With the Hall of Fame Game tonight, Bills vs Titans, it is the beginning of pre-season.. The regular season is so close I can taste it.. I just hop I am able to make it to atleast one Saints game this year as I haven't been since before Hurricane Katrina.. Just look at it this way, the last game I went to our QB was Aaron Brooks and our star WR was Joe Horn.. That was a long time ago..

I am so ready for kickoff tonight, even though it's just pre-season..

<font color=goldenrod>I'll watch a little bit just for the sake of seeing actual football. Stupid Giants aren't playing until a week from Monday. Gonna be real paranoid during pre-season though after seeing Osi get a season-ending injury against the Jets. Seems like every year there is at least one big name that gets a huge season-ending injury in preseason. Just wanna see them come out unscathed.

The regular season actually starts later than usual this year. Shit.</font> :(

Vito, your posts make me so depressed. You're going to be completely bald by the time you're 25 the way you worry about everything.

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah. :( Add that to the fact that baldness runs in the family. :shifty:

To be fair though, the Giants do have ridiculous amount of defensive depth if an injury happens there. Osi's injury last year didn't hurt the D that much and now they have him back plus Canty, Bernard, Boley, etc.

Offensive injuries are the main concern for me. They are thin at wideout depth as is...can't afford anyone getting banged up there, plus Jacobs.</font>

I really don't know how that fake punt worked, once they saw the wing back start to motion back like that they should have known something was up and not gone balls out to block the punt. Even if they taught if they were running the reverse they should have just hung back a bit and stayed square, Griffin would have run like 17 yards to get a first down (it was 4th and 10)

Not trying to hate since it was a cool looking play but it should have never worked, doesn't matter if its preseason or not.

Supreme Olajuwon
08-12-2009, 02:25 AM
If you look at the replay, one of the Bills hangs back to snuff out the fake and then gets juked right on the Hall of Fame logo by Trapasso.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
08-12-2009, 02:51 AM
He gets deked by the fake end around but I guess at least he hung back a bit. Still though if you have ever played a down of football you gotta thing something is up there, why the fuck would they do that motion?

Supreme Olajuwon
08-12-2009, 11:36 AM
I dunno, I mean I guess you have to still try to block the punt if you're that close in case it's only a decoy. But yeah they definitely handled it poorly.

Kris P Lettus
08-12-2009, 12:32 PM
Saints are bringing in 36 year old former Bucs LB Derrick Brooks today for a workout due to the possible season ending injury to Mark Simoneau.. I know he is old, but when he was healthy last year he was still a beast..

I dunno, I mean I guess you have to still try to block the punt if you're that close in case it's only a decoy. But yeah they definitely handled it poorly.Yeah I guess the decoy thing could be the biggest problem, still though if I saw that happening in front of me my first reaction wouldn't be to try to block a punt. I would be so caught off guard by that motion I don't know what I would have done, definitely not that though lol

Hanso Amore

Honestly, I dont care about the punt fake as a bills fan. Much more angered me. I figure even the guys who role is to block the fake didntthink someone would bust it out in the preseason.

Seriously, Fisher is an amazing coach, but he blew that play for the year.

Evil Vito
08-12-2009, 07:51 PM

So THEORETICALLY SPEAKING, let's say McNabb goes back to his injury ways and goes down round about Week 6 and Vick comes in and hasn't lost a step, does a Jeff Garcia. McNabb has gotta be into his 30's now. Do you think the Eagles would ever trade him in that position and go with the younger Vick? Or do you think Vick would get a bumper deal somewhere else?

Just researched. Apparently Jay Glazer just wrote an article about some "unnamed" Vikings players saying they still expect Favre to be with the team come opening day.

I don't buy it. Favre retired. If he comes back or makes an official statement saying "I'm still thinking about it" or something, then be pissed at him. Until then, be pissed at Jay Glazer for not letting the issue die.

"Bombshell alert" issued as to the Broncos

Posted by Mike Florio on August 17, 2009 9:20 PM ET
Jamie Dukes of NFL Network has dropped a hint, Twitter style, that big news might soon be emerging from Broncos' camp.

Specifically, Dukes says there's a "BOMBSHELL ALERT COMING OUT OF DENVER (http://twitter.com/jamiedukes/status/3372341106)."

Dukes later offered this clue: "No one died if that's what you're worried about but i just don't know what they are thinking (http://twitter.com/jamiedukes/status/3372510111)."

He also says that "Jason LaCanfora is working the story (http://twitter.com/jamiedukes/status/3373072750) and will be posting it on his blog late tonight."

Our guess is that the Broncos are either trading Brandon Marshall or taking some sort of action against him based on the perception that he's in some way embellishing an injury that has kept him out of action for most of camp.

It's also possible that they are signing Brett Favre.

We haven't asked Jay Glazer to make a prediction on that one.

Yet.

The only thing about which we're reasonably certain at this point is that La Canfora had better get his ass in gear, because thanks to Dukes the fox hunt is on.

God fucking damnit can we just cut it out already. La Canfora is apparently a beat writer for the Ravens

Broncos apologize to WR Brandon Marshall (http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/08/17/broncos-apologize-to-wr-brandon-marshall/) <!-- p class="post-info-author">By Jason La Canfora</p -->

Posted: August 17th, 2009 | Jason La Canfora | Tags: apology (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/apology/), Brandon Marshall (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/brandon-marshall/), Brian Xanders (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/brian-xanders/), Denver Broncos (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/denver-broncos/), Harvey Steinberg (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/harvey-steinberg/), Jay Cutler (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/jay-cutler/), Joe Ellis (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/joe-ellis/), Josh McDaniels (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/josh-mcdaniels/), Kennard McGuire (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/kennard-mcguire/), Pat Bwolen (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/pat-bwolen/), trade demand (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/trade-demand/)
The Denver Broncos apologized to disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Marshall this week for an incident involving their public relations staff, according to league and team sources, another unusual event in what has been a trying offseason between the sides.
Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis apologized to Marshall on behalf of the organization after a junior member of the team’s public relations staff was instructing players Friday on what to say after the team’s preseason game that night, according to sources. The public relations staffer specifically was urging them not to express too much joy or emotion if questioned by the media about Marshall’s acquittal on battery charges (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d811e4b70&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true) earlier that day in a Georgia courtroom, the sources said.
Marshall, who has been seeking a trade, already had trust issues with the Broncos, clashing over his contract (he would like an extension beyond the year remaining on his rookie deal) and the team’s treatment of his hip injury, and this incident only deepened that chasm, according to sources.
Marshall, 25, was accompanied by lawyer Harvey Steinberg at the face-to-face meeting with Ellis, and believes the “coaching” being done by the public relations staffer was in fact a directive from upper management, according to league sources. Broncos sources rebuffed that notion and attributed the incident to the public relations staffer being “overzealous” and acting on his own.

I am supposed to be relieved that you finally “changed your mind”, you f**king douchetender? Oh, thank God you’re here! Thank God the man who had a worse passer rating than T-Jack and Gus Frerotte combined last year, AND threw more picks than both of them, is now in the fold! Huzzah! Another triumphant playoff loss to the Eagles is all but assured now!

Say, this is funny. Remember two weeks ago, when Brett Favre told Lofty Peter King just how devastated he was that he had to say no to the Vikings? When really he just was just lying right through his f**king bumpkin teeth because he didn’t want to bother to do things like get into shape or learn the playbook? That was fun. And I’m crazy excited for the press conference later today, when he explains that he changed his mind when really, he didn’t want to bother to do things like get into shape or learn the playbook. BUT THAT’S BRETT FAVRE FOR YOU. HE JUST LOVES THE GAME TOO DAMN MUCH.

YOU MASSIVE SHITBURGLAR. NOW I HAVE TO SPEND A WHOLE GODDAMN YEAR PRETENDING TO WISH YOU WELL WHEN, IN FACT, I HOPE YOU FALL OFF YOUR PORCH AND HAVE YOUR THROAT SLASHED BY A BEER BOTTLE. I FUCKING HATE YOU, YOU FUCK.

Look, I get that the Vikings have a real problem with the QB position. But really, does anything think the ultimate solution for this team is a 39-year-old pick machine who confesses to having a tired body and doesn’t actually want to do any of the hard work involved with playing the position successfully? That’s what makes Favre so f**king annoying. “Fuggit. I’ll jusgeddoutdurr anthrowitaroun.” This guy has been in the league for years and years, and he still somehow thinks he doesn’t have to do any of the sh*t everyone else has to do to win games. He’s the f**king Steve Spurrier of quarterbacking.

The fact of the matter is that Brett Favre doesn’t actually love football. He just loves being a football player. He likes running out having people scream his name and all that sh*t. And that’s fine. I don’t begrudge any man that right. But I don’t want to hear about how he’s coming back for the love of the game. If he loved the game so much, he’d work to NOT FUCKING SUCK AT IT WHEN IT COUNTS. Just the kind of player who fits into the Vikings organization. I hate that I root for this goddamn team.

It’s gonna be a long year. GOD FUCKING DAMMIT.

lol bellend. I wonder if he reacts that way everytime somebody holds out of camp. I wonder if he thought the same thing about Derrick Mason a few weeks ago. I bet he'll soon shut the fuck up should Favre click in Minnesota and they contend. Then again, maybe it was Tarvaris Jackson that wrote that.

Mr. Monday Morning
08-18-2009, 05:54 PM
Well not really. He's been the face of their most hated rivals for like 15 years or whatever.

Also Mason retired and decided to come back, mostly on his own terms. He didn't retire, think about coming back, find the team had moved on, throw his toys out the pram, sign for another team, retire again, openly make it seem like he was going to sign with a team, say he was going to stay retired, and then come out of retirement. Bit of a difference.

BRETT'S SHIT LOOKS BROWN, IS HE HINTING AT A CLEVELAND BROWNS RUN NEXT YEAR? STAY TUNED, CHRIS MORTENSEN REPORTING

VonErichLives
08-18-2009, 08:09 PM
(can't believe I'm going to defend him...)

yeah, the coverage was a bit much, but is that Brett's fault? did he ask for a helicopter to film him getting off his plane?

Chris Carter had a good point today. "us older players don't retire because we can't play the game, we retire because we don't want to do training camp anymore" going on to say that if someone offered him 10-15mil a year and he could skip most of training camp he might still be playing and same with a lot of older players.

The issue with Brett is not just does he take off most of training camp after telling EVERYONE he wouldn't play again, the reports from NYJ is even during the season he 1/2 practiced, skipped film sessions and didn't try to mentor anyone... which goes back to Rodgers when someone asked him about mentoring him and he responded "it's not my job to coach" or something to that effect.

So yeah, I'm sick of him, my issue isn't what he's doing but how he's doing it.

He's a gun slinger without the good gun he had, will he take the time to "learn the system" in Minnesota or will he just be throwing the ball away in key situations as usual... time will tell, he's in a good situation if he can pull it off.

Not to mention last year on the Jets he was playing in a different system, this year he is back playing in his familiar system with the best player in the NFL in the backfield. I dunno, seems like it could be the ingredients to have a good year.

lol Raiders. Cable being investigated for allegedly punching an assistant.

The National Football Post is reporting that Raiders assistant Randy Hanson will turn over medical records, and he's expected to cooperate with Napa, Calif. police.
Police as well as NFL Security have been attempting to get Hanson to talk since the story of his fractured jaw emerged earlier this week. It's believed that he will now cooperate because the Raiders will not allow him to return to his former position. The next step is likely an investigation and a possible felony charge against head coach Tom Cable. Cable has declined to comment.

I didn't think about that but still, I don't see why any Vikings fan would be anything less than optimistic considering how much of an improvement it is

Having followed the Vikes through thick and thin but mostly thin for longer than you've been alive I will tell you why Viking fans are pissed off.

Cast your mind back 12 months - we got dicked around with would he retire, would he come to the Vikes, would the Packers allow it - and in the end he signed for the Jets. It fucked up the camps and the team got off to a slow start and never really got going.

Major Dad sees what happened in Tenn and realised that the Vikes just need a competent QB who can hit more than 45% of his passes and not be the drive killer that T-Jack was. The reality is that everyone knew that our offense last season was hand the ball to AD, hand the ball to AD, throw for 5 yards and then punt. Long term AD got shut down and banged up by about week 10 - thanks to some Bucs cheap shots. AD is great but he is brittle and can't run against 11 guys in the box on every down.

So this off season - we sign Sage. Ok, not the greatest but he isn't T-Jack and that is a good thing.

Then all of sudden we get the Favre soap opera that we had last year. Will he, won't he. He says he won't. OK say all of the fans, no problem and we'll go with Sage. But oh no, suddenly Mr Drama Queen decides oh yes he does want in. Fucking Major Dad starts prostituting himself before him, destroying any respect that anyone in the team might have had for him. Destroying his credibility and we have to start again.

Is Favre really an improvement? I'd say not. He is old, egotistic, injury-prone and bad for team spirit. Having a soap opera surrounding the team does not make it better. Having your head coach look like a cunt does not improve the team.

Favre for about the last 10 years has been all about him. Not about the team. This is not about helping the Vikings win, it is about him wanting to settle scores and his own little ego. So that means him and his fucking 'streak' of consecutive games, Favre cares only about himself and his stats. There are plenty of tales about how poisonous the locker room at the Jets became last year with all of Favre's demands for special treatment.

Not only will Viking fans have to put up with Major Dad's shitty play-calling but we'll also have Favre's ego calling the shots.

This move will rank up there with the Walker trade for boneheaded Viking moves.

Embarrassing for Vikes fans and all of us know that it will end in tears.

According to Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports, Hanson is "back in the hospital (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AqxJ_vMkUtGircJvvwBsG99DubYF?slug=ms-raiderscamp082009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)" due to swelling in the jaw. Citing an unnamed source close to Hanson, Silver reports that Cable "is definitely" responsible for the injury, and that Cable "had to be pulled off of [Hanson] two times."

Per Biggs, who also cites an unnamed source, "Cable knocked Hanson out of his chair and up against the wall and into a cabinet. Cable and Hanson fell to the floor, where Hanson was choked, . . . and Cable was pulled off Hanson by the other men before Cable went after Hanson again."

Cable allegedly said while allegedly choking Hanson, "I am going to kill you, I am going to kill you."

Aren't there rules governing what players can wear on field? My guess is being preseason the rules enforcement is lax, but Im thinking he wont be able to wear whatever he wants during the regular season.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
08-21-2009, 02:17 AM
He has worn the colored chinstrap before, probably just gets fined for it. I remember he tried wearing crazy ass cleats with small pictures of all of his TD catches wrapped around both of them. NFL officials told him they wouldn't let him on the field with them. I think he tried to push it because at first he still had them on but just all taped up. Eventually in the game had a different pair of cleats on. Probably tried called the officials bluff and realized they were serious lol

I think he might be able to get by with the gold gloves though, he can sneak them out, it's not like a pair of cleats where somebody is gonna see them in the locker room. They aren't gonna come up to him in the middle of the game to take them away. Believe it or not they actually have a guy in the locker room before the game who checks every player and informs them if they are in violation of the "uniform laws" or not. Once the game starts though all bets are off, guys get fined for un-tucked jerseys.

One thing I noticed last night is Brady's form looked pretty sloppy on more than a couple passes. He flat footed one throw that would've been an easy touchdown and sailed it high. Its probably just rust and he'll probably fix it but that's a behavior that's consistent with timidity after a knee injury. So hopefully it doesn't persist.

He looked pretty good in game 1, last night he was under pressure a lot and it was his first time getting hit so hopefully that's all that it was. The whole team looked pretty sloppy really, the 3-4 didn't look that sharp. Really starting to think they are gonna run a 4-3 this year.

As for Harrison, I was wondering why no one has picked him up, I thought the whole gun thing was cleared a while ago?

Thought I heard something he wants to play, but still wants top player money... not sure if anyone has the cap room to take a risk on him at this stage of his career... but heck, if it was a reasonable deal, just to have him at 3/4 or 1/2 of what he was and on a team with younger WR's to teach.

Hobbs wasn't a 1st round pick making tons of money though

Plus he's a better player than Gholston, he sucks at one on one coverage but he has great speed that can be used in certain spots. His weaknesses have definitely been exposed a lot more recently though, so those spots are becoming fewer and fewer. Gholston has been bad right off the bat

Aaron Ross just re-aggravated his hamstring injury as well. Honestly, I'm concerned primarily with the play of the receiving corps. The defensive line guys (Canty, Bernard etc.) that have missed time don't concern me. They're veterans and I can't see how learning a defense can be complicated for a DL. Once you learn the stunts and gap assignments the rest ought to fall into place.

Fuck ESPN. Michael Vick completes 4 passes for 19 yards and doesn't make it past the line of scrimmage on his one run and this is the current headline on ESPN.com:

"NEW EAGLE HAS LANDED: On Philadelphia's second play from scrimmage Thursday night, Michael Vick returned to an NFL field. Vick was solid, if not electric, in his Eagles' debut."

Seriously? The man did nothing but throw shovel passes, and like 13 of those 19 yards came on one completion.

And considering the whole electrocuting dogs thing, perhaps ESPN should shy away from using that adjective, no?

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have suspended wide receiver Brandon Marshall for conduct detrimental to the club.

Ronald Fields is terrible, I saw him get beat 3 times on one play in the Niners game. First lineman knocked him down, he got up and another lineman knocked him back down, then he started to get back up and the running back slid across him for a couple more yards.

Maybe he just had a bad game or something, because he was getting beat everytime San Fran ran the ball. He did look slightly better against Seattle though (the few plays I saw). So yeah someone to play his spot would be appreciated.

"Marshall went out during pre-practice warmups and walked while the rest of the team ran. He punted a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy, and swatted a pass thrown to him. His actions were caught on video and broadcast by KMGH-TV."

God, Denver is falling apart since Josh McDaniels took over. Seriously. Between this and the Jay Cutler incident (Obviously Brandon Marshall acting like a 12 year old isn't his fault but just the fact that it's another major incident with a great star player before he's even coached a game...) This man better be the second coming of Vince Lombardi when the season starts or this is gonna go down as an all-time horrible coaching hire.

These are some highlights for me. lol

- Brandon Jacobs scores 20 touchdowns

- Shaun Hill wins the starting quarterback job, throws for 3,000-plus yards and has at least 26 total touchdowns.

- T.J. Duckett scores double-digit touchdowns. Julius Jones has more than 1,200 total yards. Both have solid fantasy value this year. You heard me.. (Duckett got released a few days ago. lol)

<font color=goldenrod>The JerryTron got approved for '09. Any punt that hits it will just result in a replay of the down and any elapsed time will be added back to the clock. But after the year they might make changes depending on whether or not there are many incidents.

Bet there is at least one game this year where like 5 punts in a row hit it, forcing the punting team to change their punting strategy.</font>
