the team.

Bears would match better with Steelers in terms of "toughness" perception with defense since both have pretty hard hitting defenses.

Especially since he's been on the IR for the entire season. Not making it easy for his teammates going into a tough match-up at Solider Field.

I'm clearly biased, I am a Bears fan. I clearly think the Bears will win and its because you mentioned Soldier Field. No one wants to play on our home field. Everyone complains about the ground there, even the Bears players. So hopefully now by playing a few games in crummy conditions, this will work to the Bears advantage, and sacking Aaron Rodgers on the cold ground concussing him wouldn't hurt either. The Bears were only 5-3 at home, BUT they did edge the Pack at Soldier in September.

I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT FOR THIS GAME

Of the final 4 teams, 3 of them have been featured predominately in the NFL as "big" teams/public teams, and the Jets have come on in the last couple years. NFL will win with the ratings no matter the combination.

If the Bears don't like it either, I don't see why that particular factor gives them an advantage. And don't forget, Cutler was prone to get taken down pretty hard last time they matched up- he could just as easily get taken out. I expect Capers to blitz aggressively, early, and often, so this has to be something the Bears are mindful of.

NFL players' union files collusion claim
(AP) – 1 hour ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — The NFL players' union confirms it has filed a collusion claim against the league's owners.
The case has been filed with the same special master who is considering the union's complaint about the league's TV contracts.
In December, the league and the players' union agreed to extend the deadline to file a collusion claim.
Union spokesman George Atallah says Tuesday he can't comment on details of the collusion claim.
NFL owners and players are trying to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement to replace the one that expires in March.
Two weeks ago, special master Stephen Burbank began hearing complaints from the players' union that the NFL improperly re-negotiated network TV contracts. A ruling is expected this month.

The Packers and Steelers are really popular. So I think the NFL gets a good outcome no matter what.

you cant look at just the fanbase... The markets are gigantic. Casual fans who dont really care will tune in to watch the the game because everyone they know will be watching it because its in their city and your talking about the two biggest citys with teams in the country.

The national image of a team is more important than the size of the home market when it comes to ratings. Steelers - Packers is definitely the money maker.

Saints\Colts was the highest rated tv event of all time and those are both tiny markets..

NFL and ESPN did hype the game a lot about being a huge rebound for New Orleans from Katrina and the Mannings somehow having a huge influence in the area even though only the father played for the Saints. It became one of those games where the outside events contributed as much as the game itself although the game did involve 2 high scoring offenses as well.

Meanwhile, Dallas open to any offers for Dez Bryant. Nobody actually thinks Cowboys will do a trade but more of a "feeler" to see what they could get from a potential Bryant offer.

Well look at it like this. They say the playoffs brings the best outta players. The packers have been playing "playoff" games since at least week 17. I think they beat the bears by 3, but they really didnt have anything to lose even though there starters were playing. But the way rodgers raped us im never doubting him again. And The jets barely escaped pittsburgh with polamalu sidelined.....previous meetings dont mean shit i know this but i exect both these games to be hella good.....and i hope its snowing in both places

This isn't the World Series or the NBA where you need to large market teasm to get rating, Super Bowl will do huge numbers no matter what.

Those two cities have never played for a league title in any sport ever.

Holy shit is everyone retarded?.... im not saying the packers/steelers would do shitty numbers. Im saying the networks are praying for chicago/new york.

And we're saying you're wrong. The networks aren't going to make any significant amount more money either way, anyway.

Like Instant Classic said, ratings in the NFL have little to do with the home markets. Green Bay-Philadelphia broke the wildcard round rating record this year, and that wasn't because of the market size- it was because of the national reputation of the teams and the fanbase.

Green Bay and Pittsburgh are among the largest fanbases nationally, and have a solid reputation of great football. There's no way for us to really know, but I guarantee that that matchup would put up the best numbers.

Here's some numbers.

2. Pittsburgh
T4. Chicago
T4. Green Bay
18. New York Jets

So, you could reasonable argue that Steelers-Bears or Steelers-Packers would be the media's "dream match", but certainly nothing involving the Jets.

Emperor Smeat
01-18-2011, 10:01 PM
To be fair, the Jets do share a city/states with the older Giants so it makes sense the gap in support. Its the same with every league having a multi-team city (ex. LA in NBA, NY and Chicago in MLB, etc).

Giants fanbase is stronger than Jets fanbase in New England due to it being a hotbed for Giants until Pats arrived in 1960s.

NFL could get away with having New York being heavy for the Jets this playoffs since you'd get New York/New Jersey and a good percentage of Giants fans rooting for the Jets to benefit NY but their real interest after the playoffs would be with the Giants for long term.

Nice on Sunday that I got talking to 2 Jets fans and we went to Olive Garden before the game and watched the Bears game and bought me lunch. Patriots fans were fine and respectful overall, barring some dickheads when I went to the toilet at half time, but every team is bound to have a few. They'd had a couple of Bud Lights I think ;)

Okay, I think the New England win has finally sunk in. I'm now ready for Pittsburgh. 3 straight road play off wins is going to be tough, going to be a hell of a battle. Be nervous as fuck :(

I'm sure the networks would prefer Green Bay just because they have more marketable players than Chicago. People seem pretty intent on making Aaron Rodgers the new it quarterback and if he's in the Super Bowl that's definitely gonna happen.

ESPN's Mel Kippler predicts that if Cam Newton was to be picked in the 1st Round or upper 1st Round, then Washington will be the team to take him at #10. The amount of money for a #10 pick means they can't train him the 2-3 years expected for Cam to adjust to the NFL style.

Titans backup QB Chris Simms decides to be a dumbass and rejects a plea deal by prosecutors in his marijuana case in New York. Originally arrested for driving while under the influence of marijuana.

Had he accepted all he would be punished with is 5 days community service, $500 fine, and 90 days probation on his drivers license.

Now he has to fight off having the charges placed on his criminal record, 1 year in jail, and any fines/punishments from the NFL since they originally were not interested in punishing him.

He made Jabari Greer a shut down corner (he had a bad end of the season).. He makes his guys ball hawks which is an all or nothing style.. That's what happened in the Seattle game.. Roman Harper kept jumping the short route and getting burned by the double move.. We missed Malcolm Jenkins in that game because sharper is old and beat up.. Look at it this way, even with the drop off in take sways, the saints ended the season 4th overall in defense.. Even when we had the Dome Patrol we weren't at that level.. Allen was part of that..

FearedSanctity
01-25-2011, 02:07 AM
I like the ball hawk thing. Denver rarely gets any picks, mostly due to the DBs being in terrible position. Helps that that's what McD's draft picks were drafted for, their hawking ability.

Two questions. Can I look forward to the defense actually covering the TE, or will they continue pretending he doesn't exist thus being constantly burned on 3rd down by a wide open TE? And will the DBs play a little closer than 5-10 yards off their man, and thus & short plays not consistently being converted via short curls or quick slants?

Bonus question, is Coach Allen aware that RBs can in fact catch passes?

Stallworth was also not completely at fault for killing the guy... he had been drinking but if a guy runs in front of your car sober or drunk, your still probably going to kill him. He got out of his car immediately and was helping the guy and got tagged for the dui after the cops decided to check him out and they went after him very hard. I'm saying this to EVERYONE here - Show me ANY bit of solid proof that Ben did anything wrong, and I'll relent. This country was founded on "innocent until proven guilty."

Let me preface my comments by saying I don't give a shit about what Roethlisberger did or didn't do.

Now, I'll give anyone the benefit of the doubt the first time. Ben was accused twice. Could they be false accusations? Sure, I suppose. Regardless, the fact that he was in that situation not once, but twice, is questionable at the very least. That's people's perceptions. It doesn't matter if he was convicted criminally, he is guilty by some in the court of public opinion. Is it fair? Maybe not, but then again, don't put yourself in compromising situations.

What the hell does that matter? You just described any attention seeking female. However, despite her whorish ways, if at any point she says the word "NO" it's fucking rape. No matter how she may have carried herself prior

As a heterosexual male, would I have? Sure. But no matter my need to do the dew, I'm aware of what the word "NO" means and am also aware that if she says it it's fucking RAPE.

Well, in Ben's shoes, I would be very careful about what I did and what places I found myself in. As myself I would fuck her, but no one is going to try to pin rape on me unless I actually try it.

When I look at this situation, I ask myself, "Why was Ben even in this situation?" He didn't get convicted criminally in the first case, and won't in the second either. But I ask why he was even there? An 18 and over bar? What the fuck? That's the problem with the whole thing. What does that look like to the general public? There is going to be a significant amount of people who are going to look at that and conclude he is guilty, whether he is technically convicted or not. It's going to be something that will stick with him. It will probably disappear in time, but for now, it's here.
