Brum 2 Arsenal 1, they hadn't scored a single goal against us since they came up before today.
All of the goals in the final 10 minutes, would have been fucking fantastic to watch, had anyone cared
The Mackem

Robbie Fowler mised a penalty in the last minute which made Man City miss out on Europe. Pretty dramatic final day, Emile Heskey scored a goal as well.

I tell you what, for a day when aside from wanting City to finish 7th and Southampton to go down, its been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster all over the shop. Plenty of goals in most games. I got really concerned when Bolton went 2 up and Villa got one back, but we held on for 5th. I actually wanted Man U to win ( :o ) feeling really sorry for Norwich. Truly fantastic day for football, in a week where football, the game, has been put on the backburner for football, the business.

Agreed. Today has been a ton of fun. Feeling a little bad for the Southampton fans and Nigel Quashie but in my opinion, the team that has been playing the better football of the four have stayed up. Glad Palace went down. It would have been criminal if they stayed up because Andy Johnson scored 97 penalties in the season.

That it's been an awesome day ;)
Wanted West Brom to stay up (though anyone but Southampton would have done) and the sheepshaggers to lose their play-off game, two out of two.
If only the Leicester Tigers hadn't bottled their title match it would have been a superb weekend.

Yeah, what a day.
Roll on Saturday night
Was it just me or did the Southampton fans start chanting "USA, USA, USA"?
The United fans started singing "There's only one Bryan Robson!" and I said to my old man that the Southampton fans should just shut them up by singing "there's only one Malcolm Glazer". 3 seconds later..

Got back in from West Bromwich at about 10 last night, starving and absolutly fucking knackered but feeling very very happy.
I witnessed a match and an atmosphere unlike anything I have ever seen before. Talking to some old guy infront of me after the match he said he hadn't seen anything like it in his lifetime and that I wouldn't see anything like it again.
For those of you that aren't sure what im talking about, the scenario is like this:
If the results went the right way, West Brom would stay up and our most hated rivals with their horrible lying Judas management team; Southampton would go down.
There was a 2,900 Pompey following there and it was very strange, completly mental.
Both sets of fans had dozens of inflatables and balloons and were chucking them about but the was also Pompey fans wearing West Brom scarfs and shirts with "Pompey" printed on the back.
As the ground filled up it got even crazier, the huge Pompey following started singing West Brom songs and cheering their players as they came out to warm up.
When the teams emerged and the team sheets were read out, the Pompey fans cheered every one of their players (big cheer for BRUUUUUUNO since he's a former Pompey player). Both sets of fans joined in with a loud rendition of the Great Escape as the match started.
The Pompey fans were willing the West Brom players on and singing "You only need one goal" and "Let them score". Ricardo Fuller committed a foul and the Pompey fans chanted "off off off".
The news filtered through of goals for Fulham against Norwich, Scum against Man U and Palace and Charlton, leading to huge cheers from both sets of fans when they went for West Brom (and against scum) and great disapointment when they went against them.
West Brom were pretty poor first half, which annoyed everyone in the stadium, it was nice that Pompey were knocking it about and playing some decent stuff...but today we didn't want to be seeing that. West Brom never really looked like scoring.
Second half West Brom looked much brighter and eventually Geoff Horsefield scored and both sets of fans went mental. I can honestly not explain how weird it is to cheer a goal AGAINST your team. Cue more Albion songs from the Pompey fans.
The news filtered through that Man U had gone ahead against scum, however Palace were beating Charlton so it wasn't looking good for West Brom....then suddenly a huge cheer went up as Charlton equalized.
Another huge cheer from the Pompey fans when the final whistle went at St Mary's which was clapped by the West Brom fans. Then the final whistle went at the Hawthorns and both sets of fans went mental.
Arjan de Zeeuw, Dejan Stefanovic, Matthew Taylor, Joey Kamara and Gary O'Neil came over to applaud the away fans and chuck their shirts to us. Im sure they felt a bit weird that we hadn't been supporting them and cheering them as usual but we gave them a huge ovation and im sure they'll understand how much it meant to us that scum went down.
Then the West Brom fans invaded the pitch, a load of them nicked Joey Kamara's shorts too. Thousands of them gathered around infront of the Pompey end and both sets of fans joined in with eachother, taking it in turns to sing Pompey and West Brom songs, anti scum and anti Wolves songs (ADAM, I LIKE WOLVES MORE THAN WEST BROM, I CAN'T CONTROL THE MASSES :$:$:$). Pompey and West Brom fans were swapping shirts and scarfs and hugging and shaking hands with eachother, even though they'd never met before.
I shook hands with random West Brom fans wondering around in the Pompey end and we joined eachother singing "We're by far the greatest city" about our respective teams, each trying to be a bit louder on the "Portsmouth City"/"West Bromwich Albion" bit
Amarillo was played and both sets of fans went mental, singing along and the West Brom fans joined in with the "we're gonna send the scummers down" part.
After what must've been atleast 20 minutes of this joint celebration the West Brom players came out for their lap of honour, almost all the Pompey fans were still there cheering them on (especially BRUUUUUUNO).
After we left, on the coach ride out, whenever we passed West Brom fans in their cars or outside pubs or walking home they waved and we "boinged" at them and clapped, all the way out of West Bromwich.
Absolutly top day that I (along with most Pompey fans and West Brom fans that were there) wont forget in a long long time.

Superb, Sheffield Wednesday beat Brentford
Got a soft spot for Paul Sturrock and I absolutely hate Martin Allen, so great result
RBF, I promised you'd come home with a huge buzz like never before didn't I.
And you gotta feel sorry for the Brentford fans, they hoped they'd avoid relegation and then they get to the play offs, even at 3-0 down on agg they still were well loud. Unlucky Bees.

Be a laugh to see Paul Sturrock face Southampton next season though
Exactly what I said to my mates down the pub. I'd love for him to beat them both times. I am sure Southampton will go straight back up, but if they came 7th and Sheff Wednesday came 6th it'd be great.

I can only assume Sven has never ever seen him play because he is an absolute shambles of a joke of a defender, playing for a team with an absolutly shitty defensive record, despite the fact they have Edwin van der Sar in goal.
You could play a small bag of sugar and it would do a better job than Zat Knight.

Quashie's story didnt even make sense. He said he was taken to one side and told he was being sold and that he really wanted to stay, then he said that Zajec told him he didn't want to sell him because he was one of our best players.
Zajec was caretaker manager and is in charge of transfers, why would he say he didn't want to sell him and that he was our best player...and then go and sell him? Also, by all accounts he was a cockey shit who no one liked in the changing rooms (thats what Alexei Smertin said in an interview in the Observer pretty much)
Quashie was on £8,000 a week here which is more or less what he deserved. He demanded more money, Milan called his bluff and off he went to Southampton where they were not only stupid enough to give us an over inflated fee for him, but also give him stupidly over the top wages and apparently a £250,000 release clause if they got relegated.
Then Quashie is constantly in the papers after he's moved going on about how his wife and daughter had to move to Nottingham because they were scared they were going to get killed by Pompey fans :|
Also, what ECG said.</font>

We could've kept Berger and Stone if we wanted to, but Perrin obviously didn't think it worthwhile to offer them new contracts so thats up to him. Im a bit shocked about Stone but he's nearly 34 and only plays 25 games a season, Berger hasn't played well for 6 months though.
Faye, Quashie and Yakubu didn't want to be here so we sold them, we've got over £11m in the bank from the sale of them and they're not irreplacable. Yak has been lazy as hell since december anyway and 7 goals from open play this season isn't overly impressive. Lua Lua has only scored 2 less from open play despite playing out of position and playing less.
The transfer window isn't even open yet and then we have 3 months to buy players. Give us a chance, Christ.
And Dazz, you've just hated de Zeeuw since he "obstructed" your boyfriend Mutu by sheparding the ball out of play. If he is shit, slow and old, what does that say about your £16m cokehead boyfriend that was in his pocket for 90 minutes?</font>

Hibbert's been solid and consistent for pretty much the whole season, i haven't seen him play loads of times or anything but i really doubt he's that bad.

Topic for discussion.
Who thinks that in the Championship and lower leagues that the play-offs should be scrapped and the third place team should just get automatic promotion. I know it adds to the excitement but for example with this season Ipswich have been a better side than other teams in the play-offs so it's harsh on them on and their fans.
What do you lot think?

No
I think that the Playoff system is a good thing similar to the European places in the Premiership. Some teams are never going to get the chance to play in the Premiership, but if they can get 6th place, they have a chance, it gives everyone something to play for during the season. If it was the top 3, you'd have about 4 or 5 teams a season who have a chance, with the playoffs you have 10 or 11
Wengerland
05-19-2005, 07:07 AM
Nah, the play-offs are class. The top 3 in the championship were clear by about January, it would have been boring. The play-offs give reason for optimism to pretty much every club in the league as it's such an open division.

Spurs have agreed to sell Simon Davies to Everton for £4m, apparently Arteta is going to set them back about £2.8m on top of that. Bit surprised about Davies, on his day he can be great, only thing is he's highly injury prone.

well i can dream. we'd have to sort out:
our goalkeeper so he's consistently good,
buy a world class centre back (silvestre is good but not world class and we need competition there),
midfield needs a bit more depth (get rid of kleberson, replacement for keane to learn from him),
and get RVN back in form
and not have any crucial injuries and hope chelsea do.
i think hargreaves could possibly be a good buy as well as hes still fairly young and can learn from roy keane while hes still playing fairly well. hopefully, somehow, we'll be able to afford to buy a proven centre back like cannavaro that can really sort out our defence and mean that when rio isn't playing, we're not screwed.

Hargreaves is shit.
Darren Fletcher is Roy Keane's replacement. He's a brilliant player. There's not much wrong with Manchester United. They could do with getting rid of Saha, mainly because he's permanently injured, and getting another striker in, and another player who is comfortable out wide, because playing Rooney there is ridiculous.

i can't see fletcher flying in to tackles like keane does. im a big admirer of fletcher's, always have been, he'll be phenomenal in a few years, but he isn't a roy keane in the holding player ilk like everyone has these days.

Crazy I don't really care either way for Scottish football but it must be amazing to be a Rangers fan and gutting to be a Celtic one. You don't get a stronger rivalry in sport anywhere probably.
Okay, I've had over a day to calm down but I still can't believe Arsenal STOLE the FA Cup. Never seen such a one sided match where the dominating team didn't win. Until the Van Persie free kick, we were all wondering if Arsenal even bothered showing up.
To be fair, if you can't take a penalty then you don't deserve to win.
Dundee getting relegated sucked more. I walked out the Sports Cafe thinking if Man United lost then Dundee must have stayed up (I never get a double whammy weekend) and yet they were down. Had I gone home and found my girlfriend in bed with another bloke, I might have gone on a killing spree.
Delighted Celtic lost the title today though.
Yet again United were the better side against Arsenal. No doubting United should have won as Arsenal just didn't come to the races today and seemed almost to play for penalties. But i can't complain as United were outplayed by Munich and won it at the death so all's fair. Just hope both United and Arsenal take a good hard luck at themselves and work out where the goals are going to come from with RVN and henry not in form or not playing.
Sorry but after Bayern scored against us in Barcelona, we were all over them like stink on shit for 85 minutes.
Lol, Ronaldo doesn't take runners-up medals very well does he. Remember him at the Euro final last year. :D
Maybe he cried in Greece since he was the only Portuguese player to bother showing up for the championships.

lol I feel for you Rob there is no argument that you completely whored them for the entire match. If that was my team losing in the end I'd be pissed too. But as it was I was all too happy you lost ({) :p
If I was an Arsenal fan, I'd be embarrassed. 4 Arsenal fans sent me txts yesterday, one of which sent me about 10 txts the day we beat them at Old Trafford calling Rooney and Ronaldo every curse under the sun, saying we was robbed. Whatever though. We'll be back.

For all those making comparisons with Liverpool-Arsenal and United-Bayern, you need to remember that in both cases no matter who dominated and when, Liverpool and United turned it round with two moments that produced goals in normal play and a scoreline that read 2-1, beaten on goals.
Fact is, yesterday, Arsenal did nothing to win the game (apart from a free kick) in 120 mins of playing time, yeah they won it and congrats, but was pathetic really.

Some bloke put £20 on the following
Premiership: Chelsea 10/11
Champ'ship: Sunderland 15/2
League One: Luton 6/4
League Two: Yeovil 4/1
Scottish Prem: Rangers 3/1
Scottish One: Falkirk 1/2
Scottish Two: Brechin 15/8
Scottish Three: Gretna 2/7
Total odds of 4999-1 earning him winnings of £89,974.43.
I'd put a bet on next year but the Scottish lower divisions would be my stumbling point.
I am lazy so I can't be fucked to find out how many of them came through.
Regardless, next season I am sticking £10 on the following...
Chelsea to win the league
Chelsea to win the Champions League
Southampton to go up
West Ham to go up (as I think PNE will win the final)
Portsmouth to go down
Rangers to win the SPL
Not sure whether to also include Wisey being in charge of Leeds by Christmas, or do that seperatley, probably do it seperate.

That's because he was brilliant for Ireland but then a bit poor for Sunderland. He wasn't even that bad at Sunderland, but he's become a better player now. Obviously since he's 27 and coming into his peak.
