If it was something like GTA IV where the map was no big deal, I'd not have minded. With the way the map is being hyped up for GTA V and the way they seem to really want us to explore as much as we can, now knowing that a certain patch or corner of the map has a bunch of things in it, another area is empty and so on, does kill a little of the fun of going out and finding stuff out and seeing new things.

I'm not massively upset or anything. It's just more of a "Damn, I wish I hadn't seen that." type of thing.

As long as the story is left unspoiled, I should be good in the long run.

I would just assume that at nearly every area there's something to do or see in a GTA map. And I doubt the map above is giving away the experience of what you'll find. Maybe I just don't understand.

I have trouble imagining there will be any dead spots in this game, so yeah.

Drakul there is no way you can tell what those lines mean without looking at it for longer than 10 seconds. And if you're looking at it for longer than 10 seconds trying to ascertain what the lines mean, then that's on your dumbass.

Those lines can mean absolutely anything. Red lines might mean safehouses. They might mean garages. They might mean anything. THEY MIGHT MEAN FUCKING NOTHING. Those lines could have been added by some schmuck after originaly seeing the leaked map and put in at random. NO ONE KNOWS.

If you looked at that longer than 10 seconds and you're now mad that something has been spoiled then you're the idiot.

I was just about to commend everyone in here too at some point this week. This thread has come a long way. From D-Mac creating an imposter thread to DS making the official one and then some jerk moderator merging the two destroying what should rightfully be DS's. From Kane Knight posting his stupid posts to bickering about the release date to people posting voiceover imdb resumes. This thread has seen a lot. It's been through a lot of ups and downs. A real rollercoaster.

I've pre-ordered (for X-box 360), as I've loved GTA since the start (but played GTA 4 for all of about 5 mins, going bowling put me off it and I'd got Fallout 3 at the same time) but I'm prepared for it to be a disappointing experience like Red Dead Redemption. I've not read any of the build-up to it so I don't find myself getting annoyed by too many of the stupid gimmicks they've brought it in to make the world as big and as realistic as possible.

GTA V sounds like it's more like San Andreas and it addresses a lot of the problems people had with GTA IV. So, if you liked SA, you'll probably be fine in GTA V, if previews etc are anything to go by.

- The aim of GTA Online is to do whatever it takes to get more money in the bank and accrue assets such as cars and real estate.
- Almost all activities from the campaign are available in GTA online: "heists, missions, robberies, assaulting gang hideouts, hijacking armored vehicles, races" as well as "tennis, golf and base jumping."
- GTA Online has been created to be "as customisable as possible" in terms of who you play with: "there are options to let the game decide who to play with... or you can hand pick every player in the game".
- Purchases can still be made using the money even if it's in the bank.
- Each house you pruchase has space for storing cars. Modest appartments have space for two, but high-end homes can store ten.
- Garage areas can be treated like showrooms. You can walk around and admire your cars and hire a mechanic to keep them in good condition. You can also insure them to avoid big payouts should you damage them badly.
- Phone cameras can be used to take a selfie.

Character:
- The fourth [GTA Online] player is fresh off a plane in Los Santos, character creation involves choosing your mother, father and grandparents and you're given a character. Then players then choose a lifestyle, make choices about the things the character does (partying, couch potato, criminal, athletics nut).
- Characters appear in cutscenes when interacting with other characters in the world as they would in the single-player but doesn't speak.
- Female characters can be used in GTA Online.
- Starting skills are based on the chosen lifestyles, but can be upgraded, as can the look of the character.
- Holding the Select/Back button pulls up a menu where outfits and gestures can be changed.

Story:
- GTA Online takes place after the main story, familiar faces will make appearances By currying favour of characters you can be introduced to more people and delve deeper into the criminal world.
- Franklin's friend Lamar may introduce you to a car dealer named Simeon Yetarian, who wants you to steal cars for him.
- A tech-savvy character you've befriended may hide you on the radar during multiplayer.
- Security firms that have taken a liking to you may be used to deliver airstrikes.
- Biker gangs may support you during missions if you're friendly with them.

Missions:
- After each GTA Online mission the crew leader decides who keeps the loot.
- A leader can choose to hog the spoils but, obviously, other players might not take that very well.
- In missions involving bigger teams a lobby window opens up. From this the roles such as sniper, look-out and transporter can be assigned.
- The crew leader can tweak settings such as time of day, weather, difficulty and how many lives they have to complete the mission.
- Everyone is given priorities suited to their role when missions begin.
- Some missions involve multiple phases, including a set-up phase. In the mission shown prep involved buying guns from Ammu-Nation and procuring a helicopter. The tasks can be split between players.
- When you have enough cash to purchase a "high end residency" you gain the ability to set up heists like the ones in the solo campaign.
- Missions are controlled through Rockstar's Social Club, which means the developer will be able to tweak them regularly.

Multiplayer:
- There's a crew ranking system [as well as a personal rank.]
- Players riding shotgun in cars can control radio stations, set waypoints, use a cinematic camera, or attack others.
- Passive mode can be activated if you want to enjoy Online without being troubled by other players, this is automatically deactivated when you fire your gun however.
- You can invite friends to your home and drink, call strippers, and watch Rockstar's custom created TV shows (or your friends in high-speed chases).

Something weird but good is happening with my GTAV CE preorder. Everytime I check it out, the price has gone down. It was supposed to be well over £100 (I've seen the US price is $150 so I guess whatever that is in £'s) but then went down to £100, then £95 and now it's at £89.52. No clue why it's apparantly free falling but I'm not complaining. GTA V, all the extras that come with the Collectors Edition and the blimp for well below the RRP.

In Europe, PSN pre-orders can start downloading the game at 3 p.m. British Summer Time on Sunday, September 15. North American gamers can start their pre-loading at 3 a.m. ET on Monday, September 16.

Try Amazon Warehouse. I got a TV off there at less than half-price. Apparently it has a minor cosmetic defect somewhere (not on the screen obviously) but it's invisible.

I could play GTA IV and RDR perfectly when the Xbox was set to normal ratio rather than widescreen. Only issue was the phone in Gay Tony and Lost and Damned.
Judging by the gameplay video, the HUD and text is very small.

I've never seen a lot of lag in HDTVs in gaming, TBH. Granted, that's just my experience, but I've hooked enough of them up. If you're routing your system through an HTS there may be some lag between audio and video, but that's usually something you can fix on your HTS. I'm get to have problems even with games like Rock Band and Rocksmith, where the timing of sound to video is kinda...Important. Again, might not be universal, since people do complain. I just wonder if it isn't played up some.

Refresh rate is sometimes used to talk about the response time, and you want a low response time (fewer ms) if possible. I was thinking the refresh rate in terms of hz (60 v 120), but it occurs to me it probably doesn't matter if you're playing on a console. I'm eeing reports even of Xbone and PS4 games being locked to 30hz, which means 120 makes no difference. Ever.

But honestly, this will be a step up in almost any case, so if mostly what you want to do is upgrade, it's probably fine. I'm just anal about the specs, half of which they lie about anyway.

Anyway, as fun as the game is, I keep getting blown away by the technical achievement. If the game had better textures, it'd be the prettiest thing I ever played. Go take a helicopter and hover over the sea though and it just looks amazing. Explosions are also great, but the frame rate goes to shit. Just pretend that it's slowing down time for styles sake and it'll all be OK.

I never finished San Andreas but it was a very good game. The crowbarred in RPG stuff was stupid though.

Everything up to and including Vice City was fantastic.

I almost gave up on trying to finish the storyline so many times in San Andreas. Fucking races, but mostly I loathed the fucking helicopter training missions, and that "The Green Goo" mission or w/e it was called was pretty annoying, as was the one where Carl and Big Smoke (?) go to Unity Station, chase a train down the tracks and I think you had to toss boxes to Smoke until you got X amount, all while keeping yourself and Smoke protected from dying by the hands of the Ballas.

Got in 22 hours over the weekend and it looks like I'm heading towards the end now, unless there's a big swerve. GTA IV was my favourite of all of them in terms of gameplay mechanics, but the story was a little dry. This one ramps up that aspect majorly and it is fantastic.

Should be able to get in another few hours tonight, see if it does finish or not. Done most of the side missions that are labelled on the map (called Freaks & Strangers in this), but other than a few rounds of golf, done very little else. Golf is great, tennis is a bit too stiff to be fun.

Oh yeah, it's great. It gets a pass for a combat as it always bloody does just because everything else feels so right. Love running up to someone and punching them in a one-hit KO. The TV shows are amazing (look out for one called Impotent Rage especially) and the amount of crazy things that can happen make me laugh so hard. Harder than even Saints Row, because it's completely unexpected when it does happen.

Hell, it's worth it just to switch to Trevor. These are the things that I can remember off the top of my head that were happening when I switched to him:

The reason they say not to install the second disc is because it would be trying to read 2 things from the HD at once. If you have a fast USB storage device, hook that up and install disc one to the hard drive and disc 2 to the USB. Will shut up the disc and increase load times a little.

There's a mission given to Franklin by Lester (I think it's the first one from him activated by a payphone) that mentions it will make Debonair Cigarettes stock spike. I had about 35k on Franklin when it started, so it's slightly later on. It's a time limit mission, so when you get it, kill yourself and don't retry, get all characters to dump their cash into the company, complete the mission and then sell. Made so much money with that it was insane.

It's pretty easy to die, it seems. Crashed my car once, launched through the windshield and died.

Not sure if it's something the game tells you at some point but pressing B when you jump, you go "ragdoll". Can be a bit of a laugh if used well.

Shot a guy on the beach and he glitched or "melted" into the sand.

It's possible to meet your other characters. Met Franklin as Michael.

Franklin was driving his car at the time, stopped and got out. I walked over and he jokingly accused Michael of stalking him and said he'd drop by to talk about something, I forgot what.

Yeah they attacked me before then though as well, although right before knocked someone else over when running, dunno is they were GSF or not.
