He's awesome because they keep you guessing as to whether he is the real deal or not.
Also, as much as I love 616 Thor, he's kind of one dimensional. The Ultimates version is at the very least a more interesting take on the character.
Also, Ultimates 3 is garbage by the way. Takes everything cool about Ultimates, throws it out the window, and basically turns it into a generic 90's team superhero book.
Think I read a few issues of that before I really got into Ultimate Marvel.
Was that the one about: some crazy society led by Reed Richards? Or am I mistakin' that for some other Ultimate Marvel books? Because thaty was pretty bad and made me stay away from UM for quite some time.
And back to Thor, ok, I gotta agree it's pretty fun with this whole "is he crazy or really a god", but that activist bullshit gets on my nerves. Never met a norse god, but that doesn't seem like shit they'd get into.

Ultimatum is probably the worst thing I've ever read. It's like the comic equivalent of a sociopathic 9-year-old's action figure playtime. "And... and... Then Blob EATS HER! And like 20 people drown over there but we won't show it!"

So apparently Thor is soon to be replaced by a female Thor.
BY JOSHUA YEHLToday on ABC's The View it was announced by Whoopi Goldberg that Thor will no longer worthy enough to wield his magic hammer Mjolnir, so a new female Thor will be taking his place.
http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2014/07/THOR-001_cover-720x1093.jpg
“It’s a huge day in the Marvel Universe. Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he’s no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That’s right. Thor is a woman!” Goldberg said.
As to who the new female Thor is, it's hard to say. There's little to go on, as she is masked and is also going by the name Thor. The one detail we've been given is that she was once saved by Thor. But given his Superman-level powers in the Marvel Universe, who hasn't?
http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2014/07/Thor-001-720x1023.jpg
The debut of this female Thor will see a brand new Thor series launched, which means the end of the current Thor: God of Thunder series by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic. Aaron will stay on as the writer of the new Thor series, but rising star Russell Dauterman will now be on art duties. Aaron is adamant about the new Thor's gender not being a gimmick or anything less than the original.
“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before," Aaron said in a press release.
This new Thor makes for yet another Marvel comic with a female lead. Others include Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Elektra, She-Hulk, and an upcoming Storm comic. The new Thor series will be launching later this year.
What do you think of the new Thor? Who do you think it could be? Let us know in the comments!

Seems kind of dumb seeing as how Thor was the character's name not the persona's name like they could do with Spiderman. Whatever though, it's Marvel so I'm sure usual Thor will be back by next summer when Avenger's comes around.

Well, considering that Thor has been a frog and a lizard-alien thing, I don't think a woman is that big a stretch.

Thor was transformed into a frog, so still calling him Thor was fine. As for the lizard-alen thing, no one ever called him Thor. He was always Beta Ray Bill, even when he had Mjolnir.
So yeah. Naming her Thor doesn't make sense to me either.
Also, they've already had a female Thor for years. She's called Valkyrie. Dunno why they didn't just give her a series.
Will wait to read tho, as any concept can be good if written well.

Someone just showed me that. I'm not a comic reader so I didn't know if it was breaking news or something. I came here to tell you about it anyway but it's not as new as I thought. http://marvel.com/news/comics/2014/7/15/22875/marvel_proudly_presents_thor
I do know that comics undo things like crazy, though. A character dies "for realsies" but is ressurected by something or someone a few issues later, for example. Male Thor will do something to make up for whatever he did to mess up and be back eventually,
Why the sigh from Kalyx? New character for MvC4. Just 10 more years to wait.

I commented on i09 that her keeping the Thor name was very senseless, in that Thor is 'Thor' because that's the name his parents gave him. The hammer gives you the power of Thor, but it doesn't make you Thor. You're just worthy at the time. Essentially they wanted to keep the title on the book for sales.
Bear in mind it's already been mentioned that Valkyrie is essentially Batwoman to Thor's Batman. She could have the hammer without having the name (it could very well be her, though). And what about Lady Sif? She's had way more exposure after two movies and one of the most fun episodes of Agents. Just comes off strange, abrupt, and desperate - sense this is mostly to score points with the SJW/Feminist crowd. Falcon may well take a turn as the new Captain America for similar reasons (though there's more narrative weight to that at least).
So no this doesn't excite me for a new character in a game. She's not gonna last long enough to be in a game anyway. Alt costume DLC fodder, at best.

No, it's the 616 Universe. These are the replacements for now.
And it's Falcon, he more than earned the title long ago. It makes more sense than a possibly random chick being named Thor. A woman wielding the hammer isn't really an issue (at least for people who aren't assholes).

I'm cool with Falcon being Cap-- in fact, I kinda wished that he inherited the mantle back when Rogers died after Civil War.
I do think, though, that this isn't being done as any sort of natural progression of characters or story, and more just a way to garner attention and get pats on the back for being 'so progressive.' Otherwise a black Cap and a female Thor wouldn't be rolling out at the exact same time.
So, it's a good move, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I feel like they're doing it for cynical reasons.

Just a shake up for the Avengers line of books (Avengers NOW) similar to what they did a little while ago across the whole slate. Things may return to normal by the time Avengers 2 drops in theaters.

Nerf it down to PG13, keep the pop culture gags, downplay violence and language, 4th wall breaking is non-negotiable. It would be a fucking hit. What you want is more kids to be able to see this. Deadpool can play all kinds of demographics.
So I'm reading this Divided We Fall storyline and there's this black Spiderman kid. He just got the webshooters from Aunt May which kinda baffles me (he's been learning how to swing, too). This is like a year after his first appearance so did Miles Morales go for that long without shooting webs?
Also, sentient brain tumor. Wow.

Danvers being Thor would be pretty awesome, but no, she just changed her name to Captain Marvel.
I've read the first five issues of the new Captain Marvel, and I kinda love it. Kamala Khan being this superhero-obsessed fan-girl is adorably dorky, and they've been pretty creative with her shape-shifting powers. She's filling the "teenage uber-nerd superhero" spot that Spider-Man once held, which is nice. Probably not my favorite book on any given day, but it's still really fun.

Has the Mandarin invented Trevor, or has Trevor invented the Mandarin? Which is which?[...]The Mandarin could be so supremely intelligent that he could have said, 'You know what? I'll invent this actor, and he will be my mask.' You know, which is which? Who's pulling the strings. Now, this is me just free-thinking here, but I would love to revisit that world. But Trev, bless him, may have made an indelible mark on that world. So everyone might say, 'Is it Trev under there?' So they'd have to approach it quite carefully, and so would I, but I would love to go back to that world, yeah.
This is Kingsley just riffing, but bear in mind The Mandarin could have had him killed while Trever was in prison. The long and short of it is; Trevor was busted out.
In any case, with SHIELD rebuilding and HYDRA splintered, The Ten Rings could really make their move against Stark or anyone. Coulson may well have to deal with them.

Um... grain of salt and all that but...
I think Cap 3 will be Civil War. Marvel Studios prez says that his idea for Cap 3 was something he wanted to do for a decade (as in before Cap had a movie franchise, or that there was even an MCU - but Civil War was still reverberating in the 616). He hints that it will be a game changer in the vein of Winter Soldier.
If this pans out, I would have expected Avengers 3 to be Civil War, but it seems Thanos is all over that. Now that I think about it, Civil War is firmly a Cap led thing (in that his side was more sympathetic). It would also be great for Thanos to strike after something so messy topples the heroes of Earth.
There's also word that Drax would show up in Avengers 3, sure.
Lock Jaw
09-10-2014, 08:40 PM
I could see it. Kind of set it up a bit with Black Widow's speech before that committee at the end of Winter Soldier. She was basically like "What are you going to do? You need us."
With her checkered past out in the open, plus with the "Hydra Scare" going around, I could see some politicians wanting to have all the heroes sign up, register, pledge allegiance.... etc.
You would have to do the story on a much smaller scale in just a Cap movie, as it won't have millions of cameos. Could do something where Cap learns of the bill before it is passed.... some conspiracy stuff.... Cap thwarts some evil villain's plan.... but at the end of the movie the bill is passed anyways, setting the stage for further movies and The Avengers.

By Phase 3 they'll have a lot of heroes.

Nah, Sixx is right. You either have to change the solo movies to include a lot more heroes, or drastically change the scale of Civil War.
If I had to pick, I'd go with the latter, as seeing all the heroes on screen together should be an avengers thing. Lessens the impact when they are all together in the solo movies.
If I really had my choice, I'd say fuck civil war, cause it's dumb.
Lock Jaw

On the subject of characters than can and should always be taken seriously, though, I've started reading Magneto's solo book. And it's pretty hardcore-- he's like the mutant version of the Punisher now.

I read up about Silk. She has a Tarantula (DC) Mary Sue vibe about her in the way she trounced Peter hard enough that I think the writer had something to say. But overall she's kinda cool.

It was a cool read, wish he had more than a page or two but still an interesting twist. Silk is cool. I like how they connected her to Ezekiel and whole totem thing. I'm I love all the progress in Slotts Spider-Man and I'm loving that he's doing Spider-Verse.
The last issue was fun.

Robert Downey Jr. apparently confirmed to have joined the cast of Captain America 3. Looking more and more like some sort of Civil War will kick off.

Will you look at that. Who'd a thought.
And we might as well consider that Iron Man 4, he's not doing an extra.

I hope that RDJ doesn't "take over" Cap's own movie. Winter Soldier was sweet because of the espionage/spy/conspiracy feel to it.... RDJ doesn't really "fit in" with that tone.

Civil War is inherently political. Iron Man's own series dealt with those themes in its own way. I'd say he'll be perfectly fine.
Cap 3 itself may be the catalyst to Civil War, and the event will play out over several movies (into Avengers 4). I imagine Agents of Shield and Daredevil will work off it as well.

Hell why not have Ghost Rider get dragged back to earth with Civil War as well as Dr. Strange and the Defenders? Possibilities are endless.

No Nic Cage no go.
So, Wolverine is dead.
It was a good story, though I'm not sure about the ending.
Also, wonder how long he'll stay dead.

When's the next big universe shaking cross over event? Next month? Back by then.
When's the next big universe shaking cross over event? Next month? Back by then.
It's called Axis and it already started.
Second issue of the core series came out today. It's also in Captain America, Magneto, Uncanny Avengers and Loki: Agent of Asgard.

He'll stay dead until Disney gets the film rights to the mutants.

When he murdered his own son, it kind of ruined the character for me.
I was shocked he didn't do it way earlier.
Still, Daken is fine now.
Also:
Remember the time he actually killed like 5 of his children? Some group obsessed with Wolverine made him fight them, then everyone commited suicide except for one boy who told Wolverine those were all his kids. Was a weird story.

Yeah, didn't read that one.
I dunno, it's just that as many bad things as Wolverine has done, he's at least always had a code that's kept him somewhat honorable. He was on the precipice, but he hadn't crossed the line so much that he couldn't still be considered a hero. Killing Daken ruined that at least for me. Daken wasn't even pure evil. He was a bad person for sure, but he wasn't so far gone that he couldn't eventually redeem himself.
And yeah, I know that future Wolverine told him Daken would kill all the students if he let him live but that's stupid too. How many glimpses have we gotten of a future where Genesis becomes Apocalypse and kills everyone? That kind of thing happens in comics all the time. "Oh if you don't kill this dude a horrible future will take place" But they always find a different way to avoid that future because that's what keeps them heroes. Even if they're not the most virtuous of heroes like X-force.
Also, the fact that Daken is alive again doesn't make the fact that Logan killed him any easier to swallow for me.
So who do you think is the female Thor?
My bet is on either Frigga or Angela.
The first issue would suggest Frigga as more likely, but who the fuck knows.
