Yeah, Let's hope Mo comes back to his original self. The last thing is The Mo we saw earlier this season. And I hope Sheffield talks we'll make him shut up for good after this series. I'm hoping we could take 3 from Detroit. I don't know how likely this is. But I'd be happy if we at least split it. About Boston I don't see us catching up. Not Because we can't but because Boston seems to have an easier schedule then us. While we are playing Detroit, Angels, Mariners, Detroit,(At home) Red Sox.

LOL Gagne. Definitely my favorite Red Sox player right now. Another blown save and another game he single handedly loses for the Red Sox.
On the flipside, how about Brandon Webb? He just pitched his 3rd straight shut out and has a 42 inning scoreless streak going, pretty insane.

I'm kinda liking that Proctor for Betemit trade right now. Betemit has 12 RBI's for the Yanks so far in limited playing time and dealing Proctor allowed Joba to be called up. Been pretty dominant, even if it has been only a couple weeks. Edwar and Joba have been ridiculous out of the pen this last week or two.
Farnsworth has even had 4 straight appearances without giving up a hit. That is unheard of for him. All of a sudden the bullpen looks pretty solid with Mo-Joba-Vizcaino-Edwar-Farnsworth-Villone-Henn

4 games out of the AL East.
I don't know how long that will last. Let's think through this......... The Yankees are taking on the Angels at home and who are the Red Sox facing the fucking Devil Rays. I don't think that we could really catch up to them because like I've said we seem to have the tougher schedule. We normally don't do to well against the Angels especially not when they're at home. I just have a feeling after we start facing Anaheim and Detroit(At home. And by that time they'll have Zumaya back probably) I think we'll be 6 or 7 games back. But like I've said that's because when the Yankees are facing them the Red Sox are facing the Rays and the White Sox before coming to the stadium for the series. Now I hope I'm wrong and we can get away some clean wins. I'm just not expecting a sweep I'd be happy with 2 out of 3.

Betemit is going to fit in nicely in New York, Along with Shelley. They are both free swingers with low discapline, but in that line up they see meatballs left and right.
Abreu has been stellar since the Break, Melky locked up center field for the next few years, Cano is amazing, and even Giambi has been looking good since coming back. Things are coming together.
You are all going to hate this one. Joba is amazing. Mo is old and has been looking like shit. I say let him walk, give Joba a chance or sign a FA Closer. For what they are going to pay him, Mo doesnt perform anymore. He has had a LONG dominant career, but even he is going to lose it someday (Which might just be now)
Resign Jorge, Let Mo Walk, Resign ARod to 50 mil a year if need be, Drop Damon (who is basically a DH that bats 240, cant run or get on base). Try to sign a solid 1B that can play everyday in the field

With the exception of your idea of Damon leaving. (He's one of my fave player and could be a great bench player.) About Mo I feel it's time to let him go except I don't want another team picking him up he is basically a legend. Can't we survive one or 2 more year with him? He just wants to pitch at the new stadium. And we don't even need to sign a FA Closer we got Edwar as the 8th inning guy. And Joba as potential closer but don't forget Joba is a starter so by 08 he might be on our 5 man rotation. And the first baseman issue can't agree more. Any suggestion on who we should try to get to play first though?

Mo is going nowhere and they'd be crazy to let him go. He doesn't get anywhere near the amount of chances this year, which accounts for a lot of his inconsistancy. He's shown he can still be dominant. He's a Yankee lifer, and he needs to stick around to mentor the young guys. Look at how he turned Luis Vizcaino around. He's just great for the clubhouse. If he starts to decline, his role can always be altered. He's one of the greatest Yankees of all-time.
Joba is going to start. If anyone is our future closer it's Edwar Ramirez.
Jorge also should go nowhere. They'd be fucking crazy to even let him out on the market.
Damon isn't as bad as you guys are saying either. He's just banged up. If he manned up and went on the DL earlier this year to get some time off he'd be hitting like he's been hitting the past couple weeks all year. That said, he still doesn't have a place in our lineup with Melky Cabrera pretty much pencilled in for the next decade and with Giambi stuck on the team because he's pretty much untradeable. Damon isn't a bench player, he's still a leadoff guy. They should trade Damon for prospects. Plenty of teams need capable leadoff men, and we could always use the prospects, either to help the pitching staff or to bulk up for a monster trade (Johan Santana?).
Dragon
08-20-2007, 03:46 PM
Letting Mo leave wouldn't be smart. He obviously isn't the dominant Rivera he once was but he is still better than most other closers out there. I'm pretty sure most teams would be lining up to sign him next year. Its not like he is awful this year. He's had this bad stretch of like 3 games, which he has almost every year around this time. Before that he hadn't blown a save for months. I really think if we let Mo walk we would regret it; I hope Cashman doesn't make that mistake.
I really hope Joba is not in the pen next year. The only reason I was hesitant about Joba coming up this year for the pen was that he would be stuck there long term (think Papelbon). Joba would help a lot more in the rotation and I hope Cashman sticks to his word about putting him there next year. The Yankees have a ton of set-up/closer type relievers in the minors coming up and nobody of Joba's caliber for the rotation.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I know its a business but Rivera more than earned whatever he will get this offseason. We would probably overpay but whatever, I don't have a huge problem with that after all the world series he lead us to.
I would be pissed if Joba doesn't start next year. There is a ton of relief pitching prospects able to help out the pen the next couple years. Ohlendorf, Sanchez, Melancon, Britton, Whelan, Edwar...just to name a few. You can't just pass up Joba's potential in the rotation to make him a bullpen arm. There's also a ton of starting pitching prospects in our system coming up but nowhere like Joba.
Cashman has a ton of decisions to make this offseason - A-Rod, Jorge, Mo, Abreu, all the DH's we have, etc...
As much as the current team is nice by having a bench with players like Giambi or Damon I don't think it'll be that way next year. After Abreu's last couple months I would seriously consider picking up his option as well because the only other one to play right would be Melky. Damon would be an absolute catastophe in right and he is pretty bad in center, the only place he can play is left. I dunno, should be interesting how Cashman handles all these decisions.
This article from the Onion pretty much sums up how I feel about this year.

Ideally, I'd trade Damon and have a young guy like Kevin Thompson as the fourth outfielder.
We should do what it takes to keep A-Rod. You can't just let the best player in baseball walk away to another contender. He was pretty much the only sign of life on the team for the first half along with Posada and Jeter.
Posada needs to come back. He's the most underrated part of the Yankee dynasty. He has a few good years left in him. You have to keep in mind that he started catching a lot later in life than most catchers, which is why he can still go the way he does. You won't find a better hitting catcher out there on the market and he's done a great job with our erratic pitching staff. He's a clubhouse leader and I can't see him in any other uniform.
I think Abreu's option will be picked up. He's a frustrating player but he seems to pull it all together in the end. If nothing else, he sees a shitload of pitches, gets on base and has a cannon for an arm.
This is a team that's finally starting to really gel together, it's something the Yankees haven't done in years. It'd be a shame to break it up. As bad as we were in the first half, I've gotta say, this is probably my favorite Yankee team this century.

As for a future first baseman, there really is not any good options out there this offseason on the FA market, so unless they convert someone, or trade damon for one, we might still be hurting defensively next year.
Abreu needs to be resigned. He pisses me off but without him the yanks are 10 games out. He has really pulled it together. Solid all around.
I like damon, but he needs to go. He is now a fourth outfielder and he has value, maybe send him out for a 2nd tier first baseman. I will take a aerage hitter with good fieldign skills, we have tons of offense, a solid D guy not named cairo would be nice.
Joba would be dominant as a closer, but I do see what you say about getting him into the rotation. You were right about him being like Papelbon.
What are the chances Mo takes a Setup role in the next few years? Let Edwar try to take his spot? Mo is like Bernie, I wish he could play forever, but eventually he is going to have to go.
The classic yankees are starting to get old.
I still wish Donnie baseball could have played one more year and gotten that ring. I would give up a few rings just to see him get one.

Yeah, but here's the good news. We did good against a Young Left hander that we had never seen before that's an improvement because the Yankees often would be murdered by those type of pitchers. Sean Henn should be DFA'D as soon as possible. And Clemens he didn't do to good either he gave up six runs you can't do that. But we take the next 3 games all is forgotten. I dont know how I feel about that. I hate Muss, always have, and he needs to be out of the rotation, but Kei on a good day isnt as good as a bad moose. Shit, give a farm hadn a chance, with the rus support he will get he might just get by.

He won't be sent to the minors. I don't know what they will do with him but I know he won't agree to go to the minors. There is no way we can keep sending him out there every 5th day though, its tough to even watch him pitch lately. I hope its not Igawa on the other hand. I'd rather go with White or Kennedy; we know what we will be getting with Igawa and it really isn't much better than Mussina right now.

It doesn't look like Kennedy is going to be a starter at least not right now. But I am so sick of the Moose right now. I don't care what happens I want him off the team. Hey I was thinking Joba is a starter right? Can't we put him in Mussina's spot? I don't care what happens to Mike.

Yeah, I would have been more pissed if that Sox player was called safe. Sometime late in the game a tagged runner was called safe at Third when it was clear that he was OUT. I forget which of these Sox players it was but the moment it happened every yankee fan started chanting "Out, Out, Out, Out, Out, Out, Out Out," And finally he was called out. It was at the moment when Terry came out and started arguing about the call and got thrown out himself. All in all I couldn't wish for a better game. First I get to see Joba and see my first Red Sox game then I get to see them sweep the Red Sox. And this was the best of all in my opinion I was up in the N Section in the tier in the second inning until a couple Boston fans with very strong Boston accents come up to me and ask me to trade seats with one of their friends so they could sit together. He had been sitting in the A section. That was a huge improvement for me to see the game better.

Yeah, he's been doing pretty bad tonight. But the way I see it it's his first year let him get settled in by 2008 he's gonna be a star mark my words. One loss after a Boston sweep is pretty good. Boston is on it's way to losing to Baltimore any way.

Dominated by the Devil Rays. Not a pretty night.
Hughes was actually throwing at decent velocity tonight, his velocity has been down since he came back but it looked a little better today. I really wish we didn't have to rely on Hughes so much this year because its a ton of pressure for a 21 year old kid. Obviously is the case though seeing as we are in a pennant race. Now we have to rely on Kennedy tomorrow to pitch a decent game.
Should be interesting in a couple years with the big three (Hughes, Joba, Kennedy) all possibly in the rotation and in their mid-twenties.

The Yankees never outbid the Red Sox, because he signed with Texas, and then was traded to the Yankees. So that point is moot. I dont think Boston was even in the A Rod Sweepstakes, because they had Nomar. It was basically the Mets and the Rangers looking for him.

I never said I didn't want that. Sometimes I have a hard time getting my point across. I am a big supporter of A-rod. I said I didn't want him playing on the Sox. I wasn't saying he's not as good as anyone on the Sox. Me being a Yankee fan just doesn't want A-rod playing in Boston because I know he'd own us if he played there.

A-Rod was going to the Sox before he came here though. The trade was all set I think between Texas and Boston but MLB denyed the trade because A-Rod was deferring too much money or something like that. The Red Sox will definitely try to get him in the offseason, they wanted him back then and I'm sure they'd still want him now. It doesn't really matter how much "bad blood" is between A-Rod and the Red Sox.

That was awesome. 3 No Hitters this year. Bucholz, Verlander, Burhele. And almost had 2 more this season that stretched all the way into the 9th Schilling and McGowan
Scott Baker took a fricking perfect game into the 9th inning yesterday
Clay Buchholz is my hero right now

Are you retarded?
The Yankees never outbid the Red Sox, because he signed with Texas, and then was traded to the Yankees. So that point is moot. I dont think Boston was even in the A Rod Sweepstakes, because they had Nomar. It was basically the Mets and the Rangers looking for him.
From what I can remember the deal was done for him to come to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez but the Players Union blocked it due to the reconstruction of his contract, which would have resulted in him losing money or something. The Red Sox where then going to get Magglio Ordonez to replace Manny Ramirez somehow, but I don't remember for who.
That is the reason why Nomar became so sour towards the front office/being on the Red Sox. One thing that probably really set him off was Kevin Millar's reply to this question; "Kevin, this up coming season you're covering first on a ground ball to the shortshop, who's throwing the ball to you to get the runner?"
Millar's reply; "Alex Rodriguez, no doubt in my mind"
Also, I wouldn't be against A-Rod coming to the Red Sox. He is one of the greatest players ever, but he's still a clown. Everytime some stupid shit goes down, he's always involded. Like trying to tag Youk and missing (Youk wasn't out of the base path when A-Rod missed), screaming "HAH" at a Toronto infielder or slapping the ball out of Arroyo's hand like a little fairy when running to first base (Then trying to play it off like he can't believe that isn't allowed) Plus he just seems like an up tight asshole who takes him way too seriously. You're just a baseball player man, you aren't that important - relax a little bit. If A-Rod did come to Boston, I would compare to a current Red Sox player, Curt Schilling. I think Curt Schilling is a huge asshole but I do like what he has done/is doing for the Red Sox.
Also, Clay Buchholz

Jays are making themselves a contender *sigh* again. Mind you, they play the RedSox next. This year it seemed to me the Jays didn't do well against the teams they needed to beat when they needed to beat them. IF They could sweep or take 2-3 from the Sox AND have the Yankees loose 2 of three or be swept, then I'll get excited. *sigh* again.

Man, the Yankees are so frustrating this year. They sweep the Red Sox and then lose two of three to the Devil Rays. They're 6-0 against the Indians this year but something like 4-8 against the Orioles. Hopefully with Seattle coming to town they play with that same sense of urgency as they did with Boston.

The thing with the Yankees I happen to think is that they just misjudge the O'S and the Devil Rays a little bit. I mean when you're facing Seattle, Boston, Mets, Indians, or the Angels you know you're gonna have to be on your A game. But when you're facing Tampa or Baltimore. You think you don't need to try as hard to beat these teams. Torre had said it himself in the New York Times. They just don't try as hard when facing the O'S rays, etc.
I really think we can at least take 2 of 3 from Seattle though. If Clemens pitches like he did when we faced Beckett I think we'll be fine.

This last month is pretty much all teams from our division so the Yankees better stop taking them so lightly because beating those teams are the only way into the playoffs.

Watch Seattle is on this big losing streak and will then sweep the Yanks. But I say if the Yanks sweep them they got the WC locked up IMO.

Sox come back in the bottom of the 6
Whenever Dice-K pitches well he loses cause of no run support, but when he pitches shitty like yesterday he gets all the run support in the world and wins. Hopefully he isn't getting worn out by MLB cause he is used to playing 50 less games in Japan.
