The first fumble, at the end of the first half was a botched handoff between Favre and AP.. The other FIVE were strips by our Defense..

Full credit to the Saints, they're there and that's all that matters. I'll admit I thought they'd cooled right off and would be fortunate to get one play off win. They're going to have to work their asses off the next two weeks to bring something special to Miami based on that performance though, I can't see the Colts being very worried at all right now.

They've shown that resting their starters helped, because they have been playing superb football in the playoffs. They are in the Super Bowl, and there isn't shit you can say about it, because they wouldn't have gotten here had other teams just played better.

If it was the first game, maybe your words would have some semblance of truth, but the Jets beat two teams in the playoffs to get to this point. I don't know, one day later, I think the Colts could really hurt the Saints in the Super Bowl. The fact that the Vikings forced overtime in a game in which they lost five turnovers is pretty telling. I'm not as familiar with the Colts defense, but the Vikings practically shut the Saints down the entire second half yesterday. Anything can happen, by my early prediction is:
Colts 70 - 30 Saints (percentage)

A few other notes:
1. In regards to two No. 1 seeds: It's fine to have the underdogs every once in a while, but I'd rather see the championship game be the best teams more often than not. I mean, it wasn't cool or exciting last year to see the Cardinals in the Super Bowl. They weren't that good, and it's not like they captivated the nation in any way (a la George Mason upsetting traditional powerhouses in NCAA Tournament)

2. Having the Pro Bowl after the Super Bowl is the dumbest thing ever, SammyG. I'm shocked they didn't think of this sooner. There is no NFL happenings going on next week, yet in the week before the Super Bowl there is still attention. The Pro Bowl is so stupid anyway, but you might as well put it at a time when people are still interested in football.

That's what I don't get. How can you say the Cardinals weren't that good? How can you argue with winning your division, winning 3 play off games, and being a couple of minutes away from winning the whole thing? They were a big surprise granted, but everyone knows the score. If the best team was the team that's #1 at the end of December then we woudn't bother with play offs or a Super Bowl.

BCWWF

Last year's Super Bowl was exciting, but the Cardinals were the sixth seed, if I recall. It's not like they had some underdog story where they were the little guys who beat the legends. They were a team that stumbled into the playoffs out of the weakest division in the NFC and then got hot.

Obviously it's all a matter of personal opinion, but the reason last night's game was exciting is because it was the bona-fide two best teams in the NFC who finally got to play each other. A Vikings-Cardinals game last night would have been stupid.

No it isn't. The Vikings and the Saints were the two standout teams in the NFC this season and they hadn't played yet. It's ridiculous to imply that there would be as much national attention or anticipation for the Cardinals. There's no bias involved.

Yes. It has been discussed several times already, but since you have not been here actively, I don't have a problem explaining it again.

I didn't used to like sports at all. In fact, I disliked them. After last season's Super Bowl though, football became interesting to me. Spent the off-season soaking in as much football as I could (NFL, not really 'big' on college football, but I root for Mizzou if they're playing) Decided I liked the Colts and wanted to root for them, because I liked their players and the team's style.

And now, I will forever be a fan.

Yeah, football is arguably America's favorite sport. The draw for these games is at least three times that of MLB and NBA playoff series. I guess you could argue 1 game versus 5 or 7 but still.

The difference between the two games last night was about 4 million viewers. The NFC game was also the prime time spot. So I think yeah, maybe you can attribute a couple million viewers to Favre, but in general, the NFL is just the most attractive sport to fans. I think that football has the best appeal to the casual sports fan. I know I've never personally gotten together with friends for a game of any other sport other than football. Maybe that's my personal experience though. In my area of New York, other than Yankee baseball there really isn't a huge sports fandom for teams other than the Giants or Jets.

What year was that from, Wadding? And also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked as if only one of that guy's feet hit the ground inside the end zone. By the time he had fallen out of bounds he hadn't touched both feet down inside the end zone, but it was 2003, before the advent of instant replay, I believe, and anyway, I believe the forceout rule was still in tact at that point (if you got one foot down in bounds, and the other would have landed in bounds had you not been shoved out of bounds by the defense, you were technically declared to still be in bounds)...it's just funny, how just shortly after that game (and probably because of that very play) they did away with that rule...

God you're an idiot Reavant. There was nothing gentlemanly about your comment. It was smug, and you and I both know you would have 'talked mad shit' had the Jets won. Well they didn't, so yeah I'm going to type 'multiple paragraphs' (that is a laughable and retarded comment in itself on your part.. HEY LOOK, I MADE YOU RESPOND FOUR TIMES TO MY POST.. OMG I MUST HAVE GOTTEN UNDER YOUR SKIN) and I am going to do just as much 'rubbing it in' due to the fact that you said that in the first place. It's give and take.. I'm going to give you shit, and you're going to take it.

Oh, and the shitty team you root for got stomped when it mattered. If the Jets were capable of beating the Colts (the entire Colts), it would have happened. It didn't though. Therefore, the incredible team I root for, beat the shitty team you root for, and is now going to the Super Bowl because of it. There is absolutely nothing you can say to redeem yourself right now.
whos the idiot? im a bills fan and everyone knows that... i hate the jets because of this and was pissed that they were in the playoffs but since they got to the point where they were playing the colts and you are a typical front runner fan, i wanted them to win this game.

Bears also had to deal with the fact their QB was Rex Grossman who owned the record for most positive QB rating and negative QB rating games in the same season. That Superbowl was also pretty competitive until Grossman started messing up late 3rd/early 4th quarter.

Although seeing Hester take back 1st kick off for the touchdown was amazing in how Colts were afraid to kick to him again for rest of the game and how it proved he was the best returner in the NFL.

Do you really think Zorn has worked with just Campbell?

Professional assistant coaching career (1997-2007)

Zorn moved up to the pro coaching ranks in 1997. Zorn joined the Seattle Seahawks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Seahawks) as quarterbacks coach after serving in the same capacity with the Detroit Lions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Lions) (1998-2000). He was instrumental in the development of rookie quarterback Charlie Batch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Batch) in 1998[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Zorn#cite_note-Washington_Redskins_bio-2). Batch’s 88.3 passer rating that season ranks as the fourth-highest rookie mark in NFL history. During his time in Seattle, Zorn worked with Seahawks Head Coach Mike Holmgren (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Holmgren) and Offensive Coordinator Gil Haskell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Haskell) in implementing the team’s offense while also furthering the development of the team’s quarterbacks[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Zorn#cite_note-Washington_Redskins_bio-2). In 2003, Zorn tutored Matt Hasselbeck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Hasselbeck) who set a franchise record with 3,841 passing yards in. Hasselbeck has become the franchise’s most-efficient passer (85.1 rating) while joining Zorn as the only Seahawks’ quarterback to pass for 3,000-plus yards in three consecutive seasons[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Zorn#cite_note-Washington_Redskins_bio-2).. In 2007 under Zorn, Hasselbeck set Seattle single-season marks for attempts (562), completions (352) and yards (3,966). He also threw for a career-high 28 touchdowns en route to his third Pro Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro_Bowl) selection[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Zorn#cite_note-Washington_Redskins_bio-2).

I'll have to catch the replay later, but Kurt has got to be my favorite player in the league. Such a great story, such a great guy and so much fun to watch on the field. My dad's always been a Ram's fan since he was young and seeing as Warner was such a big part of making them so good and Super Bowl champs he will always hold a special place to me and dad.

He was one of the parts of the season that kept me looking forward to the next game even as the Broncos have been mediocre at best the last few years. Even if they lost I could generally look and say hey at least Warner did good today (it helped he was always my fantasy qb in addition). So I'm definately gonna miss him.

Something that's been bothering me all week, I just haven't thought to post about it:

In the Vikings/Saints game, around the 2-minute warning in the first half. Saints punt, Vikings call for fair catch but muffs it. He gets the ball back under control and takes a knee. Saints defender comes in and lays him out, receiving a personal foul penalty.

Here's my issue: As soon as the returner doesn't make the clean catch, the ball is live, right? That would mean the fair catch is off, making the guy picking up the ball fair game, or at least I thought.

Why was the penalty still enforced? Am I wrong somewhere?

Supreme Olajuwon

Statistically he had a better year than 08 in almost every category despite having crappy receivers, and set two franchise records for comp % and QB rating which isn't too hard considering the best QB the Ravens ever had was probably Vinny Testeverde, but still..

08/09
Yards 2,971/3,613
TD 14/21
INT 12/12
QB Rating 80.3/88.9
% 60/63.1
Fumbles 11/8

The only two places he regressed were in rushing (though he was troubled with numerous ailments to his leg, feet and hip the 2nd half of the season) and sacks (took 4 more sacks 36 to 32) but for less total yards lost (276 to 218)

Sort of surprised Andre Rison and Cris Carter didn't make it since last year both were close to the Hall vote requirement but even if both managed to make it, they would have been overshadowed by Rice and Smith easily.

Nice selection this year for the Hall though since its a good mix of quality defense and offense players. That ending goalline sequence just gives more credit to the theory of Peyton Manning being the Head Coach of the Colts. Why wouldn't you call a time out before 4th down? The run might have been the wrong call on 3rd down, but it was made even worse by not calling a time out.

Any other Head Coach in that situation calls a time out. Either if they score they probably don't win anyway.

Little thing to let people here know about.

The Super Bowl commercials, the biggest ad debuts of the year, regardless of content, are blanket Banned in Canada. Why? When it comes to advertising dollars in the biggest U.S. TV shows, Super Bowl included, no Canadian TV station is allowed to air them, and that all advertising dollars for that big game in Canada are NOT allowed to 'go across the border', as in a Canadian advertisers monopoly over the game.

This means that, as far as the Canadian Radio, Television, and TeleCommunications Commission(CRTC), the Canadian Advertising Industry, and CTV or any other channel up here that airs the Super Bowl, the Border for advertising money is Permanently Closed and walled up.

http://www.nfl.com/stats/weeklyleaders

As for your question. There is nothing to answer. As I said in the first post, that you instantly took out of context, the Saints made more KEY plays. Do you know what KEY means? They made more IMPORTANT plays. I didn't say the yardage mattered, which is why I clarified again by saying 'if it did, the Colts would have won'. I said statistically, the Colts played better. And they did. But when it mattered, the Saints played better, and it won them the game.

What is so hard to grasp about that that you feel the need to argue about it?

This is what's funny. I had to ask you to answer these things, and you still haven't.

What in this link is supposed to be relevant? Makes no sense. The Colts did not play better statistically, or in any facet. They got smoked after a strong first quarter.

The other thing, you complain about me instead of addressing whats at hand. You claim I've twisted your words, but I haven't at all.

You came in with a lame response about how the Colts played better statistically. I asked you to explain this, and stated my case for why they didn't.
No twisting present here.

You then claimed you didn't make any excuses. Since when is posting a congratulations, with a "we played better" comment attached to it not a bullshit excuse?

No twisting. You just would rather complain about my motives than actually debunk the argument. You're backtracking for contradicting yourself, by claiming that I'm "transparent" and "twisting your words."

OK but again, those stats are somewhat skewed by what basically amounted to those last two "free drives" for the Colts. Most of the players were driven up from them. Had the Saints had to (didn't because of pick 6) or bothered to (didn't due to kneeling) respond with a drive, those categories would've been more balanced or possibly have gone the other way

It's not an observation. It's a bullshit lie. The team got outscored 34-7 from the first quarter on. Brees didn't have as many yards, but he played far better statistically in every other facet.

Look at redzone numbers, and conversions. How about kicking? Does that even matter to you?

You stated they played better statistically, and they didn't.

Then you claimed you took the high road and came in here to congratulate The Saints, and didn't make any excuses.
That's bullshit too. You tried to throw in that "your team" played better, but didn't win. That's a bullshit excuse, shrouded in a congratulations.

I called you on both. You didn't, and still haven't debunked either. You can't because they are both factual.
