If they really want to do that overseas thing, I say they should count it as a road game for both teams. It would be stupid if they take one home game away from a team, since there are only eight during a season anyway.

Is it just me, or is watching teams like Denver and Indianapolis every week on CBS seem a little bland? It just seems like the color schemes and everything is just so LDSKFJ. I would like to see them show one of those teams on FOX for once.

Also, the Cowboys season is on the line tonight. I still feel that Romo still has a chance to do well, but we shall see tonight.

Once they converted that 2 point conversion ( to Reggie btw ), it was pretty obvious that Denver would tie, Peyton would lead the 2 minute drive, and Vintieri would kick the game winner.

Well, it wouldnt be the first time he fucks up in New England. But he's about as locked in as i've ever seen him right now. Last year the defense was making plays to win games and was very efficient. This year, its not at all. Injuries, FA loss's. Its bad right now, yet Manning hasnt really flinched and not even the best defense in the league could even slow him.

I hope the Pats win tommorow, for the sake of the Indy game.

I'm sorry, since when does talking shit about a player make me have no football knowledge?

I would think your ignorant spasms of rage showed a far greater lack of knowledge on your part, to be honest.

Kreutz is and always will be overrated. When you have to play politics and mind games to try and gain an advantage, that says something about your abilities. Kind of like Fred Smoot talking shit -- it covers up his defficiency as a cornerback. Matt Birk, amongst others, is way better than Kreutz. If Kreutz wasn't juicing, he'd be worthless. And if you think he's not juicing, you need to be tweaked on something to break your teammate's jaw.

Or maybe he was aiming at someone else and missed because of his crossed eyes.

Yeah let's talk about the Patriots. Who cares if your team made it to the playoffs more in a weaker conference? You go to the playoffs only to get embarrassed? In the end, none of our teams are any good. Way to go top seeded Bears, way to get raped by Steve Smith at home.

Not watching the game but I hate when your team misses oppurtunities. Like for instance when the Giants played the Cowboys last week it was like 12-7 going into halftime (Giants leading) but it should have been more. The Cowboys would have had the lead 14-12 if Sam Madison hadn't picked Bledsoe deep in the red zone. That would have been shitty considering we outplayed the Cowboys in pretty much all phases up until that point.

Honestly, i never thought it was that bad, I thought it sucked in terms of the big picture and the fact that, I thought they werent doing right by Tom Brady. I actually thought Seattle was nuts giving what you got for him.

That Doug Gabriel pick up was huge. Jackson has looked better and better. I think Cadwell will find a way to blow a game somewhere down the line. I'd actualy be worried about the recievers inexperience in the playoffs, but you do have Tom Brady so..

I don't know why people are writing off Pittsburgh so much. Even with Batch, they have a hell of a team. Somebody today said they weren't even going to make the playoffs. Come on, they lost Randle El and Jerome Bettis.

Textbook example as to why you shouldn't base a team off of one game.
That was a pretty safe predicition tho, the loss of Bettis and Randle El aren't the big issue with the Steelers being terrible. It is the fact that Ben Rothliesberger enjoys throwing it to the wrong team.

AlphaBean
11-02-2006, 03:00 PM
I think that Bettis was a big loss, with him in the game the win was almost guaranteed, because you couldn't not respect the run when a team runs 80% of the time.

Roethlisberger has been out of sync all year because every game it seems he's getting injured or whatever. Come on. The bike crash, the appendix and the concussion? I think if he can play like, 2-3 more games without dying, he can settle into a rhythm.

Also, Santonio Holmes should be benched, they should sign Charles Rogers or something, fuck. Yeah, good idea to get the ball to your overrated rookie in the clutch.

But yeah, ROFL@ James Dungy. I heard he signed on to do a beer commercial. He plays the dude who comes in and says "You guys hangin' out? I'll hang out."

AlphaBean
11-02-2006, 03:01 PM

I never really thought Roethlisberger was that good. He would throw the ball like 12 times a game and everyone would talk about how incredible he is. He is alright but I think most quarterbacks could have done well with the system that was set up.

Yeah I sort of agree with all of you, I thought he was more of a Trent Dilfer Superbowl winner to tell you the truth. Sametime though I agree that all the shit going on with him this year he is going to have a negative effect on you.

No run game? They still have Willie Parker - I dunno, dude only had 1,200 yards last season. Ben's bad play is hurting the running game, the running game isn't hurting Ben's play.

:nono:

Because Johnson is a veteran. He has proved that he can win. It's the reason he still has a job in the league. Right now he has a bad Minnesota team in the thick of things for a wild card birth.

Roethlisberger had a good year (nothing record breaking) and won the Super Bowl. Winning the Super Bowl does not automatically place you in an elite group and make you a Hall of Famer. It does not grant him a place along side guys like Montana and Elway. A guy like Brady is on his way there, not "Big Ben".

Just as winning the Heisman does not guarantee you a long NFL career.

I think people really underestimate how important the Bus was to the Steelers.

Bettis made Roethlisberger a better QB.

Look at last year's rushing stats compared to the first half of this year. Last year Pittsburgh rushed the ball a total of 549 times for 2,223 yards (good for 3rd in the AFC) with 21 TDs. They averaged 138.9 yards per game and 4 yards per carry.

Through 7 games this year they have 204 attempts for 773 yards (good for 9th in the AFC this year, behind Oakland) and 6 TDs. They are averaging 110.4 yards per game and 3.8 per carry.

They were 11-5 last year and won the Wild Card and 2-5 so far this year.

If their rushing stats continue this way, they won't come close to what they did last year... thus making losing "The Bus" all that more important.

Joey Slugs
11-03-2006, 02:55 PM
Yeah, not to mention Big Ben played like shit in the actual SuperBowl though he did lead his team there.

Good point, but he also didn't have a record breaking season either.

He was 168/268 for 2,385 with 17 TDs and 9 INTs.

For the record (in the Super Bowl) he was 9/21 for 123 with 0 TDs and 2 INTs.

Crippla
11-03-2006, 02:57 PM
Yeah, that was the point, he choked in the SuperBowl. I've said this before and I'm gonna say it again, if I could pick one QB that's clutch and will come through in a game that counts like that, it's Tom Brady.

Joey Slugs
11-03-2006, 03:02 PM
And just to close the Johnson arguement.

In only 9 games last year he was 184/294 for 1,885 with 12 TDs and 4 INTs. Compare that to Roethlisberger's "elite" Super Bowl Champion stats.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
11-03-2006, 03:30 PM
The Steelers still have Willie Parker no? 1,200 yards last year

I guess Bettis was the man at getting 1 yard TD runs last year though, that 386 rushing yards being taken off the team is definetly why the Steelers are playing bad.

Joey Slugs
11-03-2006, 03:46 PM
It has nothing to do with how many yards Bettis got last year and it has everything to do with teams having to play the run from two different styles and respecting both at any given moment.

dablackguy
11-03-2006, 04:02 PM
The Steelers are awful right now because of Roethlisberger. Its that simple. he's been awful and his other side stuff like the motorcycle accident and appendectomy the concussion are distractions because he continues to play through them and play poorly. Hell, he's tied for the league lead in interceptions with Charlie Frye.

dablackguy
11-03-2006, 04:06 PM
What also hurts is that when Bettis and whomever else were there, he never had to do much, maybe make the occasional big throw. Now, the team gets behind and he HAS TO make plays. A bit different than before.

Also, the defense hasn't been as good. This is both cause and effect of Joey Porter's injury. Thought he did play last week, they need to go back to what made them good, a run heavy offense and that kept a vicious defense on the sidelines and fresh.

OK, Joey Slugs, seriously just take that back.

Ben Roethlisburger is not only a better quarterback than Brad Johnson, but he is younger, has more potential and has won just as many Super Bowls. The only reason the Vikings are in the "thick" of the wildcard chase is because the defense has been solid and the NFC, especially NFC North, is awful.

Yeah it hurts to lose a short yardage back but hurt this bad? I think the lose of Bettis is being overrated a lot, not underrated. Najeh Davenport can be a shortyardage back (He is currently averaging 4.1 yards a carry, while Bettis had 3.3 last season) So I really don't see how you say the Steelers are playing bad due to the loss of Bettis, I don't think that is the case at all.

Difference being, Davenport PROBABLY will get you 1st down on 4th and inches... Willie Parker MIGHT get you 1st down on 4th and inches... but Jerome Bettis DEFINITELY got you 1st down, every time. For 3rd and 4th down, short-yardage etc, Bettis was the man.

Which is why I don't get this... why aren't there more 250 pound HBs in the league? Take the Vikings... their "bruiser" back is 215. What the fuck is that?

And Brad Johnson played against very poor teams when he was "successful" last season. Facing the Steelers and the Ravens and the Giants, he was embarrassed. He's like my brother... he can torch you on rookie, but when you put it on All Pro, you better have a killer offensive line, an awesome running game, big, sure-handed receivers, and a top-5 defense in the game that will score points for you, otherwise... Hi Patriots!

But to answer your question, Dookie Davenport snuck into his ex GF's dorm room while she was sleeping, opened her closet door, and took a shit in her clothes hamper.

Fuckin' shit in the fuckin' hamper. That's legendary. I was sad the Vikings didn't pick him up. :( We'd be getting more than 2.5 YPC that Chester Taylor's getting...

What the fuck is that?Never been a big fan of short yardage backs myself, unless you have a smaller running back like a Barry Sanders or something, I really don't see why an average sized running back can't get the first down. You don't need a 260 pound guy "busting through" for 2 yards, I'm sure your 220 pound back who just did all the work to get you to the 1, can easily get that 1 yard TD .

Not really buying the YOU KNEW IT thing with Bettis either, seeing how he coughed up the ball in the "biggest short yardage situation" of his career.

AlphaBean
11-04-2006, 02:42 AM
Haha true, about the fumble... but hey, he got yardage... he just happened to leave the ball behind. :shifty:

But yeah, the way I see it... the closer a back is to a linebacker, the more punishment he can inflict and impose on the defense. Like you know in those old football movies when they give it to Kubiak from Parker Lewis, aka Jerry from ER, or whichever "big dude" happens to be on the team? They have a guy on each leg, and two people on their back trying to take the guy down...

Really, you take a 210 pound back who can be tackled by a cornerback, how well are you going to tire out a defense?

Granted, you've got backs out there, like Moe Williams, who never quit on a run, and have wicked leg strength who can push the pile... I just like the idea of giving a Ray Lewis or Julius Peppers the ball, rather than handing the ball off to Ronde Barber's IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHER.

That's why I love Corey Dillon... he's not 260, but he's still a bruiser, and it's guys like him and Jamal Lewis who are breaking the single-game rushing records... not Tiki, not Portis... and you know why? Come 3rd, 4th quarter, that defense is sick and tired of working their ass off to bring the big man down. When you have a quick back, like we were discussing with a QB who can get rid of the ball... you get an elusive, slippery back... and you get him in your sights, you're going to crush him. You take a 260 pound bruiser, and you need to worry about bringing him down, not laying wood. You need to wrap that guy up, where's the fun in that?

I have a question maybe someone can answer for me. I've been looking for the reasoning behind the Colts having to go to New England 3 (4?) years in a row. My question is basically .. Why? Why dont the Colts get a home game in the regular season against New England. I havent found a definitive reason.

Gonzo

Bruising backs are far less versatile, I'd much rather have the more athletic backs of the league. Kind of excited for the day Brandon Jacobs takes over. 6'4" 250lbs. and this dude has some speed.

Also, I kinda have a similar question to RP's about how they make up the schedule.. I've noticed that the rest of the NFC South have a very similar schedule to the Saints.. It seems everyone in the NFC South plays everyone in the NFC East and the AFC North.. Is this just a coincidence or is it always like this.. Like, one division plays two other divisions every year?? If so, this' the first year I've noticed..

Gonzo
11-04-2006, 04:35 PM
Yes. Let me break this down:

We will use the NFC East as an example. This year everyone in the NFC East plays everyone from the NFC South and the AFC South. (So what this means is that each team in a single division plays two other divisions a year, and this rotates year to year.) This comprises 8 games of your schedule.

Then there are 6 games, 3 home and 3 away against your divisional opponent. You're now at a total of 14 games.

Then, based on your previous year's record, you play two other teams. For example those two teams this year for the Giants are the Seahawks and the Bears. The way they determine who plays home/away (now I'm not totally 100% positive on this portion but anyways) is whoever had the better record. For example the Giants played the Seahawks in Seattle this year because last year the Seahawks were 13-3 and the Giants were 11-5. The Giants and Bears were both 11-5 last year, but the Giants must have won the tie breaker. You're now at a total of 16 games, plus one week for a bye week.

Anyways, right-o Kris, probably see you in the playoffs. ;)

Agreed. If there were more 250 pound men who are agile enough to play running back, they would. We played Texas A&M in football a few weeks ago, and they had a big ass guy like that, huge yet very mobile. After the game, people were like "Why don't we get a guy like that?"

It's simply because a 250 pound guy with good feet is not easy to find.

Nah, i agree, Brady got screwed by Faulk, but man, pretty tasteless imo by New England booing Vinateri for " leaving for the better contract " as Madden and Michaels put it. Tasteless cause the Patriots had so much room under the cap and refused to give him a couple more 100k's.

Dude this Boston, did you really think they where going to cheer him while he was on the Colts? It was like the Johnny Damon thing, if Vinateri went to like the Vikings or something he would have been getting cheers. He didn't though, so he is getting boo'd. I am sure he can take it, he makes 3 million to kick a football.

It's nothing like the Johnny Damon issue. Damon said he wouldnt leave for more money and he did, to Bostons biggest rival. Adam just wanted a few more hundred thousands, cause he's worth it and the Patriots were like 13 million or more under the cap. And they refused. After all he's done for that team. Tom Brady would have 2 less rings if it werent for tha guy. He's not worth 200,000 more? Give me a break. And lets not try to spin this as " He's lost his touch " or " He's no longer clutch " cause he missed 2 field goals tonight. I dont need to refer any further back then last week when he kicked on down the middle to beat the Broncos. I get booing him, but if i was a New England fan, i'd show some respect.

I think this is the year the Colts make it to the Super Bowl. Really, I suppose a team like the Patriots or the Chargers could make it to the AFC championship game, but no other team in the AFC has a Super Bowl feel to them at this point.

While I agree I kinda wish the Patriots did just resign Vintiari, I think they felt different. Pretty sure he has already missed 2 games this season..hasn't he?

Also, it was more than a difference of $20,000 dollars, so I really don't know where you get your stats sometimes (probably outta your ass)

It was a small percentage of the salary cap though, so yeah I was pretty surprised when they didn't resign him but I've yet to see game where this choice has hurt them. It didn't even hurt the Patriots tonight while playing the Colts, since Vinatieri missed 2 kicks.

And it is like the Damon thing, people would still boo Damon even if he never said that thing about taking more money. This is Boston man, I don't know why are so shocked by this (especially from guy like you, I can't believe you are really talking about booing someone being tasteless)

Freakin had Brady on my fantasy team.

4 TD's last week.... 4 ints this week. Damn man.

Oh and when you start complaining about QB situations try having Worthlisburger as your "Francise QB" that the Coach refused to bench regardless of how many terrible throws he makes.

I've never seen a team have so much offense and blow it so often in at like the 5 then I do this year with my Steelers.

Oh well, True fans stay on the wagon I suppose. Top 10 pick here we come baby!

Pretty sure its more than just a different of 200,000 too though, you have to take into account the signing bonus - the amount of money spread out over the years of the contract etc. Pretty sure it was something like 1 million more a year.

Still though, this move has yet to really hurt the Patriots so I dunno. I personally wouldn't have boo'd Vintieri if I was there but I'm not really surprised he did get boo'd. I don't see why this matters though, and I don't see how you can call it "tasteless"

I think it is a completely legitimate thing for Pats fans to boo him. It isn't the same exact thing as Damon, but it is very similar. The Pats of the last five or six years and the 2003-04 Red Sox have become cult teams, teams that will be remembered for generations. Johnny Damon was probably the most identifyable player on the Red Sox because of the hair and everything, and then he turned his back on this team and went to the biggest rivals for more money.

For Adam (can't spell last name), it was very similar. When you talk about the Patriots dynasty, there are really two names that stick out more than others: Tom Brady and Adam Vinatieri. There were a lot of other big players, but those two played a huge role in both Super Bowls, and forever would have been heros in New England. The fact of the matter is that kickers are replaceable. AV had some game winning kicks, but he is not the only kicker in the league who would have hit both of those, like the Miz always says, he just got the opportunity and converted it. The whole system of the Patriots is to not overpay players, and this guy is a fucking kicker. He can stay, be in this system, and be forever a hero in Boston. Instead, he goes to the Colts. Not neccessarily the Yankees, but fuck, they are about the biggest rivals the Patriots have. More than that, they are the Patriots bitch. So leaving the Pats for the Colts is almost sad, I look down on him for it. Like Stima said, if he went to just about any other team, even a team in the division, it wouldn't have been as stupid.

Basically, this was a really long winded explanation, but Vinatieri took more money. That is completely reasonable, a lot of players do it. He also went to a team that gives him a good chance of winning another Super Bowl. What makes it dumb are his reasons for leaving. Whenever an icon of a dynasty or really famous team leaves for more money, he will get booed.

Calm down, fellows. If you guys remember, the only loss the 1985 Bears had was to the Dolphins, a game everyone thought Chicago will dominate.

Upsets happen. Your record has no indication as to how you're going to play in certain contexts or situations. Both Chicago and Atlanta are going to make the playoffs this year; all these games are are momentary lapses.

I have a hard time believing Atlanta will get into the playoffs.

I dont think he taunted at all, but if you're a field ref and you see him throw the ball towards the LB who just ran him out, you probably call that everytime.

Colts are 30-3 in there last 33 regular season games. Fuck we need a superbowl.

The Broncos are great except where it matters: quarterback. Last year was about as good as they're going to get. They'll make the playoffs this year, yeah, but unless they get home field advantage somehow, they aren't going anywhere.

ROFL. Don't forget... the Colts are going undefeated this year, too. 19-0.

But honestly, at this point, it's the absolute WORST time for the Colts to have a "Super Bowl" feel.

Now, if they still have that feel in 6 weeks without getting ass raped by Shawne "Lights Out" Merriman and the Chargers, like they did last year, which was followed by James Dungy (lol) followed by Vanderjagt... then we'll talk.

But remember: Last year, the Steelers didn't have the Super Bowl feel, either. Until they ran the board for the last half of the season and the playoffs. Momentum is a huge thing, and when you start strong, it's almost impossible to keep that momentum going for 22 weeks. (Reg season Bye, First round Bye, Superbowl week included)

Man Strahan out 2-4 weeks, possibly longer. This blows, this is the same shit that happened to us last year.

As far as I know we have injuries to Osi, Strahan, Madison, Tuck, Short, Arrington and thats just on defense. Plaxico didn't play this week against Houston because of back spasms (I assume he'll be back) and even Toomer was hobbling around at one point during that game. I swear if this season gets fucked by injuries again I'm going on a rampage.
