1) I like how you point out THE ONLY TWO road wins the Celts got this year, ignoring the fact that they lost every road game to the HAWKS and the 1 man gang Cavaliers...so yeah, they CANT win for shit on the road...which leads to to....
Yeah I know, I pick the 2 road games, against the #2 team in the east, in the toughest place to play in the east as my saying "they can win on the road in the playoffs" silly me... Oh and call the cavs a 1man gang if you want, but if these Lakers played the way they did game 1 and 2 against the Cavs, it would be a close series.
2) For all intents and purpose, the Lakers shouldnt have won tonight. They played like shit, it just so happens, as stated earlier, the Celts cant seem to do it on the road. Sure, if the Lakers hit free throws, or if Gasol didnt look scared as shit everytime he touched the ball, theyd have a commanding lead the whole game, but there is no doubt the Celts choked on the road...again.
Huh, so the Celtics played like shit on the road and they "choked" but the Lakers played like shit at home and it's somehow expected?
Both teams shot like crap last night, if you're going to say one team chocked I'd say the one who was at home and almost went down 3-0.
3) The Celtics will contend, yes, but lets be real...with Bynum in the Lakers lineup, do you think this would be the series it is? C'mon, Perkins would get fould out and Bynum would put up 20-10 consistently, leaving Gasol and Odom available to kill. Lets say the Lakers DONT make it to the championship, no chance in hell the Celts would get passed the Spurs, or hell, the SUNS for that matter...both those teams have a bench to rival their starters.
so, the Lakers w/o Bynam beat the Spurs who beat the Suns and you're saying that if the Celtics win it all this year (beating the lakers) and return most of their team they couldn't beat the Suns or the Spurs next year? now you're just talking silly.
I haven't seen reffing this bad in a long time.
Since game 2 to be exact.
Look at Kobe's halftime interview. He's all like "We are playing the exact same as we did in game 2." He says this with a huge grin on his face. Probably because all the calls are going the other way now lol. It is like almost exact opposite of game 2 in terms of statistics or something, it is crazy.
and Kobe was wrong, the 1st half of last nights game it was like role reverasl, the Celtics were taking the jump shots and the Lakers were driving, hence they got the calls.
that was a really ugly game on both sides tonight.
no shit... as bad as the Celtics played and still had a chance to win...
and lol @ Doc Rivers. "I'm suprised Phil isn't complaining about the refs tonight"
Douchebag.
in fairness, the response was to a reporter asking for a comment on Phil saying that KG ran out of gas.
It was the only thing doc did or said all night I was happy with.
although, I can't wait for a Phil Jackson response...

Yeah, you had to of known that was gonna happen, though.
I really don't think the refs called it any different (until the last 5mins where they were just letting them play and either team could have stabbed someone and not gotten called).
The difference was the Celtics didn't play their game and drive to the hoop and the Lakers did.
While I didn't like the calls on Kobe (the first 2 in game 2) they were "by the book, legit".
the Lakers need to play the style they did last night for the rest of the series, people had off nights, that wont happen every game, if they play the same style and hit the shots that will be the key, flip side the Celtics need to go back to their game, driving the hoop.

I think Pau Gasol got demoralized when KG blocked his dunk attempt last night. After that moment he started playing extra soft, hopefully it carries over into game 4

Thats the most TV time Scalabrini and Tony Allen have seen all year. It was like there biggest task to date. People dont realize that. Scalabrini sacraficed his 70's prom suit to let Paul Pierce fake cry and sweat on him. Tony Allen cant even believe he's that close to touching Pierces genitals there. If that game wasnt on tv, Tony Allen would have made a Law And Order : SUV episode out of that moment.

Gotta miss game 4 :( Championship soccer game.
Here are some notes from today's practice...
Not great news for Boston point guard Rajon Rondo, who said he has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left ankle. He estimated he was 70 percent just now but said: “I’m sure I’ll play.”
Rondo (who only appears headless in this photo) also said: “It hurts a lot, but it’s not too painful.”
The Lakers worked out at Staples Center before the Celtics — putting extra emphasis on free throws. They finished up with more shooting drills — except a resting Kobe Bryant — and had no concerns about having won Game 3 ugly.
“My three rings have nothing about field-goal percentage on them,” Derek Fisher said. “They just say, ‘World Champions.’ “
http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2008/06/11/rondo-has-bone-bruise-lakers-work-on-shooting/
lol how did he go from 50% to 70% in less then 24hrs. Boston are just a bunch of glory seekers.

One major difference that will always separate KG from Kobe is how they play in crunch time, game 3 is proof of that, KG may be an amazing player but constantly chokes in the clutch.
Kobe under pressure?: 2 clutch jumpshots within the last couple mins. KG under pressure?: Constantly banging 20 foot jumpers off the rim.

Thats the most TV time Scalabrini and Tony Allen have seen all year.
Tony Allen is remembered for one thing this year, fouling Billups as he took a 3 pointer which allowed them to win.
As for Scalabrini, notice since Danny has been here there has always been a white guy wearing his old # that takes too many 3's... some people think he only keeps a 12th man on the team to use his number hoping to retire himself someday.
VonErichLives, get a hobby.
like, watching sports and talking about them in a sports forum to kill time?
or did you not know about the Pierce thing? a few years back he was stabbed multiple times at a night club and some teammates threw him into the back of an SUV and drove him to the nearest hospital (maybe 5mins away) the doctors said if they waited for an ambluence he would have bleed out.
A sweep would have been nice, but didn't see it happening, now just win one of these two and end it game 6 would be nice.
The Lakers NEED a win tonight!!
oh my! Lakers in attack mode!!!
21 point lead after the 1st?!?!?!?
I think Michelle Tefoya or whatever her name is, has a crush on Doc Rivers. All I hear from her is what Doc Rivers has to say.

You're a very emotionally eratic kid. You get all worked up over one loss, then do a 180 and start talking big about coming back strong, then its on top of the world, now you're giving up on your team. You were slamming me for thinking what has happened would happen and staying steadfast in my opinions based on facts, and constantly spazzing on shit. I bet you were calling it over earlier tonight.
Give yourself and your team some credit. Root for them, and don't count yourself out like that if you're the fan you claim to be.
You write them off, and you'll be the first in line to praise them. Same went with Kobe.
Of course, as we've seen, the Lakers are easily rattled and scattered. They're very easily defeated confidence wise. They get a scare, and they start self destructing, missing shots and getting all flustered. Vujacic is crying, hitting his teamates when they try to support him, Kobe's playing like shit a lot of times.
I'm following this series out, it's not over til it's over the Celts need to win a game still but I obviously feel very good. Given the Celts skill, momentum, and the defeated morale of the Lakers, I predict a Celts win on Sunday in LA, by 20 pts.

Kobe was proably one of the biggest reasons for that collapse btw. Lack of defense is number 1 though.
Kobe took some stupid shots in the 2nd half. He literary shot the Celtics back into the game.
Horrible performance by him.

Celtics D vs Lakers unpreparedness for our D as well as the matchups and depth of the Celtics were my primary reasons in my arguing with Mr. SamuelG.
Felt very confident about this series, and the Celts overall superiority. Still gotta root for one more win though
The dynamic of the big 3 is an amazing thing because one or even two of them can play atrocious and there's an ace in the hole to cover it up.
On the same note, the team has incredible depth. Big performances by Posey and House of all people tonight. They're a great and deep team and have been all season. Powe and Brown have been immense throughout the series as well.
Also keep in mind, Rondo and Perkins were taken out of the equation tonight and the bench still was able to step up.
Even though I am rooting for Boston I'd like for them to lose the next game and then take the series at home.

Wow. I dunno what to say but wow. Honestly as much as i hate Celtic 'fans' this year who wouldnt raise their hand last year or tell you who was on the roster 4 years ago without googling it....as much as i hate 'bandwagon' players like PJ Brown and Sam Cassell who all of a sudden sign with the Celts or come out of retirement to join the bandwagon, i dont like where this is going.
The Lakers are young, and they let it slip by them because they simply did not play defense once they took that commanding lead. Thats all there is to it, and the Celts got the win by just keeping on and chipping away. Kudos to them, i give props where deserved.
Im still on the high of the Lakers being in the finals. Honestly, to me that was a perk because i thought they would truly contend NEXT year with Bynum, but a title this year would be nice. Still, as a Laker fan im irritated as fuck, but as a BASKETBALL fan, this series has been a pretty good one.

I can tell you all about past Celtic teams without any internet aid. I proudly can boast that I attended 4 games this season, and 5 in the atrocious season before it, as well as years before. I must admit, most of the time during their shittier seasons I would only catch the game when I had nothing better to do or had the chance. I followed them though, and was mad into it when they were good enough to compete moderately far into the playoffs circa 2003.
Of course, my father covered the Celtics in the 80s as a sports writer, and I have been a fan of Boston sports for life. I attened the 86 finals as an infant, and Larry Bird has been in my living room. So it's kinda in my blood. I have every right to ham it up right now.
You can't really blame fans for turning out to support a turned around team, in any city, and not supporting them when they're in last place tho. That's why improvements are made and it's the managements job to put good teams out there. If the fans got invested as much and turned out the same regardless of performance and wins/losses, there'd be no reason for the team to put a quality squad on the court other than on principle, which I'm sure would be lacking in today's world.

yeah, I remember a 3-0 comeback in 2004... :D
anything is possible, I'd be shocked if this LA team did it, they're just not physical enough and Kobe can't do it all on his own.
I agree with Sammy, Bynam will be a big help next year, they need a physical player.
as for "bandwaggon fans" every team has that, or fans that don't follow closely or spend the money to go to games when the team isn't doing well.
as for "band waggon players", mid-season moves or players up in age taking discounts to "try and win one" before they retire is nothing new... didn't Karl Malone try that going to the Lakers for a year? Heck, the Patriots get those type of players almost every year.
I gotta give a lot of credit to Ray Allen, he went from being the "Washed up old guy" to playing all 48mins and one of the "big 3" again.
Also, I'll do my best never to say the Celtics win "in spite of Doc Rivers" again, he's out coaching the "Zen Master" this series. I forgot who it was one of the guys after the game (maybe wilbon) "I've never seen the Triangle offense shut down like that".
Going to the lineup with KG as the only "big man", putting House at point instead of Cassell, heck they even confused the Lakers going to a 2-3 zone at one point.
it's not over, anything is possible, but needing 1 win out of 3 games with 2 in a row at home... I like out chances...

The previous game was similar. Lakers had the lead and then in the 4th quarter Boston started coming back. Then in the next game they used up most of their energy in the first quarter and couldn't shut out Boston in the end. And you can't forget about PJ Brown's dunk over Kobe and Ray Allen's wide open lay-up. That pretty much demoralized the Laker team and the fans. It's just like that one game, maybe game 4, when Spurs faced the Lakers and Spurs were ahead in the beginning and then they couldn't shut out the Lakers.

the Kobe trade talk...
Think if Kobe puts up 60 in game 5 and they don't win he demands a trade again? I mean, where would he go that would give him a better chance then LA that would have the ammo to get him? I think he's in the right place and with Bynam next year they're back in the finals, he'll give them the physical player they need.
SammyG

Yeah, next year with Bynum, I have amazing championship hopes. Gonna be Lakes Celts again next year, this is gonna be just like the 80's, meeting in the finals all the time. Next year, provided we are healthy, will be our best shot. People don't understand how good Bynum was before he went out. All we seriously had to do is throw it up anywhere NEAR the rim and Bynum would dunk it down. This also means Pau would go back to his natural position, the PF. Plus, we'll have Pau for the whole year next year. I think 60-65 wins is a possibility for that team next year.

Kobe Bryant = Jack Bauer of the NBA
If you have Kobe Bryant, you can come back from anything or any circumstance. If it were any other player in the league ( ANY no arguments ). I'd say the series is done. But because they have Kobe, its not. Kobe is a flat out killer. He'll most likely drop 45+ tonight. And i dont trust the Celtics to close a series out like they should. Not after the Atlanta series.
But i've been wrong before. I think this series goes 7 still. No Kobe, and it would end tonight.

So Kobe Bryant is an average player then? He's not clutch anymore? He cant carry a team? What are you saying? They got outplayed. They couldnt make shots and couldnt make stops. He may not be Jordan, but he's the best player in the league by far and he's one of maybe 5 players that will rip a teams heart out no matter what the circumstance. It was just a bad game. Its happend to other teams before. Leads get blown. Teams like the Celtics step up and make huge runs. The NBA is about long scoring runs. It always has been. Sick game, as an bystander in this, I have favored the Lakers more in this series, but they make me fucking angry.
Their problem is that for as individually talented as each of their players are (probably the most individually talented team in the league), they really fall apart as a team once they hit a comfort zone. They don't have a "coast" mode as a team. They have a "holy shit, we're incredible" mode and a "we're lazy sacks of shit" mode.

I dont think the Lakers deserve this championship. I feel we are the future, and will have a nice title run, and at least one in the next couple years...but these finals, i dont think we deserve it.
I dont think PJ Brown deserves it. Dude retires then unretires 6 weeks prior to the playoffs?
I think if the Celts win this title, Ray Allen should be MVP. Ive always been a Ray Ray mark, going back to when he was drafted to the Bucks (i hoped we drafted him honestly, but we ended up taking this guy named Kobe Bryant from the Hornets that year, so i guess that works out).

Lamar Odom played out of his mind, and Gasol had a great game. I attribute these two things to KG being in foul trouble, and Kendrick Perkins being injured. There is no way you are going too see Lamar Odom playing that well in game 6. I know it's Kendrick Perkins, but if he plays then Boston is going to win game 6.
KG is going to play better at home, and I don't think he is going to in foul trouble again.
No one on the Lakers can stop Paul Pierce aside from Kobe, but Kobe is too important on offense to cover him for all game. So Pierce is probably going to have another big game.
Also Gasol is just totally lost on the Pick n rolls. He got beat everytime.
So if you get KG and Pierce having good games, and then if Ray Allen just does what he did tonight then the Lakers don't stand a chance.

I thought it was funny the Celtics were favored by 6 in this game.
The Kobe steal at the end was a big risk, in fairness he hit the ball before he touched pierces side (looked more like just jersey) I was ok with that non-call... there was some other stuff, but with the whole nba reffing crap I think everyone is over analizing every call/non-call...
I expected more from LA tonight, I thought they'd just take the Celtics to town all night, especially with all the early foul trouble for the C's.
Gasoft actually got a set of balls tonight, didn't always use them, but at times I was impressed.
someone offered me 10x face value for my game 6 tickets after game 4, and said if there wasn't a game six they wouldn't ask for money back.
I didn't do it, I'm happy, something like this could be a once in a lifetime thing.
I'll be there Tuesday night and hopefully it's all over then.
as for mvp if the Celtics win, all the talk around here has been Ray Allen or Pierce, Allen deserves it more this series, not just the offense but the D he's played on Kobe, but Pierce has been a beast also and sometimes track record gets it and Allen didn't show up until 1/2 way through detroit.
Pierce will probably get it if Celtics win unless Allen does something amazing in the last game. Even if it is a toss up between them I think Pierce will get it because he's been a Celtic for a long time and is the Captain/Leader.

Celts really need Perk back, after looking dominate on the glass for the first 4 games of this series they where lacking on rebounds - especially defensive rebounds - and allowing the Lakers a lot of 2nd shot opportunities. Really hope the Celtics take care of this shit in the next game though, going to game 7 is way too dangerous.

And before anyone says anything I am not sure how dominate they have been number wise on the glass, it could be a lot closer than it seems to me. But tonight it just seemed like they where was a lot more tip ins and shit like that, plus Gasol actually looked like a low post player.

shittyass game by the lakers, but considering they won, it doesn't say much about boston ether.
If the lakers pull a miracle out of their ass and steal game 6, boston better be worried
I cant watch the NBA anymore. These series are a joke and they're fixed to go the distance. I'm sorry. They just are. In the first two games the Celts were getting all the calls. I mean, they were getting everything called there way. Then Game 3 comes and Kobe is practically driving everytime he gets the ball, not even trying to make a basket, just jumping and throwing his arms in the air while looking at the ref and they call the foul everytime. I truely believe what that dirty ref is saying about playoff series being fixed to go to 7 games. Last night the Celtics, specifically KG werent getting any calls. It was unreal. KG got absolute hacked atleast 6 times that i counted and nothing was called and then they would call an absolute ticky tack foul on the Celts at the other end. I've never seen anything like this. Its been this way in more then one series this year. I have no horse in this series, i'm not rooting against or for the Celts or the Lakers. Its so obvious to me though. And its like the elephant in the room type deal. No one wants to actually say it on TV. But its there. I fully expect this series to go 7 games because of this.
Luke Walton was a beast last night. Did you see him pick up that 5th team foul defending pierce at half court for no good reason whatsoever....

shit, I remember when plays like that were common in the NBA, no one cared about "going for the ball" you had teams like Detroit who would say "We're not going to allow a layup this game, if they're going to beat us, it will be jum shorts outide the paint"
heck, Celtics/lakers of the 80's same type of stuff...
They used to say Jordan wouldn't have been Jordan back in the 50's-60's cause he would have made 1 free throw line leaping dunk and then the next time Russell or Chamberlin would have knocked him into the cheap seats.

LOL. You are an idiot.
I guess the NBA should regress to the ways of the 50's and 60's. There is a difference between a good hard foul, and a flagrant. Clotheslining someone in mid-air is just dirty, and cheap.
Pretty sure Basketball isn't a full contact sport. VEL is a bitch, so can someone quote this post for me.

not really the point, though. the numbers would be different if calls were actually being made. just because the teams shoot the same amount of free throws doesn't mean that one team wasn't screwed. not saying that's what happened, but there were some definite missed calls last night.

That first foul by Posey on Deng was pretty rough but that announcer needs to chill out, the second one they showed wasn't ALL that bad.
Also I agree with WeX, I hate how people always just looks at s the numbers to decided whether or not a team got breaks or not. I mean why can't one team commit like 10 more fouls than the other team? That seems pretty reasonable to me.
Not really gonna complain about the refs though, that was a tough call at the end. I thought Pierce just dribbled it off his thigh, didn't even realize Kobe hit him until I saw the replay.
Also totally unrelated but I guess Bill Walker from Kansas State is staying in the draft even though he hurt his knee in work outs. Really want this guy to fall to the Celtics and have them pick him up

Phil Jackson:
Chris Mihm made a surprise appearance and played almost three minutes in the second quarter, while Trevor Ariza and Ronny Turiaf didn't even total three minutes of playing time. "We tried some different faces out there to see what we could do, but we're not going to stay with that," Jackson said. "We won't be comfortable with that" tonight.
