How any of you can already write off the new X Men film when it has only just been mentioned is laughable.
You all got insider knowledge that no one else knows about?
Didn't you see the director with the good track record?
Well considering that there hasn't been a GOOD X-men movie since the first, is it really that much of a stretch to expect this one to completely suck as well?

Unlikely, this cartoon was in production for a long time, way before any movie outline was around. The movie would be based on the cartoon if Iron Man ends up leading.

80% legit. And if it's just a work based on the recent textual descriptions it's a) a damn fast, high quality render and b) something they should use regardless because it's badass. However, I have a gut feeling that this is in fact the Cap's costume.
It is, however, rather 'advanced' in a way - which raised suspicions as to which movies it's supposed to be for (a certain team-up maybe).
OR it could be some cool random fanart, what do I know.

Given the shield, the chest emblem, and just about everything else he's wearing, I don't think it would be so ridiculous to include the wing emblems on the sides of the helmet.
I don't care enough to bitch about it, but to act like that's unrealistic and doesn't fit compared to everything else is pretty ridiculous

With the render style being similar to Cap's pics, I'd reckon that this is Marvel feeling transparent about their next two big heroes coming to screen. The design of the hammer reveals that the one seen in Iron Man is the same (I thought that they were allowed to use an early prop). Looks good, and we can imagine better how these heroes will look together. There seems to be a stylish aesthetic between Cap and Thor, maybe to have them mesh with Iron Man better. Overall I'd say Cap had a better transition than Thor, but they both look good.
Jeritron
06-03-2010, 11:37 AM
Not a huge fan of Thor's look there, if that is indeed legit. He looks a bit plain. In fact, he looks a bit like Magneto from the first X-Men film, aside from the head and hammer.
I would assume there will be another costume for his medieval armor? I would hope so, since that getup looks modern as hell.

I like Thor's look. It's kind of a cross between his recent outfit, and his ultimate look. They definitely look like they are being designed to mesh well, into iron man's semi-realistic universe, which is good.
Also, Jeritron, throughout most of Thor's history, a lot of asgardian technology and costumes have looked very high tech, and almost alien, with a bit of viking flair. So it's not really far off from the source material.

I'm curious about what Josh Halloway is going to be in all of this, if he's indeed involved. Maybe he'll be some kind of villain or side character from SHIELD or something.
Hawkeye seems like a strong possibility, but I had seen someone else mention that there was someone else in the running for that.
I feel like their biggest obstacle in this movie is going to be keeping it from being too crowded. I think they have enough on their plate trying to make a movie with a bunch of superheroes work. That's why I'm of the opinion that characters like Hawkeye and Vision should be held off on until a sequel, but if they can get it to work then whatever.
Kalyx triaD
06-03-2010, 04:45 PM
I think they could streamline the whole thing by focusing on four main characters (Cap, Thor, Tony, and... Ms Marvel?). Have two lesser characters. One villain for the second act (almost surely Hulk) and a major villain for the whole thing (rumored to be Loki or Skrulls). I think they could still keep it tight.
Jeritron
06-03-2010, 04:50 PM
Hulk as a villain is interesting, though if that happens it would almost undoubtedly lead to him joining the group.
War Machine and Black Widow are probably going to be the lesser characters. And Nick Fury of course.
Maybe Hawkeye could fit in there.

Fignuts
06-03-2010, 04:54 PM
They should save hawkeye and vision for the sequel. If they are going to have any heroes make their debut in the first movie, they should be Giant Man and Wasp. Original roster. Adding Hank Pym also gives you Ultron as a villain, who is one of, if not the avengers' greatest foe.
Fignuts
06-03-2010, 04:57 PM
I've said this before, but I think using Loki as the main villain for avengers would seem cheap and lazy, given that he will already be the villain for Thor. Most audiences will find it silly that an entire team of heroes is needed to take out someone thor alone will handle in his own film. Ultron is the way to go, imo.
Also, I think Hulk can start out as a villain, and possibly the reason they come together, but by the end, joins in, to fight the main villain of the movie.
Kalyx triaD
06-03-2010, 04:58 PM
I'm fine with Pym in the movie but God leave Giant Man out. Way too silly, even in a movie where thunder gods and super-soldiers rub elbows.

Twentieth Century Fox has offered the task of directing a Deadpool movie to Sin City helmer Robert Rodriguez. According to Playlist, the Austin-based Rodriguez, who was also offered a reboot of Planet of the Apes by Fox, but rejected it, is “considering” directing the X-Men spin-off.
Ryan Reynolds, who is currently shooting the Green Lantern movie, is still on board to reprise his role as Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine (see “Deadpool Movie in Development”). The fact that Fox offered the film to Rodriguez indicates that the studio is basically happy with the script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the highly amusing, genre-bending horror comedy Zombieland (see “Deadpool Movie Gets Writers”). Reese and Wernick appear to be an excellent match for Deadpool, the fourth wall-breaking mercenary anti-hero who is known as “Merc with a Mouth.”

The Hollywood trades are reporting that Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to return to the big screen as Johnny Blaze in a sequel to the 2007 Marvel Comics-based Ghost Rider film. Sony is in a hurry to get the production underway by this fall since the rights to the character could revert back to Marvel via a “use it or lose it” clause unless production begins this year.
The sequel, which is now titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, will be based on a script by David Goyer and directed by the team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer). Neveldine and Taylor also penned the adaptation of DC’s Jonah Hex that is due to debut this weekend.
Sony’s eleventh-hour attempt to hold on to the Ghost Rider rights comes in spite of the fact that the 2007 film, which cost $110 million and earned $229 million worldwide, didn’t quite break even theatrically, though it probably ended up in the black thanks to nearly $100 million worth of DVD sales. Sony, which with the exception of Spider-Man has been able to develop any comic book-based properties, is hoping to improve its chances of profitability on the Ghost Rider sequel by keeping the production costs down.

Sources for Latino Review say Marvel's looking into an ingenious way to introduce crowds to its "secondary characters." Does "secondary" mean B-list? I'm thinking it does...
Got a scoop from a well trusted source that Marvel/Disney are looking at doing 10 minute short films in front of their feature length movies that will introduce secondary characters like Black Panther, Luke Cage, Dr. Strange, etc.
...says LR HERE.
I can easily imagine this happening. 'Twould be a high-visibility, low-impact means of not only exposing audiences to characters not as familiar as, say, IRON MAN or CAPTAIN AMERICA - and would also serve as an excellent mechanism for gauging public and fan interest in seeing those same characters revisited in a longer format.
LR pointedly reminds us to consider this a "rumor" until more information is gleaned, but it's a fascinating (and fun) idea that I'd love to see put into motion.
Interesting idea.

Marvel Studios has assigned Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write a script for a Dr. Strange movie, according to Deadline Hollywood. Donnelly and Oppenheimer wrote the Conan movie (see “Ratner Helming Conan”) and an early draft of Cowboys and Aliens.
A Dr. Strange movie has been in development for a long time, including a brief period when Neil Gaiman was moving toward writing a script for a version to be directed by Guillermo del Toro (see “Gaiman Wants to Write Dr. Strange Movie”).

To be honest I don't think Dr. Strange is a big enough character to really make much of a movie. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I doubt many non-comic fans have any idea who he is. However, the Dr. Strange movie from the 70's or whenever is absolutely awful, so a decent DS movie would be cool.

Comic Book Movie's Bryan Kritz hears Hank and Janet may have already been cast. "A well trusted source close to Marvel Studios is saying that Nathan Fillion ('Serenity') will be playing Dr. Henry 'Hank' Pym. The actor is in final negotiations for a multi film deal that would start with 'The Avengers' in 2012. Eva Longoria ('Desperate Housewives') will play Janet Van Dyne as has long been speculated ever since leaving Marvel with a stack of Avengers resource material (that's comic books to you and me) in 2008. This would actually make her the second person cast for the movie, only behind that of Robert Downey Jr," he writes. He also notes it is unknown at this time if Hank and Janet will have superhero indentities or just appear as S.H.I.E.LD. agents. Of course, I'm always a little more skeptical of "well trusted sources" and "studio insiders." In the past, I've called them cover identities for Mysterio ... and really, why stop now?

That will make for three sub-universes Fox is producing; First Class, Wolverine, and Deadpool. It's a step back into territory we're already used to, but it's an odd reversal that one continuity actually splits into different parts - in any medium.

It looks like the stunning Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) will play Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn’s reboot of the X-Men film franchise, X-Men: First Class, which features a younger version of Professor Xavier’s mutant team than the one depicted in the first X-Men trilogy.
Created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, Emma Frost (aka The White Queen) first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 (January 1980). Known for her dry caustic wit, Emma Frost is a telepath who made the transition from one of the X-Men’s most dangerous foes to one of its key members.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British born actress, who also auditioned for the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, is in final negotiations with Fox to star in X-Men: First Class. Eve will join a cast that includes Michael Fassbender as Magneto and James McAvoy as Professor X (see “Magneto Cast”).

Marvel Studios announced today that Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones will play Colonel Chester Phillips in Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Jones will join a cast that includes Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Stanley Tucci in the Marvel Studios production that will debut on July 22nd, 2011.
It was actress Hayley Atwell who first leaked the news that Jones would be appearing in the Captain America film (see “Tommy Lee Jones in Cap”) back in May, but the role that the Oscar-winner would be playing was not revealed. It turns out that it will be a key one. In the Captain America continuity it was Colonel Phillips who recruited Steve Rogers for Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier who became known as Captain America.

Cooper joins a cast that includes Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, and Tommy Lee Jones (see “Tommy Lee Jones Confirmed”).

Jeph Loeb had a few general points to make about Marvel's new TV ventures. All shows will either air on ABC or ABC Family, which makes sense considering they're all under the Disney corporate umbrella. They'll mostly be looking to do one-hour dramas along the same lines of Smallville, and the key will be finding Marvel characters that lend themselves well to storytelling on a TV budget.
Origin, easy. But that's me. Also, some new Alex Ross art:

Chris Evans Speaks:
"It’s an amazing costume. Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it’s tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top – and given the fact that the movie takes place in the ‘40s and ‘50s – they’ve done a really good job of making it look really cool."
"I think everyone that’s going to see it is going to say, 'Okay, well done. Well done. I think they got the costume right. The casting they completely ruined, but the costume they nailed!'"
In comparison to his lithe, skin-tight Fantastic Four costume, Evans says: “[In the FF suit] …you could move around quite well. This is a little more cumbersome. It doesn’t exactly breathe the way the Fantastic Four costume breathed, but it’s the way it should be. Any type of World War II uniform would be a little chunky, and I think that’s what kind of gives it its character.”
“We’ve been testing a lot of shields. Last time I was in London they had six shields and I had to hold each one, see if I was comfortable with each one, see which one we all thought had the right look. The thing is pretty heavy, so I’m not sure I can throw it that far! I’ll give it my best shot, but hopefully they’ll have some sort of stunt shield when it comes to actually chucking it!”

They weren't originally a group of teenagers. They had history with Professor X that dated back to their youths (in some cases), but that was always the backstory and not the main incarnation of the X-Men.
If that backstory was exploited as the main focus of a story later on, then so be it, but it's not their original form.

Yea I eat my words about them not being originally younger. I honestly never gathered that. It didn't look it.
I still don't like the direction though. I feel like the intention here is not to be true to the origin comics but rather to bring youth to the franchise and take it in that direction.
Either way I'm just feeling the 80s-90s style of X-Men, which I feel is the version of X-Men that most people have wanted to see and has gotten them to where they are now.
I can deal with them starting over too. I think they screwed the franchise up enough after 2 that going the Batman route is acceptable at some point. I just don't think this is the place or way to start it.
I'd rather see them enter the story in the adult years, and just approach the material differently.

Jeritron
07-12-2010, 07:13 PM
I think a recast is pretty lame though. The whole attraction here is that they built towards this super-movie with individual installments, so to cast a new actor in the role for the first time takes the whole thing down a notch.
It's not disasterous, since it's only The Hulk, but it still sort of feels like they'd be better just leaving him out of it altogether, unless they only show him in Hulk form.
Kalyx triaD
07-12-2010, 07:21 PM
I rather they just use Hulk form if Norton couldn't be cast. Norton not making it makes recasting any of the other heroes possible (no matter how small). This is something Marvel should fight to work out. As you said is severely misses the point they were getting at.
A recast would make it the third guy to play Banner in as many films. Shitty.

I think it's the alien look that's a big turn off to people. I know that has roots in some versions of Thor, but I think the majority of people wanted/expected the ancient looking Norse epic.
I suppose this was a decision based on what would translate best into the universe they're establishing for Iron Man and Captain America.
If the movie works, it works. I am definitely not high on any of the costumes or sets I've seen though.
Conversely, I'm loving everything I see from Captain America.

I'm not coming down on you, it's just that the actual iconic look would be pretty ridic in real life. Marvel's been trying not to stray too far from the source material. I was hoping the franchise would switch hands after X3 (as much as I love Hugh, Patrick, and Ian). Along with Spidey after Spidey 3 so they could be included in Marvel Films grander plans.
Neither happened.

I mean, you'd figure they'd want to use the New Avengers somewhere down the line (3rd or 4th Avengers movie, maybe?), which means they'd need Spider-Man and Wolverine free to join the team.

Hugh's gonna film Wolverine 2 next year, imagine he pulls some shenanigans and walks on the set of Avengers - in garb - for a quick scene. Fox would probably sue him and everyone involved, but the epicness can never be undone.

Marvel ended their big day by having the Avengers cast come on stage for an epic photo-op. Along with a teaser trailer of sorts and Robert Downey Jr giving a Stark-ish hype speech, the crowd was pumped and Marvel made old news seem like a megaton. The game just got real.

G4 will be the exclusive U.S. television home of four brand-new anime series featuring some of the most successful and iconic brands from the Marvel Universe. Produced by Madhouse for Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan (SPEJ), these four original series will feature iconic characters from "Iron Man," "X-Men," "Wolverine" and "Blade" in an edgy new anime world. These series will premiere on the network in 2011, it was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con.
"We are excited to partner with Sony Pictures and Marvel to bring these incredible icons to G4," said Neal Tiles, President, G4. "Marvel has shattered box offices around the world and captured the imagination of our G4 viewers. Combine that with the passionate following the world of anime brings with it, and we believe this project has incredible potential for the network”.
Jeph Loeb, Executive Vice President, Head of Television at Marvel Entertainment said, “Bringing Marvel and our characters to G4 is such an awesome opportunity. The size and scope of the animation from top-flight studios Madhouse and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan is nothing short of mind-blowing. We look forward to the start of a beautiful friendship and can’t wait to see the reaction from our worldwide fan-base.”
Each of the four new anime properties - "Iron Man," "X-Men," "Wolverine" and "Blade" - will air as standalone series made up of twelve 30-minute episodes. Guided by multiple Eagle award winner Warren Ellis, the four shows will feature a matrix of interlinked storylines and shared guest characters that further enhance this intellectual roller coaster ride for G4 viewers.
Iron Man - In an effort to make amends for his weapons manufacturing past, Tony Stark has dedicated himself to building the world up rather than tearing it down. Traveling to Japan to build a new arc reactor that will deliver unlimited free energy to the Japanese people, Stark is challenged by the Japanese government and the media when he attempts to import the necessary nuclear priming device. And when the reactor-in-construction is repeatedly attacked by the mysterious Zodiac consortium, Stark must gather his allies to take on Zodiac and its mastermind.
X-Men - The X-Men are reunited following the death of a teammate, and are summoned by Charles Xavier to Japan following the abduction of Hisako Ichiki (Armor). There, they confront the U-Men, a lunatic cult that steals and transplants mutant organs to further strengthen their own army, and the battle for justice is on.
Wolverine - Based on the popular graphic novel by Frank Miller, the series begins in Japan, where Logan is challenged by Shingen Yashida, the notorious leader of a powerful mafia clan. When Shingen's employee Yukio, a female assassin, falls out of Shingen's favor, she must kill him or be killed. Teaming up with Logan, the pair seek out the villain to exact their revenge.
Blade - Eric Brooks -- known as Blade -- seeks revenge on Deacon Frost, the vampire lord who killed his mother while she was still pregnant with Eric. With all the powers of a vampire and none of their weaknesses, Blade's quest leads him throughout Southeast Asia in search of Frost, and, in Vietnam, he discovers a vampire plot that threatens to take down the whole world.
