Hey Ninti, how's his FT shooting with 7.9 in the 4th going for the Spurs?

SammyG

How the hell did we win that, amazing. SO HAPPY. Down 20 to the defending champs and we win. Huge confidence booster. LO and Fish were non-existant today, but Farmar played alright, Radman had a big first quarter, and Mamba was Mamba in the 2nd half. Sasha Vujacic played amazing D on Manu, and did ok on offense.

LAKE SHOW

Ninti the Mad
05-22-2008, 01:38 AM
Wow.

So the refs let them play the first half of the game and then its like "oh shit the Lakers are getting owned lets start making biased calls towards the end".

Horrible officiating. Especially the last two plays. First, it's miraclously out of bounds off Duncan when you can clearly see a Laker swapped it. Then the non-call when the guy basically pushed Ginobili so he couldnt reach the ball.

This is why I hate playing the David Stern Lakers.

SammyG
05-22-2008, 01:50 AM
Are you fucking kidding me, you idiot. You're gonna blame the refs? There were maybe 1-2 calls that went our way, but you blew a TWENTY POINT LEAD. That is ALL on the Spurs. Can not believe you are blaming the refs for your loss, that is pathetic.

Ninti the Mad
05-22-2008, 02:03 AM
Its true.

Its all good though. Spurs usually get pissed off at that kind of stuff. They better bounce back harder.

SammyG
05-22-2008, 02:16 AM
... you blew a 20 point lead. and you're blaming the refs. Why don't you blame Pop for the stupid rotations, and taking Bowen off of Kobe for like 10 minutes? Why don't you blame Manu for being terrible?

Ninti the Mad
05-22-2008, 03:09 AM
You dont see how the refs impacted the game cuz it went your way.

I saw everytime the Spurs got momentum going again... 3 second violation or some ticky tack foul. I dont like that shit. It bugs the shit out of me.

You dont know how it is to be a fan of a 'small market' team that has won 4 championchips in less than a decade, current defending champions, and with multiple all-stars and STILL doesnt get respect. The only way the Spurs counter that bullshit is by playing 200%.

I wish basketball was like it was in the 80's where there were less bullshit calls. Let them play like men.

I dont really have a dog in this Detroit vs Boston match. My favorite player in the series is Pierce by far. But i kinda want to root against Boston because Ray Allen is really pissing me off. Its like that guy ages a year every single game. He needs to be benched. Get rid of that 3 for 10 shooting every night and get someone like House in the game. I kinda think Boston goes 2-0 tonight though. Billups being injured is huge.

I didnt watch the game but saw the Spurs had a 20 pt lead and I thought it was def over and suprised to hear the Lakers won. I did hear from a Spurs fan friend of mine and a Lakers fan friend of mine that they felt that the refs were biased against them lol. My Spurs friend said Kobes one of the biggest whiners out there and my Lakers friend said it is Ginobli and that Duncans a big nerd.

You realize Ginobili plays for the Spurs right?

Even if the Lakers did get some calls, personally I thought it was pretty even from what I watched as an unbiased fan, there is no excuse for giving up a 20 point lead.

I kinda overreacted a bit yesterday. I had a bad migraine for two days and was just frustrated.

Spurs better come out strong. When they take Kobe out, I feel they should also take out Duncan. I thought he did good in altering alot of shots of Kobe.

Also, they need to put Ginobili on the bench for this series and start Finley.

Also, GIVE BRENT BARRY SOME MINUTES. That guy is the man.

Celtics HAVE to win on the road now. I think they can do it but playing in Detroit is tough. It depends on if they get the hungry Detroit team they took advantage and took apart the Lakers 4-1 in the 04 Finals or the choking Pistons team that blows 2-0 series leads in the Conf Finals and loses the series.

they'll take a game in detroit, my biggest concern in this series was Detroits defense when the Celtics shooters are tired, but last night the Celtics put up 97 points on Detroit.

Detroit lets then do that in Detroit and they'll steal a game.

I know, "Celtics haven't won on the road in the playoffs yet", they haven't needed to in all honesty, now they do. Also, Detroit has already dropped a home playoff game so it's not like they were undefeated at home like the Celtics were.

still think it goes 7, nothing I saw last night changes that.

I'm not sure why I want them to win more, because I'm a C's fan or to see IC head explode

Oh, excuses. They were outplayed most of the game, they made it close near the end. Detriot has now won a road game in each of it's series, where as Boston hasn't won any. And it's not like Boston is blowing there competetion away at home either. If I'm a Boston fan I pray to god that they can somehow steal a game in Detriot, but they couldn't do it in Atlanta who's crowd during the regular season was never more than 10,000. And While Boston scored alot of points so did Deriot and they obviously scored more.

1) What excuses? where in what I said (see below) did I make an excuse? You keep pointing out the Celtics haven't won on the road, and I'm just pointing out thet Detroit has lost at home in the playoffs.

Detroit made some great adjustments for game 2, will Boston then adjust for game 3? dunno, I admit not having a lot of faith in Doc.

2) I love how you rant out the playoff being different then the regular season then continue to pull things from the regular season to make you're point. As you would say "Atlantas attendence was regular season, which the playoffs are much different"

and until last night the Celtics played lock-down D at home, some anything is possible.

What's funny about Allen that had a stat that the like 5 games he's scored the most in this season they're 1-4.

The fouls hurt him and pierce, the pic and rolls they ran on him and Pierce all night was great strategy, I admit I have little faith in Doc to "adjust" on things he saw in game #2, but I guess we'll know tomorow night.

LOL, that is called a strawman. I guess mentioning Atlanta's attendence and lack of homecourt advantage wasn't relevant. I guess everything that happens in the regular season isn't relevant. Odom is playing just "Terrble" to quote Charles Barkley. He is missing open lay ups, and having he ball stolen from behind. I also think he handles the ball to much for a big, even with good hands. He needs to get the board, and than pass it to Kobe or Fisher, not try to being a 6'11 PG.

SammyG

Odom usually converts those shots he is missing today, also his FTs are terrible today. He and Pau need to kinda wake up, Pau started off strong but has done nothing in the 2nd quarter. Look for Kobe to go to work in the 2nd half.

That's what I do. VEL why do you feel the need to make shit up? I guess not liking Boston to win it all means I erase brackets. I guess having the Lakers winning it all from the beginning is me erasing brackets.

Boston is over-rated, get over it. Your fucking retarded, I'm sorry. Your still on the second round, fucking get over it. You were right for once in your lifetime, it felt good didn't it? I know it did, now it's time to let it go. I'm sure there is a small chance that somewhere down the road again, you could be right again.

No, actually you're the one who keeps making be bring up round 2, everytime you throw insults and name calling at me, I laugh... I mean, I'm "fucking retarded" and other stuff, yet I'm the one who has been right and you've been wrong. I guess if throwing insults somehow makes you feel better, do what you need to do.

And yes, if you had Cleveland over Boston then in the next round you would have had Detroit vs. Cleveland, otherwise yes, you're re-setting the bracket, I can't understand with as knowledgeable and intelligent as you think you are you don't get that.

As for my predictions, I'm actually pretty accurate, but I also don't make predictions for everything, only when I feel very confident, last thing I was wrong about, Pats v. Giants super bowl

I haven't said "no way Detroit wins this series" but I did pick the Celtics in 7, my reasons are simple, Detroit doesn't have an "explosive" player, they play the same game as Boston and their best player is playing injured. Again, had Detroit taken this in 6, I wouldn't have been shocked, now if Cleveland had beat Boston in 7 I would have been shocked.

So yeah, you were wrong on Cleveland, you were wrong on the Celtics not winning in Detroit. Yet, you claim I don't know what I'm talking about... rather funny...

Also, explain how can the Celtics be "over-rated" they were the best team in the NBA in the regular season, they have a 2-1 lead in the eastern conference series and home court advantage, so it seems to me they're living up to expectations, not "over-rated", if they got knocked out by Atlanta or Cleveland that’s one thing, but being in the conference finals it’s rather difficult to be “over-rated”

I still think it goes 7, unless Billups doesn't play, I'd be shocked for Detroit to drop 2 games at home.

Phil trying to light a fire under Pau Gasol's Spanish ass??

Which brings us to Gasol, about whom the Lakers are still learning. It's not four months since the trade, and Gasol is without question a skilled 7-footer — yet there have been some indications why Gasol was 0-12 in the playoffs with Memphis.

This is what Reggie Evans said after a November 2004 game in which he tussled with Gasol: "I don't know what's wrong with that girl."

Jackson on Sunday night again railed on Gasol about not stepping into shots with tenacity or sureness. And just as he did after Gasol's light Game 2 effort — when Jackson said Gasol was "weenie-ing it up there instead of shooting the ball like he meant it" — Jackson went public Monday with his concerns.

Asked about his behind-the-scenes commentary Sunday night, Jackson acknowledged: "It had a 'weenie' kind of atmosphere in it."

Never fearful of applying public pressure to his players, Jackson is using this postseason to play Whac-a-Mole in pushing Gasol's buttons. It is certainly not the first time Jackson has urged Gasol to be more purposeful instead of distracted by contact or referees.

"Make sure you're aggressive and intense the whole time," Gasol said about what he has been hearing and thinking. "Don't give any easy rebounds or give up on any easy offensive rebounds. Just put a body on him (Tim Duncan). Make him work. Wear him down a little bit."

Gasol entered Game 3 against the Spurs averaging 19.1 points on 56.1 percent shooting, 8.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in the postseason. In Game 3, he had 15 points on 38.9 percent shooting, five rebounds and one assist. In the Lakers' poor second quarter, Gasol didn't have a point, rebound or assist.

"A little bit indecisive," Gasol said of his play. "Not aggressive enough at the time of finishing. I didn't finish strong enough. I was just kind of floating a few shots, and they weren't going in. With my length and my athletic ability, I can finish those easy passes that I got."

A victory in Game 4 would not finish the Spurs but would be close. The Lakers would lead, 3-1, with two games at Staples Center in hand en route to the NBA Finals.

Gasol was asked about the power of that potential position. He considered it and said: "It's a thought you would like to keep in mind. It's a thought that would give you a lot of motivation to be able to push through anything."

Lamar:

"I put this one on myself," Lamar Odom announces. "I take the blame, totally, for this game."

The Lakers had just lost Sunday to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals, a 103-84 whipping that doubled as a three-hour embarrassment for their powerless power forward.

Who calmly wipes the sweat from his bald head and keeps the heat on.

"There is no way I can play like that," he says. "I've got to play better than that."

A TV network asks him for a live interview, and he says sure.

"You were two for 11," the interviewer says.

"I also had five turnovers," he says.

A writer asks him whether he can describe what happened, and he says of course.

"I got to the free-throw line and didn't make free throws. . . . [I] turned the ball over," he says. "That's not good enough. Especially on the road with this type of atmosphere, this type of intensity."

Another writer asks whether he can talk about what happens next, and he says certainly.

"I don't sleep tonight," Odom says. "I keep the TV off. I don't read the newspaper. I get out to practice tomorrow and get my butt to the free-throw line."

I'm glad he's motivated for game 4 now and all, but I don't think he deserves all the blame for that loss. :(

you could say the same about Boston though for the games they won.

as I said all along, these two teams are very evenly matched and then factor in Billups injury.

so, it's now best 2 out of 3, with 2 of them in Boston.

Anyways, funny how someone who so often will call someone else names, to turn around and point it out when someone does it to them.

I guess because Cleveland lost, there are no eastern finals. I guess I can't watch, or pick a winner. I mean your logic is that because Cleveland lost, so I can't have Detriot to win, is retarded.

I mean, how can I not pick Detriot, because Boston has struggled and fought to get passed a shitty 8th seed, than in the last 2 minutes of game 7 beat Cleveland. I mean, this isn't a team dominating it's oppenants. THEY HAVE STRUGGLED AT TIMES VERY BADLY! I can expect that from an 8th seed, because no one expect an 8th seed to win, but Boston was the best team in the league who releys on 3 players, 2 of which have been absent at times.

Alot of expiring contracts end this year so it would be a good time to rebuild the roleplayers.

It was definitely a foul. Even Phil Jackson admitted that Fisher bumped Barry. The problem is that Barry didn't jump into him to sell it and make it really obvious plus the refs don't want the outcome of the game to rely on their call. The Spurs aren't crying about it so everyone can just move on.

In all levels of basketball (NBA, college, pro) I have seen that exact situation been called at the end or no called. It happened in the 2005 Elite 8 game between UK and Michigan St when UK's Patrick Sparks hit that 3 with the CRAZY roll to send it in OT and he was CLEARLY fouled but they didnt call it. Ironically earlier that seasonSparks got fouled with a second left in a close game on the road against Louisville while attempting a shot and they called it and it gave UK the victory. I seen it callled in a big high school game in my area too and it made the home crowd LIVID when it was called because it cost the home team the game. I am neutral in the series and would have called it a foul but understand the refs situation on not wanting to decide a key playoff game over a foul/no foul call.

NEW YORK - The NBA acknowledged Wednesday that a foul should have been called on the final possession of Game 4 in the Western Conference finals, which would have given the San Antonio Spurs a chance to even the series.

Trailing 93-91 on Tuesday night, the Spurs inbounded the ball with 2.1 seconds left to Brent Barry, who was bumped by Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher on the floor. No foul was called, and Barry missed badly on a 3-pointer before time expired.

Spurs players and coach Gregg Popovich said a foul should not have been called, but the NBA disagreed with them after reviewing the play.

"With the benefit of instant replay, it appears a foul should have been called," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said.

Had that happened, Barry would have gone to the line for two free throws and a chance to tie the game. Instead, the defending champion Spurs trail the series 3-1 and face elimination Thursday in Los Angeles.

Aw... boo hoo hoo. Meh. Yeah I would be pissed if I was a Spurs fan, but you can't expect that foul to be called in that game in that situation, seriously. Barry shoulda just stayed put, and he woulda got the foul. He moved away from it and threw up a wild shot.

Also, LC, It woulda been on the ground, so it woulda been 2 free throws.

Aw... boo hoo hoo.

Actually yes you can. The same exact foul was called in the Knicks vs Pacers playoff series in 99.

Accept that was a pretty horrible foul call and continuation call, but hey as long as the Knicks get to the finals i guess.

Detroit played horrible in the 4th quarter. Joe D has to get rid of Rasheed. Rasheed for sure though. I'm sick of him complaining, taking costly fouls, getting costly technicals. Also, I will not be surprised if Saunders is fired.

they're like 2-9 on the road or something in the playoffs ( when it counts ). Thats really pathetic for a #1 overall seeded team in the playoffs. Even more pathetic that they were playing East talent. So i wouldnt be tooting your horn so fast.

Who the hell is gunna guard Lamar Odom in this series. I mean, if Odom has his way like he should, the Lakers should win this in 5. I think the Lakers have beaten 2 teams that are better then the Celtics imo, Spurs and Utah.

The Celtics have a major IT factor. When they've had to absolutley win a game, they've done it. Lakers havent " absolutley had to win a game " at all this year in the playoffs. Everytime i've thought the Celts wont win, or shouldnt win, or cant win, they win. They've dug deep and gotten it done. Thats a major factor for championship caliber squads imo.

But Kobe > everyone at this point. I'm not taking anyone over Kobe this time. I'm thinking Lakers in 6.

for the most part no argument there.

I'm picking the Celtics in 7, but I'm not betting on it.

I think Lakers in 6 would be reasonable.

Pierce is going to probably be on Kobe all day, so that does leave Odom, no I'm not sure who they will put on him, my guess is 2-3 people rotatiing.

That being said, they are the best team in the East, they won in Dertoit twice which is a very difficult place to play, What means more? winning in Atlanta in round 1, or winning in Detroit 2x in the ECF? they did beat the Lakers twice in the regular season.

I don't agree the Spurs or Jazz are better then the Celtics, I'd say the Lakers are a better team right now, but in 7 games who knows...

most of all, I'm just happy I wont have to listen to "mason" and the worst introductions in the league and of course no stupid steam whistle either!

What an amazing NBA Finals. God, so different from last year's bullshit with the Cavs and the Spurs. This really is a dream matchup, it's amazing for the fans and the NBA. Celtics scare me, I admit it. Perkins on Gasol terrifies me, and I really don't know how we are gonna guard them. Rondo-Fisher, Allen-Kobe, Pierce-Radmanovic (and Kobe)- Garnett-Odom, and Perkins-Gasol I guess... Radmanovic's length might bother Allen, maybe, I don't know, maybe we can put Kobe on Pierce the whole time. This is going to be so good. If we can steal one of the first two in Boston, we can definitely win all 3 on our homecourt....

Prediction wise... I'm gonna go with the Lake show in 6.

if the Celtics drop one in Boston they could be screwed because don't forget this is 2-3-2 not 2-2-1-1-1.

as for the intro, I like it because it's not over the top, however the sparkler display you can feel the heat and you'll see spots for a min.

The old intro had a bunch of classic celtics stuff, "Havlicheck stole the ball" and "There's a steal by bird".

I almost 1/2 expect them to work the McHale clothesline of Rambis into the intros for the finals.

I just think Detroit and "mason" are way over the top and annoy the crap out of me.

The first team I remember doing the lights out music and everything was the bulls back in the day.

Heck, the Celtics waited till Aurbach was dead to bring in full-time cheerleaders "Celtics Dancers".

LOL at VEl saying the Celtics are better than the Spurs. I guess he didn't realize that Boston played scrubs all year like Philly, Toronto, Orlando, Washington, Atlanta, Charlotte etc.

While the west is arguably the toughest conferernce in all of sports, and possibly ever in basketball.

Celtics have gotten it done when it matters, but they've also lost games they had no business losing. Lakers have beatin 3 good teams to get to where they are, and had their way with all three teams more or less.

Not only are the Lakers better, but they haven't played 2 seven game series and than a 6 game one, so the Lakers will be the better rested team.

I just don't see how Boston can stop Kobe, and if they double team, Odom, Gasol, Fisher, will burn them all night. And even if they do play him man up, like RP said, who guards Odom? Perkins isn't quick enough, PJ Brown is to old, Garnett will have to play Gasol. Odom should be able to have his way in this series.

It's good to see Lakers/Celtics and it will be even better to see Lakers take it in 6.

Also, the 2, 3 , 2 format is retarded.

Lakers are the best team in the NBA, most wins or not. I'm putting 100 dollars on this series, and I'm not worried on bit that Boston will win.

They had trouble beating LeBron, Kobe who in my opinion is better than LeBron has guys like Odom, Gasol, and Fisher who can all score and makes plays. Cavs didnt have anyone but LeBron.

Garnett, Allen and Pierce need to show up for everygame or it won't even be close.

Celtics had a much easier road than the Lakers to the finals, yet had the tougher time to get there, which is why I've had the Lakers to win since day one, and why I still have them.

aren't the lakers like -165 on the money line for the series meaning you'd have to bet 165 to win 100, so betting 100 wins you like 60 bucks... which seems silly to bet to win less then you're betting...

the thing is, Kobe is a better player then James, but James is so much more physical, I think Pierce will be less tired gaurding Kobe then he was on James.

but we shall see...... I haven't been wrong yet with the Celtics... feel the least confident in this one then I did the others.

Celtics in 7.

I think Boston will make it tough, because of how badly guys like Garnett and Pierce want it, but nobody wants it more than Kobe. This is Kobe back in the finals for the first time without Shaq. He's gonna be the difference and why the Lakers will win. Lakers also have a deeper bench, and more talented bench.
