Question... (apart from the Gary Shaw one i'd like an answer to..)
Where does anyone here think has the most accurate MMA rankings on the internet?
I really don't go for rankings.. Specially overall rankings.. I mean, how do you compare a guy like Urijah Faber to Fedor and vice versa..
Fabien Barthez
10-11-2008, 02:06 PM
I was thinking the same thing, but a guy like Forrest Griffin wouldn't be scared to fight twice in 60 or 90 days..
I mean alot of these guys used to fight multiple times in one night..
Yeah, Forrest wouldn't be scared, but he will probably be on medical suspension after the fight, which could fuck everything up.
To pull it off, they would have to protect all their champions for at least 3 months prior.
Also, I meant weightclass rankings, not P4P. I just don't think Sherdog is a true reflection of results and performance, just who they think is good right now.

I usally look at MMAWeekly's rankings... However, I make my own rankings as nerdy as that is. I'm still working out the kinks in my ranking system.

Thinking about UFC 100 another reason that might not happen is time restraints..
At UFC 33 they had 3 title fights that all went the distance.. Sure Pulver, Tito, and Menne aren't "finishers like Nog, Forrest, and Penn..
I don't think they'll do more than three or maybe four title fights..

Pretty excited tonight, we're running (well, Carolina Fight Promotions) the 5th card in Raleigh since we legalized MMA. 14 cards, I'm cornering two of the guys from out camp tonight. Met Matt Sera last night too (he's the special guest for the event). Gonna be fun. Also, I got cleared by our athletic commission to start fighting again.
Absolutely will not happen. If they did 5 title fights in one night, there is a very good chance the show could go over 3 hours for a start and you wouldn't have a title shot in your next 2 or 3 PPV's minimum. Maybe more. And how do you decide what title fight is main event? I'd be pissed if I'm Anderson Silva, Big Nog, Forrest Gump, GSP or BJ Penn and I had to go first.

You picking Mir??
HeartBreakMan2k
10-11-2008, 08:36 PM
Personal hope says Mir, but beyond that I think if they have Couture/Lesnar vs Nog/Mir before than I don't see Nog beating either of them either. Yes, I know Lesnar is green as hell and prone to getting tapped by someone that fuckin good on the ground.
Really? I can see Noguiera submitting all three of them.

10-11-2008, 09:02 PM
Oh I can definitely see that scenario as well. Mir is a gut feeling in all honesty (plus a little bit of bias in general), but I genuinely think that Courture would beat Nog, and there's a part of me that thinks Brock could overwhelm Nog if he stays patient.
That being said, I do agree... i can see Nog subbing on three too. Those are just my picks though.

10-11-2008, 09:35 PM
Nog over Mir via rear naked choke in the forth..
Lesnar over Couture by TKO by ref stoppage in the third..
I like all four, but would like to see Lesnar vs Nog.. I just think with the damage Lesnar can potentially put out, in addition to the damage we know Nog can take would make for a very compelling match for any fan..

Andrei Arlovski will return to Affliction to battle current WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko at the organization's second event, "Day of Reckoning," according to Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio.
MMARated. com was the first to report the news.
According to the report, the official announcement -- as well as exact details of the date, location and main card fights -- will be released sometime next week.
"Day of Reckoning" was originally scheduled to be held Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. That event was rescheduled in light of a new partnership with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions -- although reports of slow ticket sales may also have factored into the decision.
Despite Golden Boy's new involvement with "Day of Reckoning," Atencio also confirmed that the event would feature MMA bouts only -- conflicting with Affliction's previous announcement that the event would involve both boxing and MMA.
"We sat down with them and couldn't come up with a main event boxing match that everyone wanted," Atenco told MMARated. com.
Previous reports have pointed to a Jan. 24 2009 date in Anaheim, Calif., as Affliction's likely target for a new date.
Arlovski was last seen successfully defeating IFL champion Roy Nelson at "EliteXC: Heat" on week ago. The bout was a co-promoted affair between Affliction and EliteXC.
Emelianenko last fought in July, making quick work of former UFC champion Tim Sylvia at Affliction's debut event, "Banned."

I think nog would crush Lesnar. Maybe three or four fights down the road and it might be another story, but right now I don't think so. Other than that I agree with you...except for the rear naked choke bit as there are WAY too many variables for me to pick a finish to any fight.

It must be bias or alcohol abuse if you think Mir will beat Noguiera. And keeping patient is one of Noguiera's best strengths. Look at the Tim Sylvia fight for a perfect example.

Jason Guida was on the Elite XC card last night.. He purposefully "dropped" his mouthpiece, to get a break, kicked it out of the cage so the ref couldn't find it, then slapped away a replacement mouthpiece and pushed the ref..

Brothers Ken and Frank Shamrock have sparred, both physically and verbally, for the better part of 15 years.
Older brother Ken, a UFC Hall of Famer, has said that younger brother Frank, a former UFC titleholder, is an ungrateful punk who disrespected their father, Bob.
Not to be outdone, Frank has accused Ken of guarding his turf with excessive zeal. He also accuses Ken of ruthlessly degrading him and labeling him a subpar talent.
In March, the mud slinging reached a different level of enmity, as Frank accused Ken of being a steroid abuser.
It comes as no surprise, then, that the brothers are on the cusp of settling the intra-familial drama that has simmered for so long. They have each signed a contract, in principle, to settle their family feud in a most public fashion: they will face off, in a cage, in a pay-per-view contest.
Ken Shamrock has no qualms about fighting his brother, Frank.
There are plenty of particulars to iron out, like the date (probably sometime in April), the venue (none has been chosen) and the promotional and broadcast partners to be involved (Elite XC, CBS, and Showtime, with perhaps some other co-promoters), before what is believed to be the first brother vs. brother faceoff in fight history becomes a 100 percent done deal.
"We've both signed a contract to fight each other," younger brother Frank Shamrock told ESPN.com. "Ken is down with it. We talked about it two years ago, and we've agreed materially to fight."
"Will the fight happen? Absolutely," Ken Shamrock told ESPN.com. "He's got a buttkicking coming to him. Everything I've learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I've still got love for Frank, but I'm angry at him."
Ken Shamrock, the 44-year-old UFC and WWE veteran, was supposed to take on Kimbo Slice in Florida on Oct. 4. A loser of his last five fight (all by KO or TKO), the Slice tussle was perceived by many as his final shot at a high-profile conquest. Six hours before the main event, however, Ken was rolling with a training partner, and after taking a bump on the head, some scar tissue over his left eye opened up. He needed six stitches to close a gash, and the Florida commission scratched him from the card.
This development put the Shamrock vs. Shamrock scrap on the front burner.
Frank, 35, last fought in March. He lost via TKO to Cung Le, and has fought only sporadically since 2000. If family bragging rights were to be hashed out, the fight had to be booked soon, so Frank is especially keen on making it happen.
The fight has a cool hook. Brothers beating each other up. Everyone wants to see that.
-- Frank Shamrock, on why fight fans would be interested in seeing him fight his brother Ken Shamrock
"The fight has a cool hook," Frank said. "Brothers beating each other up. Everyone wants to see that."
Elite XC head of operations Jeremy Lappen sees the promotional possibilities in a bro vs. bro throwdown. "They're talking about doing it and we're interested in the fight," he said. "It's a storyline everyone can relate to, Cain versus Abel."
The Shamrocks are adopted brothers; both were taken in by Bob Shamrock, who took on scads of troubled boys on his Susanville, Calif., ranch and mentored the wayward souls.
Ken was born Ken Kilpatrick. When he was 10, he bolted from the harsh discipline meted out by his stepfather and landed in Bob Shamrock's care. Almost immediately, he began to concentrate his energy on sports. He took up wrestling and, later, martial arts. In 1982, Bob adopted Ken and changed his adopted son's name to Shamrock.
Frank followed a similar path. Born Frank Juarez, he too chafed under the harsh rule of a stepfather. At 11, he left home and bounced around in group homes and foster homes. At 13, he landed at the Shamrock ranch, and also took the last name Shamrock in homage to the patriarch.
A rivalry began brewing in the mid-1990s. Ken debuted in Pancrase in 1993 and showed Frank the ropes. Thirteen months later, Frank appeared in Pancrase. By UFC 5 in April 1995, Ken was a top draw in the company. By December 1997, Frank owned the UFC's light heavyweight title. Man-sized egos were now in play, and there was jostling for supremacy. Whose methods were more sound? Whose legacy, at the end of the fighting days, would loom larger?
In 1997, a marked deterioration in the brother's relationship occurred. The brothers had a falling out, and since then, Ken has sided with Bob, and Frank has been on the outside looking in.
In his last fight, Frank Shamrock, right, suffered a loss to Cung Le.
Muddying the situation is Bob's health. He had a heart attack in September and has lived with type-2 diabetes. His condition worsened after the heart attack and several organs shut down, After several surgeries, he is awake.
Frank believes the presence of his father at the bout would be a vital component of the event.
"He's a big part of this story," Frank said. "He needs to be there. I'd be devastated if he weren't."
Frank and Bob hadn't talked in eight years before Frank visited him in the hospital in Reno, Nev.
Is there not a chance he'd be sad to see his sons battle it out?
"I think he'd be very happy," said Frank. "Listen, Ken and Bob both have amazing hearts. He [Bob"> took me off the streets and did the same for so many other kids. This story includes him."
Ken feels his dad will attend if healthy enough. Who would Bob pull for?
"I think he'd root for both of us," Ken said. "But I think he's disappointed in the way Frank has acted to him. My dad loves us both, but I think he'd like to see Frank taught a lesson."
Apart from the obvious desire to pull off a commercially successful event, Frank believes that it is important to share the legacy of the Shamrock name in MMA. He thinks that too many fans believe that the Zuffa-backed UFC is the A-Z of MMA, and wants to set that record straight.
Ken wants to set Frank straight.
"I'm a fighter, he's a fighter," Ken said. "He feels he's better than me, but I always spanked him in the gym. Now he wants to show me. I figured he'd wait until I was 50 years old, but I guess he's waiting until I turn 45."
For the record, Cain defeated Abel via first round KO in their scrap. Brothers have been going at it for many a moon. If only pay-per-view was around in their day

Josh Koscheck replaces Diego Sanchez at UFC 90 (http://mmajunkie.com/news/13012/josh-koscheck-replaces-diego-sanchez-at-ufc-90.mma)
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Oct 13, 2008 at 8:38 pm ET
An injury suffered in training has forced top welterweight contender Diego Sanchez (19-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) out of a highly anticipated bout with Thiago Alves (15-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) at "UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote." With less than two weeks until the event, fellow top welterweight Josh Koscheck (11-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) has stepped in to fill the void.
Our friends at fiveouncesofpain.com (http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2008/10/13/sanchez-out-of-ufc-90-match-up-with-thiago-alves/) were the first to report the change, and MMAjunkie.com (http://mmajunkie.com/) (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the news with sources close to the bout.
UFC 90, which features a main event between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Canadian slugger Patrick Cote, takes place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
Sanchez suffered an injury to his ribs in training last week. A time table for his return has not been announced.
Koscheck had recently been tabbed for a main event bout with Yoshiyuki Yoshida at the UFC's "Fight for the Troops" on Dec. 10. It is unknown at this time whether Koscheck will still participate in the December outing.
The bout between Sanchez and Alves was viewed as a No. 1 contender bout, determining who would meet the winner of a January welterweight title clash between Georges St. Pierre and B.J. Penn. Koscheck will now look to earn that position on short notice.
For the latest news about UFC 90 (http://mmajunkie.com/event/132/ufc-90.mma), check out the UFC Rumors (http://mmajunkie.com/Events.aspx?rumors) section of MMAjunkie.com.

Yeah, I don't see how you could have mounted, since half his flab was squashed against the cage. I thought you did really well to re-position him, since he was clearly just trying to block any damage and sit against the fence.
Believe me when I say I am trying to take nothing away from you, because you fought a sick fight, but it looked to me, when you were trying for position, you thought to yourself, this guy isn't even trying to attack, and thats when you started raining bombs, and again when you went to FM, you must have been thinking, this guy isn't even trying to guard that much.
It must be awesome to dominate like that in your first fight, against a guy who was pretty fucking big, but you must be eager for much stiffer competiton than him, right?

In other UFC 89 news:
From MMAweekly
UFC 89: Bisping vs Leben / Press Conference
The press conference for UFC 89 had a very relaxed feel to it with minimal tension between the fighters and an air of calm that belies the nature of what the main protagonists will get up to on Saturday night. UFC U.K. president Marshall Zelaznik addressed the accumulated press with a mixture of pride and excitement ahead of Saturday’s event.
“This is the most Euro heavy fight card the UFC has ever put on and it really shows the commitment to the market expansion plans we have” he stated, before adding that the plans aren’t limited solely to England and that “Tickets go on sale tomorrow at the fight club for the January 17 event in Dublin”.
True to word previous statements on Euro expansion, Zelaznik added that in 2009, the promotion has strong chances of touching down in Italy, Germany and possibly Finland, as the Nordic country emerges as a front runner to host an event.
The showdown between tough Liverpudlian Paul Kelly and “The Irish Hand Grenande” Marcus Davis is as good a place as any to start with the respectful exchanges. “Kelly looks younger and stronger, but we will have to see… I have studied some tapes on him from my connections here in the U.K. and I am definitely prepared to put on a good show” commented Davis.
Kelly appeared content to let his fighting do the talking on Saturday and simply stated that “I am looking forward to another fight of the night” – and presumably the bonus it entails.
A very classy Brandon Vera addressed the crowd with nothing but respect for his opponent Keith Jardine, acknowledging the dangers of his opponent’s fighting style and also the prospect of a win being one step forward for the victor and three steps back for his opponent. “Keith is a very tough guy… and I am sure that we will find out a lot about each other during our fight until one of us get’s knocked out”.
Keith Jardine said the fight with Vera was something he couldn’t turn down and relished the opportunity “to take a bonus or two away from Marcus Davis” adding that styles make fights and that the encounter with Vera was a classic case of “Beauty versus the Beast”.
The main event fighters Chris Leben and Michael Bisping- who exchanged little in the way of glances up until the face-off at the end. Leben appeared to be calm and relaxed and gave a slight hint that he may not be solely banging with the Brit by commenting, “I don’t know if I will knock him out or submit him… but it will be an exciting fight”.
Bisping by contrast painted a picture of it being another day in the office. “I don’t have to fire myself up for this fight, winning fights provides me with the means to have the lifestyle I want for my family".

It'll be a war either way..
I can't see a guy who lost convincingly to Kalib Starnes beating Michael Bisping to be honest. As long as Bisping doesn't take a monster clean shot, he should win this no problem.

He also lost to J-Mac, who will never be a top guy but has the skills to have a victory over him mean something. MacDonald lost to Demien Maia in a match where I figured he would be beaten in the first round. He lost in the third to an RNC, after trading submissions with Maia for most of the fight.
I like MacDonald a lot and he impressed me greatly against Meia. Leben probably should have beaten him though but MacDonald is definitely proven to be a better fighter. I think him vs. Bisping is a better fight to be honest but they have lined up Bisping against enough jujitsu fighters and obviously want to test him against a striker.
Vastardikai
10-16-2008, 08:55 PM
That would be a more realistic test for Bisping, as MacDonald is probably #3 in the list of Jujitsu guys at 185 (behind Meia and Silva). At the same time, I think beating a striker would be better for Bisping.
I am not sure if he'll be doing the next TUF (though he likely will), but Bisping could be one to two wins from being in the top tier at 185, especially if he beats Leben with the ease he beat Day and the other guy he beat into retirement.
I'm pretty excited for this show now. Heading off now. Probably won't make the weigh ins today but oh well.

Michael Bisping will be the UK team captain on season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter, UFC president Dana White has confirmed.
Speaking to Fighters Only at the UFC 89 weight-ins earlier, he said that Bisping would be the UK captain regardless of the result against Chris Leben tomorrow night.
“Win, lose or draw, he will coach the British team,” White revealed.
UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, standing nearby interjected: “Although if Bisping walks through Leben like he has his other opponents, that is going to be interesting.”
When then revealed that Bisping’s opposite number on TUF 9 will be either Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson.
“We’re looking for the right fight,” he said, explaining that the chosen coach would have to be a “step up” from Bisping’s previous opponents.
Asked if Henderson and Franklin were the two names on the shortlist, he confirmed: “That is who we are looking at.”
Franklin is a former UFC middleweight champion, while Henderson held both the middleweight and light-heavyweight belts in PRIDE FC.
Love to see Bisping vs Hendo..

Oh no! Somebody has posted some results! Of a UFC PPV! In the MMA THREAD!?! That is worthy of a neg rep!
You know, I would hate you so much more if you weren't so blaitantly stupid.
Anyway, MMA.
I keep reading Bisping getting a bad rap for saying he was fighting for the decision. What a pile of bullshit. I'm not the biggest Bisping fan ever, but an intelligent fighter won't stand infront of Chris Leben for the full 15 minutes, just waiting for his lucky punch. He is going to use his skills to work around it, whilst causing damage.
Bottom line, Bisping has got a Marquee value to protect, and standing in front of a wild swinger and getting knocked out would not have been productive towards putting food on the table. He fought a sound stratagy and in 6-12 months time, he is just going to be better.
Most impressive performance from the Count thus far, by a long haul.
Get your flabby arse home Harvey and throw us a report from the cheapseats. :D
I'm home now. Still kinda hungover from a late night.
I don't know how it came off on TV but I thought the main card kinda sucked. Main event saved it. Bisping fought the perfect fight against someone like Leben. Fuck anyone saying anything else. I thought Paul Taylor could beat Lytle going in but I thought he lost. Some others thought he won though. I thought Vera beat Jardine too. I gave him the first two rounds easily. Aside from the takedown in the first, he didn't do much. Vera did well on his back. What did Joe Rogan say when I booed Jardine in the interview? My section popped so I didn't hear it. I was half pished by then too.
Gono's entrance is the greatest thing I've ever seen in MMA. Shame his record sucks. Dan Hardy was very good too. I don't know what did and didn't air on TV though. Terry Etim was awesome too.
Ask me if other details are needed. I'm off to find something with sugar in it.

A lot of people might of had thier first experience with MMA through this promotion in America and this is what they see. what are these people more likely to read about or see on TV on in the coming days/weeks, the UFC PPV card for November's fight or CBS's Elite XC closing it's doors? it's ashame really.

ProElite, Inc., parent company of Elite Xtreme Combat, is throwing in the towel on mixed martial arts.
Several sources MMAWeekly.com spoke to said notifications had been sent out on Monday informing managers that the company was ceasing its fight promotion operations by the end of this week and it had begun the process of letting its employees go. One source even said that ProElite had already begun clearing out its corporate offices.
EliteXC’s remaining show scheduled for Nov. 8 in Reno, Nevada has been canceled. The card was due to be broadcast on Showtime networks, EliteXC’s original broadcast partner since the company’s formation in November of 2006.
Industry sources on Saturday informed MMAWeekly.com that ProElite made a last ditch effort to salvage its assets by selling off portions of the company, including fighter contracts and the satellite promotions it acquired in 2007.
The company had accrued over $55 million in debt in its twenty-four months of operations. Though its third CBS-televised offering, Oct. 4’s “Heat,” was looked at as a ratings success by EliteXC and CBS executives, the company's financial position had become untenable in recent months.
In an August SEC filing, EliteXC disclosed they were seeking 3.5 million dollars to fund operations through the end of the year. Only a month later, another SEC filing said they had received only $1 million in funding, provided by Showtime networks.
Elite CEO Chuck Champion last month told MMAWeekly.com that the Showtime loan came after two principal investors in the company had elected not to provide the $3.5 million "bridge financing."
An SEC filling dated Oct. 9 revealed that CBS had funded "Heat" due to ProElite's inability to pay for the show.
Multiple calls to EliteXC and Showtime representatives on Monday went unreturned, although EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw told MMAWeekly.com on Saturday he had no comment on the matter.
Although EliteXC now is out of the picture, that doesn't necessarily mean that CBS and Showtime are out of the MMA business. Sources have indicated that, having worked with Affliction Entertainment to add Andrei Arlovski and Roy Nelson to the "Heat" event (both are Affliction fighters), there is now the distinct possibility that CBS may look towards a relationship with Affliction to fill the void left by EliteXC's exodus.
Supposedly, CBS is interested in a deal with UFC also.. Either Affliction or UFC would be better than EXC..

1 - Alves vs. Koscheck fight is winner gets title shot. If Koscheck wins, he doesn't even have to take the December fight to get the title shot although he probably will. He is getting a shot regardless though.
2 - I don't think Diaz can take the top guns at 170lbs to be honest and I wish he could. I think Alves, Serra, GSP, Koscheck and Fitch would beat him right now. And I wouldn't bet on Diaz against Matt Hughes or Diego Sanchez either. Paul Taylor, Marcus Davis, Mike Swick and Chris Lytle would all favour their dances too although I think he would probably beat them.

Not one, but two titles are on the line on December 27th as former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir continues his pursuit to regain the belt when he meets Interim UFC Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira in a showdown between the two coaches of this season’s edition of The Ultimate Fighter®. Also on tap is a grudge match between two former champions, as MMA legend Wanderlei Silva takes on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Who is the greatest champion to ever come out of The Ultimate Fighter? That question could very well be answered as Forrest Griffin (16-4) meets the red-hot Rashad Evans (17-0-1) for the 205-pound crown. Las Vegas, Nevada’s Griffin has won three in a row, including a submission victory against former PRIDE® champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and a stirring decision win over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Niagara Falls, NY native and former national junior college champion wrestler Evans is starting to compile quite a highlight reel with knockout wins over Jason Lambert, Sean Salmon and most recently UFC legend Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell.
“Forrest fights from the heart just like me, and everyone underestimates Forrest until they get in there with him, like me,” said Evans. “I think he and I are going to be like Ali vs. Frazier – this will be the first time we meet, but it won’t be the last, so I want to set the precedent. Fighting Forrest for the title is a dream come true; it’s crazy to think about how far I’ve come, but I’m going to treat this like every other fight. And like I’ve shown time and time again in my fights, opportunity is all I need.”
As always, Griffin remains focused and humble.
“I’m happy that the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 gets to fight the winner of Season 2,” Griffin said. “I think that’s great for a couple of reality show guys. Rashad has a great wrestling background, he has a lot of power and explosiveness, and he doesn’t just knock guys out, he knocks them out for quite a while. But I know a lot of people will be watching this fight. This is a great fight card, I’m honored to be on it, and I’m definitely not going to let anything slide.”
It’s almost time for The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir coaches to step from the Octagon™ apron to inside the cage and decide who deserves to be the heavyweight champion. Las Vegas’ Frank Mir (11-3) will meet the only man ever to hold the PRIDE and UFC heavyweight titles, Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira (31-4-1). The matchup features two Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts that seem to enjoy high-profile matches.
“I’m excited to get back in the Octagon December 27th and finish off what was started on The Ultimate Fighter Season 8,” said Nogueira. “I’m the Interim Champion, I’m fired up to fight Frank Mir. He’s one of the best ground guys in America and I’m looking forward to testing my skills against him.”
As former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir readies himself for his greatest test yet, he appreciates the fact that he’s about to lock horns with an MMA legend.
“It’s a huge honor fighting Nogueira,” Mir said. “No matter what happens at the end of the night, I’ll be a better fighter for it. I’m looking ahead; I’m not looking back at where I came from. I’m going to keep pushing forward, and getting my title back is just another step forward for me.”
In what has “fight of the night” written all over it, former PRIDE champion Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva faces a man who he has beaten twice before in Memphis, Tennessee native Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Both of these fighters have dynamite in their fists, and Rampage (28-7) is looking to prove that he is a different and greatly improved fighter.
“Wanderlei is an exciting fighter with awesome skills,” said Jackson. “I think this is going to be the fight of the year. Don’t miss it.”
But Curitiba, Brazil’s Silva (32-8-1), who is coming off a vicious KO win over Keith Jardine, didn’t return the compliment.
“I’m not fighting him for money – I’m fighting him for pure pleasure,” Silva said. “He talks bad about me on the Internet, yet he won’t talk bad to my face. I don’t like him and I can’t wait to beat him down at UFC 92.”

see what i mean!
Thats not what i read. I read the opposite. I read that Kosh wasnt guaranteed a title shot if he beats Alves and that his 2nd fight could still derail him. And the 2nd fight is still on for sure.
imo I think Diaz could beat Serra, Lytle, Davis and Swick. I think he would have trouble against guys like Sanchez, Hughes, Koscheck, and Fitch, though I don't think it would be outside the realm of possibility for him to beat them. I don't think he'd be able to Karo, Alves, or GSP though...
Diaz already gave a good Karo a very close fight which I personally thought he won. Kayo has been shit since really.
I don't think he would last with Matt Serra at all. Serra's jujitsu is certainly stronger as is his power. Diaz isn't going to be able to do those stupid half ass jabs to him. Also I think he'd struggle standing against Lytle and Davis.
What? Diaz would murder Matt Serra.
Serra has been stopped twice in his career and one is arguably the flukest KO in the history of MMA and the other was against the arguably the best welterweight ever.
Diaz isn't gonna knock him out and his jujitsu isn't better than Serra's so although he might, I very much doubt he'd submit him. Serra also won big fights and Diaz has pretty much lost all of his biggest fights.
I love watch Nick Diaz fight but I can't see him being a top guy ever really. Serra already proved his worth.

goodbye
First of all Rob, you're severly overrated Serra's BJJ. As far as in ring MMA, Diaz has shown way more and way better BJJ in his fights. See the Sanchez and Parisyan fights. Aside from a fluke tko ( imo ) on GSP, who's Serra beat? Lytle, ok, but Lytle wasnt nearly as good as he is now.
Diaz has beaten, Robbie Lawler via knock out. He banged the shit out of Gomi and then finished him with a gogoplata and i refuse to believe marijuana had anything to do with that. If anything it worked against him cause i mean what retard would go into the ring with Gomi stoned off his ass. He shoulda got the decision against Karo.
Serra's BJJ isnt built for MMA. Sure i think if Serra and Diaz were to enter a BJJ tournament, i'd probably give the edge to Serra. But we're talking about MMA. Whole nother ball game. Serra would get worked over badly by Diaz if they fought.
Impact!
10-23-2008, 09:32 AM
Serra V Diaz would be an interesting fight, it could really swing either way imo...Diaz's problem is he either seems to on (really on) or really off. If he can fight at his best imo he'd beat Serra, but I can still see it going to Serra just as easily.
I actually think Diaz's problem is he tends to fall in love with his stand up game. He has great BJJ. But sometimes he just stands and trades punches for 3 rounds.
Impact!
10-23-2008, 10:16 AM
That's definetly another problem. I think he still thinks he's incredible for standing and banging against Lawler (Knocking him out certainly didn't help that either).
I actually think Diaz's problem is he tends to fall in love with his stand up game. He has great BJJ. But sometimes he just stands and trades punches for 3 rounds.
Sorry what fights since the Lawler fight has Diaz stood and traded for 3 rounds?
And his BJJ didn't beat Parysian or Sanchez so it wasn't that great.
In all seriousness, I love Nick Diaz but he hasn't come close to looking like a world beater since he lost the two previously mentioned fights.
Nate Diaz on the other hand has looked better and better.
Thats not what i read. I read the opposite. I read that Kosh wasnt guaranteed a title shot if he beats Alves and that his 2nd fight could still derail him. And the 2nd fight is still on for sure.
It isn't on for sure. Koscheck says he'll do the fight if he is injury free. Anything can happen this Saturday. The commission could give him a medical suspension for a cut or something.

Affliction Entertainment, the fledgling fight promotion that first splashed onto the MMA scene with its ubiquitous t-shirts, has rejected a bid to partner with the industry-leading UFC.
MMAWeekly.com spoke to multiple industry sources that confirmed that the basics of a deal had been brokered to allow Affliction back into the organization as a major clothing sponsor, including the possibility of UFC/Affliction co-branded apparel.
The UFC banned the clothing company in January of 2008 when they learned of Affliction’s desire to promote MMA events.
In exchange for the formal partnership, Affliction would agree to cease operations as a fight promoter. Select fighter contracts from Affliction’s talent roster would presumably be bought out by the UFC.
A meeting took place between UFC and Affliction executives on Sept. 26, where the idea was first openly discussed. Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio was present, in addition to UFC president Dana White. According to a source, Randy Couture and his lawyers may have attended the meeting as well. Talks were cordial, and Affliction executives agreed to come up with a proposal of their own. All agreed the group would reconvene in a short time period to sort through the issues of a potential deal.
Communication began to deteriorate, though, with Affliction’s ad campaign for EliteXC’s “Heat,” on Oct. 4. The airing of several ads trumpeting Fedor Emelianenko’s return reportedly made UFC executives wary the deal was not being taken seriously.
The partnership was placed further in doubt by Affliction’s lucrative licensing deals with UFC champions Randy Couture and Georges St. Pierre. Couture’s clothing line, Xtreme Couture, is controlled by partners of Affliction, according to court filings from the now-dismissed legal action with the UFC concerning Couture’s employment agreement. Couture has a substantial, but minority interest in the popular clothing brand.
Affliction had also partnered with boxing promoter Golden Boy on Sept. 13, announcing a deal to co-promote four boxing/MMA hybrid cards in 2009.
Two weeks passed since the first meeting with no constructive communication between Affliction and the UFC. Both sides believed the deal was off the table, but on Monday, a conference call took place between, among others, Lorenzo Fertitta and Todd Beard, Affliction’s co-founder.
Though the deal was not formally rejected by Affliction, it was clear that the goodwill between the parties had disappeared. While it’s unclear how the conversation went south, it went south quickly, with both parties directing profanities at one another. Towards the end, Beard reportedly told Ferttita, “you’ve (expletive) with the wrong guy.”
Needless to say, Affliction’s window of opportunity with the UFC appears to be closed.
A resolution between the two companies may have been beneficial for both. The UFC could have counted one less competitor, and potentially picked up fighters like Emelianenko and Arlovski, ensuring a robust future for its heavyweight division. Affliction could have re-established a proven revenue stream and cemented itself with a company that’s rapidly approaching global proportions.
But ultimately for Affliction, the decision that got them kicked out of the organization has kept them from getting back in.
According to sources from within Affliction and CBS, there may be little reason for the clothing company cum fight promoter to mourn the loss. Talks of a broadcast partnership that could place Affliction on primetime television are ongoing.
Few details have emerged on the shape of Affliction/Golden Boy’s first announced co-promotion in January, though Atencio confirmed that the card would showcase only mixed martial arts events. Emelianenko is still the headliner of the show, facing Andre Arlovski for the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight belt on Jan. 24 at The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Affliction are stupid for not making this deal happen..
I don't know if i even believe that happened.

I can see your point but, they already had to cancel a show due to the money not being there.. I can see that happening again.. They have the chance to be a sponsor to the biggest MMA promotion ever, instead they are gonna end up a t-shirt company who failed at being a contender in the sport of MMA.. Then even those fighters who UFC is interested in right now, will be just as unemployed as the fighters they are not interested in..

p.s. don't get me wrong, I hope they do well, cause competition is great for the sport of MMA as a whole.. The better the comp is, the better UFC has to be to remain on top.. I just don't think they'll be able to contend in the long run..

Affliction website promotes Emelianenko vs. Arlovski for Jan. 24 | MMAjunkie.com (http://mmajunkie.com/news/13068/affliction-website-promotes-emelianenko-vs-arlovski-for-jan-24.mma)
Fedor Emelianenko will apparently meet Andrei Arlovski in the "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" main event, after all.
Although Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio recently declined to confirm any details of the event, the organization's website now promotes a Jan. 24 headline fight between the current WAMMA heavyweight champion and the former UFC title-holder.
Josh Barnett, Matt Lindland, Vitor Belfort, Vladimir Matyushenko, Jay Hieron, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Renato "Babalu" Sobral and Chris Horodecki are also promoted as event participants.
The event was originally scheduled to take place Oct. 11 in Las Vegas, but "Day of Reckoning" organizers postponed the event last month. As MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com)) previously mentioned, a new partnership with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions was cited as the reason for the postponement, but slow ticket sales may also have factored into the decision.
"Day of Reckoning" is expected to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The main card will air on pay per view, and the preliminary card is slated to air on HDNet.
Arlovski (14-5) was last seen successfully defeating IFL champion Roy Nelson at "EliteXC: Heat" earlier this month. The bout was a co-promoted affair between Affliction and the now-defunct EliteXC, which recently alerted the Nevada State Athletic Commission that it's ceased operations.
Prior to the Nelson victory, Arlovski defeated former IFL stand-out Ben Rothwell at Affliction's debut event in July. At that same event, Emelianenko (28-1) defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia with a quick submission victory in the night's main event.

Thanks, bro..
Brock Lesnar may be training for the biggest fight of his short career when he faces off against Randy Couture at UFC 91 in Las Vegas, Nevada in November. Lesnar knows he will face off against stiff competition when he faces Couture, so lesnar’s representatives have asked the NSAC to remove veteran referee Steve Mazzagatti from consideration to officiate the bout.
Lesnar’s representatives, David Olsen and Brian Stegeman told Sherdog.com about why they asked for “Mazz” to be removed from consideration.
Lesnar’s reps claim he was “involved in what we believe was a controversial ruling in connection with the Mir-Lesnar fight.” Lesnar’s reps told Sherdog. ”They asked that Mazzagatti be removed from consideration for the UFC 91 main event to avoid “distraction” and “any further controversy.”
The incident they are speaking about is when Mazzagatti took a point away from lesnar for hitting Frank Mir in the back of the head at UFC 81 earlier this year. Lesnar was critical several times of Mazzagatti’s point deduction in the bout.
Head of the NSAC Keith Keizer said he thought Mazzagatti did a great job calling the fight at UFC 81.
“I think Mazzagatti did a great job that night,” Kizer said.
With Lesnar’s request to have Mazzagatti removed from consideration, you have to wonder if this could actually come back to hurt Lesnar in his professional MMA career. I am not a referee, but I am pretty sure Lesnar’s blows were illegal from what I remember. Besides will referees backlash at Lesnar for attempting to pick and choose his officials? I guess we will find out in the near future.
He has a point but it seems kinda unprofessional..

Those stats are all wrong too. Most of the fighters weighed in a pound over. Silva was a pound under, Cote was 2 under. Dos Santos weighed 234 and Werdum is at a career heaviest of 256lbs. His weight gain is worrying really.
