I want to believe that the Bears are going 3-0 on this road trip...

But the Pats looked pissed off against the Pack on sunday.

I dunno I think the Jags are just ridiculously good at home for some reason. I thikn they are like 5-1 at home, 1-3 on the road or something. They destroyed the Jets 41-0 before and now fucked up the Giants.

Giants def should have run the ball more though. It is kinda retarded. Eli was doing terrible but they only ran the ball like 10 times all game despite it being pretty close throughout.

Joey Slugs

Haven't the Jags been like one of toughest home teams since they came into the league?

Eli Manning is just not that good

I think thats a fair assumption at this point in part, but if you really wanna know whats wrong with the Giants you have to have watched them all season.

The playcalling on both sides of the ball is terrible, any fan would be able to notice that. The coaching is just absent when it needs to be there the most.

I'm certainly not defending Eli in any repsect because he has played horrible, but he isn't getting much help. The poor throws, staring down receivers, lack of leadership on his part are all his responsibility, but if you were a Giants fan you'd realize what was going on here in NY.

Too many times players have ripped the coaching and it is clearly evident that something needs to change. Tiki Barber ripped the coaching on his radio show today again.

Gonzo
11-21-2006, 09:30 PM
For example:

Eli is playing terrible, so with 7:26 left in the third we go into a shotgun offense but to no avail. Lets pass more with your QB having one of his worst games ever?

We have one of the premier backs in the NFL and he ran only about 10 times for 27 yards? That is what I'm getting at with the playcalling, it fucking sucks.

Yeah, run your 180 pound back at John Henderson and Marcus Stroud some more, that sounds like a good idea.

Not to be "that guy" but I've seen a lot of Giants games because they are always shown here (I think its because most old dudes in this area are Giants fans since the Patriots have only been around for only a little over 40 years) and I've just really not been that impressed with him. I think if his last name was something other than Manning he would have another QB in New York breathing down his neck waiting to get his job. Obviously they got some issues but they still have Burress, Shockey (bit overrated but still a real good recieving TE) and Barber on offense, so he shouldn't look like a scared 14 year old when he's out there.

How does any of that count towards how tough he is? Because he didnt know his spleen was ruptured, makes him less tougher?

LOL Less tougher.

But the answer is yes. The question has always been, how mentally tough is Chris Simms?

Had he known he had a ruptured spleen, he wouldn't have gone back out there. If they told him "You're fine, it's just a contusion," he could have gone out like nothing happened.

You ever smash your finger or slice your arm open and not realize that it hurts until you see it?

I dropped a 50 pound boulder on my finger while I was wearing cloth gloves. I noticed blood dripping off of the glove, took it off and realized my fingertip had been split open like a grape. Then I realized that it hurt.

However, I do NOT have another man's name tattooed on my leg. That automatically defaults Chris Simms from manhood right there. He and Esera Toualo should hang out.

Nah, like I said a lot of blame has to fall on Eli's shoulders, I don't disagree. Even though we have the potential to be a very potent offense it doesn't equate to anything because we don't use it right, which is both Eli's fault and the coaching.

If you watched the Jags game, you would've seen Burress give up on some routes/plays, which he tends to do when he gets frustrated. Shockey, lately, has rarely seen the ball coming his way (I don't think he is overrated by any means, underused definitely. He has good blocking ability now from what I've noticed and has developed into a pretty well rounded TE.) We only ran one of the NFL's best backs 10 or so times (and continued to run up the middle at the league's two best DT's, HB Sweep anyone?)

There really are so many more problems than most people realize here in NY, the casual fan doesn't see it and gets the perception that its 100% Eli. The coaching is equally at fault, but theres no excuses no matter who you're blaming. It just pisses me off as a fan because I think most people would agree that a healthy Giants team should be able to hang with any other team in the league (which is also what pisses me off, injuries) but oh well.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
11-22-2006, 11:37 AM
Yeah I'm not blaming it on Eli, but I just don't think he is ever going to be that good of a QB. He just doesn't look like he has "it"

I could be wrong, but its been like 3 years now hasn't it? Dude is still "developing" while the guy he was traded for sat on the bench for 2 years and is now playing a lot better then Eli ever has. Granted Rivers has Tomlinson, but he just looks a lot more comfortable playing QB in the NFL. Eli is lucky to have the name Manning because he really isn't anything special IMO

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

He has the initials of his best friend on his lower leg.

The guy in question is Kyle Shanahan (son of Mike Shanahan). He was a WR at UT, a quality control coach on the Bucs, and is now a WR coach for the Texans.

Plus.... there are 4 guys who got the ink done not just Simms.

And part of Bean's arguement is that this some how makes him less manly?

I have to question when people say this. Like, does watching a player play for two years actually make them better, as in watching their technique? But if you're in the NFL anyway you already have coaches that coach you on that kind of thing all the time. I mean, I've seen Tiger Woods hit a golf ball many times before, but I can't do what he does by just looking at him. Look at Tony Romo: just by the way he handles himself in the pocket you can tell that he didn't learn a whole bunch from Drew Bledsoe.

I think in River's situation he had a combination of natural skill, time, a good coaching staff, and a running game that can be depended on more than the passing game (not to mention a good defense as well). And, from what I've seen, his team is well rounded enough so that he does not have to force balls into awkard coverages to make some plays, something you see rookies on bad teams like Matt Leinart and Vince Young do all the time.

Either way, San Diego lucked out with his play this year.

CUTLER ERA COMING?
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Broncos are likely to bench quarterback Jake Plummer (http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9823256) and go with first-round rookie Jay Cutler on December 3.

Per Schefter, the Broncos would have made the switch from Plummer to Cutler for Thursday night's game at Kansas City, but with only four days between games there wasn't enough time to get him ready.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan previously said that Cutler would not play this year. But with the Broncos out of first place after a loss at home to the Chargers, Shanahan apparently has realized that Plummer has taken the team as far as he can.

I think it's more the intangibles like how he conducts himself, good habits to get into like knowing what to look for when watching film, stuff like that. Brees isn't the most naturally gifted QB but he's made the most of what he has through hard work, stuff like that can rub off.

RP
11-23-2006, 09:02 AM
He was thought of as the most NFL ready QB to come out in that draft, so its not suprising i guess. It also helps when you have Tomlinson in your backfield. Takes a whole lot of pressure off. Trust me, no one is really game planning Rivers that hard. They're gameplanning the hell out of Tomlinson.

Agreed. Although Eli didn't play until the last 3 or 4 games of his rookie season, he has had a full season last year and will have a full season this year. I think at this point he should be maturing to the point of a good NFL QB, if he has that ability. I'm beginning to think he doesn't have that because of his play lately but I can always hold out hope.

For what its worth, I think that the Giants coaching staff could use an overhaul, which may contribute to his progress. Who knows? :-\

I'll tell you what. Our offense has major problems with the 3-4 sometimes. We're gunna have to look at that problem. Thats kinda why i didnt mind losing to the Cowboys. They play the 3-4 and woke us up early with it. I'm pretty sure my Colts will be prepared this year for the playoffs. Its not gunna be one of these " not showing up til the second half " games.

I think 3 teams can beat Indy in the AFC playoffs. New England, Chargers, and the Ravens. But you have to remember. We can beat them too. Right now, the AFC is wide open. Theirs so many good teams around the same area. Colts have the best record and they have the wins to back it up, but that havent really show any reason to think that they are better then the Chargers right now. This Charger team is stacked. They're tough.

You're fucking stupid I'm not gonna not like a because I don't live near them. I live in syracuse we have no Team in the NFL. And just because I like one team does not mean I'm going to not root for any other team. That's like saying "Oh I'm a hip-hop fan so I can't like any Rock"

The reason why I don't like the Saints is because of week 3 this year. ESPN was saying crap like "Oh the saints deserve this for what they went through with Katrina. No one is rooting for atlanta"

Fuck the Saints.

"States" and "cities" are two different things, Paul..

Are you saying that sporting events should have no emotional impact on it's fans??

Sports, in general, are one of the most emotional things around.. Sports figures give regular people hope.. It's an awesome feeling to be a part of something bigger than yourself..

How can you argue this??

How can you hate on a feel good story about an underachieving team, turning around their losing ways to uplift an entire community??

You are an asshole..

I don't think Plummer being benched is a bad move at all. He wasn't gonna take you anywhere with the way he was playing , and if Shanahan isn't confident in his qb why is he going to keep playing him when Plummer limits his play calling. Might as well check out what you have in Cutler...now if he comes in and absolutley tanks for the first couple of games..then it'll be looked at as a bad move, but for now I think they know that Plummer isn't the answer and they will take their chances with Cutler.

I hope he succeeds, and I hope Gradkowski does better. I want the NFL to tell the Vikings, "hey... it's ok to bench an old fucker to bring in new blood. It's not the end of the world."

I'm actually kind of confused about the win today. Had we lost, it'd be one more nail in Johnson's coffin. But a win is a win... but winning means Brad Johnson will start for us one more game... and that is not something I want to see.

Maroney is gonna be something special though, I can see him being the starting running back for the Patriots for a while, Addai will be right up there too. I said the same thing weeks ago after the Bucs game.. I don't care that he hasn't run for 1200 yard and doesn't have 22 TD's on the season, as long as D's bite on play action.. He is the biggest decoy in the NFL.. Running him (with Deuce) in splitbacks (which they did yesterday), confusing D's.. Running him at wideout or the slot can do the same thing.. Motioning him from WR to the backfield, etc etc etc.. So much you can do with him, just to confuse D's.. And with that type of decoy with an arm like Brees, with our outstanding recieving corps, equals good offense.. Then you have Deuce for the "power" yard, with a great backup in Arron Stecker.. When your QB puts up over 400 yards in the air, all you need the run game to do is to draw off pass coverage, which Reggie Bush does nicely..

Who Dat??

p.s. that rookie RB for the Giants is a stud too..

If Peyton Manning or Tom Brady walked off the field after a bad game and flipped there fans off, the media ( mostly ESPN ) would go insane. Cowboys cut Vanderjac and signed Martin Gramatica..

It'd be funny if when Gramatica got the call, he jumped up and down with joy, and torn his ACL..

Again..

Now, I only love them 75% because of Shawne "Lights Out" Merriman.

Just a random thought, but why does the NFL constantly recycle coaches? It seems like a guy has a few shitty years gets fired, then he becomes a TV analyst for a few years then he's a huge prospect for a job.

Just saw the link to this myself. Fucking sweet indeed, I've been using the NFL game pass to stream online but a) I have to pay for it and b) I can't watch the games that Sky cherrypick, which are normally the best ones.

Now I can watch SF - NO and DEN - SEA on Sunday, for free

Dear Cowboys:

As a current student who has atteneded every football game, I must tell you that you should draft Nick Folk. Dude is a beast. He can blast 70yd FGs with no problem. If you don't believe me, he is also an All-American. SO DO IT.

Love, Joey.

checked out the jets/packers game, 38-10. NYJ defense is tight, topped with Favre's lack of accuracy for long passes this game (perhaps he didn't have many options). And Pennington is pretty decent.
