LOL c'mon. Glaus with a 2 run shot now
They are hitting the ball hard, Wells was the batter before and missed a home run by a foot or two.

Hmm, i'm not liking the Glaus and the Wells, but hey its early, plus Francisco Liriano is mowing down Cleveland last i looked, my fantasy score for tonight should be good:D
oh fuckin jesus christ, 7-3 :|

Pretty ridiculous, between Shawn Chacon, Kris Wilson and Sidney Ponson as our number 5 starter you'd think they could handle a couple innings. Obviously not the case though.
10-3 now.
OssMan
07-23-2006, 02:30 PM
lol Liriano 9 K's in 4 innings. Kazmir 10 in 5
Just walked Troy Glaus, 2 men on, Overbay will probably hit it 600 ft
Thank fuck he fanned Overbay:|

What happened to Liriano? He left after 5, i'm having to follow the games on mlb.com gameday so i've no idea whats actually happening there.

I think his pitch count was getting up there, in the 90's I believe.
95, still woulda thought they'd put him out for the 6th as well :\

Pelfrey was damn impressive the first few innings today, shame he fell apart.
Kinda had a bad feeling about today. Though seeing Delgado hit an absolute SHOT was awesome.
I can't wait to see the Aaron Heilman screwup on replay. For those who didn't see, there was a man on 3rd and 2 outs, routine grounder to Heilman, and for some reason he decided to nonchalantly jog to 1st instead of toss it to Delgado, and Burke beat him to the bag, run scores. :|
From what I hear, the ump blew the call but I dunno. Didn't get a real good view of the play at the stadium and they didn't show replays. Still, I can't forgive Heilman for putting himself in that situation anyway.
LOL at Beltre striking out after swinging at a pitch after it touched the ground.
7-7 game right now though
Great, the team with the best fielding pct. in baseball just made 2 errors in one play for Beltre to run all the way home. :nono:
I can understand Crisp misplaying where the ball was gonna hit the wall (even though he REALLY misplayed it) cause the sun was in his eyes, but then Manny picks it up barehanded and bobbles it. Had he not bobbled it we would have been able to at least hold Beltre at 3rd.

I'm glad Gardy took Liriano out today. I wasn't watching the game, but we've really got to be careful about over-using him. I was surprised that they left him in for 8.2 even though the Twins had like a 8-0 lead over the Devil Rays, but I guess the Twins have a pretty good history of knowing how to develop pitchers, so meh.

Awful deal for Chicago IMO. You don't trade an elite SP prospect for a slugger when you have the best offense in the league and pitching is your problem
I like the MacDougal deal though

I feel the same way actually. I really would hate to see BMac go.
Right, any website gunna give me baseball highlights that go back to last Thursday, I need to see my boys beating the Yankees.
Also, is www.mlb.com the best place to go for Baseball news or can someone point me to a better site. Anything but Sky Sports news, it only updated today for the Fri-Sun results.
Jesus Shuttlesworth
07-24-2006, 05:03 PM
I go to CBSSportsline.com a lot, but for all sports not just baseball. Probably a better baseball specific site out there I guess
Where do you watch coverage if you miss a game on TV. Bollocks to staying up till 5am Sunday with work the next day. There must be websites with loads of footage
The Miz
07-24-2006, 05:13 PM
Use ESPN, MLB, or CBSSportsline for game recaps and play by play. For footage, I dunno, if you go to the official Toronto website on MLB.com they'll have like a 45 second highlight clip for each game but other than that Ionno
The Miz
07-24-2006, 05:15 PM
White Sox get:
RP Mike MacDougal
Royals get:
RP Tyler Lumdsen (AA)
SP David Cortes (A)
Now a done deal. Love it for the White Sox. Don't know much about the two prospects, but I suspect the Royals could've done a little better. They have the right idea at least
Yeah I saw the clip on Torontos site but thats not nearly enough, I watched games for 4 1/2 hours, it cannot be compressed into 45 fucking seconds :(. Will try out those other sites for news though, cheers.

07-24-2006, 05:50 PM
Yeah I think it is kind of tough to get clips of full games and things like that since they actually want people to watch them on TV and not on the internet. I dunno if you can MLBTV over there? You pay a certain amount and you can watch any game going on on the internet, I'd assume they'd have replays that you could watch. I dunno if you can get it outside of the US though, but I don't see why not.
The Miz
07-24-2006, 06:00 PM
ou Yeah its available outside the US. So worth it if you're a huge baseball fan. $80 bucks for every single game the whole season. Seen like 93 Mariners games this year
I was gonna go for the MLBTV thing but having no money was spanner to my plans, may well go for it next year though as a graduation treat:D
I've found it harder to get hold of highlight clips this year, i think on mlb.com you need to subscribe to see most stuff now
55 quid eh, I'm guessing theres not much choice of what game you watch, you just get what your given yeah?
Also, any good sites to learn about how good players are, as I have no fucking idea right now, all I know is I likes what I've seen from the Blue Jays, probably don't know anyone outside of them to be honest.

Brandon Funston isn't the brightest guy but he has a list of the top 50 players in fantasy. The only problem is fantasy doesn't count things like defense, team chemistry and undervalues middle relief, but lists like that are a pretty good place to start for the best players out there today.
Can probably still join f antasy leagues on mlb.com actually

I really hate to nit pick this, since you just did it to be nice, but Julio has been their closer for 3 weeks. Luis Gonzalez has been the main bat in the Arizona lineup since at least 2000. I mean, since he got off roids he's terrible, but I feel he is really the face of the D'Backs.

Making a list like this is pretty impossible. Renteria is not a face of the Braves franchise. Not as much as Francouer, who is known around the league for swinging at every pitch ever and having one of the best throwing arms from the outfield. He's a Georgia boy too.

ettMy eyes are on Minny/Chicago this week. Minny could, with a sweep, tie Chicago for the WC. Didn't realize what a turn around they'd had
I am going to go out on a limb here, and predict the AL Central Final Standings as being
Detroit
Minnesota
Chicago
Cleveland (lol, definately the biggest team bust of the year)
Kansas City
Dragon
07-24-2006, 09:18 PM
Minnesota will be ridiculous to face in the playoffs, facing Santana and then Liriano could easily put a team down 0-2 in a series. I am hoping they don't make the playoffs lol, should probably worry about the Yankees making it first before who they might face.

Gonzo also made a spectacular play in the field again, this guy is nuts. I heard about him before he got here, but I didn't think he'd be THIS sick at defense. So much better than Edgar "somehow playing in the American League effects my defense" Renteria, Pretty sure Renteria blamed his problems on the infield at Fenway now that I think about it though lol

I hope Schilling plunks somebody tomorrow (or has a "momentarily lapse of control" as the Boston Globe will tell you) and Bradley just tries to kill him or something. Swisher did hit that homer last night but before that they showed a split of his stats, didn't realize he was on a huge slump the past month. That probably adds to the lack of lead in the AL West for the A's
Every division in the AL is a bit tough to predict this year, the same goes for the NL as well (well outside of the NL East)
Yeah i thought the Dodgers might've asserted themselves a bit more by now

Dodgers get:
RP Elmer Dessens
Royals get:
RP Odalis Pérez
SP Blake Johnson (A)
SP Julio Pimental (A)
Wow, I know the Dodgers hate Pérez but giving up decent prospects just to get rid of him is a bit much. Dessens isn't that much better than Pérez anyway. I love what the Royals are doing with these last two trades, trading their mediocre to below average talent off for good but not great prospects. With the exception of Joey Gathright deal I like what this new GM is doing. Certainly not something Allard Baird would have done.
Picking up Perez can't exactly hurt when you've been out of the race since late April to be fair! KC may aswell start trying to form a decent core in their team to build around, they won't attract any top talent as long as they're languishing in this eternal quagmire of theirs, and like you said having a decent GM has gotta put them atleast facing in the right direction

Gertner changes his view on stats to fit his argument. When he thought Chacin had a lower ERA than Blanton (which he didn't), the first thing he said in Chacin's favor was "Better ERA than Blanton". Since Blanton's ERA has been at least a full run lower, his argument became "Who cares what his ERA is as long as he wins?"
Although I'm sure there's a lot of pitchers who would really struggle to "win" when your team gives you 7.7 RPG like the Blue Jays do for Chacin (best in MLB). I know, I know, Chacin has just done such a great job of holding those slim leads Toronto gives him. He knows how to win.

Pedro, Glavine, and Trachsel simply aren't going anywhere. Maine has been brilliant and will stay in the rotation for now. Past that, its between Pelfrey and El Duque. El Duque's gonna stay on the staff no matter what (be it rotation or bullpen), so it's up to Pelfrey to keep his roster spot.
And if all else fails, you also have Darren Oliver or Aaron Heilman who could start if need be (though the Mets would probably bring up Jose Lima again sooner than use either of those guys as starts...which is horseshit but oh well)

Inter-league is what it is, baseball games against an opponent... If you have a losing record in inter-league play and are beaten out for a playoff or wild-card spot by one game to a team that you played better against in the division, well too bad. Then you should have done even better in your own division or in inter-league play.
I could say playing central or west coast teams isn't fair either (if you are a east div. team) because that same logic could be applied. Whereas you do poorer against those teams than your division rival, but you are better within you're own division than the team that beats you out for a playoff spot.

So why don't we let NCAA teams play against the AL East then? Or Jose Canseco's adult softball team? Let's let those games determine who makes the playoffs.
All the teams in the AL are competeing for the best record in the AL. If the Red Sox are 100-62, and the Rangers are 101-61, and the Rangers went 10-1 against the Dodgers and Padres while the Red Sox went 1-10 against the Nats and Phillies and the Rangers make the playoffs, that is the most retarded thing ever. There is no reason games teams competeing for something completely different under a different set of rules should determine who goes to the playoffs

Meche has been good this year because he's finally striking out guys. I don't think he ever even struck out 100 before this year, he's already at like 110 with 2+ months to go. I personally like the trade for the Brewers. Turnbow has been awful for about a month and lost his job as Brewers closer. Mench doesn't always play because apparently Showalter didn't like him, but has hit for power when he does play. I think the Rangers did only ok in this deal. I think (read:hope) they now go out and get Soriano in response. Put him in left and DH Garrett Anderson, not that Anderson even deserves that much, he's been terrible
But a top of the order that is Figgins Cabrera Soriano and Vlad

Wow Mike Stanton, looks like the Giants are trying to get younger. All they gave up was the 21 year old who pitched a no hitter in the WBC. Brian Sabean for president.

Yeah Red Sox are probably better off now without him, since they got Gonzo and he's been doing alright with the bat and playing Gold Glove D
Atleast he isn't a pussy like Renteria though, I really hate that guy now. He blamed all his troubles on everyone else, on the infeild, switching leagues, getting boo'd. Now that his back to a city where nobody cares about baseball he is tearing up, what a fag. Dude was making 10 mil a year to play baseball, I really don't get how guys can let boos effect them.

Apparently Zito's a Met just as long as the Mets will give up Milledge
I was saying I'd like to stay away from Zito, but if they are talking Milledge for Zito straight up, that might just be too good to pass up...provided Zito agrees to sign an extension. I really like Milledge...I don't wanna deal him if it's gonna be for a 3 month rental.

I don't believe Beane would do Milledge for ito straight up. He already turned down Heilman and Milledge. Pelfrey would have to be involved.
And you guys need an ace pitcher. Pedro and Glavine are not Pedro and Glavine 1997. Zito's ERA would be like .02 in the NL and I'm sure he'd resign because he loves Rick Peterson. You should also try to capitalize on Maine's fluke run, Maine was another Beane favorite a few years back.
The Miz
07-29-2006, 07:00 AM
Milledge is like the most overhyped prospect of all time. Like barely a top 10 guy, people just talk about him because he plays in NY. If he was on Oakland they wouldn't let him steal anyway so that's like half his value right there

The farm system is better than you think.
Mike Pelfrey AND Phil Humber will probably both be in next year's rotation...or at least compete over one spot in the spring (replacing Trachsel and then if Maine or Glavine aren't around the other one will get his slot)
I've heard some people project OF prospect Carlos Gomez AHEAD of Lastings Milledge. There's also Fernando Martinez who is supposed to be a monster as well. Granted both of those guys are a long way away from the big leagues, but I could live with Floyd and Nady another year.
We've also got a 1B prospect by the name of Mike Carp, who from what I gather has a swing eerily similar to David Wright. He's only 20 now, so in a few years he could very well be Delgado's replacement.
Its a shame for the Mets they don't have the old DH, perfect for a guy like Delgado at this stage of his career

Yeah Zito would be very good here if we don't make a deal for him and do sign him in the offseason, we have Zito and Milledge on our team. If we trade right now, we might not have either of them next season

Johnson has had like 7 of 8 quality starts before this game. He can't go too long without getting just pounded in a game. Last time he got crushed was against the Mets and then he rattled off some quality games though.
Chacon has been awful for quite some time so today wasn't a suprise. He got lucky last tme out getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs.
Mike Myers has pitched like 15 innings this year, hasn't pitched in more than 10 days or something before today too. I remember the reasoning to bring him here was to get Ortiz out when it was needed and earlier in the year the first time he faces Ortiz he gives up a homer lol.

Sal Fasano was just up and he hits a grounder to third and the third baseman bobbles a little but takes his time and throws him out. One of the YES announcers says the third baseman probably read a scouting report on Fasano to know that he doesn't run fast.
