Also, did a little digging and found out that the Broncos/Raiders game was delayed about 10 minutes because some fans (I presume raiders fans) were pointing lasers at the Broncos offense.

I had two players on IR list, so I had to play Steve Smith who I haven't really played this year :-\. Need him, or Double Trouble to pull in a combined about 28 points. It's do-able, but Carolina makes my nervous... always. I love my Panthers, they just can't put it together this year.

God dammit, Denver!

Oakland? Really? And Russell wasn't even starting today!

What happened between Week 7 and now?

Better teams played a part in the difference, but its mainly that teams now have tape of what McD likes to do. They had nothing before since he's a rookie HC, but after 7 weeks they had more than enough to figure out his incredibly simple offense (Moreno run, pass to Marshall, shitty run play, punt). Denvers O is awesome when they don't use that tired ass formula, but sadly, more often than not they do

Also, we would lose to Oakland the week that pretty much ALL the other Wildcard contenders lost :-\

Kareem McKenzie and Corey Webster both out...fuck. Aaron Ross might miss another game as well.

If the Giants win out and the Cowboys OR Packers lose one game, the Giants hold the tie-breaker over both. That's pretty much the only positive.

I love the Kansas City Chiefs, even though they are suckin bad this year. As far as this year goes, I am a huge Peyton Manning and Brett Favre fan, always have been, so if the Colts or the Vikings win the Super Bowl this year, I will be happy. 2 of the best quarterbacks ever, all heart and class acts all the way.

Does it have to be Cowboys OR Packers? Not both? I'm not sure what the 3-way tie-breaker is but I think head to head gets thrown out. Would be pretty funny if NY needed Dallas to win and stay a game ahead of them in the last week to prevent a 3 way tie and let NY get in over GB via head to head tiebreaker. If that's the case, The Giants sweeping Dallas could actually cost them a playoff spot which would be insane.

Giants hold all possible tie-breakers.

-vs. Cowboys: head-to-head record obviously
-vs. Packers: Giants already are guaranteed the better record in common games
-3 way tie: Division ties get broken first, which again knocks out Dallas and leaves the Giants and Packers...Giants would then get the 5 seed based on better record against common opponents

#1-norm-fan
12-21-2009, 06:33 PM
Nevermind. Just looked it up. It wouldn't work like that. You would need to tie with Dallas though. You don't hold the tie-breaker over Green Bay. After head to head (Giants haven't played GB) it goes to conference record. GB is 7-3, you're 5-4.

#1-norm-fan

Common opponents is the 3rd tie-breaker. Conference record is 2nd.

Yeah but if the Giants and Packers are tied in the standings, they'd automatically be tied in conference record at either 7-5 or 8-4. Forgot to mention that...THEN the Giants get the common games.

#1-norm-fan
12-21-2009, 06:39 PM
Nevermind again. I guess if the Giants won out, they would tie in Conference record anyway. I was projecting it as if they only play 10 conference games for some reason.

Yeah. Still quite an uphill battle though, I definitely think the Cowboys or Packers will lose a game at some point...but Week 17 will almost assuredly mean something for Minnesota. Gotta hope Favre continues to crumble.

A lot of Giants fans actually think making the playoffs would just cost them a higher pick because they all assume they'll get knocked out in the first round. While I understand that, since their defense has shown no signs of improving...2007 has taught me that anything is possible. :o

12-21-2009, 08:17 PM
Don't understand how guys like Folk can be so bad and miss so many FGs in a season. Like, that's all you get paid to do. You kick a ball. I get the miss every once in a while, or missing a really long one. Can't always be on your game or hit the ball exactly right. But when that's all you do, and all you're supposed to do, how do you fuck that up so much? And how do you fuck up such a SHORT field goal?

They showed clips of Folk in practice and he was missing kicks like crazy. Like come on.. pressure's not even on man. Don't care about Dallas at all really, but he deserved to be let go.

What was bad for him and Dallas wasn't so much he was missing badly during the pregame but how much wobbling the ball was moving in the air when they were inside a dome with no wind. The way the ball was moving was like he was kicking in a stadium like Green Bay or Giants/Jets stadium in middle of winter with snow/wind swirls.

LOL at Jim Zorn explaining why after the timeout he decided to run the trick play again. His reasoning was he thought the play was too unique for the Giants to ruin it even though they saw the formation before calling the timeout.

He seriously had a smile on his face while explaining it like it was one of the best things he ever thought up.

ESPN/Sports Nation always favors the recent plays over older plays. Same thing happened with best "storyline"/finish to a game and the Penguins-Red Wings 2009 NHL Finals took 2nd place due to fan voting.

Hated how the Steelers-Cardinals game ended with the refs not even bothering to give a flag in Harrison's push/punch of a player and review of the fumble/INT by Warner. Good game up until those moments.

Hated how the Steelers-Cardinals game ended with the refs not even bothering to... review the fumble/INT by Warner. Good game up until those moments.

Tired of this arguement. Ed Ferarra, the head of officials, stated in an interview on NFL Network that the review booth had a chance to look at a replay of this during the Cards timeout and decided that it wasn't close enough to even warrant a review by the on-field officials.

And even if it was, then where was the review in the first half when Ben's hand was coming forward but was called a fumble?

I hope they make some changes in the offseason. They need to get rid of the dead weight on the roster and shake up the coordinator positions.

Broncos gotta win out these last 2 games.

Not really, wins by IND(NYJ), NE(JAC), BAL (@PIT) in week 16 will allow Denver in as the 6th seed with EITHER a win over Philly or KC. There are a few others for the 6th seed and even the 5th seed, but this one is the easiest.

There's also a way in for Denver at 8-8, which is losses by JAC(NE), NYJ(IND), MIA(HOU) in week 16. And for week 17 we'd need losses by JAC(@CLE) and HOU(NE). We'd also we'd losses in either week by PIT(BAL, @MIA) and NYJ(@IND, CIN)

While I can never actually root for the Cowboys, I wouldn't be sad at all if they won tonight and officially ended the Giants' season. They would clearly be a one-and-done team and just screw themselves out of a higher draft selection if they somehow got in anyway.

Sheridan and Gilbride both HAVE to be gone next year. I kinda have a feeling Gilbride is gonna wind up staying though and they'll use Eli's career year as justification despite the fact that a shitload of his yards came in games where the Giants were routed and the opposing D started coasting.

Three games...Arizona, San Diego, and Philly 2 weeks ago. All three of those games were lost on a couple of mistakes/bad calls/whatever and they should have all easily been wins. They win those, and they are already locked into the playoffs. As such, they are gonna probably finish at 8-8 and have a lot of work to do, mainly on the defensive side of the ball. The offense has the necessary talent, just shitty playcalling.

Heros Welcome

After turning down chances to return to the NFL in previous offseasons, former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher is primed to get back in the game this time.

Those who know Cowher firmly believe that he plans to coach in 2010, according to two league sources. He is laying the groundwork, making calls to piece together a coaching staff and acting like a man who will be patrolling the sidelines once again next season.

Many around the league have expected Cowher's name to surface in connection to the Carolina job, and it might. But others also believe that a more likely landing spot might be the Panthers' division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Over the past year, Tampa Bay has undergone more changes than any NFL team. More are coming. At the very least, associate head coach/special teams coach Rich Bisaccia is expected to leave the staff. He's widely considered to be on his way to join the University of Tennessee coaching staff, but could also get looks as a college head coach.

Defensive line coach Robert Nunn and defensive backs coach Joe Baker were part of the Jim Bates package, and will not return.

And now there is an increasing sentiment within the Buccaneers' organization that head coach Raheem Morris will be one-and-done. Two weeks ago, CBS announcer Rich Gannon criticized the way Buccaneers' practices are run, the latest example of the job being too big for Morris right now.

If the Buccaneers decide to part ways with Morris as well, multiple people around the league think Tampa Bay will wind up making a run at Cowher.

League sources labeled as erroneous any speculation that the Glazer family, which owns the Bucs, may be too financially strapped to pursue Cowher. One source added that Joel Glazer, one of the team's owners, recently has expressed strong admiration for Cowher to other owners.

Additionally, those who know the Glazer family noted that they are always prepared to do the dramatic, citing the firing of Tony Dungy and the acquisition of then-Raiders coach Jon Gruden, Dungy's successor, in which the Bucs sent multiple draft picks, including two first-rounders, and $8 million cash to Oakland.

And it's pretty much a lock it'll be Cowboys/Eagles and Packers/Cards.

Should be interesting to see what happens in the Philly/Dallas game next week . If the cowboys win that means they will sweep the Eagles and will have to beat them yet AGAIN. Kinda hard to see them beating the Eagles 3 straight in a season:-\.

But if they lose then they go into hostile Philly for the playoff game.Damn gonna be tough:|. All assuming they beat the Skins today of course.

12-27-2009, 09:42 PM
@Assman - I have said a few times this season that I just got into football.

I always hated sports, but after watching the tail end of last season I started to get into it. Don't consider myself a 'bandwagon jumper' because I did not just suddenly decide mid-season that I liked the Colts. It was a conscious decision before the pre-season even started.

DS and I made the decision to look at some football teams we might be interested in following based on their players and what we liked about them. My experience with football has pretty much been restricted to Super Bowls and random highlights here and there, so I really didn't know much about it at the time, or anything about records or stats.

The Colts were one of the few teams he and I both agreed we liked and would enjoy watching. We liked their players, the way they played, and figured that with them getting a new coach this season it would be a good time to start following them. It just so happened that our decision was solidified by an amazing performance this season.

El Fregadero was the Jaguars fan. He was from Jacksonville. That was actually the main reason for my disliking of the Jaguars. More or less 'rivalry' between friends.

Pretty much became obsessed with football building up to the start of the season, to where I was always reading about it. Now I can't get enough.

Really "Have to start somewhere", and I would still be a Colts fan even if they had not done so spectacular this season. Don't consider myself a bandwagon jumper because I am not someone who only liked the Colts because they didn't lose, and I will not suddenly stop being a Colts fan if they do bad. If they go one and done in the playoffs, I will be pretty disappointed, but I will be here cheering for them next season all the same.

Requiem

Like, my family has never been into football, and my dad has never really followed a team. He pretty much just roots for whatever team he thinks should win in whatever game is going on. My friends are mostly Chiefs fans, and I just never felt like I had to pick a team based on where I lived, or whatever.

Wow... yeah, me and RP agreeing, how rare...

I don't blame Caldwell, I think this came from Polian, because this has been team policy when Dungy coached... Did they year the won it all, the only year they didn't rest players? haven't they been upset everytime they rest players?

I'm ok with taking Manning out, but not then... 1 more drive, score a TD, be up 12pts and run off the clock a bit more...

Also, leave in your defense...

ugh... I'm not a Colts fan, but anything to shut up mercury morris.

I still think the Colts are the "team to beat" but I really think both leagues are a lot closer then I thought... I really thought the Saints were the team, but the Cowboys made their OL look like swiss cheese....

Pats looked great today, with a lot defensive injuries but against a team that isn't that good.

Positives they shut down one of the best RB in the league. Brady looked liked the 2007 Brady... the duck move under a defender was great.

Seeing Morris and Taylor run the ball was good, gives up 3 RB (if Maroney can hold onto the ball).

Because the Saints have clearly demonstrated one of the best teams in the league, so there's no way to call them an underdog.

Dude... they were up 5, they should have stayed in, it's a shot at history, only 2 teams have had a undefeated regular season, only 1 team 16-0, only 1 team undefeated full season.

They had a shot to be the only un defeated 19-0 team.

They should have left Manning in. Comparing the drop off at any other position to Manning is just silly.

wtf, why are you arguing with me? talk to Jim Caldwell about that. my only point was the Colts had Manning for 2 and a half quarters and could of easily put the Jets away in that time

"@il duce" I just never understood "I don't have a team, so I'll just pick one that seems cool" mentality. I live right outside of DC and I root for the Giants, but that is just because my dad grew up in New York and rooted for them and that is how I was raised. Same for baseball with the Mets. But when I started getting into hockey and the NBA I just rooted for Washington teams because it's not like I was "raised" on those sports and I had no predisposition to like any particular team. It just makes sense to root for the home team because you can watch the games and go to them and stuff. It sucks rooting for out of town teams because they are never on TV.

Ignoring all the injuries the Colts have had coming into the game (and the fact Freeney came back for this game), Jets were holding the Colts to just 15 points by the time Manning got taken out. Can't really blame the backup for the 1st turnover since the O-Line did nothing and let the free defender get the blindside hit to cause a turnover.

After that Colts basically fell apart and didn't adjust. They could have went to a run game to put less pressure on their backup QB but refused.

The 106yd return happened, and Manning responded with a TD. A much needed 2-point conversion failed, and then Manning was taken out of the game.

Painter started by immediately getting shut down. Colts D stopped the Jets on their next attempt. Painter starts off the next series by fumbling and giving up a TD.

The game turned around so quickly that it didn't really matter what happened before. Perhaps if Manning had played the next series, a score might have happened. But what's to say Painter wouldn't have choked all the same in the 4th?

Manning, Wayne, Clark, and Addai were benched. But really, you can't bench them and not Manning, because the line might fall apart without good weapons to turn to, and then Manning might get injured.

The Colts lose next week to Buffalo (HA HA) and ride a 2 game losing streak into the playoffs just like the Saints who will likely be riding a 3 game losing streak after losing to Carolina. Both teams will be 1 and out in the 2nd round of the playoffs. BOOK IT

If Baltimore can't make it somehow, I like SD/Philly SB

Why is "I'll pick a team that I think I will like" any worse than picking a team that you don't know anything about or care about just because they are local? Seems like a dumb reason to like a team, because it doesn't have anything to do with the team itself.

I get rooting for a team because that's what your dad cheered for or whatever when you were growing up. That is just getting started when you are young, and following the same team your whole life.

I have never rooted for a team though. Everyone around here is a Chiefs fan, and I did not want to follow a team based on the fact that they are my 'state' team or whatever. That's cool if that's what you want to do, but I don't base my sports loyalty on where I live, especially when I'm not from here and don't plan on being here my whole life.

Indianapolis isn't that much farther than KC anyways from here. Twice the drive, but still only a 1 day trip. If I am really going to go to a football game, then I don't mind driving an extra 3-4 hours to see a team I -want- to see rather than a team that's "close".

Its the proverbial "you can't flip a switch and turn it off an on just like that" deal. The Saints especially since I really can see them losing to the Panthers..no way they can ride a 3 game losing streak into the playoffs and win their first game off the bye. They'll get beat by whoever wins the WC round matchup which will likely have way more momentum going into that game. The Colts will likely be in the same situation, especially if they find some way to lose to Buffalo...and I mean, whats the point of playing any starters vs Buffalo now...Indy Backups could very well lose to Buffalo..

It's not just blindly picking a team based on location though. You root for them because it's most logical. You will see their games, you will get their news, you will be able to buy their merchandise, and other people will be talking about them. I get that if you weren't into sports and started hating the local team because all the fans were huge dickheads about them but you don't really seem to have a problem with your local team.

I dunno. It's not like I "plan" on being in DC my whole life, not that I would really have a problem with it but it would legitimately be hard for me to leave behind the sports teams here that I love. It's sorta like I feel a "bond" with everyone around here who loves the Caps. Part of that is because they are awesome right now and if they start sucking people will stop caring about them because DC is not a hockey "town," but it feels good to be surrounded by fans of the same team.

Yeah, see that doesn't bother me. I see the Colts play on the NFL Redzone channel, and on ESPN when they play monday nights, or on regular channels when they're on Sunday night games. I am online way more than I watch TV, so I get plenty of news and RSS feeds about the Colts. And I do 99% of my shopping online, so I can get Colts gear whenever I want.

If I had been a KC fan growing up around other KC fans, I'd probably have the same outlook on things, so I get what you are saying for sure. I don't hate KC by any means, but I certainly don't like their team or feel 'connected' to other Chiefs fans. DS being a fan of the Colts with me is enough for me.

Yeah. I knew the Colts were a consistently good team, seeing as I knew who Peyton Manning was. But I honestly had no idea they were this good.

But, I really like the class they have as a team. They are confident, but not cocky. The players are talented, but don't seem to brag. That's just what I like now that I have watched them play for the season. I know the playoffs still have to come, and that's what really matters, but I really like the overall quality of the team.

Sounds more like they are trying to find a scapegoat or scapegoats for why they struggled or were inconsistent this year without blaming the coach or QB/star player that other teams would have done.

Better fucking not cut him, that'll make my other Giants jersey 'out of date' too

I think the issue lies more with coaching than anything else. Sheridan is definitely not Spags and that is evident. I know that the Giants have had a few key injuries on defense, but overall the personnel has largely been the same as last year and Sheridan hasn't gotten it done. Remember the story out of training camp that Osi and Sheridan got into it? Who knows what else has gone on behind the scenes with that situation, and if the coaches perceive Osi as half-assing his level of play?

To be honest, I don't want to see Osi get cut, but if he does get cut I think the Giants are fine defensively. I wouldn't cut him, if they want to move him, trade him. Tuck is the definitive starter at one DE spot, and I think if Osi stays, Kiwi goes soon because Kiwi is good enough to start on the majority of NFL teams.

I don't think you can blame Manning, he has had some bad games but overall is having a great year, personally. I think Coughlin is the right man for the job, I don't think Sheridan is as far as the DC position is concerned.

Emperor Smeat
12-28-2009, 12:50 AM
Yeah didn't imply it was Manning's or Coughlin's fault since most teams that struggled would start with blaming a coach or their star player as the main reason when it could have been the GMs fault or owners fault (ex Redskins) or team lacks the spirit to win (ex Raiders for years).

Yeah. 11 out of 16 teams in the AFC are still alive with ONE week left to go. And one was just now eliminated from contention this week.

Also, if Minnesota can win out then it looks like both Green Bay and Arizona and Philly and Dallas will be playing in Week 17 AND THEN playing the Wild Card games. Crazy. Like a total NFC Wild Card round preview in week 17.

I'm almost positive that whoever wins the Philly/Dallas game next week will lose the following week though. It's gonna make a bizarre feeling watching that game. I know some part of me is going to actually be rooting for Philly to take the NFC East.

Wow. Looking at the playoff generator again, it's actually possible for all four wild card games to take place in week 17.

Dallas/Philly, Arizona/Green Bay, Cincy/Jets, Houston/New England.

This is a crazy fucking season...
