I dunno, Joe Girardi strikes me as a very good manager. I think his team simply fell short this year, but he comes across as a very poised individual. It would be pretty cool to see Donny baseball as the Yankee manager though.

Damian Rey

Girardi gets a ton ofpraise for being super prepared. Apparently he carries a mega size binder with him with tons of stats and info on advance scouting reports. What those stats are and how useful they are is in question, but a guy that devoted to harboring info with him is my kind of guy. Seems he'd be open to more modern lines of thought and game management.

Droford questions Bautista's legitimacy yet fails to mention Chris Davis getting popped for adhd meds and also learning how to hit seemingly overnight after being abysmal in Texas. And let us not forget good old finger waiving Rafael Palmero, vehemently denying steroid use in front of congress only to get popped later. Wasn't Brian Roberts linked to ped use as well?

Very true. I wasn't comparing the Jays to the O's, but while we're on the subject...how bout that Brady Anderson fella? I'm always more suspicious of guys who get a "second wind" than a younger guy who figures it out though. Davis and Encarnacion were both top prospects, so despite the slow starts to their careers, it isn't at all shocking to see. Guys like Pujols or David Ortiz right now or Jermaine Dye a few years ago.

Also, remember when Palmero started to wear earplugs after he got pinched? Classic.

Ol Dirty Dastard
10-16-2015, 09:49 PM
Yeah I immediately thought of Brady Anderson, but realistically everyone was on the juice. And it WAS odd that he never came close to being a power hitter again *checks career stats* yep I'm right, minus a 24 hr season so yeah a little odd.

Bautista is also 6'0 205, not exactly a giant, and his body change is a realistic one, if you take the time to work out in the gym, not matter what age you are. going from 180-205 lbs is literally an off season of weight training.

Chris Davis hit 21 homers at age 23 in 2009 with the Rangers in almost full seadon. His problem was getting playing time. The Rangers got rid of him in 2011 after playing him 73 games in 2010 and half of 2011. Plus he has the exemption for the medication like several other players.

Roberts and Palmeiro are other stories.

I do think the Jays need to win the next 2 to win the series. Going down 3-2 headed back to KC wouldn't bode well for them at all as Kauffman Stadium doesn't play to the Jays' strengths.

To a lesser degree I could say the same about the Cubs. Their bats were tamed quite a bit in Citi so they'll need to take advantage of the friendly confines of Wrigley.

Matt Harvey's agent Scott Boras has secured an insurance policy for his client that would protect the New York Mets pitcher if he suffers any injury that results in a loss of value for his next contract, or in the case of a career-ending injury, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Happened right around the end of the season when Boras and Harvey went public about wanting an innings cap regardless of the Mets title aspirations. Might have been a bit prophetic since Harvey is dealing with arm soreness at the moment.

If there's one thing Terry Collins does that pisses me off above all else, it's that with a man on first, 1 out, and the pitcher up he ALWAYS takes the bunt off after 2 strikes. And it nearly always results in a GIDP. Been happening all year.

I don't understand it. If you're gonna bunt, just commit to it. I sure as hell would have rather had deGrom strike out trying to bunt and bring Granderson up in this wind with 2 men on than leading off the next inning.

You know he's gonna get a 3/30 mil deal from someone and suck fn balls after this.

Before the playoffs started most of the projections I saw on Murphy were around 3/30 anyway. He made $8 million this year so it's a reasonable bump in annual salary given his numbers.

Wouldn't shock me if a team went to 4 or 5 now at an even higher AAV.

Supposedly the Mets have zero interest in bringing him back regardless of his postseason heroics and no matter what he does going forward. He doesn't get on base all that much, which goes against Alderson's philosophy. He's also mostly terrible defensively even though he can play at 3 spots.

Serious post this time - You're correct. Andrew Friedman will pick a guy that fits that description. My only question is that, unlike the Theo/Cubs situation, he already has a stocked roster with vets and millionaire players. While they have fat they could trim, they aren't in a rebuild phase, right? Normally I would say he's going to find a bench coach ready to step up (Mike Maddux, Dave Martinez, Sandy Alomar, the usual names that come up), but it seems like alot for a first time manager. Goes to show that MLB, the NBA, and NHL don't want any team coming from Canada to make the playoffs, unless it's to be the prison bitch of the U.S. franchises.

To the fans of the Mets and Royals, you can take all the MLB trophies and shove them up all your asses.

Nice to know that the changes the 3 leagues above made to keep the Canadian teams getting weak, stupid players pays off for the corporate profits of the U.S. franchises, and leaving teams like the Jays, and Toronto's sports bars, in financial debt.

To me, the 2015 MLB season is over, with the Commissioner's Trophy vacated.

There was two of them, one on Navarro and also a missed balk. I don't thnk it's a conspiracy against the Jays, I think it was Jeff Nelson choking in the ninth inning of a big game. BUT, what happens when you miss your opportunitites early on is often in ANY sport, the calls towards the end have a way of going against you.

That 9th inning of Game 6 pissed me off big time. I said way back in June when the Mets and Blue Jays played a 4 game home-and-home series that it would be a dream World Series matchup to see the Mets' pitchers vs. the Jays bats.

It also would have been a better matchup for my Mets probably. Royals are objectively a way more complete team than the Mets. The good thing is the one area the Mets have the edge is starting pitching, which is the most important thing in the playoffs. They're going to live and die with their starters. Simple as that.

Well Mr. Doggie Dogg, take your potty mouth elsewhere.

Read what I said. The calls didn't sit well with me, but it says something that you can't give Wade Davis 2 strikes, because he's a monster. And also, they blew their opportunities early on, and usually in a tight game, when you don't capitalize, the calls go against you. That being said, those were some shite calls. I've seen calls go the Jays way all the same, (ie. Cecil striking out Gardner 3-2 with the bases loaded on a low strike, then striking out the side) but it's a point of contention regardless. The Royals deserved the win, and there wasn't much stopping them, but I'm allowed to be pissed with some shit calls, that jobbed Revere pretty hard. Donaldson also couldn't capitalize when he came up with 2 outs, and that's on him. Don't lump me in with whatever narrative you're trying to tell yourself.

Note, I never bitched about the home run. Price served one up and got pwnt, reach or no reach from neck beard boy. And the baseball gods squared it out by having Revere make that unbelievable catch later in the game.

No argument from me there. From the beginning of the series you can find posts of me praising the virtues of Kansas City. You even repped me for one of my posts.

People are too black and white. Because I'm saying that Revere got jobbed in his at bat and I think Nelson choked as an ump, I'm saying the Jays deserved to win. Kansas City deserved to win, but Revere (And Navarro to a lesser extent) deserved a fair shake at bat. The two aren't mutually exclusive. And I think the Jays deserve credit for sticking around in that game that long. Their offence was piss poor, but they really played some great defence to keep them in it.

I'm not "one of those" Jays fans. I don't accuse guys of choking, accuse guys of cheating, blah blah blah, but a bad call is a bad call. And yeah, if you're the actual better team that night, they usually don't effect you.

Hell I even said Volquez was hard done by on that call in game 5. Only difference is they'd walked Bautista all series and he fought off about a billion pitches, and the umpire gave him (incorrectly) the benefit of the doubt.

Can't read another article about this World Series. I've analyzed the hell out of it for the better part of a week and still am completely 50/50 on how this will go.

The Mets' success hinges on the starting pitching keeping up with what they've been doing, and the offense being able to jump on the KC starters early. But no team hits the high heat better than KC, and who knows if the layoff will have an adverse impact on the Mets' bats, especially if they try too hard to swing for the fences like Toronto did.

Hell, both teams even have a compelling backstory. The Mets have felt like a team of destiny since Wilmer Flores hit that walkoff bomb off of the Nats days after nearly being traded. The Royals are coming off of a year in which they were a hit away from winning the World Series in Game 7 only to lose, which is essentially the baseball version of blue balls.

It's been a 15 year wait, who knows when they'll be able to get back here. Just gonna enjoy this while I can. Ready to watch some baseball.

I think they've seemed like the team of destiny since Flores openly wept on the field. That whole situation was pretty cool. Especially how Terry Collins handled it.

The Flores situation was unlike anything I've seen before. It will definitely sting if they don't finish the deal here given how different the team might look next year. Nearly all of the players they traded for are impending free agents, with Cespedes of course being the marquee name. And now Murphy appears to be ready to cash in on a huge payday. Harvey and Familia among others are due substantial arbitration raises.

The Mets will definitely see a financial windfall from the extra revenue from getting this deep into October. The question is whether or not the Wilpons will be willing to reinvest those funds back into the team to either keep one of Cespedes/Murphy or bring in a big bat from the outside. The goodwill they've bought with the fans in the last couple of months will fade pretty quickly if they fall short of a championship and then do nothing in the offseason.

But alas, those are questions for the offseason and fortunately my Mets aren't there yet. Wish it was 8 PM.

Well the Mets currently employ the Dark Knight, so I'd give them a pretty good shot.

Royals bring up one of their top guys Raul Mondesi Jr.

Wonder if this is game changer for the Series.

One pitch into the game and Collins is looking like an idiot for not DH'ing Conforto and playing Lagares in CF. How neither Conforto nor Cespedes caught that is a joke.

Miami Marlins fan is back again behind home plate for the second World Series in a row. Bright orange jacket and all.

Just seems so out of place.

Daniel Murphy with a sweet hit to get things started for the Mets offence. On fire. Not trying to swing for the fences either, and then makes a great play running the bases. Great game so far, minus Cespedes little oops to start things off, defences are tight, and pitching is great. AND GRANDERSON JACKS ONE WOOOOOOO

Just waiting for his moment to do a run-in attack. Cubs failed with the Back to the Future stuff but Miami can still salvage something out of it by association.

I was bummed the Jays didn't advance but I'm glad I won't have to deal with any Gorgeous Dale Newstead posts for approximately ~300 days

Can't make any excuses for Harvey there. Needed a shutdown inning, didn't do it.

And now the Royals are about to jump into their bullpen. This doesn't bode well.
