I've seen Campbell take players on against Chelesea before, not sure if he does against other teams, his run against Portsmouth shows what he can do, good thinking too. And like you say, King isn't all he is said to be, he can just had the ball, and Terry hardly had the greatest of tournaments, so I wouldn't blame it on Campbell, and he had a good World Cup '98 IMO.
ECG, can you honestly tell me you watch Chelsea matches this season? Maybe you could remind me when Carvalho has skinned anyone? I suppose maybe he may want to get more confident in the English game before trying to take players on, because at the moment I am sure he hasn't. Gallas is our only defender that take players on at the back.
Terry and Carvalho both organisation and class to the team, I really do think that you haven't watched any of our matches on T.V, and not highlights as that obviously only rarely shows our defence :D, because the way they both deal with an attack is superb, Terry is always calm at the back and he is never out of position, always gets the job done, never looks like a mug and once Terry gets the recognition he deserves and becomes the man for England, everyone will be sucking his penis.
I have said United will win hte league since June now, and I still believe it, Josè is so far up his own arse that just because he seems confident doesn't mean we all should be. Seriously, look at our fixtures, Anfield on New Years day, Arsenal lost their and we rarely do well their, United at OT in April, Arsenal at home in April, Southampton away that month and Harry will have them sorted by then, Bolton Away, thats four hard ties in April, and going to St James' Park on the last day of the season isn't the easiest fixture either, the league is far from won. Plus if we beat Barca in the Champions League we will have even more fucking matches in April.

I don't mean simply taking men on once in a while, I mean a great defender has to be a great footballer also. I don't think Campbell or Terry are great footballers, and I think that certainly was evident when they played together at Euro 2004 and were unable to push out from the back and play it out from there. Either of them beside Rio Ferdinand would be excellent, but I think at the top level, they need someone of Rio's class there.
Good Premiership players, like Frank Lampard. Against the top teams, I think they're found wanting.
I watched Norwich vs. Chelsea last Saturday, by the way, on Irish TV.
Nice one, you would have watched that match, one of the only that Carvalho hasn't played in, but he really doesn't do more then his basic defending duties.
Campbell and Terry both had great seasons for their club but not too impressive ones for their countries, I'd blame Eriksson for being a moron too though, not just Terry and Campbell, seriously, you just remember them for not playing too well in a few games, they are great players. I really think they would be great if they played along side each other again.

Dazz, I agree with you about Terry being a class defender cos I really rate him, I wouldn't agree he's better than Rio Ferdinand but still.
I disagree with where you say he and Campbell are a good combination together. I agree with ECG that they don't work well together. I said this during Euro 2004 if Ferdinand was available id play him and Terry because whilst Campbell and Terry are both good defenders, neither are particularly composed on the ball like Rio is.
I also don't think Campbell is that great. Im not saying he's bad or anything but out of the 3, id rather have Terry and Rio. ECG pretty much hit it on the head when he said Campbell was big black and good at heading :$
But then again, you are convinced that De Zeuuw isn't just a big fat slow lump.

Yeah, just on that point, how many games do you get to see in England?
Premiership coverage here is pretty awesome (if you have cable :y::D), like at least 3 or 4 live games a week, usually 3 live on saturday night and whatever other games during the week are usually live as well.

There's normally 2 PPV games on Saturday, a PPV and free game on Sunday, and then the Monday night football. There's normally at least 2-3 La Liga games per weekend as well (normally but not always featuring Barca and/or Real Madrid), and there's Nationwide as well, although that's normally one game per Friday night and anything else is a bonus.

United should have never admitted Rooney was wrong even though he was. We would have had time to appeal any charge which wouldn't have been anymore than a 3 game ban and in that time, Rooney could play and Saha would probably be back in time for when Rooney would actually be suspended.
That fat cunt of a Bolton manager has lost his mind saying Ben Haim didn't nothing wrong. Play acting is breaking rules dickhead. Stop moaning about Rooney and video replays.

Spain coach Luis Aragones has dug himself deeper into a hole over his remark about Thierry Henry by now referring to Jose Antonio Reyes as “a gypsy”.
Aragones faces disciplinary action from the Spanish FA, who have launched an investigation into the coach telling Reyes that he was better than “that black ****” Henry.
Now, in an interview with Madrid newspaper El Mundo, Aragones tried to defend himself but succeeded only in making things worse.
Aragones said: “Reyes is ethnically a gypsy, I have got a lot of gypsy and black friends, I consider myself a citizen of the world, I don’t care about their skin colour.
“All I did was to motivate the gypsy by telling him he was better than the black.
“I feel I have been the victim of a lynching. All I did was try to motivate Reyes comparing him with Henry and making him see that he was better.
“I didn’t use the term ‘black’ with any racist meaning.
“I’m not going to forget what’s happened. A section of the press in this country
Spain] has lynched me and I will not forget that my family have had a very bad time as a consequence of this.”

I know this isn't exactly to do with loyalty, but Roy Keane isn't a man of his word, wasn't it Souness or someone he shook hands with on a deal when leaving Notts Forest, only to stitch him up and join ManYoo.
Robbie Keane moved from club to club, but I suppose that's a one off.
El Capitano Gatisto

It was Dalgish. Dalglish thought he had agreed to move to Blackburn, but Manchester United snuck in and nabbed him. Then again, when Keane had the chance to move on a Bosman to Real Madrid or Juventus, he decided to stay where he was.
Poor Robbie. He got fucked around more than anything else. I bet Wolves fans still love him. Inter signed him and sacked Lippi a couple of months later, then the Turk they brought in didn't fancy him.
He went to Leeds, and everyone knows the story there.
Fair enough, I'll let Robbie Keane off. And since joining United I don't think anyone can question Roy Keane's loyalty, asking for £50,000 a week when those kind of wages were hugely unheard of in England is the closest thing he's done to being disloyal I suppose.

Not the first time this has happened though
I remember when bolton came up, and went down the second time, On our first game at the Reebok, Nathan Blake scored a clear goal against everton, but no one spotted we had scored, we ended up getting relgated that season on goal difference , if the goal had stood, Everton would have gone down,
Cactus Sid

What I can't understand is how the linesman made 2 mistakes in that incident.
The fact the ball went over the line by a yard in the first place is a disgrace that it was missed, but there is another important point here.
Carroll, no matter how you look at it, clearly pushed the ball back, and seemingly in the eyes of the linesman it was "away from the line". Yet, if you look, as he pushes it back, the ball lands more or less on the goal line, how the hell did the linesman not realise that if the ball was bouncing on the goal line AFTER the keeper had pushed it forward, that the ball had not crossed the line.
He had 2 chances to give a clear goal....and failed. What more can be said.
Wengerland
01-05-2005, 08:48 AM
Yeah, shocking mess up.
To be fair to the linesman he's doing all he can to get there because he was up with play and can't really expect a 50 yard shot to come in, let alone get in a good position to see whether it had crossed the line by the time it drops. He shouldn't really just assume it crossed the line without getting a good view.
Another great goal from SWP though, i'd have him in the England side ahead of Beckham easily now.

It could be a blessing if he moves for another top midfielder, someone like Aimar or Rosicky, who've been linked with us in the past, would more than make up for his absence.
Love how people are getting on Man U's case llike it's our fault the ref is a moron. We all know it crossed the line but it's hardly our fault if a goal isn't given. Ferguson admitted he was shocked it wasn't given. From what they just showed on Sky, the ref was at the half way line so he had no chance but the linesman was on the 18 yard line and it was debatable. It looks like Carroll blocked his view and a case of you can't give what you don't see. Still an awful decision though.
On another note, if we don't beat Arsenal and Chelsea, it's all over for us.
Yeah like what Rob said, (I cannot believe I am agreeing with something he said here) The lino tried to get in as good position as he could, as the MOTD replays show, he wasn't concentrating too much on Carroll, more where he was running, as he obviously didn't expect Carroll to fuck up. It would have been worse (to United fans anyway) if the goal had stood but it wasn't a goal. I have no complaints over the decision.

We don't get much of the Scottish League here in Australia, but at South Melbourne he was one of our best players for the 2 years he was here. He played right back for us, and was an absolute rock. He should be in the Australian national team defence, apart from Craig Moore and Lucas Neil we have old farts holding the defence up (Vidmar, Muscat, Popovic). Anyway from what I've read he broke into Hearts' first team and has stayed there ever since so he must be doing well for them. Hopefully he does well for you blokes. :)

Can't afford Riordan i don't think, though it would be nice to have him. If these players were good enough to get Hearts to successive 3rd place finishes in the SPL then they should be good enough for us.
He's been left with an old squad on big wages and 1 year contracts, so it's just nice to see him giving people longer deals and trying to build a younger side. As long as we don't go down this year then i don't mind how we do, next season is really the time to be judging Craig.

Associated Press
1/8/2005
ROME (AP) - Italy's soccer federation is investigating Lazio captain Paolo Di Canio for making what appeared to be a neo-fascist salute after his side's 3-1 derby victory over AS Roma this week.
The federation asked its inquiry office on Friday to study Di Canio's action. The star was photographed with his arm outstretched, palm facing down - a gesture generally associated in Italy with fascist leader Benito Mussolini.
Di Canio, who was widely criticized for the gesture, said it had no political significance.
The Lazio star, who scored the opening goal of the Thursday's match, said he has been a die-hard, or "ultra" Lazio fan for his entire life. Some "ultra" fans have sometimes used neo-fascist gestures at matches.
The player returned to Lazio this season after playing several years in the English Premier League, and is a popular player among the team's fans.

Atletico fined after Carlos abuse
Atletico Madrid have been fined 600 euros (£420) for the racist chanting aimed at Real Madrid full-back Roberto Carlos during the La Liga derby.
The Spanish FA's disciplinary committee decided Sunday's incidents were only a minor misdemeanour.
Referee Alfonso Perez Burrull asked Atletico to put out an announcement on the stadium's PA system asking the fans to stop, in the 83rd minute.
However, the PA announcement resulted in an increase in the chanting.
The Spanish FA released a statement regarding the punishment.
"We wish to repeat our condemnation of this kind of behaviour and repeat our promise to act with maximum firmness to eradicate any display of racism or xenophobia in Spanish football," it read.
The fine is exactly the same amount Albacete were fined before Christmas when Barcelona striker Samuel Eto's was racially abused in Atletico's Carlos Belmonte stadium.
Burrull was again the referee for that contest, but on that occasion Albacete refused his request to make an announcement on their PA.
Their fine was reduced to 300 euros (£210) on appeal, but the fans who did the chanting were singled out by other supporters and fined 6,000 euros (£4,100) each, as well as receiving a five-month ban from other sporting events.

No one fucks with Drogba, Kezman or Terry, you will get battered, United are the pussiest team in the league, and how anyone can think Heinze is hard is a joke. He came with a reputation of being hard, he crunched some bloke in the Champions League near the touchline at Old Trafford earlier this season, which probably made me think he was hard, but last nights game proved he is as pussy and girly as the rest of Argentina, they will never win a war if pussies like him are deemed to be hard. He knew no would would punch him during the match, I'd like to see him even think about taking on our whole team, or even just Drogba on his own, if he saw them in the streets,

Didn't look to hard when Fortune put in a tough challenge.
Bless you Dazz for thinking so much of Drogba. His mum doesn't think this much of him
And you didn't think too much of forlan

shut your mouth. we are awesome. heinze, fortune, keane, djemba (although he should get nowhere near the pitch), smith and rooney, and possibly carroll too, although keepers can't do much. we have a pretty awesome team as far as getting stuck in goes.

From Northern Ireland mate, so that would explain why Carroll got a mention. There is a story here that keano picked up on him in his first season and he squared up to him only for Keane to back down.
Serious tho, he is a big fella and Keane is hard as nails despite people seeming to think otherwise. They would seriously kill any of those three, and as for the rest of the team, Gudjohnsen, Carvalho, little Makele, they are not gonna do much of anything in a brawl

That is a joke really mate, but sorry, Keane or Carroll would batter any of those three you mentioned, and as for players thinking they ae hard, Kezman is the prime example. Maybe if he actually starts playing first team football and isn't bollox he can start his stupid taunting. Drogba beating up anyone, lol
All you'd have to do is throw a ball at Carroll and he'd be all over the place.
Adam Kirk, you truely are the man, you are unbiased and support a shit team, thefore you are twice as good as shit united fans.
I love Adam Kirk, who else is called Adam Kirk, coz you deserve a good rep.

Wow, Nigel Quashie is going to Southampton.
When it was rumoured that Harry wanted to "raid us for players" I sat down and came up with a very small list of players who I thought would never go to Southampton. And Quashie was one of the few players on that list.
Thats just about killed what little faith i had left in football then...

i can honestly say of all the transfer rumours i've heard, that is the one i never saw coming. Is this the point where everton begin their fall back down the table then?

I'd tell you to shut up but you are my alter ego so it's like talking to myself here.
Gravesen just completed his move to Real Madrid.
Damn! I wanted him at Man U. I think we'll probably end up with Solari at the summer but we need replacements for Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson fast.
Keano is past it, you need a tough tackling midfielder.
We can lend you one.

as an everton sympathizer it is a little sad to see him go. I just hope they can get a suitable replacement e.g parker

Funny enough, I'd take Geremi off you lot.

Makelele is solid, you can tell just from his handshake he is solid, he nearly crushed my hand :(. I never said those players would do anything, just we do have some muscle in the team, Gallas and Cech could do some big time damage.
Funny enough, I'd take Geremi off you lot.
Go for it, he has been useless for us.

Fergie on Rooney:
"He's actually a quiet boy with great enthusiasm in training. He loves training. I used to just have one problem on the training ground, which was Scholes. Now there are two of them. They get on early and you can't get them off after. They batter balls all over the place and one of them will hit me one day and kill me. That Scholes sends them inches by my head. Then all they hear is me bellowing 'Scholes!' 'What?' he says, looking up like an angel. And they hit the ball hard. Gary Neville was having a piss one day, 45 yards away by the fence. Scholes whacked him right in the arse."
:D

When about did he look solid? When he was rolling about on the deck after being tapped on the head.
That was a one off, the guy is fucking hard, we all do stupid things from time to time.
