Looks like Shohei Otani is gonna be the next majorly hyped Japanese pitcher. 20 years old, throws 100 MPH, said to already be better than Darvish and Tanaka were in their time in the Japanese leagues.

Stats on the year so far: 5-0, 0.80 ERA, 33.2 IP, 17 h, 9 BB, 38 K

Oh...and he's also a pretty good hitter and plays the outfield twice a week.

Pitchers have it tougher mostly because of how differnt the systems are here compared to Japan.

Frank Drebin

A bit different now since the max bid that goes to the Japanese team is 20 mil. Not like you have to pay 150 just to talk to them anymore.

Still not sure why the Japanese teams agreed to that. Teams like Orix have used their huge windfalls on large projects like to renovate stadiums and such.

Tanaka's team was fighting it. They wanted those "millions of dollars" bad. But, MLB and Nippon agreed, and that's how it is.

Old system still applies in South Korea. Which is cool.

White Sox are so bad I am already over this season :(.

One thing that hurts the MLB is that a lot of people only care about 1 or 2 teams. There are not many superstars that people crave to watch or teams. Yankees use to be that way but that has passed. I don't think the MLB ratings suck because its not as popular but that people only care about their team and stop watching when they are eliminated/out of contention.

and ESPN Sunday Night Baseball does little to change that. Every Sunday Night game so far this year has featured either the Yankees, Red Sox, or Cardinals. The Dodgers I believe have a few scheduled games as well. Gets so damn repetitive.

At least Royals/Tigers is this week to get some different teams in the spotlight. Then again the ESPN announcers are woefully bad.

People always get three parts wrong in "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." Random cancer survivor ladies singing the stretch at Wrigley are the first in a looooong time to get it right. Everyone gets it wrong. Feel like a curse has been lifted and I can finally go to heaven.

1) It's not "take me out TO the crowd" it's "take me out WITH the crowd"
2) Its Cracker Jack (singular) not Cracker Jacks.
3) It's "I dont care if I NEVER get back" not "EVER"

The hilarious thing is how people get so mad if they don't throw it back. If you were to ask the mob why you should throw it back they'd say "ITS TRADITION!!"......because keeping tradition has brought so much luck to this franchise, right??

I would give a foul ball to a kid, but I'm keeping the HR ball. I don't care if it was hit by Pablo Ozuna, it's a fn home run ball.

Mad respect for the once in a blue moon guy who has a random ball (be it from home or batting practice) and does the flawless transfer to please the crowd and keep the ball.

Frank Drebin
05-14-2015, 01:59 AM
113 pitches in a two run game for a team that, if they want to get back in it, needs every win they can scratch out? Pulling him was the right choice even if it would have been cool to see if he could have gotten to 20 or 21 ks.

A manager can't in good conscience take the reigning Cy young winner and have him throw 135 pitches in one game. You would want to skip his next start unless you wanted to risk long term injury which you're already doing. Anything past 115 in a non playoff game is not advisable.

Damian Rey

Evil Vito

Cody Allen to this point in the season has been one of the worst closers in baseball. You're damn right I would have thrown Kluber out there with a chance to do something that has literally only been done 4 times in 9 innings in the history of baseball.

It'd be one thing if he showed signs of laboring through the 8th inning, but no. He was fucking dealing. I'd give him a cap of 95-100 pitches the next start or something.

Evil Vito
05-14-2015, 11:05 AM
Of course they did. Doesn't mean I can't still disagree with the decision to not give the guy a chance to make history. If he hadn't given up that one measly hit they certainly wouldn't have pulled him, yet they're fine pulling him when he was on the verge of a far more impressive accomplishment?

I'd also argue that the Cardinals were probably ecstatic that Allen was brought in at that point. The Indians were fortunate it didn't blow up in their face.

The 4 highest vote totals in all of baseball are Royals. Looking very possible that the AL starting lineup will be 8 Royals and Mike Trout.

At this point I almost want it to happen because it might make Manfred realize that fan voting is a farce. Or at the least, limit votes to 1 per IP address. Some of the leads are crazy enough though that I'm willing to bet there is some sort of hacking algorithm going on.

Evil Vito
06-08-2015, 04:37 PM
While they want fans to vote the maximum number of times per day, I don't think they anticipated one team stuffing the ballot box to this degree. And if 8 Royals start the ASG it'll be the lowest rated ASG ever. This isn't what the average fan wants - it's what one city wants.

Some of the leads are unfathomable though. They still do paper ballots on top of everything else. Maybe Kaufman Stadium is handing out pre-marked ballots. That's what happened in 1957 with the Reds when their entire lineup got voted in.

No rational person believes that Hosmer, Moustakas, Infante, or Morales should be starting over Cabrera, Donaldson, Altuve, or Cruz. Its understood that there will be one or two "snubs" in the lineup every year but those all seem pretty egregious.

Interested in seeing if MLB launches an investigation of some sort.

The separation between all those comparisons isn't as far as you'd think. Hosmer and Moose are probably the 2nd best options behind Cabrera and Donandson at first and third. Infante I'll give you compared to Altuve, but it's not like Altuve is having a great year. Cruz is having a great year and Morales is having a really good year.

Catcher is probably the position I would take as the worst voting since Perez has been basically all defense and thats about it. Mccann and Martin have been comparable defensively and have had much better offensive years.

Evil Vito

While Hosmer, Moustakas, and even Morales (mainly because there are always 2 DHs) certainly have cases for bench spots, I'd be hard pressed to say they should be starting over the guys who are 1st, 2nd, and 5th in the league in slugging. I'd also say Prince Fielder may have a better case than Hosmer although Hosmer is still good.

I'm actually okay with Perez going. His offensive numbers are respectable for a catcher, but defense is clearly the #1 priority at that spot. Definitely hope Vogt makes the bench though.

Too bad they have the 2nd worst pitching in the AL, only ahead of the Red Sox which was evidenced in their 13-10 game. They've allowed 276 runs which is 2nd to Boston 289 in the AL

Preller was the one who axed Black. And while I certainly don't blame him for the current record,he's part of the problem and the move is a long-term in Preller building his team.

Black was an awfulin game strategist who bunted far too often and had questionable lineup usage. I doubt a new voice makes a difference,as I don't buy into that bs, but clearly Preller and the ownership want their own guy.

Some of that info the Cards supposedly got by hacking like scouting and player reports can easily have been gotten from regular places since everyone reports about those. Wonder why just the Astros though.

Figured the Astros being good this year is more of the AL West being a bit weak and their young/cheap guys finally developed well. Past several years the jokes have been about them being a "minor league" quality team because of how cheap the new owner was.
