Same here. I grinded a ton in there though. Spent all my lewt on SP regen accessories prior to going in. Let enemies put me to sleep to regen more. Kept demanding lewt from enemies until they refused lol. Fused some ridic personas compared to what was previously available. I was strong enough by the end to actually capture one of those demonic avengers (the miniboss standing around the button that unlocks the 3rd vault in the main area). When I saw one spawn in a random battle deeper into that 3rd vault and noticed it had a level number (29 I think) how could I not grind it out to catch one?

Between Yen and treasure I came out of there with over 500k lol. Mind you I rerun dungeons after sending the calling card out to get the treasures again since most of them seem to respawn for some odd reason and you can get a number of the treasure demons to spawn as well for massive loot and yen. Plus I can't leave those pesky locked chests just sitting there. The ones in there have great shit for Makota.

My best persona is on that looks like the frost giant from disneys hercules...no clue what its name is... but its nul for both melee and ranged. The boss could do damage to joker outside of his charge attack...

Don't think I've gotten that one yet. Sounds useful. Let me know its name when you find out.
Phoenix is extremely useful if you don't have one yet. Has the racarn ability (revive with 50% health) very early on. Think it had diarama as well. Thinking of duplicating a media with yusuke and adding that to it as well, but wait until I get the mid level version of that spell before going that route.

I also have a pretty sweet Nue (The sphinx mini boss from palace 2) that has nearly every element at his disposal for weakspot abuse. Allows me to not have to worry about whether or not a persona I am replacing has a specific element or not.
Edit: For the record I fused him to get him so that I could choose to inherit most of those elemental attacks he has, they aren't standard on him.

I dont field morgana and have him do the healing. I have the rez spell on shiki though juuuuuuuust in case.
I start combat though with Jikokuten as he casts the defense buff at the start of combat but i switch off immediately. Joker has and AoE of every element most of which are on on memeber....wish i had gone single target but the lvl rare persona had aoes so i loaded up a fusion...

I don't field morgana or ann for this reason a lot of the time. If they run out of SP I just switch them in and equip a regen accessory and go fight a few easy battles to build them back up then go right back to grinding. Gonna have to start fielding ann now though, got her to level 10 now as well and she has my strongest weapon atm, not to mention her follow up attack is OP.

just got
XENOBLADE CHRONICLES
the first one for wii, it's catchy, 8 hours in and they're still tossing fuckin tutorials at me though, that's a shit
it's a bit of learning, battle system is cool but kind of confusing, seems to be pretty fast paced, you're always switching through different skills and "arts" and shit. they do that annoying shit that new JRPGs do though where they give you three party members and only let you control one and you just have to hope the AI does what you want, and if your main person dies then you get game over. just give me back my menu based combat, dammit.
also got Star Fox Zero - Yeah giving my Wii U some use and the games are cheapish now, this is cool I guess, again though just fucking let me play Star Fox, I know how it works, you don't have to tutorial me through the first level of fucking Star Fox, they never did on SNES or N64. No patience for tutorials, god damn, just wish games were simple enough that you didn't even need fuckin tutorials. but uh, it's okay, kinda annoying with the motion controls. only played one level. it came with Star Fox Guard which is this tower defense game but you play from the POV of the towers and... eh. i love tower defense, but it's a little different from what i like. so we'll see.

Played Cuphead for about an hour, and I'm already in love with this game.
So worth the wait.
Kinda don't think I need to dignify this... because... you know...*
I was on board with the idea when I first heard about it for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them was the whole 30's cartoon vibe that this game fully commits to short of licencing Bimbo, Bosko, Betty Boop, and any other possible early toons whose names start with "B". But OTHER reasons, like the underwhelming Mighty No. 9 and Yooka-Laylee and other underwhelming kickstarted titles helping derail the hype train. Still took a chance on this (and Ghost of a Tale), and super glad I did. Something something Steamboat Willie fan on prom night.
I remember a Penny Arcade comic called "The Megaman 9 Effect", and felt the same way whilst playing this. Especially if you're lucky enough to share a couch with someone (which I was, much like like with Scott Pilgrim before the DLC). There are some nitpicky issues, like the fact that:
a) parrys, supers, specials, and knockouts don't offer frames of invincibility directly after use. Knockouts in particular... man, you don't know how many times I've killed a boss just to have one of those parting shots nail me and all that work just evaporated.
b) time only stops on activation of a superspecials, not use... which I don't know if was intentional or not, but on spots where you have to pay attenton to not only the target but the environment (like Grim Matchstick), you can screw yourself.
c) Lack of preview for powerups. Considering you are committed to a purchase, it would be nice to see what you're getting yourself into when your coins are at a premium. While nothing is really "unneccessary", some weapons/items are situationally better, and if you don't know that beforehand, tough shit, because you already bought something else and you're stuck with it as it basically saves what you've done.
d) Super specials must be used if gained. There are times where your meter gets 100% full, but I just wanted to use the regular special because of shot timing. It would be nice to toggle each independently instead of adding meter monitoring to the layered patterns and bullet hell.
e) Kinda goes back to a with the parry, but for the second player revive: if you die while reviving your partner at the apex of your jump, fuck you, because they can't reach.
Don't know if any of that is intentional for the "Nintendo hard" difficulty or an oversight. What I do know is that all of that together seems to make things more frustrating that it seems like it should be.
However...
Nothing I said is actually anywhere close to being a deal breaker. Cue up all the "GIT GUD" you can muster, because it is pretty much like trying to plow through Contra without "the code" the first time you ever played it. The art and music direction is obviously astounding, but it actually has an added effect of making you less likely to smash your controller against the wall because you just can't stay mad at it no mater how many "this isn't even my final form" baddies cut you down. Repeatedly. Without mercy. Because of the bossrush-y nature of the thing, it's fairly easy to take on as much at a time as you want. Spend some hours or kill a few spare minutes on a couple of tries. Fun either way.
As much as a lot of big budget titles are going into the loot box sausage factory and going all in with microtransactions, this is a refreshing change in every way, and it feels almost shameful that I'm getting more enjoyment from a $20 download than a $60+ juggernaut looking to bleed people dry. I can only hope whenever Bloodstained shows up, it will also steer clear of being a disappointing shitshow, and even more hope that there is more of this on the way in the future.
TL;DR - Buy it if you can, survive if it lets you!
*future proofing: my current avatar is from said game. It will undoubtedly change at some point and have impact on my comment, if anyone gives a shit by then.

Although this is more gushing about Cuphead, it's also something there needs to be more of in general: custom button mapping.
I've never quite understood how, as systems have gotten more and more complex over the years and "more like PC", this is one thing that has gotten more scarce than it already is in the console side of things. Fighting games have mostly maintained it, and maybe some shooters. Sort-of (changing entire control schemes), but sometimes I might just want to swap "jump" and "fire" because it makes more sense to me. I like it when games allow free reign of function assignment.

FFXII update: Beat Yiazmat in like 45 minutes at level 70, pretty much doing other stuff and just reselecting a party leader when I got KO'd. Absolute auto-pilot of a superboss. Omega Mk XII on the other hand wrecked me and nearly gave me a rare game over, plus there's a boss rush mode where he's even worse then you immediately have to fight all five judges at once and they all use elixirs and one of them has status nukes. Absolute nightmare. Those three fights have been the only real challenge I've found with it though, a couple of the Espers were solid battles, Zodiark, Ultima and Cuchulainn probably. Just have to wrap up the "story" then there was some other game I think I wanted to play...
So i'm playing Silpheed: Lost Planet on ps2. I love shmups. The game is cool. Decent. But there is one major issue. There is no way to save progress at all. I learned the hardway.
I also cant get my mic to work at all. I cant hear people talk. They cant hear me talk. I see them talking. I've tried everything. I cant figure it out.

Vayne is such a weak villain I guess it's fitting that he would go down in less than a minute to my OP gang of tagalongs.
Overall I think the story was on the weaker side of the series, the political style was overly complicated and the Emperor, Senate and Judges were all ultimately superfluous considering they ate up so much screen time. Even weirder considering it was the Emperor who gave to order to nuke Nabudis and assassinate King Dalmasca, not Vayne. All Vayne really did was blow up a couple of airships and order Gabranth to kill Drace. He was Seymour with none of the build or payoff. Cid and Gabranth were much stronger characters. Basch ending up living as Gabranth was a pretty cool finish, as was Balthier and Fran seemingly sacrificing themselves. I knew they didn't actually die because I've played Revenant Wings but I popped for that final exchange "You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies" "I'd say you're in more of a supporting role".
As FF games go, it's still my least favourite of the PS1-PS2 era. I'd put it over most(?) of the NES/SNES games and the XIII trilogy. Hard to say in comparison to XV since I feel like they more or less share the same strengths and weaknesses. Decent.

They didn't mess with the formula, but there is way more than just an add on. Combat and stealth have a lot of new abilities to unlock. Orcs have additional strength and weakness possibilities. The regions are more diverse in appearance. Big thing is the army building though. That adds a whole new aspect to the game.

Built up a good selection of captains in shadow of war, and took on my first fortress. Was a lot of fun and HOLY SHIT can this game fill the screen with a lot of dudes. Didn't get to face the overlord for story reasons, so that was gay. Next one though.
The army building stuff has a lot of neat features. You can assign certain captains for the assault on the fortress, and upgrade them so they go into battle with a battalion of trolls, suicide bombers, a big siege beast, etc. Theres a bunch of stuff. Before the fortress assault, you can do cool stuff with them. You can assign them to go kill another captain. Then you can participate in the fight and help him win. You can assign one of them as your bodyguard. Then you can summon him whenever you want to help in battle and even give him commands to stealthily kill other orcs. The other command I unlocked is infiltration, which gets the captain close to one of the war chiefs, who are the overlords second in command. then they'll get him alone and you both can take him out. I had two captains infiltrate so it was 3v1. Killing war chiefs reduces the fortresses defenses. Might be more commands that I haven't got to yet.
Even without all the new army building stuff, there were a ton of cool mechanics in this game, but this just sends it into the stratosphere. Might end up replacing something on my top 5 of this generation list.

Because money. DUH.
Also, by the 1-year anniversary of the Switch release, it's already expected to have outsold the Wii U. Naturally with the huge sales success, a lot of third-party developers are jumping on board the Switch train.
Additionally, it's kind of a test to see if the game sells well. If so, Rockstar will likely develop new Switch-exclusive IPs. Same with Bethesda porting Skyrim to Switch. It's a testing of the waters, so to speak.

Just finished Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin. Still the weakest entry in the series, so many cheap tricks and enemy placements really make some sections not much fun. It's not even in a "Dark Souls is hard" way either, because Dark Souls 2 is the easiest one in the whole series, it just likes to throw so much bullshit at you and breaks its own rules so much that the difficulty seems artificial in comparison to the other games.
The DLC was the main attraction of this version for me, and it is the best and worst of Dark Souls 2 all at once. There is a great boss in each of the DLCs, I'd say they are actually three of the best bosses in Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls DLC always delivers a great Dragon boss fight, every single time. Weird that they never get it right in the main game but always in the DLC. Fume Knight is just fantastic, getting his pattern down takes some tries but it gave me that Souls satisfaction that's oddly absent from 90% of the bosses in the main game.
The DLC also feature the hands down worst boss and area in the whole series. There is a boss that is three red phantoms, who have infinite stamina and can frame cancel their frame cancels, backstab when you're facing them and cannot be stunned. There is an area which is a wide open snowfield and you cannot see a fucking thing, meanwhile lightning unicorns seemingly spawn on top of you every 30 seconds. Both of these areas are "optional" and not required to get the main prize of the DLC but fucking hell I must be some kind of masochist.
Gonna speedrun NG+ to platinum this and then it's either Final Fantasy 9 PS4 or Persona 3, not sure yet. Have played FF9 about 10 times before but I'm not holding that against it.
I'm about half way finished with the first Ratchet and Clank.

Feel like after Anor Londo, it's not as soul crushingly hard. 4th try for Smaug and Ornstein btw. Got really lucky though. Had a divine weapon going into the catacombs, so that was easy. Was powerful enough that the lack of bonfires in New Londo Ruins didn't matter and I blasted through it no problem. Bonfires in other areas seemed more generous.
Holy shit, that DLC though. Artorias might be my favorite boss fight ever.
Gwen was kind of a bitch, tbh. He hits hard enough, but it's not that difficult to navigate through his attacks. Beat him first try.
Just bought Evil Within for 7 bucks on PSN, so I'm gonna start that up. RE4 is my second favorite game from the PS2 era behind Firepro, so expecting good things.

This game has the "choice" mechanism down pat. The quests are very entertaining and this game was tagged in while playing Skyrim on my PC(PC crashed), this Skyrim run was my 4th attempt to get invested and this time I was in it to win it. Still am if I can recover my PC from purgatory.

As much as I loved Skyrim (and I know W3 is more story-based than Skyrim), W3 was so much deeper. I'm not sure if I could go back to Skyrim, now. Bethesda need to get the makers of W3 to do the next Elder Scrolls game.

Last night on Witcher 3:
Keira had me do a lot of quests that led up to a score, didn't even know their backstory, but my wife told me that Keira wanted Geralt and she doesn't know that I'm roleplaying as a good person who doesn't take advantage of too many opportunities. The roleplaying sometimes takes an awkward turn for the worse as the decisions made during the final exchange on that haunted island, my Geralt turned heel and slayed his newly bedded lover.
My wife continues to view my playthrough, it was the first time she saw me turn on someone. Usually I'll do quests like hunting beasts for peasants and tell them to keep it, but when Keira used me something "Me, Myself and Irene" went off in Geralt and he couldn't be controlled as his newly repaired blade drove through the orifice of which he just entered the night before.

It can get a bit grindy, not as much as the other SMT titles I've played and you really only need to go fighting 1-2 times a month unless you're doing certain side quests. EXP earned is relative to level disparity, so there's a soft cap on how many levels you can realistically grind between events. Unlike P5 you will need to do some levelling. Still, getting ambushed and your MC focused and stun locked to death before you even get a turn is a real hazard. AI party can be dumb as fuck at times. Other than that it's great, soundtrack is bizarre, especially the dorm theme.

Dude. I can't even begin to tell you how obsessed I was with getting all the achievements on Borderlands and Borderlands 2.
Some of those tricky "Collect X of" whatever items in the original's Claptrap's New Robot Revoluton DLC (I fucking abhor dangling trophies and achievements in front of the player to goad them to basically go on long fetch quests for collectibles but I digress) that I finally resorted to the known method of farming MINAC (the end boss) where you basically just wait for him (a gigantic APC type thing) to drop the quantity of whatever is needed and then go back to hiding where he can't kill/hurt you until all the achievements are complete.

Yeah, a lot of people quit dark souls right away because of the difficulty, but if you stick with it just long enough to get a real understanding of the combat and the strategy around it, you'll get hooked.

I recently bought an Xbox One X and am loving it. I got it used for $250.
I have been playing The Witcher 3 and I enjoy it and I don't. While I love Skyrim, and this game is similar in ways, I feel so unfocused within the massive world. I'm level 11 and bored, don't know anything about alchemy or building armor/weapons. I'm hoping to come back to this game at some point in the future. I got it for $20 on Black Friday, digital.
I just downloaded "This War of Mine: The Little Ones" and I am blown away, totally invested, and even though it's a very serious setting, I have a lot of fun playing it.
Metal Gear Solid V. Wow this is awesome, just downloaded it the other day and I play mission by mission, really good... certain elements remind me of Witcher 3 but elevated. I can tell this is gonna be good, and probably really hard.
Metro 2033 & Lasy Light Redux ... this is really hard but awesome. I got it for like $8.
Games that I've downloaded for free or really cheap but haven't gotten into much...
Path of Exile - Seems really cool but stars very slow, would love a good introduction to this game because it has so many layers. Also the text is really small on my screen and that makes all the leveling up and the like really difficult to comprehend.
The Evil Within - Game is really fucking scary, I don't really even ever want to play it because its so scary, kind of hard too, but mostly just don't want to play this at night. Scary.
Sunset Overdive - Really fun, just kind of lost interest even though I know it's quite a massive game. Seemed to lose focus.
Saints Row Gat Out of Hell - I got this for free on Game Pass, but I don't know if its the best way to start this series.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided - Haven't started yet, came for free with the X-Box.
Doom - Gift, haven't played yet.

I don't enjoy the traveling of vast landscapes however, one of my pet peeves about Witcher 3. However, in that case at least the horse travel actually goes by quite quickly. I can't decide if I want to horse or steal a vehicle most of the time so far. Getting better at the stealth aspect of the game, which is really fun. Not sure yet how I feel about the whole leveling up your army deal, hopefully it makes the game have more layers down the road.

So far I'm very impressed with the story mode, which gets you very involved. Carries on from the first game. Controls wise it's easy to pick up and get into straight away.
Graphics are sharp , characters look how they should look and the voice work is exceptional.

There are certain things I like about 5, but it's got some big flaws. The maps being pretty boring for one. Story is interesting at first, but doesn't really go anywhere til the end when they cram a ton of bullshit in, because Konami hated Kojima at the time, and rushed the game.

And enough people have said that to get me to buy it, I'm just not really ready for it yet. Though as I'm playing some other games I am missing the quality acting from Witcher 3.

Started borderlands 2.
Dunno. Plays well and all, but having the same disinterest in the game world that I had in borderlands 1. Like, it almost seems too barren. I like my post apocalyptic wastelands to have lost of shit everywhere and cool places to explore. So far BL2 has been unimpressive in that regard.
Mad Max gets away with having a whole lot of nothing on the map because the vehicle combat is so god damn fun. But vehicular combat in bl2 is pretty dull.
Probably not going to stick with this. Like 70 games on the backlog, so if one doesn't impress, it gets put on the shelf pretty quick.
LOL the damn near impossible side is more like it.
Not if everybody in your party has top-notch gear (def DP Unkempt Harold, Grog Nozzle and Norfleet, plus a great shield like the 94% Sham or The Bee, for a grenade mod I'd recommend a Storm Front, a legendary ______ (whatever class you're playing) or Slayer of Terramorphous class mod, and maybe a Sheriff's badge relic or one that boosts max health).
Ideally in a party you'll want a Siren specced into Rez. The skill allows Maya to press the action button while a teammate is in fight for your life and instantly revive them. An assassin with B0re and Critical Ascensi0n can deal massive damage. A gunzerker can wreck enemies with the right gear and his action skill.
Also, prioritize farming for Legendary and Seraph rarity weapons and gear over Pearlescent for farming as most of the latter don't live up to their designated rarity. If you can get a pearl Butcher or Bekah, great...the others like the Tunguska and the Unforgiven suck.
Finally, upon reaching UVHM, a great non-mission way to make XP and get amazing gear is farming Mister Tinder Snowflake in the Mercenary Day DLC and raiding the gift box every time thereafter.

I've just entered my final month (for real this time, I think) so I'm rushing around trying to max out some more social links before it's all over. Haven't maxed any of my party's links though, they all unlock mid-late and I don't have enough time left. Got to lv6 with Yukari but now she's mad at me for not hanging out with her even though she has been unavailable for three weeks due to exams / holidays and we live together and I talk to her every day. Ah well, Mitsuru is better anyway.
Banged three girls, then when two of them wanted to hang out on Christmas I blew them both off to max out my rival (much superior) athlete, who at rank 10 gives up his athletics career and moves 30 miles away to work at a factory. P3 protagonist is a not a good guy.

I'm about to enter Tarturus for the final battle in P3. Penis in a wheelchair leading the charge, as is tradition.
Only missed 6 max social links in the end, not a bad run. I missed out on...
Lovers - Finished rank 8, I prioritized Mitsuru over Yukari because she is best girl and as I already said, Yukari got mad at me because I wasn't available for dates. Yukari is cool though. I like her.
Magician - Rank 7. He is a doofus, Wears camouflage with a bright yellow jacket. Who does that? Oh and he's trying to bang a teacher, I already did that in P5 Kenji, keep up.
Priestess - Rank 1. Eh, don't really care for Fuuka. I'm sure her link is fine but it's hard to juggle the girls and she was the lowest priority so I dropped her. Spent half the game mad at me but hey, MC is a cheating douchebag so she got the best deal really.
Fortune - Rank 3. This guy didn't like any of my sarcastic quips so I didn't hang out with him much. Not sure what his deal is but he wasn't too interesting. Something about Art Club but also being a doctor. Okay.
Moon - Rank 5. Fuck this guy.
Aeon - Rank 1. Unlocks very very very late and I wanted to finish three other links rather than just plow this one to 10. That's not even a real Arcana, bro.
Social Links in general are obviously very primitive compared to P5, and probably even P4 I would guess, but there's a few cool ones. Sun, Empress, Hermit and Tower were my favourites. Hierophant's ultimate persona has been my go-to late game. Guess I should go and wrap this up...

The perks were a new feature for P5. I missed them too, they gave much more of an incentive to hang out with certain people.
Here you just unlock the Arcana's ultimate fusion at Rank 10, and more importantly, stop them constantly pestering you to hang out on Sunday. There's no need to rush to 10 though, you won't be high enough level to actually fuse any ultimate until early 50s, and some of them even go into the 80s from what I've seen. Generally though, ones you meet earlier have lower level reqs.

I haven't beat the final boss yet, gonna have to grind for some resist items because he has some very cheap auto-game over inducing tricks once he gets low on health. Really long fight too, had him down to a slither then he beserk fucked me :(
So omitting the ending, I'd say P5 is superior in every way. That's not to say P3 is not good, I really enjoyed it, most main characters have a nice arc. Akihiko SANADA's ultimate persona is my actually favourite across both games, so cool. Story takes aaaaaaages to get going though, which is a real shame.

Obvious huge
So the ending is weird. There's this whole noble sacrifice deal and you die, then you're not dead and a month later you're still going to school but nobody remembers anything, you get closure on your maxed links, then everyone remembers everything and you do actually die like a month after you died. Odd. I found it a bit cumbersome.
There's an epilogue that is apparently balls hard so maybe that will clear some things up, I'll see how long I last there.

Also a neat, easy way to kill Master Gee solo @ 72-OP8 is to make sure you have a Sham shield, 10/10 grenades and singularity grenade mod equipped. Clear the area near his arena of enemies, then open his gate but do NOT enter the arena. Instead stand under the gate, throwing grenades to pull him towards the gate. Once he's near the gate, get in front of him, throw a grenade behind him, and as combat starts, the gate should crush him, instantly killing him.

Yeah in direct comparison, P3 is just mementos with a plot that only really starts 1/3 of the way in. Navigation is clunky, the thing I missed the most was actually the map telling you where available social links were hanging out.
From what I've read, P4 seems like it isn't as huge of a jump backwards in terms of features, especially if you play Golden. Heard the slow start and grindy dungeons are still in there though.
I didn't want to go in to 3 too fresh, but I found it pretty interesting seeing all the archetype characters pop up. Ryuji = Junpei. Mitsuru is Makoto, but Haru and somehow also Yusuke. Two other characters show up later who were somehow teleported into a major subplot in FFXIII. Mara is there. Mara can actually be transmogrified into Akihiko's ultimate weapon, and I was disappointed that it didn't just turn his boxing gloves into giant dicks.
