oH ok . I'll take your word for that...
I should have said not blatanly obviously on steroids. UFC has testing and fighters know the way around them. Silva and Shogun had no reason not to be on juice in Japan.

As Hughs said the past season, it not about teaching moves and whatnot.. Most of the guys who make it to TUF are trained already.. The "coaches" are more about setting training regimans and gameplanning for fights.. Also cornering.. I don't see how Forrest isn't qualified.. Supposedly he is one of the biggest gym rats in the UFC, has big fight experience and knowledge of the workings of UFC..
Why would you think he's not qualified??

I've never watched much MMA shit before just because I haven't been interested. Decided to check this out since Guida's from my hometown and a few of my buddies that wrestled with him were going to the bar to watch it. I have to say, there were some really entertaining fights going on. I thought Clay was going to take the fight, but he just got fucking rocked with that knee. It felt like a little bit of Johnsburg died that night because everyone was freaking out at the possibility of such a huge win, and then Clay got choked out. Damn. I might have to watch more in the future.

So the thousands of people out there who own and run MMA gyms, who haven't held a championship, aren't qualifies to run their gyms??
What?
So all the guys who coached those fighters must be shit because they don't have world titles?
Pure bollocks. Top fighters don't automatically make top coaches. In boxing, Freddie Roach, Billy Graham, Manny Steward and Enzo Calzaghe did nothing in the ring and yet they must have trained like 50 world champions between them.
Oh and Liddell wasn't a champion when he was the coach on the first TUF series so that "arguement" goes out the window.

Jesus Kris... YES! As a coach, you have to be able to work with all different kinds of people. Now I am pretty sure youve played sports before. Have you ever had a bad coach? A lot of the time the most successful and talented guys in any sport turn out to be really shitty coaches. Not all the time, but enough to be a trend. No guys like Randy, Hughes, and Serra are a little different because of their experience in the sport, but Forrest has only been around the ufc for about 3-4 years. Before that he was a cop that was doing this on the side. Hes probably never coached before which could be a little tough because you have to be able to work with fighters and connect with your guys. You have to be able to understand different personality types and try your best to be patient with everyone. No Forrest seems like a cool guy but who knows how hes gonna be as a coach. Just cuz hes funny doesnt mean hes not gonna screw up with coaching the fighters.
Also, he doesnt have that much big match experience. His three biggest matches were the TUF finals, vs Tito, and vs Shogun. No real main events, and no title fights.
Maybe he'll be an awsome coach, but its hard to say hes more than qualified and your nuts if thinking him winning makes him a good coach.

Its not necessarily championship status as much as having to have a lot of big match and high pressure experience that comes with winning a championship. Something that Forrest doesnt have much of.

He has more than the guys he'll be coaching certainly..

That's reasons why they might be good coaches. That's not a qualification. I'm not trying to be a dick either but there isn't any standard of coaching badges for MMA so saying one person is more or less qualified than others is a load of shite.
I used to coach kids football and I'm now qualified with badges by the FA to coach kids but I can tell you from my own experience that I could have done as well without the qualification.
Rampage has 2 of out the 3 too and he is known for being a lazy motherfucker when it comes to training. Forrest is known for working his balls to the ground in the gym. Now if you took away the names, you'd want to work with the hard worker every day. Doesn't mean he will be a good coach but it doesn't mean he won't either.

You're probably right but the guy needs to be in the UFC for the general (North American) population to care, or to even fight the best guys. Since the UFC is top dog in MMA, he needs to be there. From the sounds of it the guy wants to pick his own opponents so it seems he may be ducking guys by not signing with UFC.

Just because your the best doesnt mean you have to fight number one contenders everytime. He slaughters everyone he faces. Even his decision victories were complete bowouts. The guy has fought the best guys that were available to him and killed them.
Sometimes you have to build up a ighter by giving him inferior opponents to sharpen their game. For example having Fedor fight an expert striker to see how he performs or to fight an expert grappler. The goal to sharpen their skills and make them a more complete fighter. If those opponents are too good at their area, chances are Fedor would be able to take the fight to the area that the oponent is at hi weakest like the ground for the striker or staying standing against a grappler.
Look at Wanderlei Silva's record. He faught a mixture of cans and tough competition his entire career which buit him up to the grea fighter he is now.
Reavant
12-21-2007, 03:55 PM
and before someone says "why woud he need to do that hes already the best blah blah"... theres always someone out there thats better or at the very least have what it takes to beat the top dog and you need to constantly sharpen and refine your game so that you are ready for opponents like that.
Kris P Lettus

I didn't really want to get into a "Why Fedor is considered one of the best" discussions but OK.. I was just letting Ant know who he was.. Anyway, every fight I've ever seen of his has been super exciting.. I think the fact that he doesn't look dominant yet is intrigues me.. Like, he looks like a normal guy with a little beer gut and all but is a beast in the ring.. I don't think I've ever seen him gas.. He has amazing composure even when he is seemingly "losing" (he never seems to freak out when bloody or in a bad ground position).. He has crazy ground control and agility for a bigger guy.. And he is one of the best strikers and has quick hands for any weightclass but specially for heavyweight..
I think him vs Couture will be great but I think Fedor will take it, specially if they stayed on their feet..

It matters because every Pride star has failed in the UFC since the buy out. Also because he was allowed to take whatever drugs he wanted to in Japan and can't in the States. He had great competition in Pride but also had his share of cans.

Yea but a lot of Liddel's matches were way of 2 win rematches. Most coming off of KOs the first time. He knocked out randy, tito, and babalu in that fasion and thats all in 25 fights. Other than Sakuraba and Rampage, Wanderlei faught different people every fight with barely any 2 win rematches for 39 fights. Its hard to keep a successful streak like he had fighting all different kinds of opponents and fighting styles without getting caught a couple of times.

Soku got fucking humbled!
So did that retard Melvin earlier and Clementi just became my favourite fighter with his celebrations.
Sanchez got a 3rd round KO. Boring ass shit.
Liddell dominates round 1. Silva gets better of first 3mins of 2nd but Liddell back super strong. Close round. 3rd is all Liddell standing and Silva looks like shit. I have it 30-28 to Liddell.
It's 29-28, 30-27 twice for Liddell.
GSP vs. Hughes.
Round 1 - Hughes comes out fighting southpaw to get better chance at the takedown. Doesn't work. GSP blocks takedown, gets his own, batters Hughes against the cage in his guard and eventually moves to full mount and nearly hits a rolling arm bar to win but the round ends. 10-9 GSP.
GSP wins late second round arm bar, Fucking well tight. TOTAL domination. Up until then it was much of the same of the first. GSP took him down at will, dominated the ground, took whatever position he wanted and then nearly ripped his arm off his body.
GSP does a spinarooni celebration!
GSP also just threw down the interim title and says Serra is the real champion. Total class.
They are showing Gamburyan vs. Moor now. Manny wins in 90 seconds so I'm off to bed. It will be on UFC.com in a bit anyway with the rest of the prelims.

Random Nemesis Crap:
* Clementi busted out a Full Nelson with a Body Scissors. and the hatred was awesome. Fuck Melvin, btw.
* Sokudouju = ANOTHER Pride flop. Or, Machida fucked him up.
* Palelei vs. Sanchez was a piece of shit. Me and my buddy tapped watching that fight.
* Liddell vs. Vanderlei was epic. Chuck won decisively, but he busted out takedowns, which was a shock. We forgot about the snore-fest before.
* GSP > You. My arm hurt.
* Manny probably broke Mohr's leg. And he felt bad about it. Owww...
* Lines of the Night: "Have you ever heard of training Jiu Jitsu, Melvin?" -Clementi & "Tap Tap TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!" -Hughes.

well yea he def. looked uncomfortable but the only time he opened up and swung was when he was getting rocked against the cage. He used to just throw and throw and throw without stopping before. Maybe he should have had someone else as his first opponent. People can say hes not on roids or whatever but he could have been on everything possible and he still would have lost that fight because he didnt do anything.

Amen brother. UFC is mad at him because he wont resign his contract. They think hes going to fight his last fight and leave. Theyre betting on Obrien having another win like his one against heath herring where he took him down and layed on him for 15 minutes. They think that he can take andrei down and lay on him. They want him to have a nother boring fight and hopefully a loss at that so that the fans will be pissed and he wont be a draw in another organization. However they dont know that andrei has been working on his wrestling for over a year now and hes been picking it up really quickly. Not to mention hes got a real good gaurd. Im decent at it especially since ive been wrestling for 10 years and he can sweep and pull off submissions on the ground on me. So I think Zuffa is going to be pulling their hair out when andrei finishes him. I just hope he does because no matter how dominate he is, if it goes to a decision, hes going to lose.

Another UFC champion is speaking out against the promotion he once called home.
In an interview on Sirius’ Fight Network Radio on Monday, a disgruntled Tito Ortiz cited money as a primary point of contention with Zuffa LLC, the Las Vegas-based company that purchased the mixed martial arts’ brand in early 2001 and turned it into a $200 million-plus industry over the next five years.
“They don’t want the fighters to get as big as a 'Tyson' or a 'De La Hoya' or one of those types because all of a sudden, they’ll be expecting to see a lot more payment,” said Ortiz. “The UFC makes about 99 percent of the money, and the rest goes to the fighters. That one percent ain't nothing compared to what they make on merchandising, on pay-per-view, and everything else they make around the world.”
Ortiz is not the only marquee fighter to take Zuffa to task. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture resigned from the organization on Oct. 11, citing compensation and poor treatment within the company as his main motivations. Couture walked away from his title, two contracted fights and a separate employment contract for commentating and promotional duties. Zuffa filed suit with Couture last Monday for breach of his employment contract.
A polarizing former UFC light heavyweight champion, Ortiz confirmed he will face Lyoto Machida (12-0) at a UFC event on Saturday, May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will satisfy the final fight of his UFC contract.
Expecting a rematch with “The Ultimate Fighter 2” winner Rashad Evans, Ortiz (15-5-1) said he begrudgingly accepted the bout with the Japanese-Brazilian fighter who toppled PRIDE sensation Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou with a second-round submission at UFC 79 “Nemesis” on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.
“I was expecting a bigger fight. I think the fans were expecting a bigger fight,” said Ortiz. “I got pressed into it, and all of a sudden, it’s all over the Internet that Tito Ortiz won’t fight Machida. I’m just looking to get my final fight over with the UFC.”
Ortiz has headlined 17 of his 20 UFC appearances since he stepped into the Octagon at UFC 13 “Ultimate Force” in May 1997. Energetic and captivating, Ortiz became the UFC’s light heavyweight champion after his vicotry against future PRIDE Fighting Championships star Wanderlei Silva at UFC 25 in April 2004. A poster boy for the promotion, he lost the title to Chuck Liddell (21-5) via a second-round TKO at UFC 47 four years later.
Ortiz’s rematch against Liddell at UFC 66 in December 2006 remains the largest UFC pay-per-view to date, with a reported 1,000,050 buys. The event also holds the North American record for paid attendance, with 12,191 fans shelling out $5,397,300 to see the former friends rumble. The 33-year-old said he’s banked over $ 1 million per fight in his latest outings, but that half those wages go to taxes and training expenses.
Money has always been at the root of a rocky relationship with Zuffa officials. In 2003, Ortiz held out on a pay raise from the Las Vegas promotion in favor of a supporting movie role in a sequel to “The Crow." Ortiz eventually returned to the fold, but the relationship remained strained.
Ortiz’s troubles with the promotion have become public fodder, particularly with his former manager turned UFC president Dana White, who has belittled the fighter and his girlfriend, Jenna Jameson -- the world’s most recognizable porn star -- in numerous interviews.
The clash between promoter and fighter came to a head last fall, when Spike TV aired a special documenting a regulated boxing session the two were to have had in a Las Vegas gym. Ortiz said he pulled out of the bout ahead of time, claiming compensation for the publicity stunt was never agreed upon. The cameras rolled with White waiting at the scales.
Nearing the end of his contract last year, Ortiz opted to go back to the table with UFC majority owner Lorenzo Fertitta. Subsequent negotiations stalled.
“They said I wasn’t worth the money,” said Ortiz. “I was worth no more than what I’m getting paid now, and I’m not a commodity to them anymore. I’m not as viable to them anymore. That was a sign of disrespect.”
Ortiz also believes White's ill feelings towards him will most likely prevent the fighter from getting a shot at the UFC title again.
"With Dana in charge, I don't think that fight will ever happen for me," said Ortiz. "Dana has bad blood for me and nothing but bad blood. They're going to try and ruin me."
Often at the center of controversy in the sport, bleached-blonde wrestler Ortiz, 33, has managed to stay in the spotlight despite his inactivity. After his heated July 7 draw with “The Ultimate Fighter 3” reality TV series winner Rashad Evans (11-0-1) at UFC 73 “Stacked” in Sacramento, Ortiz (15-5-1) landed a stint on NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” alongside KISS frontman Gene Simmons and actor Stephen Baldwin. The show is now in its third week, with Ortiz donating his earnings to the St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
“UFC is caring so much about the brand itself,” said Ortiz. “They could care less about the fighters. Fighters are a dime a dozen. They’ll keep coming. Dana is really out for himself and the company. He doesn’t give a s--t about the fighters.”

He's still had a fight though, that's all I was sayng. As for the main event thing, Lesnar is currently one of the top stars the UFC has, and he hasn't even debuted yet. People will buy this JUST to see him fight. This is about marketing and buy rates, not dues.
To put it simply, if he gets laid out in his first fight they wil never lke have a chance to make money off him again, it's now or never.
Not to mention, ITS THE FIGHT THE MAJORITY IS THE MOST INTERESTED IN ON THAT CARD. If that doesn't make you main event material what does.

i hope brock dominates most of the fight and mir gets him in a tricky sub.... at least that way its not a bad loss for brock and mir is back in the picture
If Brock loses, he lost to a former UFC champion. Not some bum. If he wins, sky is the limit.

if he gets dominated tho it will look bad.... if he gets caught in a sub he still could do whatever he wants

His nickname HAS to be the Next big thing..it could fit him well in UFC too.
And if he busts Mir wide open he HAS to smear his blood on his chest, ala Hogan.

The Judge would work well for Lesnar

It doesn't matter. He is already a star, why waste millions on an easy fight?

No easy fight my friend. read what Destor said up top.

It was Couture, Tito, Dean Lister, and the greatest fighter of all time "El Guapo" Bas Rutten (and some guy who played sparing parter/punching bag who I didn't know).. It was f'n sweet.. They tested how hard they hit, slammed, choked, etc.. They also went on and on about how "UFC" (they kept naming it) had taken so many steps to making fighting safe.. It was a good show for the sport, too bad prolly not alot of people saw it..
I wish Bill O'Reilly saw it..

he would have bitched about how the dummy wasnt treated fairly
The closer it gets, the more convinced I am that Lesnar is gonna kill this fucker. But I also have an image of Mir knocking him out. Hardest fight to call in a long time purely because of Lesnar's inexperience.

Lesnar will be able to take him down, even Mir said it on the Countdown to UFC 81 thing that was on last night.. Mir seems to think that his Jujitsu will get him the win even on the ground, but I think Lesnar will be able to overpower Mir and pretty much do whatever he wants to him the entire fight..
Also Nog>Sylvia..

Sylvia has no game with the ladies.
He has fucked women wearing the UFC heavyweight title. I have no problem with this.
I think Lesnar will beat the living shit out of Mirs face and end this fight in about 55 seconds.

lol good call
Fair play on the call but you gotta admit that Mir should be blowing Steve Mazzagatti for saving his life.

Lesnar looked really good but got way too over confident.. If he had slowed it down he would have won I think..

Yea Brock shoulda got a warning instead of a point deductoon right away. Pretty funny how a bunch of WWE guys were there..they shoulda done a run in when Brock was in the leglock.

Now that I look at it, yeah it was more of a hip toss than a thai clinch.
but still, how did Heath land on his HEAD from that position?

he was clearly out cold on his feet and his body was just following its muscle memory by basing back up after he hit the ground. I mean the guy just let himself get nailed with knee after knee to the head right before that.
