</td> </tr> <tr> <td height="7"><spacer type="block" height="1" width="1"></td> </tr> </tbody></table> Dann Stupp, MMAjunkie.com
February 4, 2008 Despite suffering a first-round submission loss to Frank Mir on Saturday, Brock Lesnar collected a cool quarter-of-a-million dollars in his UFC debut.
The former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and World Wrestling Entertainment performer was the highest-paid fighter at UFC 81, according to paperwork acquired by MMAjunkie.com (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AhLcUxV42fvXKl64VjwjrLqtEo14/SIG=10quqj7e7/**http%3A//mmajunkie.com/) (www.mmajunkie.com) from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
UFC 81 took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and aired live on pay-per-view.
Mir earned a base salary of $80,00 for the fight -- which was the fourth-highest behind Lesnar and main-event fighters Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ($200,000) and Tim Sylvia ($100,000).
The total disclosed payroll for the event was $892,000.
The full list of salaries included:
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ($200,000) def. Tim Sylvia ($100,000)
Frank Mir ($80,000) def. Brock Lesnar ($250,000)
Nate Marquardt ($52,000) def. Jeremy Horn ($25,000)
Ricardo Almeida ($40,000) def. Rob Yundt ($5,000)
Tyson Griffin ($36,000) def. Gleison Tibau ($11,000)
Chris Lytle ($24,000) def. Kyle Bradley ($4,O00)
Tim Boetsch ($12,000) def. David Heath ($6,000)
Marvin Eastman ($14,000) def. Terry Martin ($12,000)
Rob Emerson ($16,000) def. Keita Nakamura ($5,000) All the winning fighters received pay that awarded 50 percent "to show" and 50 percent as a "win bonus" -- except for Lesnar, who would have earned a $200,000 win bonus.
Now, the usual disclaimer: the figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker-room" or special bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays.
In other words, these are simply base salaries reported to the NSAC and do not represent the total amounts earned by each fighter.
For complete coverage of the event, including the list of winners for fight-night bonuses (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AtuOVnD6B86GyoYImD2cx8GtEo14/SIG=1395ptf7m/**http%3A//mmajunkie.com/2008/02/03/nogueira-sylvia-lytle-and-mir-earn-60000-ufc-81-fight-night-bonuses/), be sure to check out MMAjunkie.com's UFC 81 archives (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=Al1sPsOYfZoP_Ltbk2ow8AmtEo14/SIG=11aj900gi/**http%3A//mmajunkie.com/category/ufc-81/).
And here's the Mazzagatti interview: http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=mmajunkie-Mazzagatti_Interview_Mir&prov=mmajunkie&type=lgns
Seriously, one man got more than 1/4 of the total salary. This is insane.

But, he is a huge draw to alot of people who aren't already fans of the UFC.. It'd be like Floyd Mayweather fighting at a PPV (and getting slaughter)..

As would any proffesional athlete who is not an MMA fighter.. I mean, Kimbo fought Ray Mercer, who was like 44 at the time, and Mercer prolly made better money than all the other fighters on the card.. That ex-NFL WR (can't remember who it was ATM) fought and got destroyed, but I bet he banked on that one fight just because of namesake alone..

Great..
He'll prolly be overhyped and quite disapointing there also..
Saw him fight twice live and twice he got humbled. I'm surprised he even still has marquee value.
wait...dont he still have fights left on his contract?
So UFC released him out of his contract...ok. That dont make sense. Even tho he's lost twice in a row, he's still a bigger draw then basically everyone in the Heavyweight division aside from Nog. They're sure as hell not resigning Arvolski. Its almost like they want to phase the Heavyweight division out.

Get your head out the clouds dude. Nobody in the States knows who the fuck Mirko Cro Cop is and when they saw the hype, he got totally humbled by Gonzaga. With his own finish I might add. And then Kongo bullied him for 3 rounds in London. He did nothing to deserve his contract. Should just retire and be done. His 3 fights didn't draw. Sorry they didn't.

Name me 3 Heavyweights that draw more then Cro Crop currently.

02-13-2008, 03:52 PM
Fedor, Couture, Lesnar
Fedor, Coutore, Lesnar
I was talking UFC obviously. Suprised you didnt realize that ( no i'm not ). Couture is retired and wont fight in UFC. Fedor isnt in UFC and you can say Lesnar, but lets be honest. He's only drawing because of his fake fighting.
I'm talking about current Heavyweights. Think of it like this. Say UFC has a main even with an opponent ( just random ) like Jeff Munson. Who draw more attention to that fight, Frank Mir, Kongo, Gonzaga, Sylvia, or Cro Crop?
Kris P Lettus
02-13-2008, 03:57 PM
Mir ATM TBH
You think Mir would draw more then Cro Crop in a fight against an average opponent? I disagree, but ok.
Kris P Lettus
02-13-2008, 04:04 PM
Mir is much closer to a title fight and is on a two fight win streak (one against a uber hyped future HWC) while Cro Cop is on a two fight losing streak and is pretty much out the door..
You gotta think, prolly like 80% of American MMA fans have never seen PRIDE..
Nah, i dont agree with the 80% thing. Cro Crop was one of the most recognizable in the sport in 2006. I dont disagree with Mir being closer to a title fight. I'm not saying anything about that. Obviously Cro Crop isnt close to a title fight cause he's not in UFC anymore. My point was, why release a guy thats a top 3 draw in your weakest division. Its not like they have better.

Look, Cro Cop was supposed to be the "Savior" of the heavy weight division, but he wasn't.. UFC has never had a great Heavy Weight division, ever.. They've had some great fighters here or there but LHW was always the marquee division..
It's not that big of a deal that he is leaving TBH.. Couture leaving was much more devastating IMO..
Name me 3 Heavyweights that draw more then Cro Crop currently.
What does this prove? Only that UFC has heavyweights that don't draw. Sylvia and Lesnar are far bigger draws for a start. I'd argue Mir and Nog as well. The US fans now know Big Nog as the champ. That's more of a pull for a new star than anything Cro Cop did.
I would have loved Cro Cop to have been a huge star in the UFC but he blew it. Not anyone else. UFC pushed him like a superstar and he got fucked. He didn't even start training in a cage or using elbows on the floor until his third fight. HIS OWN FAULT.
Sylvia is not a bigger draw. Everyone boo's him cause he so boring. No one is buying a PPV to watch Sylvia fight.

That's right, people buy PPVs to watch Liddell, Rampage, Anderson Silva, GSP, etc etc etc..
Just as Rob said, I would have loved Cro Cop to come in a dominate but he didn't.. He didn't kill the weak division, just didn't save it..
Sylvia is not a bigger draw. Everyone boo's him cause he so boring. No one is buying a PPV to watch Sylvia fight.
Really? How come the shows he main events sell out and do better numbers on PPV than Cro Cop then? They didn't have faith to even put Cro Cop on PPV! One time! That was it. He main evented a free show and was KO'd and was mid card on a free show and was humbled!

Supposedly the new promotion Mirko signed with (Dream) has signed a talent sharing deal with M-1. M-1 has Royce and Fedor signed. Rumor is the innagural DREAM show will be Mirko vs Fedor for the world title.
Fedor is an idiot if he takes this fight, it's a no win for him. If he stomps Mirko so what - Gonzaga did it. If he struggles... fuck, even Kongo stomped him.
Cro Crap is a joker saying he didn't run from UFC and doesn't like the cage.

it would depend who fedor fought. if fedor were to fight randy in the ufc, it would probably be the biggest ppv they ever had. now that may be because of randy, but the ufc would also hype it like they did with rampage and liddell. By the time the ppv came everyone would know who fedor was and if he were to beat randy he would instantly be a draw. now if he were to fight anyone else in the division no one who is a casual fan would pay to see him.

It was a good interview.. He talked about how MMA wasn't supposed to be his career but was just something to make money after his olympic appearance, how he feels more comfortable at 185lbs, the transition for ring to cage, how well UFC treats it's guys, and that Wanderlei and Rampage were the two hardest hitters he's fought.. He is mad humble and seems like a really good guy.. He laughed off Rome when talking about guys who hit hard b/c Henderson supposedly has a tough jaw.. He said he's just been lucky and works on not getting hit on "the spot"..
He is the man..
I'm officially tipping him to beat Silva. I've been going back and forth and really have no idea who is gonna win but I gotta back someone in my prediction stakes and I can't see Silva bullying Henderson like he has for others.

That is the deal UFC had been working on for months and may represent the most important MMA news since UFC got on Spike TV three years ago. Everyone is going to laugh when I say this, but Matt Lindland is the last person who may have a shot without them doing a catch weight match with GSP. Henderson showed me that someone can take Anderson down and lay on him, Lindland is Dan's wrestling coach and I don't think he'd even think about standing and banging with Silva.
It would be a boring ass fight but I think Lindland could win with charge in, take down and just lay on top for 5 minutes; repeat. It would be a long shot, but it's the last possibility I can see and even then I think Anderson destroys him.
I've long said Matt Lindland is one of the top 10 fighters in the world. But honestly, seeing Silva flip the switch in that second round last night was unreal. It was like Hendo was on his level and then Silva jumped up 2 more levels.
BTW Chris Leben is a sick sick man. And he's becoming one of my favorite fighters. Because thats just it. He's a fucking fighter. Dude is sick. I didnt think he'd win last night.
Yushin Okami is such an interesting fighter. I thought he really fought nicely against Franklin, but he lost a decision and it kinda derailed him a bit. Now he's beaten McDonald and Tanner . I think he'll probably be Silva's next fight. And Okami wont win, but he'll make it pretty interesting. He's a definate dark horse. I kinda love him too.

Ummm Andrei looked like shit. He didnt work on any of the shit we worked on. His game plan was to take jakes back off the shots or circle away and drop bombs. Jake is not a very good wrestler and he looked great against Andrei. That trip andrei had was good but still. He didnt throw any power behind his punches.
O'Brian is a better wrestler than you think. Obviously UFC thought Arlovski would need to up his game to have an exciting fight or he'd be out wrestled and be in another bore fest. Since he lost the title, he looks like he is scared to take a punch.

Houston Alexander makes probably the least sense.... yea he beat jaardine, but he got crushed against thiago so why would they hjave him headline an event? Also why would Silva go up to 205 to fight someone who isnt the champ? Even if he wants that fight his management and probably Dana wont let him take it. I would put money on UFC pressuring Hendo into this fight.

Well Randy did say that hed only return if he could fight Fedor so he wouldnt exactly be going back on his words.
The bickering about money and the lies he told about not being paid money that he was is what I'm on about. He can't have 2 fights left on his deal and refuse a fight anyway.

Kurt Angle Admittedly not Ready for MMA
John Morgan - TAGG Radio, for MMAjunkie.com Mar 14, 5:33 pm EDT
Although professional wrestling superstar Kurt Angle will compete against UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture in a submission grappling match later this year, don’t expect Angle to immediately follow in fellow professional wrestler Brock Lesnar’s footsteps—at least not yet.
Angle discussed his upcoming grappling match, as well as a possible foray into MMA with a potential seven-figure deal with the UFC, while a guest on Thursday’s edition of TAGG Radio (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AoMJO_fysEEQDWWCeObDpaCtEo14/SIG=10q41c8b4/**http%3A//taggradio.com/) (www.taggradio.com (http://www.taggradio.com)), a content partner site of MMAjunkie.com (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AgvxWOGZh85th3PTLGy84omtEo14/SIG=10quqj7e7/**http%3A//mmajunkie.com/) (www.mmajunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com)).
“I’ve always wanted to do (MMA), from after the Olympics, and I just never got the shot,” Angle said. “I’ve been keeping myself in really, really good shape, but not in the fighting shape you have to be in to go into MMA.”
Instead, Angle will first try his hand at submission wrestling, which is essentially MMA without striking. The match will be Angle’s first in Rico Chiapparelli’s Professional Submission League, while Couture has competed in the organization before, battling Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza to a draw. The date of the event has not yet been determined, but Angle believes it will take place in late summer or early fall.
“A lot of people are pretty much counting me out, which I don’t blame them,” Angle admitted. “But you can’t count out an Olympic gold medalist.”
After the match, Angle will continue to pursue a transition into MMA, something the 39-year-old has been trying to do for several years. Angle has had contract negotiations with several organizations, including the UFC, though none of those discussions led to a deal.
“(UFC President) Dana White gave me more than any other fighter could ever dream of,” Angle said. “He wanted me to sign for a long period of time where I didn’t have to fight that much. But, he wanted the complete rights to me. I guess he wanted Kurt Angle the name and the person to be affiliated with the UFC for the next whatever years. But the figure was staggering. I could tell you that all the deals that were done were all in the seven-figure mark for the fight.”
Angle’s training for a possible MMA debut has been hampered by the difficulties of constant travel while working as a professional wrestler. He also has a history of neck and shoulder issues that have required numerous surgeries. He hopes to land with an organization that will allow him ample time to prepare properly for a fight.
“Last year I trained about four straight months, and I’ll tell you what, the training is as grueling, if not more grueling, than the training I did for the 1996 Olympics,” Angle said. “Within four months I was so broken down, and I was trying to wrestle full time on the road as well, and I couldn’t do it.”
So while Angle is excited about the opportunity to test his abilities in submission grappling against one of the UFC’s most decorated fighters, an MMA debut is still far from a sure thing.
“I don’t want (you) to misunderstand me,” he said. “When I say I am in shape, I am in no shape at all right now to go into an octagon or on a platform and have a fight with Randy Couture or Chuck Liddell or ‘Rampage’ Jackson or Brock Lesnar or whoever it is. Right now I cannot.”
Angle also discussed at length his previous battles with addiction to painkillers, his thoughts on Lesnar’s recent UFC debut, and his less-than-amicable departure from the WWE. To hear the full interview, download Thursday’s edition of TAGG Radio, available for free in the TAGG Radio archives (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AvRaqtbFG6fJ_9oCnLzRR02tEo14/SIG=11oi3v15o/**http%3A//www.taggradio.com/index2.php%3Fpage=archives).

EliteXC Offers Fedor Emelianenko Four-Fight, Seven-Figure Deal
by Dann Stupp -
ProElite, Inc., the parent company of Elite Xtreme Combat, has offered former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko a four-fight contract that could put the famed Russian on the first two EliteXC-CBS shows.
The news was first reported by Chad Edward , though MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned some additional details about the deal.
Emelianenko's managemenet and EliteXC officials could not be reached for comment.
According to a source close to the negotiations, the deal would call for a base pay somewhere between $300,000 and $500,000 per fight. Additionally, after the two fights (which would air on CBS or Showtime), Emelianenko's next two fights would air on pay-per-view. As part of the deal, he would receive a portion of the PPV revenue, and the "per-buy bonus" would scale as the total number of buys increases.
The length of the contract would run 18 months.
As Nokaut.com reported, EliteXC officials would also have to introduce the fighter as "M-1 Global's Fedor Emelianenko." Sherdog.com recently reported that Emelianenko never actually signed with the recently restructured M-1 Global organization and that the return of a $1.5 million signing bonus would essentially make him a free agent. M-1 Global executives deny the report.
MMAjunkie.com has also learned that the EliteXC offer would call for Fedor's brother, Aleksander Emelianenko, to compete on the same fight cards if terms for a fight contract can be reached. Other Russian Red Devil Fight Team members could also earn consideration for future events.
The first EliteXC-CBS show is scheduled to take place May 31 in Newark, N.J., and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson is tentatively scheduled as the night's headliner. However, Ferguson and Emelianenko are unlikely to fight each other if Emelianenko signs with the organization.
EliteXC is just one of many fight organizations reportedly interested in signing Emelianenko (27-1), who last competed in December at the Yarennoka! New Year's Eve 2007 show. There, he defeated 7-foot-2 Hong Man Choi with a first-round armbar.

Cuban: HDNet to Carry Angle-Couture Match
by MMAjunkie
Mark Cuban, owner of HDNet and the growing HDNet Fights brand, says the all-high-definition cable station will broadcast a Randy Couture vs. Kurt Angle submission grappling match if the bout comes to fruition.
Cuban confirmed the broadcast plans in a recent interview with fightticker.com, a new site operated by our friend Pramit Mohapatra.
Angle recently talked about the potential match during a segment on TAGG Radio, a recap of which can be found here on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
According to the Olympic gold medalist and current professional-wrestling performer, the match will be Angle's first in Rico Chiapparelli's Professional Submission League. Couture, the UFC's estranged heavyweight champion, has previously competed in the organization, battling Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza to a draw.
The date of the Angle-Couture fight has not yet been determined, but Angle believes it will take place in late summer or early fall.
"They are trying to make it happen and it will be on HDNet," Cuban said.
HDNet Fights, which has hosted two of its own shows to date, has also presented live and tape-delayed fights for a number of other organizations, including Strikeforce, the International Fight League, Hardcore Fighting Championships, Matt Lindland's SportFight and others. They've also hosted specialty programming, such as an Xtreme Couture smoker with Randy's wife, Kim Couture.
As Cuban told fightticker.com, that type of co-promotion is simply a way to grow the sport.
"Having all that entrepreneurial energy is great for MMA," Cuban said.
I didn't think this fight would ever really happen..
Angle said he signed for it last week.
Don't believe it still.

Sylvia may be set to announce he's leaving UFC
The Fight Network
Updated: March 27, 2008, 1:18 PM EST Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia could announce his decision to leave the Las Vegas-based promotion as early as Friday, according to a source close to the situation.Sylvia, who has one fight remaining on his current contract with the UFC, submitted to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a bout for the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 81 in February.
Sylvia's departure could set the stage for a lucrative match with former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko later this year. Still widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Emelianenko's services are being sought by a number of potential suitors, including EliteXC.
Sylvia (24-4) has won seven of his last nine fights — the lone defeats coming to Nogueira and Randy Couture, two of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Based out of the Miletich Fighting Systems camp in Bettendorf, Iowa, the gangly, 6-foot-8 Sylvia underwent back surgery following his unanimous decision loss to Couture at UFC 68 in March 2007. He made a successful return to the Octagon in October, as he handed Brandon Vera his first professional defeat at UFC 77.
The 32-year-old Sylvia owns victories against former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski (twice) and Ricco Rodriguez. He has also defeated the American Top Team's Jeff Monson, Mike Whitehead (twice) and Ben Rothwell. Nineteen of his 24 career wins have come by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
That's all I could find..

1. Frank Shamrock is an idiot. Don't stand and trade with Cung Le. When he got tripped in the second, Frank dared him to come down to his level. Cung shook his head. Frank is a submission specialist. Cung is a target just WAITING to be put into a submission. End of Story.
2. Based on his post-match commentary, Cung Le is a douchebag. He said that he was aiming for the wrist, as in TRYING to break his arm. Well, to his credit, it worked.
Observation:
Cung Le is definitely beatable. Several of his kicks SHOULD have been turned into leglocks. He doesn't have one shot knockout power, as evident in several of his fights. He also doesn't seem agressive enough. Strategy-wise, I'd charge him, wanting him to kick me. If I can't get the leg lock, I'd keep coming, until I'm inside. Le doesn't have an inside game, and Frank did expose that. Dirty Boxing was where Frank did the most damage, and a better thai clinch would have done Le in. In other words, Cung Le would NOT want to face Anderson Silva.
Fuck me that was an awesome 3rd.

It was an awesome 3rd. I'll give Shamrock his due for standing with him, but the fact is he shouldn't have. Which is why he's an idiot with a broken arm right now.
Cung Le will bring in some revenue, as long as they do for him what they'll also have to do for Kimbo Slice: Protect him from any real threat. In other words, don't look for Cung to fight a Robbie Lawler (who I think can take him), and don't expect Kimbo to fight anyone who's not over the hill or has anything closely resembling talent.
I loaded up parts 1 and 2 and fell asleep now I watched them and I tried to find 3 but they are being taken down :(. I can't see the end of the fight!.

dailymotion.com has it up..
I just saw the rest a few minutes ago. I don't follow Frank and I hear he's a submission artist so I'm thinking he can't punch but if he could I think he would have won.

I can't see Serra beating GSP again, he is too good. WHICH MAKES ME SO ANGRY BECAUSE I HATE HIM.
I so hope Serra breaks his arm.

Frank Shamrock To Undergo Surgery Today
By Jason Perkins | March 30, 2008
Frank Shamrock and his wife Amy Shamrock were both admitted to San Jose's Valley Medical Center last night.
Frank Shamrock was admitted to the hospital to receive treatment for a broken right forearm he suffered in his fight against Cung Le. Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the arm was snapped in two. Shamrock was in so much pain due to the broken arm that he could not answer the bell for the fourth round and Le was declared the winner due to TKO/Doctor's Stoppage.
Both Frank Shamrock and wife Amy ended up in San Jose's Valley Medical Center on Saturday night.
Frank Shamrock went to the hospital for the treatment of injuries suffered during his Strikeforce middleweight title loss to Cung Le, including what is believed to be a broken right forearm. Meltzer is also reporting that Shamrock will undergo surgery to insert a plate into his forearm.
Amy Shamrock actually thought she was going into labor during the match. She was quickly rushed off to San Jose's Valley Medical Center only to be released a short time later after doctors realized that she was going through a "false alarm". She is due to have Shamrock's second child in May.

If it was found out they fixed the fight the money would not be as much in the long run. The thing MMA has for itself is credibilty, and that is tough to get back.

Seriously shut up about this shit. If you seriously think UFC is gonna fix a fight under license, you are insane.
And if they were gonna do it, they would have done it long before now. No point in pissing millions of dollars up the wall with all these upsets if you can just work them.

I think Steve Mazzagati needs to let a few things go in fights. The two decisions he called here wouldn't have been debatable if it went another 3 seconds. Instead you have the Karo and Houston crying and bitching for the next 3 months.

Mazzagati let a kick to the back of the head go during Shamrock-Le, as well.
He's replacing Herb Dean as the worst ref. ever.
Well the Lauzon vs. Florian fight would have been stopped if Mazzagati was ref when Florian was elbowing the back of the head.

The Alves/Parysian fight was questionable but Houston Alexander was knocked the fuck out.. Not from the blow thatn dropped him but from the first follow punch on the ground.. His hands dropped and everything..
