Quick question for people from New York. What's the breakdown in the New York Metropolitan area between Jets and Giants fans? Is it geographically divided, socioeconomically divided, or is it just kinda random?

Seems kinda random. I think there are probably more Giants fans than Jets fans though around where I am (NYC area). Like maybe 70-30 but that is just a blind guess.

I feel like a lot of times it coincides with baseball. Mets/Jets, Giants/Yankees. Not for everyone obviously. Lot of Yankees/Jets, Giants/Mets people on here.

Dunno, I guess it is just random. I used to just <3 both the Giants and Jets when I was little b/c I would always watch both games and had no reason to root against a NY team, then finally "just picked one" (Jets) because I always used them in Madden and they were the "underdog" NY team

Triple A

For the most part, you'll find more Jets fans in Long Island and more Giants fans in NYC/Jersey.

Yeah this is pretty accurate actually

Watched bits of last nights game and all I can say is WOW! That shit was amazing. Simply one of the wildest games I'd seen in a bit with all the late 4th quarter drama, reviews/challenges, etc. I was honestly thinking Atlanta would tie it up and send it to O.T. but props to New Orleans pulling out the victory.

Supreme Olajuwon

I don't hate the Saints. I find it hard to hate a team that's been to the playoffs twice in the last 16 seasons and has 3 winning seasons during that same time frame. Maybe Saints fan could tone it down a little bit but you can say that about almost every team.

Supreme Olajuwon
11-03-2009, 10:57 AM
For me to hate a team, they must meet 3 requirements: 1) Annoying players 2) Annoying fans 3) Team success

The Steelers are the only team that meets this IMO, but I could see an argument for the Patriots, Chargers, Ravens, Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles depending on how you feel about their players and fans.

Evil Vito
11-03-2009, 03:51 PM
I think annoying fans is the biggest determinant for me on whether or not I hate a team. I honestly don't know if I can pick who I hate more between the Eagles and Cowboys.

Cowboys have the biggest fanbase in the NFL because they had a '90s dynasty and are still labeled "America's Team", so that's annoying. But Philly fans are just scummy. This weekend when Osi Umenyiora got injured (fortunately it wound up only being a play) but he was writhing on the ground in pain initially...when they showed it on the big screen there was a massive cheer. Fuck them.

Evil Vito
11-03-2009, 03:53 PM
It'll never happen but could you imagine if the Colts and Saints both went into the Super Bowl at 18-0 (or really, any two teams any year for that matter).

Mercury Morris would be crying himself to sleep the night before.

Yeah but Osi was taunting the Eagles a couple plays earlier by flapping his "wings" after he took down their running back for a loss. I don't agree with cheering when someone gets hurt, but that one was probably egged on a lot by his actions.

I get where you're coming from though. Like Supremem mentioned the Chargers fit definately into that annoying team mold even without any real success and their mostly bandwagon fans.

Intrigue on the upcoming week odds:

Detroit + 10 vs Seattle - I know Detroit is bad, but Seattle is not good enough to be favored by 10 points against anyone.
Kansas City + 6.5 vs Jacksonville - KC coming off the bye and Jacksonville coming off getting rolled over by Tennessee.
San Diego + 4.5 vs NY Football Giants - if you believe the Giants are in a freefall..if the Cardinals could go into NY and beat the Giants I think the Chargers have a shot as well.

Chiefs + 6 1/2
Ravens - 3 1/2
Chargers + 4 1/2
Falcons - 10 1/2
Eagles - 3 1/2
Packers - 10 1/2

Other than the Ravens, I will put a curse on any team that ends up not covering if they are the only team that doesn't and ends up costing me 4 grand. They will never win another playoff game as long as Im alive.

And in reality, I should have saved the big money bet for next week but anyway..

Fucking huge game for the Colts tommorow. If they beat Houston as beat up as they are, they're the best team in the league hands down. Why? Cause they have depth. They've been the best defense in football with so many injuries. Our rookie DB's are playing like pro bowlers.

Go Colts! Lets do this shit!

Indy is gunna crush Houston today. I can feel it. This is gunna be one of those statement games from Manning and the boys. Everyone is picking against them. Everyone acts like this is Houstons time and i just dont see it. I see Manning just murdering this team while everyone in the country watches. Mark my words, after today, everyone will say Indy is the best in the league.

I also think the Saints will lose today. I think Carolina is gunna run it non stop. And they have a fantastic running game and when they run it, you see shit like that TD pass to Steve Smith where he faked a screen on Cromartie and Delhome pumped it and then layed it out 20 yards down the field for Smith with no one catching him. I truely think Carolina is better then people think and everyone just judges them by how bad Delhome is, but there running game is amazing.

VonErichLives
11-08-2009, 09:24 AM
Why do people think the Saints are better then the Colts?
Because the Saints have put up more points? Haven't we seen enough greatest shows on turf to know it's not all offense?

The Saints have a great offense but not a great D.

The Colts have a great D (although another injury or two and they could be in trouble).

The colts may not have put up the most points in the league, but does anyone really want to get in a shoot out with that offense?

I think the Colts can always put up more points if needed but I can't see the Saints playing shut-down D...

Oh and Pats>Colts... :P (yeah, just kidding... at least until we play this year and kick their butt in Indy!) :P

The reason everyone's picking against the colts is because they probably should have lost last week vs the 49ers and most people see Houston as a better team than the 49ers (which is debatable given Houston's inconsistencies).

As far as the Panthers, I predict of The Man will throw 3-4 interceptions, and the Saints should roll. The Panthers only wins are vs the Redskins and Bucs and the bad version of the Cardinals, and they even managed to lose to Buffalo...they aren't beating the Saints.

from ESPN.com

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris was ejected from Sunday's game against Arizona after just 65 seconds of play for slugging Cardinals offensive tackle Deuce Lutui.

At the end of an Arizona running play, Harris and Lutui ended up on the ground and a replay showed Harris hitting Lutui near the face.

The Bears got a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and Harris got a quick shower after referee Ed Hochuli announced he had slugged Lutui and was ejected

Wish I would have gone with those. 2 outta 3 anyway..Detroit almost made it 3/3.

Wow, the Lions are still so awful. Not that I'm shocked, but even a guy like myself who expects them to lose every week was a believer for a short while yesterday when they built a 17-0 lead in the 1st. Then Stafford goes the rest of the game throwing 5 INT's, all the while Seattle puts up 25 unanswered before Detroit gets a FG to bring it to 25-20, and then the 5th INT, with time winding down in the 4th, cost them any shot they had at winning as it was returned for a TD, making it 32-20 Seattle where the game concluded, Dropping Detroit to 1-7 this season.

That's is why I hate the majority Eagles fans. Especially the ones who try so hard to convince people how "hardcore" they are because they are dicks basically. I remember someone here one time using the fact that their old stadium had a holding cell in it as a reason why their fans are so "great". They try to related being huge douchebags with being great football fans. I have much more respect for fans that can support their team to death yet still show class. I don't know what it is about one teams fan base that just breeds that sort of people. Or maybe it's the other way around I guess.

And even Raiders fans are not nearly as bad. I love in Northern California about 45 minutes from Oakland and we always joke about getting shot if you go to Oakland wearing a Broncos jersey or something but it's more just a knock on Oakland being a "bad area". From everything I've seen, the fans dress up and paint their faces and all but for the most part, I really don't find them to be as much of a group of disrespectful assholes as I think the general consensus is of them.

Booth reviews aren't timeouts. After the booth review is over the game restarts where it left off. Like if the clock was supposed to keep running after the play was over, once the review is done, they start the clock running again.

Jesus Shuttlesworth

Well that's because it probably was a team challenge and not sent down from booth (that only happens in the final 2 minutes of the half or game). If a team loses a challenge they lose one of their time-outs

The Steelers were forced to take one of their time-outs in that situation, since the injury came with under 2 minutes (I think that's the limit) in the game.

Being from Philly, I can definitely attest to this. Your point, and the fact that this vast majority (not all of them) thinks their team is the best ever (because they only follow their team), makes Eagles fans pretty much intolerable.

But the majority of fans with whom I come in contact aren't necessarily these "hardcore" douchebags. Rather, they are uninformed (by choice) morons who refuse to accept criticism of their team from others.

Great way to describe them: Passionate, fickle and (this majority) uninformed.

I don't think it's clear cut at all. I don't even think it's a two person race. Manning and Brees have been great but you've got to include Roethlisberger as well. He's been really good against really good competition.

Favre and Peterson will cancel each other out, as will Palmer and Benson. And Chris Johnson won't get looked at because the Titans stink even though he's averaging almost 7 yards per carry. SEVEN

I think it's definitely a 2 person race. I think it comes down to wins and the two guys who have yet to lose a game win out.

If I had to pick right now, I'd say Manning over Brees just based on the fact that I think N.O. is more likely to still have a great record right now without Brees. Without Manning, Indy struggles. Hence, I think he's more valuable.

I just get tired of people "hating" on Bush.. He is a dynamic athlete who can RB, SLOT, WR, etc.. He gets bit on play action more than any of our other RB.. Also, this past game, he was actually hitting the holes and punching through.. I dunno, with 2 (actually 3 if you count Lynell Hailton) we have a great running game without him.. 2-3 big plays from him every game make him worth it to me.. Hardly ever get 2-3 "big plays" for Williams..

I have a feeling the world will know about Donald Brown after this week.

Not yet, but this season will definitely go down as a disappointment. Mentally he's just not there. And that's problematic because Cutler seems like a guy who let's stuff like this get to him.

I already apologized to Josh McDaniels. Get off my case, Kirk.

Just wondering

I actually hope you guys win on Sunday, it's good for the AFC North that they're competitive again and it'd be nice if they could break up the Patriots/Colts/Steelers monopoly in the AFC a bit.

Not saying that's gonna happen, obviously.

That Bear/49ers game really felt like a pre-season game. Not just because it was strange seeing a Thursday night game already either. Just did not feel like two teams playing to stay alive in the playoff race.

Yeah I dunno how it's gonna shake down. Pittsburgh wasn't that impressive in the first few weeks of the season but they are rolling now. As much as I'll be rooting for it to happen, I'm not sure the Bengals are going to be able to beat them at home. This is a bigger game for the Steelers though because they have to win this to even the tiebreaker. Even if the Bengals lose, they'd still be 4-1 in the division with Cleveland left to play. Pittsburgh still has Baltimore twice so who knows how that will end up.

Chad Johnson jokingly tried to give a ref $1 as a bribe during the Ravens game. He's getting fined $20,000 for it. LOL

Definitely hope so. I like the fact that they rested him up for this coming game. Think he's definitely gonna make some heads turn after he gets some more pro experience.

I said somewhere else immediately when I saw him do it that he should be fined. I dont think the NFL is in any position as of late to let that slide given all the problems with officiating in other sports, much less its own.

Its rather dumb however that he got fined more than everyone involved in that ATL/WAS scrum, but I guess that at least shows they wont tolerate it.

You know who might have a monster game for Indy against the Pats? Austin Collie. Everything i've read this week makes me believe that New England's absolute first priority seems to be shutting Dallas Clark down. This could be a huge mistake if they go overboard with there coverage on Clark.

Prediction : I predict you're gunna see atleast one play where Manning goes play action, pump fakes to Clark and his Collie wide open down the middle for a huge play. And i wouldnt be suprised to see it on the first series for the Colts.

This game inparticular reminds me of the Monday night game Indy had against Miami this year. First play of that game

I predict you'll watch the game alone with a bunch of beers then post a bunch of dumb shit after the game, especially if the Colts win. That's what I predict

If the Colts win tomorrow, I predict the Ravens will beat them next week in Baltimore. But if the Colts lose theres no way I see them losing 2 in a row.

What does watching the game alone with beers have to do anything?

I swear you have the most autistic insults ever.
