Feeling nostalgic, so I'm replaying Half-Life.
Haven't played it since my junior year of high school, and while some aspects haven't aged well at all, it's still quite fun.

Started back up Mass Effect to get some of the achievements. Need to work on the biotic now (have to do Liara, Ashley, and Kaidan too...)

Will probably play Mass Effect 2 again just to play it, but only things left is beating Shadow Broker on Hard/Insane and beating the game on Insane itself.

Not playing anything really though, until Street Fighter x Tekken and Mass Effect 3 are released.

Beaten on X-Box now: Halo CE: Anniversary.. Final mission was frustrating esp. the blowing up reactors with rocket launcher while the sentinels are flaming your ass.

And about to finish Spider-Man: Edge of Time.. It felt like Tron Evolution and Arkham style beat em up platform game series.

I'm at the final battle scene with The Evil Peter Parker in the IRon Spider Suit. He's weakening yet manages to climb over the portal to make one huuuge uber red laser on me.. Very Frustrating to beat this guy.

Yes, Finally finished Spider-Man's edge of time.

And currently playing: Clash of the Titans (it's very different than the 2010 movie even though the graphics and actors are the same images yet different voices.. Haha. That's my CONS there.)

Lots of shit reviews on this game but I wasn't even bored the least... Sure, it's repetitive quests of gathering weapons and magic spells from Greek's famous monsters.. All because I'm a biiiggg nerd on anything Greek mythology stuff even if the game is pure shit.. DOn't expect high standard graphics like MW3 or anything. Sometimes the gameplay is what matters the most.

Sonic 2 (XBLA version)
Call of Duty Black Ops

In terms of just the campaign, 2nd CoD game I've ever played and 1st since the start of the Modern Warfare split. Besides some forced moments, it was pretty great and liked the Vietnam War parts the most.

Going to spend the most time with Skyward Sword and Eternal Darkness as the main games for the rest of the month.

Just beat Vanquish.

The graphics and art design is fantastic, the action set pieces are engaging, tense, and fun, and the game does a good job of pacing itself so you don't get burnt out.

It's really short - only took 5 1/2 hours to complete, but it's a very solid shooter/action game.
You could probably find it quite cheap now, so if you see it I recommend picking it up.

Just picked up Velvet Assassin on clearance, so I'll be starting that shortly.

Story 18/20
Setting 20/20
Gameplay 15/20
Originality 20/20
Replayability 15/20

Just finished playing this last night and I can only agree with what the critics have said about it. It is an exceptionally solid game start to finish. The twists are wonderful and well done. I never once felt truly safe traversing Rapture, as the security systems, splicers and Big Daddies have a way of tearing you to shreds no matter how prepared you are.

That is another thing I quite liked, the lack of ammo. They seemed to strike that perfect balance between Resident Evil where ammo conservation is important and Call of Duty where you seem to be a walking bullet hose at times. It found a nice niche right in the middle that even despite having some ammo, very very rarely was I not able to pick more up due to having capacity. The dreary setting they made and the musical score went together like peas and carrots. The setting I think is what made this game so good, based on Ayn Rand and her beliefs in Objectivism which I had previously been quite interested in before this game. It gave a look how a society driven on morals and the advancement of mankind without limitations or hindrances can still fall apart despite the efforts against it.

What I found interesting and in the very least ironic, is the rejection of religion Ayn Rand and in turn Andrew Ryan (which I think was a clever way of referencing her) and there still being bibles found all over Rapture. Hell, even the name of the place itself is dripping with irony. And the first person you see I believe in Neptunes Fortune is a smuggler who is crucified...

Anyways, the game has an incredible story which you can make as deep as you want by listening to the audio tapes (must have spent hours doing this myself) and drawing the conclusions from those with what you think happened that the games story doesn't tell you.

Now, I gave it some perfect marks on a couple areas, so I will just elaborate on the ones I didn't.

Story - Its far too black and white. The game is based on your choices and the consequences are just way too black and white.

Contains end game spoilers

The first time I saw a Big Daddy I must have accidentally hit it with something because it came charging right at me. Then for a short bit I was thinking I was just lucky to get the drop on them first despite Tenenbaums request to save the Little Sisters. I thought she meant let the vile little thing go completely. As I found out shortly after perhaps my 4th or 5th harvested Little Sister is that they nor the big daddies are hostile towards to you. So I took the morally wrong choice of harvesting the Little Sister because I thought that was the right thing to do given their aggresive nature towards me.

Well, harvesting even ONE gives you a different ending to the game. My qualm is that if you harvest even one, even if you rescue all the others the game will give you the bad ending.

Lastly, the rewards for saving them shouldn't be present. The message would be much more powerful if there wasn't any reward for doing so. It would have the choice between power and conscience and nothing else.

Anywho, if I had not accidentally attacked a Big Daddy and thought them hostile, then I likely would have gotten the good ending as we seem fine tuned to make the moral choices in games leaving towards being the good guy.

Very much enjoyed the games story though.

Gameplay - A crossbow having a higher damage output then a grenade launcher sort of irritated me since the crossbow bolts are ridiculously cheap in comparison and made the game after that far too easy for me as I play CoD a lot and have been using a sniper rifle to shoot people charging at me quite a bit. I don't think this would apply to a normal person who doesn't play shooters but I had to say it.

Two other things, one was that sometimes hacking there wasn't a possible way to win. It happened only a handful of times and incidentally only when hacking safes but it was frustrating as you lose quite a bit of health or get security drones on you.

Lastly, Every time you revived in a Vita-Chamber, the monsters didn't regain health. You only recovered a little bit yourself but through perseverance you could whittle away an enemies health and that I think was the biggest flaw in the game.

During several fights, I saw splicers run to healing stations to get health back but NOT after you die. I suppose this would have made the game abnormally difficult at some points but it would have made sense if they had run to a healing station after they killed you and not just limped away.

Replayability - Only reason I dropped it down was because after you know the twists, I don't think the experience would truly be the same.

In conclusion, one of the most engulfing and well developed games I have ever had the pleasure to play.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (9.5/10)
Bit.Trip Runner (10/10)
UFC Undisputed 3

Redboxed this over the weekend. Pretty decent controls, though I'm horrible with transitions and submissions. Mostly try to keep headkicks flying and throw on a suplex every now and then. Disappointed that the career mode makes you retire after 11 years. REALLY disappointed that Ultimate Fights only has 4 fights without forcing you to get DLC. 7/10

Mass Effect 3 - 86
Payday: The Heist - 70
MLB 12: The Show - 83
NBA 2K12 - 79

Haven't finished Payday but I don't think I will. Doing the last two or three missions require you to level up a bit to get different loadouts/abilities and I don't feel like playing it that much. It's not a bad game but the movement can feel a little clunky at times. I wish that you had to do more than hold one button when interacting with objects. Maybe rotate the analog stick, complete a quick time event, or something. Lack of communication from playing on PS3 didn't help either. But it's a fun co-op shooter. Could have used a few more missions I think but for however much I paid for it, it's pretty good.

Although I'm not "done" with the sports games I've played enough to know what I see. I really enjoy Diamond Dynasty in The Show. At first I did. Now though, I think the rest of the teams are going to be overpowered cheaters. The system of using X amount of created players along with X amount of MLB players for only X amount of games and improving the created players to X amount of attributes for X amount of cash needs to be improved. I don't know how. I haven't spent enough time with the system yet but I'll think of something.

The game itself is fine. As long as you have an hour to kill for each game. You COULD speed up the in game time by ignoring cutscenes, making the CPU throw more strikes, etc but if you tinker with those settings than it ruins the pitcher/batter battle which is really what baseball is all about.

2K is what it is. I'm starting to get sick of it though. I think it's the controls and the fact that I can never pass to who I want to.

I think you have to just spread out and keep moving forward while shooting to get to the other side of the bridge and not get fox holed into one spot.

I did the next mission a minute ago and I think we almost made it to the end but died. It's a stealth mission where you can do the whole thing without shooting if you're really good. Except we got found out like 1 minute into it.

Haven't done the last one.

Overall liked the game more than the first but the ending was a huge letdown once the reason why the main villain became a bad guy was revealed.
Apparently the whole reason Gabe goes rouge and becomes the villain is because you never let him get any blame for his mistakes. All the killings and backstabbing of Rainbow Six was just for that sole reason. Everything else was just to make you go find him just so he could say that to your face

Guess it's because the Rapture 1959 and 1969 from the first two, as well as the characters, gameplay and story have made me see them through rose-colored glasses, whereas I percieve this new game may be only average at best by my personal standards.

Playing through Spider-Man : Edge of Time. It's pretty enjoyable. Game play is pretty repetitive, but the story is fun.

TBH, it's hard not to compare any superhero game against Arkham, which blows everything else out of the water. The Amazing Spider-Man game adaptation looks promising.

Deadly Premonition - Fuck You
Goldeneye: Reloaded - 9
Street Fighter X Tekken - 42

I feel Deadly Premonition doesn't deserve a rating. I don't think it's fair to compare it to other games of this generation. It's a polarizing game and I am one of those who didn't like it. I'm trying to remember if I enjoyed anything out of it but I can't say I did. The story maybe. It actually had some twists and turns that were unexpected yet were still within reason of the story. I called who the Raincoat Killer was pretty early but I think it was designed that way. I tried finishing a lot of this game in one weekend. I did not succeed. I think that's what limited my enjoyment was trying to rush through it. During the middle sections I just said fuck it and let the game do it's thing, not having any expectations on how long a certain episode may take. Once I stopped trying to "beat the clock" it became a bit more enjoyable but not much. Doing anything in that game dragged and took about 5 times longer than it should have.

But if I were to give Deadly Premonition a rating, it would be higher than Goldeneye: Reloaded. What a load of uninspired crap that was. The game was linear. Also, the "modernization" of the story wasn't necessary. The sound is bad. Just dogshit. The guns sound bad, there is no music that stands out (I think they did away with and Bond theme altogether), and Daniel Craig may have literally phoned it in. He may have Skyped his performance from his house without any direction given. Multiplayer was probably dumb, I dunno. I didn't really bother with it, just ran through a few maps on private mode. All of them bland. No "classic" maps to choose from. Fuck this.

I am not a fan of SFXT either. I may give it one more chance later down the road but I just can't get the hang of it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it just doesn't feel like I'm playing Street Fighter. If Capcom wants to branch out and attempt something different, that's fine. But if they wanted to include something "familiar" from both franchises, I think they missed on the Street Fighter side. I am having a hell of time both using and fighting against characters I've played with for years and if it's a technical issue like poor netcode or not recognizing input than that's even more reason for a low rating since the game isn't complete. Also, fuck the DLC/hacking situation.

I knew my luck of playing mostly great games would run out pretty soon. :(

Just picked up Valkyria Chronicles 2 again after not touching it for like four months. I had only gotten an hour in, but it's so disorienting to pick up an RPG like that. That series works really well in handheld format though. I've been playing a bit of Trials Evo too.

I don't feel like playing this. They're stealth games, so they require time/patience. I don't feel like spending time/patience on these remakes. It's not as if the story is tremendous or there is some part in these games that I HAVE to play. I've already played the much improved next gen version of these games and enjoyed them, no reason to hash out an average made collection of the first three games when I have other shit to do. If I wanna know happens story-wise, I'll look it up.

If there was a halt on video game production, I might come back to this. Eventually. But I don't see that happening.

Tried out the Dragon's Dogma demo.

I was kinda disappointing - it excels in it's presentation, but the combat is very shallow.
Every fight consisted of hammering X and Y, enemies were pretty dumb, and the bosses were incredibly easy, I was able to stand right next to the chimera, hammer the previously mentioned buttons, and I never once ran the risk of dying.
The only variation in the combat was during the Gryphon fight, where you could use a bow.

I'm hoping there is more depth and challenge present in the final game - it looks great, but everything else about it is paper-thin.

Resident Evil was neat. Co-op was fine. Didn't get into the DLC or versus modes but I bet those are great too. I skipped through most of the "files" you had to "investigate" which vomited 30 pages of character motivation at you and background info on just about everything in the game because I don't really care THAT much to read about it. It's nice it's there though I guess for those who do want that. It sure was convenient they flew over that volcano when they did.

Seems like PC is the best platform for Dungeon Defenders considering the amount of updates it gets. As I'm typing this, steam is downloading a DD patch. There must be at least 4 a week it seems. I wish there were more levels that weren't DLC (which I will probably buy eventually) because there aren't a lot of levels on there but I guess that's how they get you. I also kinda cheated by joining an experienced room in Glitterhelm and leveled up in like 20 mins which sucks the fun out of it a little bit. And when I did beat the game I was dicking around while Reqiuem was doing most of the work.

Just finished The Witcher 2. Kind of disappointed, tbh. Not that it's a bad game, but there was so much hype and great reviews, that I just went in expecting something better.

The story is good, but few of the characters really stand out. The choices in this game often have fairly large consequences, which is nice for multiple playthroughs.

One big problem I have is that where most games these hold your hand too much, this game doesn't tell you enough. So many times I had to complete a certain objective, and the game gives you no indication of where you're supposed to go, neither on the map or in the journal. Only option is to search every inch of the current town. Doesn't help that the map is absolute garbage.

Combat is okay I guess. I don't really care for not being able to use potions or other items in battle. Some missions you know what you'll be up against, so it's ok, but more often than not, there's no way to predict what type of fight you'll be in next, and the harder difficulties require that you use proper alchemic combos for certain fights. Which means you'll be dying quite a bit, for no other reason than you can't see the future. When things go well, however, combat can be fun.

Auto Save is horrendous at times. You pretty much have to rely on your own manual saves, if you don't want to lose a good 30-60 minutes of work.

The game world felt a bit underwhelming, as you only travel to three small towns, each with it's own small wilderness area around it. It's very linear, as once you're done with a town and leave, you can't go back. Very little to see and explore, which is very important in an RPG, at least to me. It's especially jarring, coming off of something like Skyrim.

Despite all my complaints, it was still fun overall. It's just not up to the hype, imo.

Playing Prototype 2 now, and it's more like Prototype 1.5. That said, it's still a blast, and it does come with a digital copy of the first game if you buy it at walmart, so that's nice. The new powers are pretty cool, especially bio bomb.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (9.5/10)
Bit.Trip Runner (10/10)
UFC Undisputed 3 (7/10)
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Ugh. Such a big disappointment, this game was. First off, I understand it's non-canon, but it could've been so much better. Just because the missions are long doesn't mean there should be so few of them. The controls were somewhat alright except the executions could've been more varied, shooting behind cover could've been better. In fact, just running around in general could've felt better. The whole thing felt fucking tedious to no end. There really was no variation in gameplay. Just shooting at waves of endless "zombies" modeled after 5 fucking designs, and a seemingly neverending squad of soldiers. And how they managed to dumb down a Tyrant.....sigh. The whole game felt like a throwaway, which is exactly what I did with it after 10 hours of play. Could've been a lot better (4/10)

Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles: I needed a light gun game and this is it. House of the Dead with an RE fix. Tougher than I thought, though. The gun shell feels good. Do I really have to press A to pick stuff up or do I just shoot them again?

Just picked up Rayman Origins and my god it is 2d platforming bliss. Such a great game. Can't wait til my roomates get home so we can play together.

Only complaint is that I am on the third world and I've yet to face a boss. Should be one in every world imo.

I was wondering if I should pick up this. You have convinced me. Which platform are you playing on?

360.

There are just so many cool little touches. This game is an overlooked example of games as art.

When you get to the part in the water world where you are swimming with a school of fish, and a big stupid grin doesn't come across your face, well then you have no soul.

Picked up Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

You'd think after 3 games they would fix the gunplay. It still sucks, but the story and graphics are still the best in the business.

I'm halfway through Valkyria Chronicles 2. I started playing Condemned 2: Bloodshot a little as well.

Who knows after that. Probably finally get to Persona 3 or some other JRPG; I have way too many of those in my backlog and I need to always be playing one of them if I ever expect to finish all of them.

How was Condemned 2? I heard it was awful, but then again, the first one wasn't that great either. If you have a 360 and haven't already done so, play Lost Odyssey. That is one of the better JRPG's out there.

I actually enjoyed Condemned 1. Condemned 2 so far is more difficult than I expected. Not used to being as patient with the combat yet, and I'm getting caught off guard more than I expect to.

Lost Odyssey is in my backlog. I've beaten every Final Fantasy except XIII and XIII-2 (barring the MMOs), so it's pretty much up my alley.

I didn't care for FFXIII. It got far too boring and even the voice actors sounded like they didn't want to be there. I got to chapter 11, I think. The big open area with the big ass dinosaur looking monsters and said fuck this.

LO is well worth a play. Easily over 100 hours of play, unlike X Blades, which I'm playing now. Totally easier than I thought it was. Shame I didn't finish it back in 2009 when it came out.

Street Fighter X Tekken - 42
Bastion - 90
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy Collection HD - n/a
Resident Evil 5 - 70
Dungeon Defenders - 78
Resistance 3 - 53

There was an unnecessarily long install, 3D mode was bad, weird textures, glitches where the AI partners would be stuck in an area where they need to be at a door to unlock it, dumb AI partners in general as none of them killed anyone, when I would click the LS it would toss a grenade for no reason maybe 20% of the time and I never tried online mode because a pass is needed. It's a fine shooter I guess, I'm just sick of playing shooters so when little things like that start to add up is when a decent game becomes average to bad. This one is somewhere in the average to bad scale.

Beat Brutal Legend, and I enjoyed it.

It has a likeable cast of characters, excellent art direction, a compelling narrative, the gameplay is intuitive and fun, and the voice acting is tops across the board.

I was off-put by the mix of hack-and-slash with RTS at first, but it became second nature pretty quickly thanks to the control scheme.

If I had to find a major fault with Brutal Legend, it would be that it's rather easy.

The final boss in particular is a cakewalk, and there really isn't a penalty for dying...also, for a game that was driven so much by character interaction and an grand mythic story, the ending was a bit too brief and felt hollow to me.

In addition, you're given a pretty large world to explore, but there isn't much to do in it.
You have your main quests, and side quests, but the side quests vary between 3-4 different types which all play largely the same.
Outside of that you can go on the standard scavenger hunt for various relics and monuments, but the rewards provided for finding them aren't worth the trouble and time used for searching them out.

That aside, I really did enjoy the game.
The combat is fun, the story engaging, I totally loved the artistic direction (particularly in the Black Metal region) and I found myself laughing on many occasions because the game can be genuinely funny at times.

If you haven't played it, I recommend giving it a try, as it can be had very cheaply (got my copy from newegg.com for $5) especially if you're a metal head, or if you just want a light, fun game to play without having to worry about it whipping your ass without mercy.

You get an achievement for defeating Sinestro with Lantern/Zod with Superman. Yeah think so,its in the Batcave, not sure if you have to complete the story first to unlock it though. You're actually running around Gotham between levels, all the non story specific characters are there for you to unlock like the Pirates game, you need Superman to open up parts of the city/flash/lantern to build things.

I don't care. The dialogue from the characters was incredibly verbose in describing who they are and where they're from and where they're going in the Tolkienism of being described as "Gydneyelsdij of Fryreshuierh" and "Havelkernp from Flendermore" and after a while my head started to hurt and I just didn't give a fuck.

Jamestown is good too but I don't like how the campaign is laid out. Lack of online co-op too. Great soundtrack though.

Might try to dive into some of these HIB games that I've never gotten around to.

Working on: Borderlands DLC, The Walking Dead, DYAD, Dear Esther, Terraria, Trine 2, Super Meat Boy, Soul Calibur V, Metal Gear Solid Collection, maybe Portal 2 co-op (forgot I haven't touched it for 360)

Beat in 2012 - Rating
Assassins Creed: Revelations - 2/5
Mass Effect 2 - 5/5
Mass Effect 3 - 4/5
Modern Warfare 3 - 3/5
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - 4/5
The Witcher 2 - 3/5
Trine 2 - 3/5
Dragon's Dogma - 3/5
The Amazing Spider-Man - 5/5
NBA2K12 - N/A
Warriors Orochi 3 - 4/5
The Walking Dead Eps 1&2 - 4/5 for both.
Sniper Elite V2 - 2/5
Sleeping Dogs - 3/5
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron - 5/5

Sleeping Dogs - Good game, liked the story and driving around Hong Kong. Combat was kinda slow tho, and while driving around Hong Kong was nice, I would've liked a better fast travel feature.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron: Might just be me loving Transformers, but the only complaint personally that I have is not being able to play Grimlock till the second to last chapter of the game :(

Games beaten in 2012:
Sonic 2 (XBLA version)
Call of Duty Black Ops
Portal (Xbox 360 Orange Box version)
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
WCW/NWO Revenge
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow

Felt a lot shorter overall than the only other handheld Castlevania I ever played (Harmony of Dissonance) but not as confusing to get around besides 2 spots. The souls system works out great but the use of magic seals to end boss fights became frustrating once the seals got more complex.

Probably going to get around to beating Portal 2 and replay Majora's Mask as my main games for now. Currently on a hiatus with Metroid Prime 3.

Games I've beaten so far in 2012:
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Journey
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

Was so hard, took me forever, got the shittiest ending, nothing happened. Have to spent 20 more hours beating the optional dungeon I guess

I ended up with the "Human" ending because all three reasons are batshit insane. The endings all suck except True Demon. Fuck that optional dungeon though. Damage floors everwhere, random boss level enemies every five steps, random warps, hardest three bosses in the game. You can't even win against the last boss unless you specifically clone a party with a specific skill from a monster that costs an insane ammount of macca. I pretty much gave up on that as soon as I beat Dante.

The demon ending? Where they're just like yo... you're a demon, that's about it, alright. That's the one I got. I felt the same way about all three of the reasons. I got to the third kalpa of the labyrinth and I don't think I ever got past the part where Dante chases you around and shoots at you. What level were you in when you finished? My main dude was in 85, then the others were like 80-84.

Also I somehow fused the Fiend Trumpeter towards the end of the game, and the last skill that he learned was a move that instantly killed the enemy with the lowest HP percentage, even if they were at 100%. It was so helpful in that fucking final dungeon.

True demon is what you get for finishing the kalpas. Regular Demon is the worst ending, but the reason endings are all generally underwhelming too since they dont actually show you anything of the new world. My demi-fiend was about 74 I think, Kagutsuchi took me forever because I was using mainly phys-null demons and relying on Daisoujou to heal me every turn. Luckily my party had all the buffs / debuffs so i didn't get absolutely murdered. Must have been in that battle for 40 mins at least though.

That would have been a cool option, that part in the promised land was absolutely brutal. All the real humans were such dickheads.

I didn't even get to face Kagatsuchi. It just told me that the world can't be created by a demon and then it went to credits. The longest fight I remember was Noah, Isamu's god who kept changing his resistance. I got the hang of it after a while but he had so much HP.

What a bunch of bullshit, you can't progress in the labyrinth after you create the Tower of Kagatsuchi. So I beat Dante in the third kalpa and then literally was stuck there with no way to progress nor return to the vortex world. Couldn't even watch the peephole scene.

Future criteria for playing "current gen" RPG that most modern games do which makes me hate them:

- Battle systems that require more than 30 seconds of tutorials
- Massive towns that you get thrust into and have all different types of stores
- Complex equipment upgrading systems

I can't deal with these. I just started playing The Last Story and it's guilty of all three. The only games I ever settle down with are ones that pretty much need no explanation.

Ouch. I made a backup save before I summoned it just in case I ever felt like taking on the last two kalpas / finishing the Jack Frost minigame. Wouldn't want to go through the entire thing again.

One more god rejected! Survive the fall from grace!
Thou wilt not oppose the wrath of God!

Surprising, considering FF 9 and 10 were great. Haven't played 12 though...
But this barely feels like a FF game so far...

It never feels like a Final Fantasy game and if you don't care for the story / characters then you probably won't like it at all. I didn't think it was horrible but it's not even comparable to anything from FF6-10.
