Joey Radd, are you suggesting that it's somehow out of the ordinary for a person to make a sports prediction? That appears to be what you're suggesting. If that is what you're suggesting, that is a really stupid suggestion. If that's not what you're suggesting, please carry on.
Joe Kerr
09-24-2010, 04:33 PM
am not suggesting, I can just as easily predict Cleveland in the superbowl...It would also be a rather dumb prediction and i would expect to be flamed. Same as saying Wade philips will be fired next week is a dumb prediction.
Reavant
09-24-2010, 05:10 PM
your logic would make sense if dallas going 0-4 wasnt completely possible with the schedule they have ahead of them. The texans are awesome and the titans are strong against the pass and can run it down their throats.

Cowboys will not go 0-4. Reavant has a better chance of wearing size 34 pants by the end of the week.

As far as Wade Phillips' Job goes, with the bye week you would have to expect that if they lose to the Texans and fall to 0-3 that Jerry Jones doesn't have much choice but to fire him. This was supposed to be the year they played in the Super Bowl at the Jerry Jones Palace, not start 0-3 and probably finish no better than 7-9 and not even make the playoffs. Jason Garrett is next in line and if they fired him (garrett), I dare say 1/2 the league would be calling him the next day with job offers to be a head coach. Its not like they can fire a defensive coordinator since Wade has that role as well.
I could see them relieving him of the Defense Coordinator role but thats not going to be a big enough shake up.
Oddly enough though, I couldn't pass up taking the Cowboys on a teaser at +9 1/2.
I think the game will play out similarly to what happened with the Texans last weekend in that it'll be a close game decided by a TD or less, but the Texans will definitely win.
Speaking of that teaser, I also took the Lions +16 1/2 vs the Vikings. I saw a stat that said of the 32 games so far this season, 19 of them were decided by 7 points or less. Combine that with the fact that the Vikings haven't even scored 20 points this year and the Lions effort in the 2nd half vs the Eagles and it was a no brainer. Also took the Titans + 9 1/2 vs the Giants. In this case, I think the Titans are the better team and the Giants will be very vulnerable to Chris Johnson running them over, and I think they have a good shot of winning or at least keeping it to within a TD.

Texans Defense isnt that impressive, yes they rushed peyton Manning alot but they also let him throw for 477 yds. They squeaked by the skins had the skins not missed the feild goal texans could be 1-1. Texans offense has been good but now Andre Johnson is hurt and questionable against Cowboys i dont see them being as impressive. I hate the Cowboys but you have made me cheer for them over the texans this week.
on a side note Doogie howser...err..i mean Reavant neg repped me 3 times in here for my opinon, didnt know he wanted Matt Shaubs cock so bad, Douche bag.
Droford
09-24-2010, 06:30 PM
Peyton threw for 477 yards because they were down like 2 TDs and the colts completely abandoned the running game after about the 1st quarter. McNabb threw for 400 yards because the Redskins couldnt run the football. The Texans have only allowed 62 yards rushing, and I dont see the Cowboys and their 3 headed puppy dog of Barber/Jones/Choice doing much better.
No team in NFL History has allowed 3 QBs consecutively to throw for 400+ yards. I just think that the Texans will be able to run the ball with Foster, control the clock and keep Romo off the field. Romo isn't Peyton Manning and when he's forced into the same situation he'll throw at least one, if not two picks.

i was able to trick a guy in my fantasy league to take Reggie Bush and give me Rashard Mendenhall. He is going to be pissed when he sees bush is done. Best case scenario he comes back toward the end of the season.

Saints I think are - 5 1/2. Reggie Bush out isn't much of a factor. Turner's hamstring issue is a factor for the Falcons though...if they can't run the ball they dont stand much of a chance and they already lost Norwood for the year and would be relying on Snelling, who had a decent fill in game vs the Cardinals but its the Cardinals..last time I checked the Saints defense was a bit better.
The 5 1/2 is low, I think the Saints win it easy and Im laughing at the people picking the falcons. OOH the falcons beat the Cardinals last week 41-7..doesn't mean a thing. If it were in Atlanta where the Falcons seem to play a little bit better it could be closer but they'd still lose.

I think fans from other markets may underestimate the media obsession with the Cowboys in Dallas, and the shitstorms their failures cause.
Them going 0-2 is absolute chaos in the media down there already. I have witnessed it and heard a lot about how ridiculous it is, as my brother lives in Dallas.
Jeritron
09-25-2010, 01:51 AM
Really hope it's not another year of inconsistent play from The Pats. Especially in the second half. Last week was annoying as shit.
Other than that I'm looking forward to the prospect of The Cowboys going 0-3.
Would love to see the Vikings lose again too but I doubt it this week
Evil Vito

<font color=goldenrod>Cowboys going 0-3 would salvage my Sunday even if the Giants were to lose.

I dont get why guys like Kornheiser think or say that shit. Whats so important about the Cowboys in the overall importance of the league?
Supreme Olajuwon
09-25-2010, 01:35 PM
Because in other sports it's beneficial for the league when teams like the Yankees, Lakers, and Red Wings are good because more people will watch. But in the NFL it doesn't mean shit.

No I get that, but Dallas isnt the biggest market out there. I mean jerry jones is dumping money into them and texas is insane when it comes to football, but Houston is a bigger city so shouldnt they be happier with them doing good? Wouldnt the league do better with a new york team doing good?

Past few years the Colts fan base has really soared. Ironically the Pats have declined. The patriots have pretty much become the most hated team unles you live around Boston.

Cowboys and Steelers are both bigger. Chicago has a bigger home market, but nationally Cowboys and Steelers are easily the biggest.

The Bears went to the Superbowl 4 years ago, Dallas have won a single play-off game in 14 years. So I don't think consistincency plays much of a factor.

Dallas started making them the last 4 years, before that they are absolutley awful.
They might make the playoffs, but in the last 10 years have won one playoff game.

The man on the Right, Ben Maller host of the weekend overnight radio show from 1-6 am on FOX Sports Radio, is the reason why the Cowboys are 0-2 and going to suck this year. He gets callers to pick a team to be a fan of every year before the season starts and this year he rigged the vote to get the Cowboys. With the exception of the 2007 Titans that managed to get a Wild Card berth, the other two teams (08 Jets with Favre and 09 Chiefs) had bad years. But there's good news, as each team he has been a fan of has had a great year the next year (07 Titans that went 13-3 in 08, 08 Jets that went to the AFC Title game last year and the 09 Chiefs that are 2-0 so far)
Its the curse of the Benbino!

Last time the Giants played the Titans I'm pretty sure was the game where the Titans were down 21-0 in the 4th quarter Mathias Kiwanuka had Vince Young wrapped up for a sack on 4th down or something and drove him back like 10 yards and then let go of him because the refs always blow that play dead 100% of the time and then Vince Young was able to scramble and throw a first down and they went on to win that game. I think that was the worst I have ever felt after a loss. I am "still bitter about it."
I have a feeling Chris Johnson is going to destroy the Giants today.

If you don't have Redzone/can't watch it and wanna be able to watch a bunch of games, Game Pass on NFL.com is free for the weekend, you just have to sign up and then cancel before the 30th I believe.

Apparently ESPN is reporting Braylon Edwards wasn't punished because he was arrested and got a DWI but because he managed to get arrested late at night.
"We felt he didn't deserve to start based on the fact that ... not for the arrest as much as going out and being out until 5 in the morning," Tannenbaum said Sunday morning as a guest of Ian O'Connor on 1050 ESPN Radio.
In terms of the hour of arrest, the players didn't have a curfew. In fact, the Jets didn't have practice Tuesday -- it was a mandatory day off for the players.
As of right now he's only pulled as a starter but could play depending on the situation in the game (aka Jets loosing).

The Steelers come out of the bye after the Ravens game with a game with the Browns, but then they play the toughest stretch of games @Dolphins/@Saints/@Bengals/Patriots. The toughest part is the fact that the first 3 are on the road in a row which will be brutal for any team and the last 3 are all primetime games. Granted at the end of the year people might look back and see they beat the Titans and Falcons who both look to be playoff contenders now, but the Steelers season is going to ride on those 4 games.
It would be funny if they manage to go 4-0 w/o Big Ben, 5-0 to start and then struggle with him as QB in that tough road game stretch.

On September 1st if anyone would have said that the only undefeated teams left going into October would be the Chiefs, Bears and Steelers I think someone would have had them committed to an insane asylum.
Now..on to the most important thing..
Having not learned my lesson by missing out on $1,000 by Norv Turner being an idiot, Im going back to the well, twice as hard with another 9 team teaser parlay this time for $100 to win $2,200..cause thats how I am...really stupid.
Anyway..
San Francisco at Atlanta - 1.5
Cincinnati +2.5 at Cleveland
NY Jets + 1.5 at Buffalo
Seattle + 4.5 at St. Louis
Denver at Tennessee - .5
Detroit at Green Bay (estimated to be -13.5 plus the 6 pt teaser=-7.5)
Carolina + 19.5 at New Orleans
Indianapolis -1.5 at Jacksonville
Washington at Philadelphia -.5
The only wacky looking pick is Carolina + 19.5, but the way I see it, the Saints haven't been blowing anyone out of the water this year and history is on my side as 9 of the last 13 meetings have been won by the road team outright (though I really don't expect the Panthers to win, I just don't think the Saints will win by 20 points)
The great part about getting a jacked up line close to 3 TDs in the NFL is that its not that common for teams to blow out by that many as they'll call off the dogs and run the football to eat clock to speed up the game and plus the team thats down usually finds away to score garbage points late.
I was thinking about going with the +19.5 on Detroit vs Green Bay but I cant pull the plug even though Detroit covered a +16.5 this past weekend for me vs the Vikings by losing 24-10. If the line on GB moves higher than what I expect it to be (-13.5) and pushed the teaser on the Lions up to over +20 points I might change my mind.

All the talk about the 18 game schedule and how it would be too long and players risking injuries got me to thinking..
Why don't they schedule a Conference wide bye week in the middle of the season for each conference? I say conference wide because theres no way the NFL would shut down for an entire week, so essentially the season would be 20 weeks long, with each team getting its normal bye week plus say Week 9 is the AFC's week off and week 11 is the NFC's week off. Or they could just do 2 bye weeks, 1 in the first 10 weeks and 1 in the 2nd 10 weeks...
I do honestly think 18 games is too much though, but I have a feeling its going to happen.

Surprised Illinois didn't go to Bears since Chicago is a big market in terms of football and most sports.

The Chiefs could be the only undefeated team left if the Ravens win and the Giants win..

I'm picking the Ravens, I don't see a third string QB doing much against that defence.

and I dont see a Ray Rice-less Ravens offense doing much against the Steelers' defense.
I will be shocked (happily of course) if the Ravens win but Im not gonna be depressed about a loss unless they give it away late or something. But obviously 2 games back of the Steelers already and probably in 3rd place in the division at the quarter pole isn't what was expected of the Ravens..

NFL doesnt need a farm system because they have a draft
So MLB doesn't need minor leagues, either?

MLB can sign guys to contracts right out of high school and they dont have a draft so yes they do need them. What dont you understand here?

I don't understand this. MLB does have a draft. They have 2 drafts actually. Don't know what's going on here.

NFL does need a minor league IMO in part due to players going from college to pro going from like 200+ teams to 32. Leaves a lot of talent out there. And while yeah the NFL does have the best there is, what about the guys who just need some time. College leaves players with 4 years tops, and that's IF you start as a freshman.
Having a farm system allows guys a better chance to develop. Practice squads are pretty shit, at least with a minor league you get the chance to see what a guy really has in game situations instead of practice, without having to try to fit him in onto your 53 man roster AND try to get him on the field during gameday. SHit would work wonders for rookie QBs like Tebow or Bradford, actually allowing them to play instead of just practice and a couple preaseason games per year.
And wtf? Yeah, MLB not only has a draft, but isn't at leats one of them like 1000 rounds long? Don't understand how hockey, baseball and basketball can have drafts, college teams and minor/developmental leagues, but it's just not right for the NFL

Farm Systems would benefit QB's big time, and with an 18 game regular season, and fewer pre-season games, QBs are going to have less time in the future to develop. If it wasn't for the pre-season, the packers would never have known that Aaron Rodgers was ready to be a starter.
