If you people think I'm being a homer, you are right.
I also told myself not to give into the Arizona hype before this offseason, so I'm going to stick with my gut on that one.
I also think that the New York Giants could even make it to the Super Bowl (in fact, I would say that they are the fourth most likely team to do that in the NFC this year). But, there is going to have to be one team that underperforms in that division this year, and my prediction is them, them or Washington or Philadelphia.
I took the pussy route on teams like Oakland and Houston, since predicting their sucktitude compared to other teams in their division is near impossible.

They play the same schedule as the Steelers pretty much so who's to say they won't do it? With Carson the Bengals can beat any team in the league. Without him they'd probably get torched by the 49ers.

NFC East is easily the best division in football, but I still have to give the nod to the Giants. It's just so close that you almost have to pick the team who won the previous year. Of all the teams, I think they have the least flaws. All 11 offensive starters returning is gonna be huge if you ask me. Gonna be a fun year and September 10th can't get here soon enough.

Patriots are leagues better than Miami, trust me.
This is more about everyone sucking New England's dick for so long than them actually being better than anyone.
Could they win the AFC East? Of course they could. But the fact that anyone could actually say that they might not, undermining the wonderful "genius" of Bill Belichick, is now a taboo in football.
If the Patriots were in, say, New Orleans, people would have stopped caring for them a long time ago.

I still think the Patriots are better than Miami, the team has definetly got a huge upgrade at the QB position though so we'll see.

AFC Championship
Indianapolis vs Chowds
NFC Championship
Packers vs Giants

I'm basically picking the Colts based on the fact that they have to win sometime right? Oh yah and Bob Sanders.

Hubris.
The Patriots have lived past their shelf life and it's time for another team to step up and take that division.
Also, why is everyone so quick to put Carolina in the Super Bowl?
Yes, they probably will be a good team and be in the mix to be the best NFC team, but I don't see anything that makes them ridiculously better than what they were the last couple of years.
They kinda look like a shell of that Super Bowl team they had three years ago in my opinion.
great offense great defense. Makes sense to me.
DrA I wouldn't be surprised if we see TO and Parcells go at it. I bet TO will do something to piss Parcells off and we have them say shit about each other on TV. It seems inevitable.
All reports I've heard say that TO has actually been a good guy to work with in the locker room.
The whole TO/Parcells thing is just going to be one of those things that the media is going to scrutinize and take out of proportion all year long. I'm not saying that nothing will happen, but it's unlikely at this point.
great offense great defense. Makes sense to me.
Apparently so does Seattle. Washington. New York Giants. Dallas. Atlanta. Chicago. What makes Carolina so much better than all of these teams?
Dont worry about it. Packers are coming out of the NFC.

If Jenkins can stay healthy, their D-line = Rucker, Jenkins, Kemoeatu (sp) and Peppers. NOBODY will be able to compare to that.
I don't know much about DeAngelo Williams cause I've never followed college ball but from everything I've read he can and most likely will be the real deal once Foster inevitably gets injured. Throw in Keyshaun to actually catch some passes opposite Smith, Delhomme almost always performs in postseason, and Fox's coaching track record, and yeah I think they might be on to something.

Yeah, why would anyone think they're good enough to make it to the Super Bowl??
I'm not saying they can't do well in the playoffs or even go to the Super Bowl. The thing is that every preseason prediction (I'm not exaggerating; every) has them going to the Super Bowl over every other team in the NFC. They're getting Philadelphia hype from two years ago and St. Louis hype from five years ago, but considering how much more supposed competition there is in the NFC than two years ago, I don't see Carolina as being, as of today, the unanimously best team in the NFL (although they looked really impressive in the preseason and all I'm working with right now is what speculation.)
I hope I cleared that up, sort of. Give me a week or two to see some games before I can actually give comments with validity.

Apparently, because of their new stadium and all of that, the Arizona Cardinals got to choose any team they wanted to play in the opening game, so they chose San Francisco.
That's such a low rent thing to do. If I was going to have my team play a team in a brand new stadium, it would be a team that would actually be worth beating.
Just watch, this is going to curse the franchise and it will be another two hundred years before they win their first play-off game.

Even though we lost I was pretty happy with the game the Lions played. Like I mean Seattle was heavily favored, and they just won by the FG at the end. Shaun mofucking Rogers is a beast. As usual though the offense didn't help anyrthing. I kinda like Kitna though, like he played a solid game, consistent and didn't fuck up really.

I mean, I've had such a shitty year this year, with my only shread of optimism being that the Cowboys would actually, I don't know, NOT MISS SOME FIELD GOALS AND COMPLETE SOME PASSES at least in the first game of the year.

As it does me. Regardless of all the other intangibles that can be brought up we didn't really capitalize when we should have. We had 3 dropped INT's, and a number of penalties on the offensive side of the ball, from the false starts, to the delay of game or two, to Plaxico's few blocking penalties. All that kind of shit has to be gone if we're going anywhere this season.

Some thoughts about this week:
Trip, the KC/Bengals game was in HD. Looked damn good, too. CBS did that right, at least.
Speaking of CBS, the hell was with its sleek graphics package? It was like, yesterday it was lame and boring, and then today they have things flashing everywhere and flying every which way. It was looking nice and everything (and I do like that the new look, albiet they need to start using the complete line type scoreboard that FOX, NBC, and ABC use now), and they finally emphesize that a touchdown was actually SCORED), but are we going to be getting headaches from how flashy their new package is? And when the hell did CBS suddenly discover the type of graphics technology that FOX has used all these years? They seemed to have some problems with it, though. Some technical glitches, but nothing major. And when did James Brown move to CBS? He seemed somewhat out of place with those other guys.
That hit that Trent Green took that made him get that concussion was nasty, and while I too don't think it was a dirty hit, it's not a hit you want to take, and I do hope he doesn't have anything serious going on. On the worst side, if he's out for the season, then unless whoever the hell his name was actually brings it to another level, the Chief's season is done.
The Steelers look great again, regardless of who their QB is. Big Ben should be back to play in the next game, but Batch did fine. They should be favorites to go to the playoffs this year, too.
NFL rules don't allow networks to stay with a switched-to game past 4:15PM if it goes that far? What in the FUCK? Stay with the game until the end, regardless of when you switched over to the other game (for those like me who are too poor or too cheap to get any of those NFL cable packages). Didn't the NFL learn its lesson from the "Heidi" fiasco? Who comes up with these rules? Must be the same people who came up with the touchdown celebrations rule? Let the players PLAY and have FUN doing it.

Actually, looking at the replay, the CBS guy was right. Green's concussion came from hitting the ground the way he did. The Bengals' defender couldn't stop once Green went down (in other words, it was incidental).
I don't think the Bengals had to do such a thing anyway. The Chiefs weren't playing that great even with Green there.

Patriots didn't look that good today so I don't know but I'm still going with them.
My first impression of my Colts.
1) We have no running game. I dont know if eventually they will get better, Addai looked great occasionally. He caught some passes and seemed to fit alot better then Rhodes did. If we cant run the ball and Manning still manages to put up huge numbers and put us in a number 1 or 2 seed, he's MVP hands down.
2) We cant stop the run. We got blown off the line all night. Barber gashed us. Jacobs ran us over. It was really pathetic. BAD BOB SANDERS! BADDD. If we dont learn to stop the run and we get run over like that week in and week out, we'll be lucky to make a wildcard.
3) Adam Vinateiri is sick. Bad foot and he's still kicking feild goals from 45 yards like its nothing. If that was Vandejackass, we would have lost that game.
4) Special teams was outstanding.
5) Peyton threw some questionable balls that should have been picked, but given his track record, i'll go ahead and say that was rust. He'll get alot sharper against the Houston Pushovers next week.
6) Marvin Harrison quietly couldnt be covered by anyone on the Giants and probably will have a huge season this year with a shakey running game.
PI was bullshit, might have cost the giants the game. aside all the off penalties, i think the giants looked pretty good.

First of all. Shame on NBC for only having one camera angle for the PI play. It was obvious to me that the recievers arm and shoulder came up and made contact. Did it make enough contact to bother Nick Harper? Nope. Harper lost his balance plain and simple. But if you're a field judge watching that play and you see the guys elbow and shoulder come up and make contact, you're throwing that flag every single time. Doesnt matter how much contact there was. It's a split second decision.
I'm pretty sure that one play didnt cost the Giants the game. Giants had tons of problems.
Brandon Jacobs is a monster. My god.

Agreed.
Brandon Jacobs is a monster. My god.
Another thing I did realize: The Giants were playing some pretty vanilla zone coverages against Peyton. That is a bad idea, the dude is a Hall of Fame QB and is going to tear up a zone defense 99% of the time, especially with the weapons he had. We never had enough pressure, never got there when we brought it and I think that is a testament that the Indy OLine is pretty good.

Deion Branch IS worth a first rounder because he would be a first rounder. I mean you don't wanna go by what he was like back when he was drafted. He is a number 1 receiver and is worth it. I mean look at Tom Brady, he was a sixth round draft pick FFS.

That Deion Branch tells me that Seattle is not secure about their receiver position this year. Just from reading the "context clues", I am assuming that Darrell Jackson is not in very good shape right now.

Everyone was calling the Patriots scumbags when they didn't take a 2nd rounder, but look what happened. Now they have a first round pick and won't be overpaying a wide out. Kinda sucks though since they really have no wideouts, Troy Brown is like 80 years (don't get me wrong still the man) but you can't except him to be a #1..which he is right now :-\

And i'm pretty sure Deion Branch has never caught more then 75- 78 balls and 5 touchdowns and 850 yards in a season. He's not worth a number one pick. Not even if its a 31st pick. He's so overhyped its unbelievable. The stats dont lie. Go look. He's pretty much capitalizing on his superbowl rings. And thats fine cause New England found the sucker. The sucker being Seattle.

He was 2 yards away from 1000 last season - plus I am sure the Seahawks liked his 153 yard performance in the Denver game.
Still though, who decides who is worth a first round pick? To me, a draft pick is a risk where as picking up someone like Branch is not. Look at how many first round busts their have been. I realize a lot of NFL franchises don't think like this for whatever reason but I kinda disagree with their thinking, Bengals traded Corey Dillon for a 2nd round pick a few years ago. Completely retarded if you ask me, I'd take a 1,500 yard season in exchange for a 2nd round pick anyday.
Branch has had a pretty low TD total during his career, doesn't make much sense to me since in 2004 he only played 9 games and had 4 TDs, then in '05 he played 16 games and only had 1 more.
Yah i'm sorry. 998 yards last season and 5 tds on 78 catches. All career highs.

If I were a GM, I'd say 2nd round tops.

I was one of the people who voted in ESPN.com's poll yesterday saying that the Patriots got the better deal. Most people voted that they both did, but taking on a player who wants to be making more money than he is worth, especially one who is not a game changer a la Moss, TO, Johnson, etc., is not something I would have wanted to do. The only thing, the Seahawks will probably have a pretty low draft pick, but even so. The Pats should be back in a year or two.

Patriots have no wide recievers right now though, so while they might have gotten 1st round pick for Branch that 1st rounder isn't gonna do shit for them this season. Hopefully Chad Jackson can get on the field at somepoint, but its starting to look like he has University of Florida WR diease (aka not doing shit in the NFL)
They do have some real nice tight ends, but that only take you so far. Watson, Graham and the rookie David Thomas are pretty formitable trio of TEs plus they have H-Back/TE Garrett Miles so could develop as well

Well it's still too early in the season to tell so we'll see. Maybe Reche Caldwell can step up and become a number 1 receiver, it doesn't look that way but you never know with the Pats.

The thing about the Pats though, they might not even need a #1 receiver as long as they believe they have their system guy. So we'll just have to see.

I really don't see how the Seahawks are getting screwed in this deal though, i mean yeah the 1st rounder is tought to trade but who knows who the pick coulda been. Check out the Seahawks top 4 wide reciever now though, who the fuck is gonna be able to cover that?

That is misleading, because it implies that the Patriots did have a reciever before the trade. Branch was a holdout, he wasn't going to play this year because the Pats weren't going to do that. You can essentially say that they got a first round draft pick for nothing, because that is what Branch was essentially.
I don't think the Seahawks got screwed, Branch can be a good reciever and is the type of guy that can really help them, but because Branch wasn't going to play this season anyway, I think the Pats got a hell of a deal for him.

I know but then I'd also have to throw in San Francisco and St. Louis. Anyway, I won all my 1:00 games except Carolina/Minnesota and all of my 4:00 teams are winning right now so it could be my lucky week.

Please get rid of Pink's version of the Sunday Night Football theme song. Better yet, have a theme song that doesn't have any words. Thank you.
