LOL BRUCE GRADKOWSKI
San Diego and Denver's schedule looks like they will both have at least 10 wins. That will likely be 1 WC slot. Jacksonville currently holds the other AFC WC spot at 7-5 but they still play Miami, Colts, Patriots and a last week layup with the Browns.
Meanwhile if Green Bay beats Baltimore on Monday Night it would leave Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Miami and the JETS at 6-6.
5 teams for the last spot, should be pritty exciting. Now if the Titans and Texans would have won today it would really be wild but whatever. Plus this is only the AFC. I love the stretch run in the NFL

12-06-2009, 05:03 PM
Can't place all the blame on the Skins kicker. I mean, yea he missed the FG but there were numerous other mistakes made by the Skins that equally cost them the game. I hate it when everyone wants to blame the entire loss on one play like that. The offense is just as much at fault for not being able to score a TD on that drive. Or their free safety for totally botching deep coverage numerous times and giving up big plays.
McLegend
12-06-2009, 05:06 PM
Sure G.O.A.T can stand for the Greatest Of All Time.

yes it was, and it was a horrible call.
The announcer even paused the replay and circled his arm touching the ground. It was a perfect shot, with the player's chest facing the camera so you could perfectly see the ball in his arms. Like, there shouldn't have even been a doubt about it with that camera angle. His wrist, and then entire forearm was down before the ball became loose. I even have DVR, and fucking PAUSED it to look at it.
I mean come on.. there's nothing to 'calm down' about. It was a blatantly horrible call by the refs.

Kris P Lettus
12-06-2009, 05:45 PM
It was a call regardless.. There are bad calls in every game.. Fuck sake, if you want to nit pick, the offensive pass interference call on Shockey, that halted that drive, had a blatant no call on a facemask call on the defender..

Requiem
12-06-2009, 05:48 PM
Yeah but come on.. it is overtime in a game that is going to decide if a team remains undefeated 13 weeks into the season. And it was a play that was DELIBERATED on.
Like, it's not like it was something that just happened quickly and nobody noticed and things kept going.. it's something that they stopped the game for, LOOKED AT, and then decided to overturn, even though the call on the field was that he was down even before that.

12-06-2009, 06:43 PM
as a Ravens fan, I am conflicted about that game based on the fact that if the Dolphins win, it knocks the Jags out from ahead of the Ravens in the Wild Card but it puts the Dolphins right there instead. Jacksonville has Indy and NE after so maybe I should root Jags to get rid of the Dolphins..

I disagree with this. 3 points win the game since the Saints the had no timeouts left.
They should have ran more to the middle to get the ball in the middle of the field for an easier kick. Still though an NFL kicker should make a 19 yard field goal.

I think its a combination of Bellicheck expecting too much out of Tom Brady when the focus should be to protect him as much as possible if it means less passes and the defense needs to be worked on better since it has youth at key spots. No clue where the sudden lack of adjustments after certain halftimes is coming from since its unusual of him to be doing that this much like this year.

Pats just need to get into the playoffs and see what happens. As bad as they have looked recently you never know, the NFL is pretty crazy. The joys of football. You never know when a 6 seed could win the whole thing, or a team that is highly favored could take it. One thing is certain, I never thought I'd see the Bengals going to the playoffs.

Yeah ESPN has the stat that in the last 19 years, Bengals have only had 2 winning seasons (8-8 not counted). Last time they had a winning season, Palmer got injured by the Steelers in the playoffs and took until this year to get back to 2005-level.

I agree with you, his arm looked down to me, and from the angle I saw on the int-fumble-td play before halftime he didn't seem to have possession of the int, but honestly the Skins deserved to lose after they botched the 2 minute warning like they did. Why not wait for the clock stop at 2:00 then run the ball on 3rd down (instead of snapping it at 2:03 and having the clock stop for 4th down), NO had no more timeouts, so they could of killed close to a minute even if they missed the fg. Giving Drew Brees nearly 2 minutes to go the length of the field is basically asking to lose.

The moment Jeff Reed stepped on the field to try the 53-yard field goal, I KNEW the Steelers were going to lose. The announcers said something about "Against a good team, you'd never try this, but against the Raiders, why not?" And I yelled "Because when Reed misses, the Raiders get their best field position and feel like they might just have a chance!"
Tomlin seriously thought Reed could make a 53-yarder into the open end of the stadium when the longest ever made at Heinz Field is a 50-yarder twice to the closed end, and Reed hasn't made a FG this year longer than 46. WTMF???

That happens a lot in the NFL though. A team wins and either doesn't make the playoffs, or doesn't go far the next year. Eitherw way, I'm happy for Cincy getting the job done and adding some new blood to the playoffs this year.

I think both teams should go for it. Any 14-2 team can win the Super Bowl. It takes a real team to go 16-0 and also win the Super Bowl.

The rest of the team didn't step up with Troy out, and other teams took advantage of that.
I love how Steelers fans use that as an excuse for playing so poorly. Yes Troy is a very good player, but he is not the only player on defense. There are still eleven guys out there to stop their opponents.
Every week it's something different. "Oh, we lost because Troy wasn't there." Or, "We lost because someone screwed up somewhere."
And my favorite: "(insert team) didn't win that game, the Steelers lost it." Fuck off with that shit. Just admit your team got outplayed by the better opponent that day and move on with it.
parkmania
12-11-2009, 01:11 PM
Screech, the Steeler fans are used to winning. It's ingrained in the culture. When their team doesn't, they do look to figure out just what went wrong because they don't accept failure very well.
You're right: Polamalu is not the only player on defense, but his mere presence (or absence) on the field makes teams play differently. And the guys taking his spot haven't stepped it up.
The main problem with the Steelers though is the coverage team on punts/kickoffs. That should be obvious to everyone. It's been the same for the last 10 years or so, despite the change in head coaches. Pittsburgh won their last two Super Bowls in spite of it. The secondary problem is that Ben is trying to do WAY too much on his own, taking bad sacks in the process.
As far as being "outplayed by the better opponent", I can accept the "outplayed" part, but the "better opponent" part is not as cut and dried as you would try to make it.
screech
12-11-2009, 04:04 PM
I understand the "culture of winning," but it always comes off as arrogance. Can't believe I'm going to compliment them, but at least Yankees fans can admit defeat.
I know Troy's absence makes teams play differently, because I've watched it. Opponents have taken advantage of him not being there and the guy in his place not stepping to the plate.
How is the "better opponent on a particular day" (big qualifier) not so cut and dry? Last night, the Browns were the better team. Last week, the Raiders were the better team. The Steelers have lost their last five games because, in each, their opponent was the better team.
I'm not saying to accept that they lost to the "better team overall," because the Browns and Raiders respectively are not. I'm saying that Steelers fans could be a little more open-minded (i.e. good sports) when it comes to their team (specifically playing poorly, but on the other side too).
Blaming a player or official or whole unit is ridiculous. If one player makes a mistake, there are ten others who should step up for it. If an official happens to make a mistake, well the team should score enough so calls don't cost games. If a whole unit "shuts down" (like Special Teams) the Offense and the Defense should make up for that.
I live with Steelers fans and every week they lose I hear excuses. It's never "We got beat by the better team today," which is the best thing to say after a loss (if sportsmanship is important, which it should be to any fan). "They didn't beat us, we lost that game" is one of the most ridiculous statements anyone can make.

We (yes I'm a Steeler fan, as well as a Jag and Redskin fan) lost, but solely because we played like shit. If your o-line can't protect the blitz, then you need to just not even be out there. 8 sacks? Really? That's just disgusting guys. It's not that the Steelers played bad, it's just that the Browns outplayed them in every aspect of the game and I applaud them for that. Their defense was stellar, and their offense did what it had to do to win. Kudos to you Clevland for beating us. Maybe next year is all us Steeler fans can say now.
