Besides several plays on the first drive, the Patriots frontline on defense is showing a lot of improvement compared to last year so far. O line also showing improvement from the big issues from preseason.

Probably a sign of how poor the Pats RBs have been for years considering Ridley became the 1st to break 100 yards to start the season since Curtis Martin did it in 1995.

Weeden has managed to outsuck Vick in the Philly-Browns game and yet the score is still very close.

Griffen looks good for his first official game but probably won't be really tested until the division games. Cam Newton had a hot start last year stats-wise but later got INT problems as the season went on and teams adjusted to him.

In all seriousness though, the Saints damn near pulled a rabbit out of there ass at the end there. The offense being able to spike the ball that quick and efficiently tells you just how organized and in sync the NOLA offense can be.

The Bengals were 1-7 last year vs teams with .500 records. Dalton threw 10 ints vs 5 tds in those 7 losses. Droford, are you really implying that the Browns are a better team than the Bengals? That's just preposterous! I mean, Weeden is clearly going to have a horrible season and that offense looked putrid. Then again Philly looked just as abysmal. 'Alex Smith was essentially flawless. Frank Gore ran wild through the Packers defense. Late in the Green Bay Packers' loss to the San Francisco 49ers, we thought the Packers were lucky just to be in the game.

The Packers feel differently.

"We beat ourselves. They really didn't beat us," cornerback Jarrett Bush said after the game, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "We just have to hunker down and make sure we're gap sound and get on the same page. Obviously, small things being miscommunicated on the field become big things, so they exploited us and that's what happened."

Oh boy. If any of this sounds familiar, let's replay some comments from Clay Matthews this offseason about Green Bay's playoff loss to the New York Giants.

"The fact is, (the Giants) didn't beat us; we beat ourselves," Matthews told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.

Give us a break. The Giants and 49ers pushed the Packers around. Green Bay has lost three of its last five games. Their defense was generally awful for all of last season.

We're starting to think Green Bay's attitude that no team can actually beat them is part of the problem.'

Lol. The "we beat ourselves" defence from teams never gets old eh. Flawless argument...

Gonzo
09-10-2012, 03:32 PM
Yeah, you can say that you didn't execute X, Y, or Z but at some point credit has to go to the opposition. There are things that I thought the Giants didn't do well or at all in the opener but the Cowboys played well and made plays. It's homerism to think otherwise.

And I'm already tired of people getting angry over the replacement refs like its completely one sided against their team. The refs are awful but they've at least been pretty consistent being awful across the board. GB fans were complaining about the Niners not being called on false starts but GB also scored a touchdown because two illegal blocks in the back happened in the same play. We're just gonna have to deal with the ref situation for now and look at is as just part of the game.

Emperor Smeat
09-10-2012, 04:08 PM
So far the general consensus with all the complaints about the replacement refs is the lack or inconsistency with holding calls. For example the Dallas vs Giants game had them all called in bunches during one Dallas drive and almost no other time in the game.

Kris P, your thoughts on the Pass Interference call in the endzone please.

Personally, I think there was enough there to warrant a flag.

The one on Roman Harper, yes..

I thought the Skins DB's got away with murder, specially on Jimmy Graham, all day..

Offence looked mediocre and offbeat the whole first half.. Defense still needs to learn to tackle/wrap up..

Pretty pissed about the whole preformance...

RGIII is the truth..

Well, we lost the opener last year to the Pack and still went 13-3 being one play away from the NFC Chamionship so I'm not worried..

He's no Joe Flacco, but he is a good QB. I think if he got a competent coach who had the balls to stand up to Jerry and make the team HIS team then the level of play would go up and the complacency and sense of automatic superstardom would go down.

Ray rice and mid both effectively became starters in 2009. Ray rice has 2 years with over 2000 total yards from scrimmage to mjd's 0. Rice also has about 100 more yards rushing since 2009 and twice as many receptions and yards receiving over that span, as well as half as many fumbles 5 to mjd's 10.
About the only stat mid is better in is combined tds 34-29.

Well there you go.

With Cowboys-Giants, Lions-Rams, Chargers-Raiders, 49ers-Packers and Jags-Vikings being in the 20s range and Bucs-Panthers and Eagles-Browns even being in the teens, it really didn't come off as ridiculously high scoring. Definitely not record setting.

I like his matchup, but it's a PPR league and Crabtree is the guy in SF. Also have Boldin and Julio Jones (who I don't plan to bench).

Need to pick a flex play for my 16 team PPR league tomorrow.

My choices are Donald Jones, David Wilson, Jermaine Gresham, Knowshon Moreno and Nate Washington.

Washington is the obvious choice but he hasn't practiced all week and is a gametime decision. Kinda worried to start him even if he plays based on the lack of practice.

I'm a big Knowshon fan but I'm stashing him hoping he'll get a shot and come out of nowhere later. Not about to start him yet though, obviously.

David Wilson is another guy I feel like could come along any moment and I don't think the fumble is gonna hamper him too long. Not feeling him this week though.

Basically, I'm torn between Gresham and Jones right now. Gresham might be a safer bet to maybe not go off but at least get get something. Jones is a starter and the Bills like to pass even with Spiller in the backfield. He feels like a good sleeper who could have a really good game against a shitty KC pass defense who didn't seem interested in guarding the 2nd receiver last week.

Not sure where to go here.
