I believe it was the very first of it's kind. 'SkyDome'
lol no shit that makes sense
I am gonna assume I knew this previously and just simply forgot or something
Pretty dumb they changed the name from SkyDome to the Rogers Centre, I mean I can understand why they did it but the name "SkyDome" was pretty bad ass. And another thing, they really gotta change the layout of the turf they use. You can clearly see the square patterns and it looks real shitty, I know why they use that style (a lot more mobile) but it looks horrible.
YOUR Hero
05-10-2007, 12:58 AM
Marketing bullshit, you know. As for the turf, I wish they could get some time of real grass in there, but the Rogers Center is used by tons of groups so I guess real grass wouldn't work. This turf they've got is the new improved stuff, but yeah you are right, you can see it for what it really is.
Jesus Shuttlesworth
05-10-2007, 01:06 AM
I don't mind the FieldTurf so much, its just the fact it looks like there is 1000 rectangles of turf all over the field...I've never really noticed that in other parks (I know its definitely not like that in Minnesota, where the Red Sox just played the other night)

The Yankees have about 4 guys that are hitting the ball at all lately. Bats are pretty dead.
5 of the starting 9 are batting under .250 for the season as well.
At least the Red Sox lost one.

Stima, that Willie Mo sure can play the outfield.
play it yes, play it well no... although he's not 1/2 bad in center field and has a great arm.
As for Lester, I think he's still on rehab in AAA no decisons been made yet to bring him up, Tavaraz hasn't been 1/2 bad and I think they'd rather have lester start in AAA then be middle relief in the bigs.

backet left the game with torn skin on a finger... this ain't good, I'm assuming it's blister issues again, which means they're going to shut down his curveball and it will be like last year when most games all he had was "3 different fast balls, hard, harder and hardest"

When did I ever say he was that good of an outfielder? I just said he was better you
I am sure you really show off your arm and range for that beer league softball team you play on
Also, what a ridiculous finish to the Red Sox game...thank god that pitcher dropped the ball though because Lugo swung at ball 4
YOUR Hero
05-13-2007, 10:19 PM
settle down, Stima. That's pretty close to a kano-esque spazz out rite thurr
Jesus Shuttlesworth
05-14-2007, 02:41 AM
How so?
I was actually giving you credit saying that could probably catch the easy fly ball, however I feel that Willie Mo being a major league player has better range and a stronger arm.
I still can't believe the Red Sox 9th inning though...Red Sox score 4 runs with 1 out(should have been 5 since Youk was definitely save at home) then Youk gets thrown at home (again, he was safe) so its 2 outs. Lugo works a full count with the bases loaded (Sox down by 1 now) only to swing at ball 4 which was grounded to Kevin Millar. Millar stabs it makes a pretty good throw to the pitcher covering first but luckily he was a stiff and dropped it, 2 men come around to score and the Sox win
Beckett's finger is really concerning though...if its worst case scenario that is gonna be a huge blow since he has been pitching unbelievable this season.

05-15-2007, 03:55 PM
Yeah I am hoping he is able to gain some consistency, especially now with Beckett cutting his finger. I don't think Beckett will be out long, but they are going to cut down on his throwing on the side, which is really going to hurt him since that is the big change he made from last year.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
05-16-2007, 01:15 AM
It must be the way he grips the ball when he is going to throw a curve, since all the problems are related to that I think. The seems must just rub against his finger or something

The playoff outlook right now is so crazy in the AL. I know it's early to even be thinking of it, but I don't think the Twins have the arms to make a comeback like they did last year (granted they aren't in a huge hole...yet) and the Yankees are again a big mess. Boston looks like the team right now, but sometimes the team with a big jump early fades. I still see Boston being the top team in the AL come September followed by Detroit,
but as of right now I think the Indians take the wildcard and leave the Yanks out of it.

Much needed win for the Yankees going into Boston tomorrow.
The rookie Clippard looked really good. Going 6 innings, 1 ER, 3 hits, 6 K's. And a double lol.
The offense was clicking and overall they looked really good. Mo gave up another homerun though, which I hate to see. Need to win the series against Boston somehow, really need to start taking some games off that lead.

Help me out here...
Was it not already established that Giambi did roids? Did he not apologize and it seemed like everyone was forgiving him because he 'maned' up about it?
If what I've already typed is correct, then why are the Yankees now considering voiding his contract because he recently brought it up again and stated that baseball itself needed to apologize for the scandal.
To me that's sour milk. I bet if he wasn't struggling to put up monster numbers, there'd be no talk of voiding his contract.
Dunno, if the Yankees do, I think that's low. Had they done this when he first admitted it like 2-3 years ago, fine. But now? Nah, that moment has passed.
Dragon
05-21-2007, 02:01 AM
Yeah, I'm not really understanding the situation all that well. A couple years ago he admitted the same thing. So I'm really not understanding why MLB is looking to suspend him and all the stuff about voiding his contract.
He pretty much is saying the same thing as last time so why is MLB trying to suspend him? Everyone knows he has done steroids. It seems like they are trying to punish him for telling the truth here. Not trying to side with Giambi or anything here, but just saying he should have been suspended/whatever the first time he said this.
As for the Yankees, I'm pretty sure it is just about getting rid of his contract. They tried to void it last time he said this, and are just seeing an opportunity to try it again I guess.

Yankees rotation in 3 years?
Hughes
Desalvo
Humberto Sanchez
Clippard
Wright
Wright and DeSalvo probably won't be in the rotation in three years. Both aren't anything too special really. Sanchez might end up in the bullpen because of all his arm problems. He has good stuff though so maybe the closer of the future. We actually have a ton of solid pitching prospects, just a lot in the lower levels. The chances of having a whole rotation of farm hands is pretty slim though. I'd be happy if just some become solid major league pitchers.
Ideally we would have 3 of our prospects work out by then. But thats still a pretty big if.
Wang
Hughes
Free Agent
Clippard
Joba Chamberlain (University of Nebraska pitcher, pretty highly touted and upside is that of Hughes apparently).
Thats a lot of stuff working well though. It could probably look nothing like that.
BCWWF
05-21-2007, 02:29 AM
Doesn't Giambi only have one more season left after this? Even as rediculous this timing is by the Yankees, it doesn't seem to do much for them. They save some money, not too much at this point though, and have to assume they find somebody better in free agency? Come on. Who finishes out this year, Doug Mientkiewicz? (Mind me, I haven't followed the Yankees to closely this season, so if the last couple lines are totally off base let me know.)
People hate Giambi for a lot of reasons, many of them justified to some extent. The only thing about him that I totally detest is how he was even nominated for comeback player of the year. I'm pretty sure he won the award too, but the fact that coming back from a non-steroid slump deserves an MLB award is just rediculous.
Jesus Shuttlesworth
05-21-2007, 02:32 AM
Why do the Yankees care about getting Giambi off the books after agreeing to pay Clemens 4.4 mil per month?
FakeLaser
05-21-2007, 02:41 AM
We'd probably have a Mientkiewicz/Phillipps platoon with Phelps DHing. Either that or we'd deal for Todd Helton or something.
The whole thing is stupid though. The Yankees aren't going to void shit and they're going to be stuck with a miserable Giambi.
Dragon
05-21-2007, 02:46 AM
Yeah, they tried to void it a couple years ago and nothing happened. It won't happen this time. I see them going hard for Teixeira if he becomes available; Texas is probably looking for a fortune though.
I have seen the Helton rumors, I'd hate to get him though. It would pretty much be how Giambi is now at the end of that deal, which is like 4 more years and a ton of money.
FakeLaser
05-21-2007, 02:49 AM
I wouldn't want Helton even though he's tearing shit up right now.
Imagine Teixieria though. Better glove than Mientkiewicz, better bat than Giambi.
Dragon
05-21-2007, 03:08 AM
Yeah seriously, I'd love to get him. We really haven't had a good all-around 1st baseman since Tino. We can't afford to keep having 1st base DH's especially since we have a ton of DH in the makings on this team already. Damon, Matsui, etc...are all going to be nothing more than DH's in a while.
Speaking of Damon, I've heard a lot during this Mets series of how we passed up Beltran even though he was asking for less money from us. Getting Damon instead of Beltran is looking like a pretty awful move right now. Damon is falling apart already; I thought he'd last a couple solid years before being injured all the time on this contract. I like Damon a lot but he is falling apart. Never really heard of them passing up that signing before but looks pretty awful.

It's a longshot, but if Tavarez can pitch like he did last week against Detroit and go 7 innings then we won't have to overwork the bullpen, seeing how they might be pitching more now that Beckett is on the DL.

Possibly the best game I ever went to. Bleachers were pretty awesome. We sat right behind the Yankee pen so we watched Wang warm up before the game. It was pretty sweet, I was like 10 feet away from him. Yelled "GATOR" at Guidry and he waved at me. Ortiz blasted a home run into the bullpen during BP and the security guard gave the ball to my friend. I also watched Mo warm up in the 9th, like 10 feet away from him. Pretty amazing.
It was like playoff atmosphere in the stands. Everyone was going crazy. I can barely talk today. So many people got tossed; there were fights everywhere. A Red Sox fan in my section got tossed by like the second inning because he was harassing everyone so much. It was like 70 degrees and sunny, the perfect day to go to the stadium.
I called A-Rod's home run. Non-chalantly, I said to my friend, "A-Rod is about to blast one right here." Next pitch he jacked it right to left field where we were sitting. I went nuts. The whole game we were standing on the benches screaming and shit. We won and won big so I couldn't have really asked for a better time. Can't wait to get back to the stadium again.

Big win by the worst pitcher in the majors today
I'll give you that. He got lucky though, we should have blown him away like 4 times. Abreu has been absolute garbage.
Even though we lost, I felt pretty good about last night's game. We hit pretty well against Okajima and Papelbon who have both been unhittable up to this point. The few guys who aren't hitting (Abreu, Mientkiewicz, Cabrera) really fucked us up last night. I was really hoping A-Rod didn't walk in the 8th because I knew Abreu would strike out or something.

Mussina had a shitty 1st inning then was on until the 7th inning. It wasn't a good start but he didn't pitch as bad as the numbers show. He had a really low pitch count. He threw something like 30 pitches in the 1st inning and by the 6th he had only thrown 70 pitches because he was on for a few innings. The bullpen also did a good job not allowing a run which is something they haven't done in a while.
Tavarez didn't pitch as good of a game as the numbers show either; he got lucky that we didn't hit with runners in scoring position. He was constantly working out of jams. He didn't allow that many hits but he walked plenty of guys. We had a lot of chances to come back, we just blew them all. Abreu basically killed every rally we had going.
We almost came back against Okajima (had the bases loaded against him) who has been unhittable and the same for Papelbon, we had something going against him.
Maybe "feeling pretty good" was a bit of a stretch but it was a closer game than the scoreboard leads on. There were things to be optimistic about and I didn't shut the game off because of the score because there were so many points in the game where it looked like we were going to come back.

Yeah they had a shitload of walks, but the pitchers where able to work around them. I dunno, the Yankees had like 4 hits total. Eliminate the walks (something which Papelbon and Okajima aren't know for anyway) and that game was a blowout.
Also, Manny's homer in the 1st inning was some of the sickest shit I've seen in a while.

So, Josh Hancocks fathers must have been talking with Donna Lewis (Reggie Lewis Wife) he's suing the bar owner and manager for over serving his son (ok, I can see this argument) but he's then also suing the driver of the Tow Truck his son ran into and the driver of the stalled car that the Tow Truck driver was helping.
The claim on the driver of the Stalled car is improper driving which allowed the car to stall and not getting it off the road.
The claim on the Tow truck driver is he was there for to long, didn't put out flares and didn't get the car off the road.
Now, let's keep in mind he had almost twice the legal BAC, had weed in the car (wasn't reported if it was in his system), was speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and talking on his cellphone at the time of the crash.
As I said, I can see a case against the bar owner/manager but the reality is the only person who will really get held liable is the bartender/tenders who served him.
Suing the Tow Truck driver and the driver of the stalled car is just silly.
This just brings back memories of Donna Lewis continuing to make an ass out of herself by suing doctors over and over, when the reality was his heart was damaged from Coke use and it was her idea to in the middle of the night pull him from a team of the best doctors in the country to another hospital. (yeah, I still after all the years am bitter that his death could have been prevented if not for her).
Anyway, will be interesting if any of the suits actually make it to trial.

Bleacher seats.
What about them? (just not sure what you're getting at).
Fenway has bleachers, those sell out also and even on stubhub you're looking at 40-50 for the worst of the worst seats against a bad team, expect to pay $75-$100 for bleachers vs. the top teams.
Although, they keep finding ways to add a few seats at fenway... the new rumor is move the bullpens under the bleachers and turn the bullpens into seats, there's also talk of them trying to do like wrigly and put seats outside the park, problem with that is the height of the wall and CF "diamond vision" plus the roofs across the street are either parking and clubs.
There was also talk of them moving the field lower to the earth to add seats, I'm not a design person but I don't see that one working.

I think the one thing that has been going well for the Red Sox this year as compared to last is the fact that coming into both season where was a lot of "ifs" and it just that most of them (thus far anyway) have been working out, where as last year they all blew up in the Sox faces.
I am really interested to see how Beckett does coming off the DL, and I am even more interested in how the cut he had will affect his off day throwing routine. I guess he changed his routine up a lot this year, and has been having great success. I heard something about the cut possibly forcing him to go back to last years routine which will blow ass.

I think John Kruk said it best on Baseball Tonight, that when the Yankees hit, their pitching blows the game, and when their starter is doing really well they can't give him run support. There's no unity in the field for them. But I also thought the Yankees were gonna be immense this year.

The team this year is just pretty frustrating. No hits with RISP and not taking advantage of the baserunners they gave us; they really should have had more than 1 run in that inning. So many problems with this team it seems. Our outfield is pretty much dead on both sides of the ball, no hitting and no defense.
Pretty tiring seeing Pettitte pitching great games and getting saddled with losses as well. 2.40 ERA and a 3-4 record.
I still believe they will make a run soon but every game they lose is that much bigger of a hole to climb out of. Boston could really kill us this weekend if they have a big series.

Wow, went to the Twins game today and it turned out to be a great one. White Sox went up 4-0 early and eventually 6-1, but the heart of the Twins lineup (Cuddyer-Morneau-Hunter) kept coming through until they tied it up.
Then bottom of the ninth one out, bases are loaded and Morneau comes up. All he needs is a sac fly to win, but on the first pitch he pops out to Pierzynski. Then Hunter comes up, and we all know that if he doesn't come through the game will go at least another two innings until the heart of the lineup is back up. So White Sox bring in a righty to face Hunter and he walks him in four pitches, driving in the game winner!
Not bad for a day game.

Yeah that'd make sense since neither party would get the ball...I really don't get why Doug wanted it in the first place, I think I remember him saying "This ball is gonna put my kid through college" but it was a joke obviously. Really don't think he needs to worry about money after playing in the majors for so long

The A-Rod yelling thing is so ridiculous, people yell all the time on that play on pretty much every level of baseball. Nobody is ever gullable enough to fall for it though
Armando Benitez was traded to Florida for Randy Messenger. Looks like he can be a dick on his old team again.

I figured Benitez would be traded to Florida at some point.

Does Mientkiwicz still have the last out ball? That would be pretty hilarious.
They don't call him "Death Grip" Doug Mientkiwicz for nothing.
But to answer the question. He owns the ball. But right now, he has it out on "loan" to the Boston Red Sox. Whether it's at Fenway, Red Sox HQ, Cooperstown. I don't know.

I don't think the A-Rod thing is a huge deal. People in the dugout yell shit if you're trying to catch a ball near it and crap like that.

Actually, it rarely does in the majors, hence why such a big deal was made of it...
will be interesting if the Jays drill him next time they play.

Last I heard he still "owns it" he did lend it to the Red Sox, but it belongs to him.
His argument was, he gave the ALDS championship ball to Foulke and the ALDS to Lowe (or vice versa) and decided to keep this one for himself.
Now, maybe you could argue he wanted the sentimental value, but I think it was all about the money.

JD Drew sucking is getting old, he either needs to start hitting or they gotta move him back in the order. They are just wasting runners on base with Edgar Renteria part2 batting 5th

Yikes. Torre ejected in the 5th. Went round and round with the 3rd base ump. over a bad call at 3rd at which Abreu was safe after stealing, but got called out anyway.

Youkilis pretty close to being hit in the head. I do think the Yanks needed to retaliate for all the guys getting hit but that was too close to the head.
Meanwhile, Mattingly is being awful and using all of our best relievers with a 6 run lead.

lol just saw the Zambrano/Barrett fight in the dugout. Zambrano is an idiot, he threw a ball away forcing Barrett to chase it down, pick it up then try to throw it to 3rd while looking directly in the sun. Yeah Barrett probably should have just ate it since the dude at 3rd would have probably been save anyway but how can you blame the dude after he tried to make a play to help you after you just threw it into the dirt right at the batter's feet?
Also just another random baseball note, in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated they have a picture of a pitcher from Creighton who pitched 60 something pitches with his right arm then 30 something with his left in the same game...what the fuck?

The only plunk that looked intentional was Lopez hitting Cano, he looked pretty pissed after that. Not sure what was going on with the Sox pitching tonight, but there was just no control on the mound at all.

Hell of a game of beanball yesterday. Too bad I missed that big 4th inning by a few minutes.
What is going on with Scott Proctor? He had that thing with the Mariners and now he's going head hunting for the wrong reasons. I don't know what's buzzing through his head, but I expect something to come down from maybe MLB or the Yankees about that. Totally uncalled for.

Yeah, I agree. I would have tried to have Wang get Ortiz out. But that's what Mike Myers is for. Go with Bruney in the 7th maybe stretch him to the 8th. And go with Mo in the 9th. Way to tire out our arms Donnie Baseball.

Bruney would be a much better 8th inning guy than Farnsworth. I said this at the start of the season.

Yeah, he's been probably our best reliever this year. I dunno, our bullpen worries me if we are gonna make any kind of run. There's quite a few options in AAA though that could help, but I don't think any moves will be made.
There's a kid Edwar Ramirez in AAA who has been pretty ridiculous so far-
0.34 ERA in 26 IP, 47 SO in 26 IP
Britton is another option, he's up now but just until Clemens is back on Monday.

LOl Francona is great. He's doing an interview during the 4th inning and Ortiz is standing behind him mocking him...
Buck : You're DH is standing behind you mocking you.
Fracona : Oh i'll knock him on his ass!

Wow, that could possibly be the worst inning I have ever seen. Misplays by Abreu, Cano, Jeter and A-Rod. Doug carried off the field with a probable concussion. Went from up by 1 run to down by 4.

Complete garbage. Proctor was spooked from last night, and Abreu is fucking afraid of the wall. That inning could have been over and done with. And that game would have been ours.
God I hope Doug is alright. He's been doing some pretty good work lately.
Jorge Posada for team captain.

That it is
Also, some dude came into the packy today when I was working (dude comes in all the time) and he had the NY Post that was featuring a photo of A-Rod and that girl at some hotel in Vegas claming he took it. I was like yeah okay fuck you buddy but then showed me like 15 other photos all from the same resort so I really don't think he was lieing. Pretty wild, the story seemed real too cuz he was like "I just thought it was him and his wife, figured they would give me some cash for but not much. Then I found out it wasn't even his wife, then they gave me a lot of money.......more enough for another trip back to Vegas"

Damon is going to play first base.
Interesting...
Anything that has Damon throwing less has the potential to be brilliant.
