Fucking dick clowning around with Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano all year like he's their fucking pal and mentor or something then he says fuck you to everyone. At least go out with some class and listen to what YOUR TEAM has to offer.
Speaking of that. I was reading on some site that Cano was doing some interview yesterday or something and found out from one of the guys that A-Rod was opting out. With how close he was to those two you'd think he would have talked to them at least or something. He obviously doesn't owe it to anyone but you'd think he would have talked to them.
And yeah, seeing this play out like this after supporting him the past couple years is pretty rough but whatever. I know people will talk about how poorly fans treated him here and some did, but not nearly as many as people like to think.

I wonder if this means we'll go after Johan Santana or Miguel Cabrera now. We have a shitload of money to spend but no decent free agents out there. I don't know if we have the pieces to land either, at least without pissing me off.
I think we'll go after Mike Lowell hard. He's the right kind of guy for the Yankees. He came up through the system, is a decent hitter and has a great glove. He's the type of solid player that helped us win in the late 90s... not a superstar, but very good.
We also have Wilson Betemit who could start. I don't know if we'd be sold on going into the season with him starting at 3rd though.
I think our rotation is pretty well set: Wang, Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy, Mussina, with Kennedy getting bumped if Pettitte returns. We should concentrate on some bullpen arms though we have some in-house solutions possibly in Edwar Ramirez, Ross Ohlendorff or Jose Veras.

A-Rod Quotes:
Feb. 20: “I understand that I have an option. But I also understand that I want to be a New York Yankee.”
April 24: “I want to stay in New York, no matter what. … It’s just the greatest place to play.”
Sept. 26: “This feels like home. … I feel like anything but New York would feel kind of weird for me now."

Do you guys realize why everyone hates Johnny Damon now? Everyone from the '04 team gets standing ovations when they return to play the Red Sox.
Pretty sure he said something like "I would never play for the Yankees, even if they offer me more money"
Which is why I can't stand when people say "Why do you blame him for leaving? The Yankees offered more money"

No, I always understood why people hate Damon.

Johan Santana is really what most sports critics are thinking right now. With maybe a package deal with Torii Hunter. But we would have to give up alot for that.
Not a chance in hell we'd grab Mike Lowell. He may listen to offers and what not. But he'll stay put in Boston. We didn't get Wilson Betemit for nothing.

I don't know, Lowell said he would play for the Yankees earlier this year. I wouldn't count him out.
I don't know if it's been reported on here yet, but we are likely exercising Abreu's option for next year.

I definitely think Cashman will look towards Johan or Cabrera but I don't think he'll give up the pieces needed to get them. Hopefully he sticks to that too. You'd figure either one would start with Hughes or Joba, then Cano or Melky, etc...and I don't think it would be worth it. If you could get either for Kennedy, Tabata, etc...some type of deal like that then do it.
As for Lowell. I really don't want him for how much he would cost. You figure he'll cost 10-15 million a season for 3 years or something after the season he had and I don't think it'd be worth it. He is the perfect fit for Fenway and really resurrected his swing with that wall in left. Just looking at his home and away splits make me not want to spend that type of money for him. He is the ideal player for Boston and that park and probably wouldn't be as successful in Yankee Stadium.
He's obviously a good player and I'd want him on my team but not at the price he'll get and for what he'd be able to do away from Fenway Park. He is the most valuable to Boston and I'd assume they would pay him for that reason.

I doubt Boston would let Lowell get away, but he'd be great

I'm all for trying Betemit out, to be honest.
I wonder what's going to happen at 1st base. We've never had much faith in Andy Phillips, so he's out, I'd say. Mientkiewicz is good but you can't count on him for an entire season. I wonder if they'd try Matsui there or something, so Giambi could DH instead of rotting away on the bench.

It would be nice if Damon or Matsui could learn 1st base. Preferably Matsui seeing as how Damon is miles ahead of him defensively in left. I can also see Duncan getting more playing time. He could give us a little power from the right side seeing as how A-Rod leaving will leave a huge void in that area.

Yeah, I'd like it if Duncan got more playing time but I don't know if he's a starter. He's already 28 and just made it to the majors. He's got power but I don't know about anything else. He's fun to watch because he plays hard and is a big goof, but I don't know if Slam Duncan is the solution.

Dusty Baker is now officially the Reds manager as his contract with ESPN ended after the World Series and the first free agents he's going after.... Kerry Wood and Mark Prior...

1st baseman free agent market isn't all that great. We could probably resign Death Grip Doug again. Or place Wilson over there and find a 3rd baseman. But even that isn't a great market this year as well.
And there is also the possibility of looking for a catcher also.

yea, I really don't trust anybody's word anymore. I never believed A-Rod for a second with all that I love NY talk. It's something he had to say at the time to look good in front of the media. I'm sure Boras was in his ear all the time.

So what, players don't mean anything they say, they are doing it because they will get punished for saying anything outlandish

Joe Torre is going to manage the Dodgers next season. Mattingly will probably follow him there as bench coach.
Well, SammyG should be happy.

Definitely gonna be weird seeing Torre and Mattingly on the Dodgers. Definitely makes sense for Mattingly though considering his kid is coming up in their system.
LOL@ Torre pimp slapping the Yanks. Torre is easily the highest paid manager in the league next year if he goes to another team. You pump your chest and tell him he's fired if he dont win a series. Then he loses and you offer him a 1 year contract, just so you can be told to shove it up your ass. Thats awsome.
He'll probably be coaching the Dodgers next year. For alot of money. Cause he's Joe Torre. He's a pimp like that.

So ol' Joe Girardi took the job.
Here's another shocker. Gator Guidry might be on his way out cause he might be bringing in Mike Harkey with him.
In other news. Torii Hunter and Barry Bonds filed for free agency. The Astros resign Brad Ausmus for another year.
