I like Blade as well (he's way better in the comics than in the movies imho, cracks a joke from time to time and stuff) but I mostly read his solo books when they're a part of some crossover or something.

Why hasn't Dr. Mactaggert not aged from the First class movie to the closing credit scene in The Last Stamd?
Kalyx triaD
07-18-2015, 08:49 PM
Because they are different actresses.
Yes, but is First Class happened in the 60's, shouldn't Mactaggert be 50 or 60 years old in Last Stand?
Kalyx triaD

I see what you're asking, but think about what you're saying:
What would you have Fox do?
- Go back in time and recast her in Last Stand to be older?
Or
- Go back in time and recast her in First Class to be significantly younger?
I see what you're asking, it just seems silly to ask. Also consider the First Class trilogy to be a soft reboot to begin with.
So why isn't Banshee in the new one coming out?

Besides the "White Event" may have saved him.

So many iterations or every character running around on Battleworld right now (including it seems an army of cloned Summers) it is hard to know who we will get.
There was also an army of Wolverines (including some stupid things like Spider-Wolverine and Hulk-Wolverine) and an army of Beasts in this or last week's issues.
Once again, this event is plain ridiculous and confusing as fuck.

Not sure if this belongs here or in the hasn't-been-active-in-three-month Civil War thread, but Nerdist posted the rumored "sides" in the Civil War movie. They don't source anybody directly, so take this with a grain of salt.
TEAM STEVE
Hawkeye
Falcon
Scarlet Witch
Winter Soldier
Ant-Man
TEAM TONY
Vision
Spider-Man
Black Widow
War Machine
With Black Panther and Wakanda in general remaining neutral until something or other drags them into it.
Again, the article just says "according to a new rumor," so who knows how accurate this is, if at all. Seems at least slightly logical, as it means we'll see Clint vs. Nat and Wanda vs. Vision along with the obvious Steve vs. Tony which will lead to some shit down the line, I'm sure.
Anyway, discuss. Or tell me to move it to the other thread. Ball's in your court, y'all.

Word is they've shot a ton of shit with stuntmen in the Spidey suit. Parker will likely only be in a bit, but it sounds like the web slinger has a bigger part than we'd originally thought.
From the rumors it seems like Spiderman's role is a tad bigger than a cameo so he just might switch sides like he did in the comics.

Jane punisher was a great revenge movie, but not a great punisher movie, imo. Felt that war zone was a more accurate interpretation of the character.
I thought War Zone was great. It had stupid things like the character of Loony Bin Jim or whatever and the parkour guys (was this even around when parkour was popular?) but it made up for it with the brutal action scenes and overall atmosphere. I marked out when he killed this one parkour guy with a rocket launcher.

- For Phase 3 of the MCU Marvel will be doing three movies a year.
- They want two-way integration between MCU Film and MCU TV, not so much TV reacting to film as often.
- Casting news for Phase 3 coming soon.
- The MCU will NOT reboot after Infinity War, but it will deal with a different slate of heroes afterward. At least Chris Evans has made clear he'll be Cap as long as Marvel wants him, which would probably be forever.

If there were a place for Squirrel Girl to fit in, it would be DC, since they are wanting to take a comedy angle. It may not be a feature length movie, but an episode featuring her might be more satisfying than a short (and more likely) Marvel One-off.

http://deadline.com/2015/10/marvel-damage-control-tv-series-comedy-abc-1201566243/
Sometimes the most important super heroes are the ones behind the scene. Marvel Television is heading to the half-hour live-action comedy arena with Damage Control, a single-camera comedy project based on the Marvel Comics books, which has received a put pilot commitment from ABC.
Developed for TV by former Daily Show and Colbert Report executive producer Ben Karlin, Damage Control follows the overworked, underpaid, clean up crew of the Marvel Universe. Specializing in dealing with the aftermath of the unique fallout from superhero conflicts, they’re the ones who are in charge of returning lost ray guns to their rightful owners, help to reschedule a wedding venue after it has been vaporized in a superhero battle, or even track down a missing prize African parrot that’s been turned to stone or goo.
Introduced in 1988 and getting their first storyline the next year in Marvel Comics Presents, Damage Control has a recurring presence on the pages of Marvel Comics, and has been the subject of four limited series to date. Dwayne McDuffie and Ernie Colón created the concept. Notably, the outfit played a key role in the events of the 2006-2007 “Civil War” crossover, though they’re not featured in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, loosely based on that arc.
Karlin will write the script for the project, which he executive produces alongside 3 Arts’ David Miner and Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb. Marvel Television is producing with ABC Studios where the company is based. Karlin’s involvement in Damage Control stems from his overall deal with ABC Studios. Many writers on the studio roster are interested in developing Marvel properties, and the comic book-based company has been very selective in the concepts that proceed to development.
Marvel TV has two drama series on ABC, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, and a pilot for a S.H.I.E.L.D. offshoot toplined by Adrianne Palicki & Nick Blood. Additionally, the company has a four-series superhero package at Netflix.
Damage Control joins another superhero-themed half-hour comedy project, DC’s Powerless, which has a pilot production commitment at NBC.
Karlin, who won 9 Emmys for his work on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, recently served as writer-producer on ABC comedy Modern Family. He is repped by UTA and 3 Arts. Marvel Television is repped by CAA.
I give it 4 episodes. 5... maybe.

Elizabeth Olsen has a IDGAF moment in an interview and muses about a storyline she'd love to do, studio exclusivity be damned:
It has to be House of M. That’s still all I want to do, I don’t care. I would just love to have make-believe children and have him play along with it and then just decide to destroy all mutants. That would be so fun but obviously that would never happen.

http://movieweb.com/black-panther-movie-director-writer-script/
There has been a lot of talk over the past few months about potential directors for Marvel's highly-anticipated Black Panther, with Ava DuVernay (Selma) and F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) mentioned as possible candidates. While we don't seem to be any closer to finding a filmmaker to take the helm, The Wrap reports that Joe Robert Cole (American Crime Story) is nearing a deal to write the screenplay. The site also reports that Marvel doesn't intend to search for a director until after the screenplay has been completed.
We reported in August that F. Gary Gray was interested in directing Black Panther, shortly after Ava DuVernay backed out. It seems he won't be in contention either, though, since the filmmaker is now in talks to direct Fast & Furious 8, after being listed as one of the top four director candidates just yesterday. Since Fast & Furious 8 will take F. Gary Gray out of contention, the Black Panther director's race is now said to be "wide open."
Chadwick Boseman is set to star in Black Panther, but he will first make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which kicks off the studio's Phase Three slate when it hit theaters May 6, 2016. Black Panther currently has a July 6, 2018 release date, so the studio still has plenty of time to find the right filmmaker for this superhero adventure. It remains to be seen what other characters may be included in this stand alone adventure, but there have been clues laid out from previous MCU movies.
Very little is known about the Black Panther story, but the character's homeland of Wakanda has been teased before in the MCU. Captain America's practically-indestructible shield is made out of vibranium, a rare metal only found in Wakanda, and this summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron featured the debut of Ulysses Klaue, a character from the Marvel Comics who has been a longtime adversary of T'challa and his father, T'chaka. There have been rumors that T'chaka, the current ruler of Wakanda, will either die or pass along his throne to Chadwick Boseman's T'challa in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Joe Robert Cole is a product of Marvel's writer's program, which is also where Nicole Perlman developed her script for Guardians of the Galaxy. Joe Robert Cole was rumored to have worked on a draft of the studio's Inhumans' script, but he is no longer involved with that project, and if a draft was completed, it isn't expected to be used by the studio. He also wrote and directed the indie thriller Amber Lake, and is currently writing for FX's American Crime Story.
Black Panther comes to theaters July 6th, 2018.
Found it annoying that they meant CA: Civil War but kept referring to Winter Soldier. Amateur hour.
Ugh, Marvel.

I'm very behind with my comics, actually. I love all the movies, TV shows etc, but only loosely follow the comics today (and I'm quite behind too).
Been reading comics since 1993, problem is, it's just reached that point where it's repeating itself. Main characters keep dying and coming back, it gets to the point where nothing shocks me or interests me anymore. How many times can Professor X come back from the dead until you stop caring?
Everyone has betrayed everyone at this point. Everyone's been heel or face.
Nothing seems relevant any more. I'd pique my interest if a main character died and fucking stayed dead!

Heh, dunno where that little rant came from. Marvel's movies are doing so incredibly well right now, it just seems weird that all their comics lately seem to be getting so much criticism. Last story I was really into was Civil War. Man, that was awesome.
Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, Brand New Day etc and the others around that time were all good, but just seems like the last few years have been nothing but let-downs and confusion.

Fear Itself is about where I'm at now, actually. Again, just heard nothing but criticism for it, though. I do enjoy reading the comics, but it's so repetitive. I want someone important to die and stay dead. "Death of Wolverine" I read not long ago from the library. Is that canon? I mean, no doubt it's set "in the future" or whatever, coz Wolverine is too important to kill off for real.

It is canon, he's been dead for a while now.
But once Secret Wars ends there'll be an alternate universe Wolverine in the mainstream universe of course. It's gonna be Old Man Logan. I mean, he pretty much already transferred there. There's also a black British Punisher already (cause Frank Castle died not long ago).

I have fallen out big time with modern comic books.... with Marvel, I am way behind... probably also around Fear Itself time, but not read that. Just feel like... I dunno... reading stuff from a few years ago and having it all be already reversed/changed/retconned.... like what is the point.... and jumping to the current stuff seems like it would be just TOO MUCH change... like "Wait, what universe/timeline is he/she from?" and "Why is this character a different gender/race now?"
And as far as DC goes... The New 52 pretty much killed it for me.... which is such a freaking shame because I was always more of a hardcore DC guy anyways. If not for the New 52, I'd probably still keep up with it. I mean, I know there is stuff that I could still check out, like Batman stuff... but I just don't "feel it anymore".....

Marvel Studios has announced a series of updates for the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three on Marvel.com, including an "Ant-Man and the Wasp" film for July 6, 2018. In order to accommodate, "Captain Marvel" has been pushed back again to March 8, 2019 from November 2, 2018 and "Black Panther" has moved forward to February 16, 2018 from November 2, 2018. Additionally, three untitled projects were announced, with release dates of May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020 and November 6, 2020 respectively.
That's great news. I'm all for another Ant-Man movie and we'll get Black Panther sooner.

I was gonna say there's no way they'd give a solo movie to a female character, but since Captain Marvel's getting one I sure hope so.
They could make it about her time as an assasin. Superhero-free.

This would actually be perfect. The only issue is that Marvel is now under the Disney umbrella so I don't think there's much chance of them allowing one of their shows on a Cartoon Network owned animation block. I also don't think Disney would be cool with being associated with something on that level either. It's a shame too cause under the right writing staff and animators it could be something great like Rick and Morty, etc.

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!11!1!!!!!one!!!!!
http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/622803-fantastic-four-rights-back-at-marvel#/slide/1
In what may turn out to be the most predictable news of 2015, Den of Geek is reporting that the critical and box-office clobbering Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four movie took has spelled doom for the franchise at 20th Century Fox, and now the thing that has caused such a firestorm of controversy for them is finally going back where it belongs: Marvel Studios.
According to the site’s info, which has yet to be corroborated by official sources, rather than trying to integrate the much-loathed FF roster into their more successful X-Men universe, Fox is doubling down on the mutant biz by trading the Fantastic Four rights to the tarnished property (which also reportedly includes rights to key FF side characters like Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom and Galactus) to their Disney-owned rival in exchange for television rights to X-Men. This coincides with the recent announcements of pilots ordered for “Hellfire” and “Legion” at FOX, as well as the three mystery films Marvel just slated for release in 2020, one of which might very well be a Fantastic Four reboot.
While Marvel’s first family coming back into the fold sounds like a great idea, Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige and company have an uphill battle in terms of public perception of the property. If one counts the legendarily terrible unreleased Roger Corman production from 1994, this would mark the FOURTH big screen iteration of the characters, who also appeared in two critically-derided but financially-successful Fox movies in the mid-2000s directed by Tim Story. The 2015 film suffered from a decidedly dour tone, budget restrictions, creative meddling and studio-imposed (and highly-noticeable) reshoots that brought forth a film even its director publicly distanced himself from. It wound up only grossing $166 million worldwide, making it one of the biggest superhero bombs of all-time.
Like Spider-Man, who Marvel recently partnered with Sony to reintegrate into their cinematic universe, Feige already has contingency plans set up in case the Fantastic Four team is brought back to the MCU. Side characters like Galactus, Doctor Doom, The Silver Surfer and The Watcher played critical roles in the original “Infinity Gauntlet” comics stories of the ’90s and could very well be brought onto the board just in time for the two-part Avengers: Infinity War films that the Russo Brothers will direct.
As for now, with no official word from either Marvel or Fox, this may simply be overenthusiastic fan speculation, but food for thought for all the true believers out there.
I never cared for FF, but I'm glad Marvel gets them because of the villains.

That is, of course, if these rumours about them getting the FF rights back are even true.
Supposedly they're trading the rights to FF for rights to film TV shows in the X-Men universe (parkmania's post might be mentioning that, I just don't feel like reading).

Pretty cool if this is all legit. I'm happy to see the Fantastic Four in the MCU (although, we don't really need another origin movie), but Galactus or the Skrulls would make a great end-villain for Phase 4. Well, you'll be pleased to hear that JoBlo rumor was true: Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner and his slightly angrier alter ego in Thor: Ragnarok, which we recently found out would be directed by Taika Waititi (Eagle Vs Shark, What We Do In The Shadows).
Deadline just broke (well, confirmed) the news, though they don't mention any specific details or reveal how the Hulk will factor into the story - but Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth seem like they have good chemistry, and their characters' interactions have provided some memorable moments in the Avengers movies so this should work out well.
Also starring Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Anthony Hopkins, Thor: Ragnarok is currently being scripted by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle and is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 3, 2017.

Warpath was the younger brother of Thunderbird and the shared a similar moveset. Super strength, speed and I think limited flight. He was more or less a more powerful less racist version of his big brother.
I am looking forward to see what they do with RedWolf... they have a chance to tackle some issues with the character if they so desire.
Wyatt Wingfoot wasn't too bad of an Indian character as characters go
I would sooner they make new exciting non white characters rather than repackage old ones but since there has been no real success when doing that i suppose Marvel and Dc will have to work with what they got.
Dc's Milestone comics weren't bad but like many of the alternate lines the big two were publishing they got real stupid real fast.

All the universes collided, so Earth 616 and 1610 (Ultimate) were no longer, only Battleworld was left. All kinds/versions of different characters were there at once and it was just all a huge clusterfuck.
It's still going actually. This week Secret Wars 8 (out of 9) came out at the same time as new titles are already going strong. Like Uncanny Avengers issue 3. And you have no idea how this all happenned because Secret Wars hasn't even ended yet. It just hurts my brain.

Sounds like they wanna try and mix the best elements of both universes into one, focusing on the ones that are most recognizable to the general public.
For example... is Nick Fury still around? The original, white-skinned cigar smoking David Hasslehoff one? Feels like I haven't heard about him in forever coz black, Ultimate, Samuel L. Jackson Fury is pretty much THE Nick Fury now.
Original Fury is The Unseen One now, a replacement for The Watcher.
Check out the Original Sin crossover, that's where it happens.
And the dumbest thing about Furys was when they wanted to introduce the black version in the original universe and they ended up giving the original Fury a black son, who's also missing an eye.

I've only been reading comics for about 3 years now, but I probably have the same amount of knowledge now as the average person that'd been reading their whole life lol. I'm also the kind of person that tends to look too deeply between the lines and sometimes I read more into things than I think was actually intended. Not sure if that helps me to understand (or feel like I understand) the comics better or what.

I haven't read cyclops' death yet, but making him a villain was the most interesting he's been since well, forever. Or it could have been, if they would have handled it properly. That jail cell meeting between cyke and cap was cool, and hinted that cyclops would become a really great "grey area" type villain. If they would have gone full che guevarra mutant rebel leader with him, it could of worked great, but instead he was written the same as always, and all that potential was squandered. Going off what you said, it sounds like they took him way too far to the other extreme for his death, which is just as bad.

Yeah, but I mean when they killed her the last time.... which was over a decade ago...

Has she though?
I've never gotten this joke. Maybe I'm missing a few of her resurrections, but I don't think she's come back that often.
So she died after the dark phoenix saga, and then came back later in x-factor. Then she died again in X-factor. The phoenix force tried to ressurect her in endsong, but she stayed dead.
That's it. Unless you wanna be that guy and count Here Comes Tomorrow, but even then, thats only two resurrections. There have been tons of characters who have died and come back a hell of a lot more than Jean Grey.

I wonder which comic book character has the record for most deaths/resurrections...... (Resurrection Man disqualified)

Hmm, I actually haven't read the old issues where she died, but I remember seeing a list. Can't find it now, only one I found includes deahts like dying but having her mind transferred to Emma Frost. The one I remember didn't have this. And if I remember right, it said she really, really died 10+ times.

I'm looking at wikipedia and the ones I listed are the only ones I see. I don't count stuff like the mind transfer because she didn't actually die, and shit like that happens all the time in comics. If you count that stuff, you could easily pick a random character and make a long "death" list.
I don't count the mind transfer either, that's why I don't like this list.
Anyway, fetching a Jean Grey from the past is basically bringing her back in a way, same with the current Wolverine, only he's old as fuck now while Jean is younger.

Wasnt one of her resurrections actually madelyn pryor?

No Madelyn was a different character that just looked like Jean.

Wasnt it her clone?

Yeah, but it wasn't supposed to be when they created her. They needed a way to fix how much of an asshole they had written cyclops to be (i.e. abandoning madelyn and their son to hang out with recently returned jean) so they retconned her into a mr sinister clone.
She was originally meant to be a way to write cyclops out of the book. He was going to retire from the x-men and live happily ever after with madelyne.

Actually read through xfactor a while back, and for like 25 issues he doesn't contact madelyne at all. Whole time I'm just yelling in my head "CALL YOUR FUCKING WIFE YOU DICKHEAD". He didn't even have a reason beyond typical emo cyclops angst bullshit nonsense.
Was infuriating.

Bringing people back from the past totally counts as bringing a character back. It's just another shitty loophole.

So I just got caught up on Amazing Spider-Man and Invincible Iron Man. Gotta say they're both really good thus far. Also digging New Avengers and Ms. Marvel. Read the first issue of Guardians of the Galaxy's new run and really enjoyed it too. Felt like the new additions to the team really fit well. Marvel's batting pretty good so far for me. Only thing I read this past week that I didn't like was The Uncanny Inhumans. Fuck that confusing nonsense.
and there being like 5 different avengers teams ain't confusing?
i already forgot who's in new avengers, who's in uncanny, who's in the ultimates, etc.
iron man is good, spiderman going global is really weird and i don't like it
agreed on guardians, ben grimm and kitty pryde are pretty cool additions

Eh, it's a little confusing at times, yeah. But I'm only following two of them at the moment so the others are kinda "out of sight out of mind". New Avengers seemed like the most interesting to me so I'm focusing most of my effort on following them. Squirrel Girl, Hulkling, and Wiccan are all favorites of mine so it's nice to see them doing something interesting. I've read the first issue of the Avenger team with Captain American and Deadpool in it too. Was interesting, but I'm not sold yet. Might read another issue or two just to see if it's gonna get good before I make a decision about whether or not to follow it. Love Captain Marvel, but I'm really not interested in Ultimates.
Spider-Man going global does jar me a little, but his book still has that Spidey charm and humor I love so I'm able to look past that for the most part. Not sure I like the Spider-Mobile and Spider-Plane though... Also I somehow wasn't aware that Aunt May was married/worked for Parker industries now (despite having read most of Amazing Spider-Man straight through since Doc Octopus got kicked out of Pete's body) so that caught me way off guard.
aunt may being married isn't a surprise to me (she's married to jonah's father btw) as it happenned way before secret wars, they started dating even before doc ock's mind was transferred into parker's body.
and i dunno about spidey charm, he seems to be a total dick now and yeah, fuck his car and his plane

Read the first 3 issues of Secret Wars, and Sixx is right. I fucking hate it. It's just a hodge podge of too much shit going on with too many characters. Like Crisis on Infinite Earths times ten. Doesn't help that this story has been building in other titles for over a year.
On a brighter note, I read Frank Miller's Daredevil for the first time, and hot shit it deserves all the praise it gets. So damn good. Check it out, if you have marvel unlimited.

Got the Frank Miller Daredevil Omnibus out of the library a bit ago and read it for the first time. There was indeed some great stuff within it.

I think it looks stupid. 0/10. Marvel obviously doesn't know what they're doing. He looks ridiculous with all of those belts. And don't even get me STARTED on that weak facial hair.
one thing I can agree with is the facial hair. cumberbatch apparently can't grow it

According to "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo, they currently have 67 characters on tap for the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" film.
"We have so many characters we’re dealing with. We’re breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it," they revealed at Wizard World New Orleans.

I imagine more than 3/4 of that 67 will just be in the background of some gigantic fight scene. And that's if they all even make the final cut. Still this is gonna be pretty cool. Probably the biggest event in movie history as far as number of iconic characters on-screen goes.

Are there even 67 Marvel Characters...... especially if you eliminate the X-Men/X-Characters.......
Wishbone
01-11-2016, 11:46 PM
Yeah, there are hundreds of characters. Most are nobodies that only the most hardcore of Marvel fanboys would recognize, but there are more than enough of them. Hell, if they end up including any Inhumans they can probably bump that number up even higher.
Lock Jaw
01-12-2016, 12:23 AM
Actually, I guess, if you added all the characters from all the existing movie/tv shows and the supporting characters, you would probably already get close...
Kalyx triaD
01-12-2016, 04:02 PM
Yeah the only way to hit that number is counting all the majors, the supporting cast of each major's own movie series, all the TV/Netflix majors and supporting cast, and potentially whoever will be introduced in Infinity War itself.
Like LotR or X-Men DofP it's certain some characters will get the shaft and only a few will have big screen time. Still, this is sounding bigger than a comic book movie thing. We've never seen a multimedia shared universe converge like this.
