AP took the award for Offensive Player of the Year. Probably means he's going to take the MVP award as well.
JJ Watt dominated the Defensive Player of the Year award with 49 votes (Von Miller took the other vote).

However, all of the "big 3 rookie" QBs were equally deserving of the award.

AP probably should have won the Comeback award as well considering it being tougher and what he did this season at the RB spot than Peyton at the QB spot. Wouldn't be surprised if the voters gave it to Peyton as consolidation for loosing the MVP award.

I think Peyton had the edge since he actually missed an entire season. Seems weird giving the comeback player of the year award to a guy that didn't even miss a single game. Age probably factored into it too.

4 of the last 6 teams to lose the super bowl in the super dome scored exactly 10 points.
74% of all losing teams (34 of 46) scored 20 points or less.
The giants in xlii were the only team since 1975 to win with less than 20 points.

I don't think that can happen. Assume its 31-31 into it and the 49ers get ball first and kick a fg 34-31, if the ravens went for the td to win it'd be 37-34 (no pat). 36-34 could happen too if its 34-34 into ot, if the 49ers get the ball first and the Ravens get a safety which would end the game like a td.
I know I can't take the game going into ot, but if it did it'd instantly be a top 3 super bowl..

A) they don't kick pats in out
B) its not like college where even if one team scores a td the other team gets a chance to score a td. If the team that gets the ball first scores a td, its over. If they score a fg, then the other team gets a chance to score a fg to continue the game (into sudden death first score wins) or a td to win, or no score which ends the game.

I wouldn't be opposed to eventually altering the OT rules so that each team gets an offensive possession even if there's a TD to start it off (unless there's a defensive TD or safety or something). Just think it would add more drama to see the offense come out in a total do or die situation.
Probably not going to happen though. The owners had to be prodded just to alter the FG overtime rules.

I believe so.
Super Bowl 42 was also closer to overtime than you'd think. That final Pats drive Brady actually got ridiculously close to hitting Moss with like a 50 yard bomb. :o Would have put them well into field goal range AND they still had a full compliment of time outs.
Can't believe that game was 5 years ago. I loved last year's Super Bowl, but SB42 will probably always be my favorite sports moment.

Non-Super Bowl related News:
Giants targeting resigning Hakeem Nicks as their top priority for this offseason. Also said they want to keep Victor Cruz but only at a "reasonable" price and not what he is demanding at the moment.
Jets still trying to find someone dumb enough to trade for Tim Tebow but more likely he's getting released by March 12. Not even the Jags are willing to give up anything knowing he's going to be released before the season starts.
Alex Smith already projected to be the top QB available this offseason with a lot of teams interested in a trade. 49ers automatically save $1-$2 million in cap space if he's traded than just released due to the roster bonuses in his contract.

Chris Berman, "Sunday NFL Countdown" host: Ravens, 27-26 -- One of the great Super Bowls we'll talk about for decades.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Tom Jackson, "Sunday NFL Countdown" and "Monday Night Countdown" analyst: 49ers, 24-21 -- In the critical area the front line on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball I think the 49ers have an edge.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Mike Tirico, "Monday Night Football" play-by-play commentator: 49ers, 26-22 -- It's hard to separate the teams. Slight edges to San Francisco in a few key spots tilt the scale for me. I wouldn't be surprised to see the result reversed. In this good run of excellent games, we're in for another.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Jon Gruden, "Monday Night Football" analyst and Super Bowl champion coach: Ravens, 23-20 -- If this really is Ray Lewis' last game, how can I pick it any other way?
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Steve Young, "Monday Night Countdown" analyst, Hall of Famer and three-time San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl champion: 49ers, 31-17 -- The offensive line is as good as in two generations. They are the best team in the league getting off the bus and they are playing very well.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Cris Carter, "Sunday NFL Countdown" and "Monday Night Countdown" analyst: 49ers, 31-27 -- Kaepernick is going to run the ball a lot.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Trent Dilfer, "Monday Night Countdown" analyst: 49ers, 31-23 -- As conflicted as I am having to pick between two of my former teams ... both move the ball. The pistol allows the Niners to punch it in, while the Ravens are stuck kicking field goals.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Stuart Scott, "SportsCenter" anchor and "Monday Night Countdown" co-host: Ravens, 29-24 -- Colin Kaepernick will have a great game, but he hasn't seen a defense like this in the playoffs.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Charissa Thompson, "SportsNation" co-host: Ravens, 21-10 -- I just trust the experience of Joe Flacco over the nine Colin Kaepernick starts.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Mike Ditka, "Sunday NFL Countdown" and "Monday Night Countdown" analyst and Super Bowl winning coach: 49ers, 28-24 -- I like what Jim [Harbaugh] has done and how he's built the team. If the 49ers do not get a pass rush, they will be in trouble, but they have found a way to get it done all season.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Keyshawn Johnson, "Sunday NFL Countdown" and "Monday Night Countdown" analyst and Super Bowl champion: 49ers, 24-17 -- No one's figured out how to stop this pistol offense. Defenses have struggled against this offense and Kaepernick
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Tedy Bruschi, "NFL Live" analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion: 49ers, 28-27 -- The difference is the 49ers' offensive line. Frank Gore is the MVP.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Herm Edwards, "NFL Live" analyst: 49ers, 27-24 -- The 49ers have too many options on offense that present problems for the Ravens. Even though Colin Kaepernick is young, sometimes being naive in a game like this is a good thing.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Ron Jaworski, "Sunday Night Countdown" and "NFL Matchup" analyst: Ravens, 27-24 -- Explosive plays will be the difference.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Steve Levy, "SportsCenter" anchor: Ravens, 27-24 -- I think the Ray Lewis' 'distraction' this week helps keep Baltimore focused, and it's time John Harbaugh outshines his brother Jim.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Merril Hoge, "NFL Live," "NFL Matchup" and "NFL PrimeTime" analyst: 49ers, 21-20 -- The core of the 49ers, the offensive and defensive lines, is the best in football. Colin Kaepernick has brought focus to their offense, but it's because they are so good in the trenches.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Chris Mortensen, "NFL senior analyst" and "NFL32" co-host: 49ers, 31-23 -- Colin Kaepernick's composure has been the biggest surprise for me this postseason, and I don't think he's going to lose it on the NFL's biggest stage.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Jerry Rice, "NFL Live" analyst Hall of Famer and three-time San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl champion: 49ers, 24-17 -- The Niners will have a better defense, and Colin Kaepernick bringing so many different formations to the offense will present matchup problems for the Ravens.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Rick Reilly, "Monday Night Countdown" contributor: 49ers, 35-34 -- Just as Cain slew Abel, so too will John slay Jim.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Mike Golic, ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike in the Morning": Ravens, 27-24 -- San Francisco may be the better team, but I picked the Ravens at the start of the year, and I still think they have the team to do it.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Mike Greenberg, ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike in the Morning": Ravens, 22-16 -- Kaepernick will have his time. This one goes to Flacco -- his is a team of destiny.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
John Clayton, Senior NFL Writer: 49ers, 28-24 -- With power football in vogue in this Super Bowl, the 49ers will overpower the Ravens at the end. The 49ers are deep in talent and focused, but it still wouldn't surprise me if they need overtime to get the win.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Adam Schefter, NFL Insider: 49ers, 17-14 -- Two throwback teams playing a throwback game in which two undrafted free-agent kickers, David Akers and Justin Tucker, could decide the world championship.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Trey Wingo, "NFL Live" and "NFL PrimeTime" host: 49ers, 27-21 -- Kaepernick is the reason the 49ers will tie the Pittsburgh Steelers with an NFL-best six Lombardi trophies.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/sfo.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Mark Schlereth, "NFL Live" analyst and ESPN Radio's "Hill and Schlereth": 49ers, 28-27 -- Offensively, Colin Kaepernick -- the dual threat and read-option -- will be too much.
http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/teamlogos/nfl/500/bal.png?w=80&h=80&transparent=true
Gary Horton, ESPN Scouts Inc.: Ravens, 23-20 -- The 49ers are the more talented team in this game, but there's something about this Ravens team, with their resilience and ability to raise their game to another level. It could be a Joe Flacco coming-out party.

Colin Cowherd, ESPN Radio's "The Herd": Ravens, 26-22 -- I expect Colin Kaepernick to make a mistake late. There's a big difference between playoff games and the Super Bowl. There's just more pressure, and Flacco has been in so many BIG games.

I don't like it when someone says "When God is for you, who can be against you?" in sports.

Rick Reilly predicts ravens 35-34 in overtime. Pretty sure that can't happen.
I think this is technically possible.
Say two teams go into OT tied at 32...
Team A kicks a FG. 35-32
Team B gets the ball, throws a pick and the defender fumbles the football after picking it off and it rolls out of the back of the end zone.
Since team B had their possession and failed to match team A's score, the game is over but the safety still counts. Thus making the final score 35-34.
So it's possible. If that had happened though, this guy would have been the greatest genius who ever existed.

He has vastly improved over the past few seasons though, which certainly should get him a little more props.

I guess the next question is, where is Alex Smith gonna go now?
A few weeks ago, some were saying he'd be in Philly. Not sure if there is any interest from either side, though.

I have little doubt the 49ers will be hoisting a Lombardi within the next 3 years. They just have a fantastic core of players and should be right in the thick of the chase for quite some time.
Totally agree with this. This team is great and should only get better.

The NFL is a Brand. They've got officials on the sidelines that police everything from socks being pulled up to ensuring that shirts are tucked in or atleast touching the top of the pants. They ensure that team specific cleats/gloves/towels/chinstraps/etc are used by each dressed player on each sideline. There is a tally of uniform violations and minor fines(usally ranging from 100-500 dollars IIRC) that is levied apon each violator.
The Uniform police is serious business.
High School and Colleges don't have the same strict marketing and uniform guidelines as the NFL
(Yes, this was old... this PC just kicked me on this page instead of the last one and I found this interesting.)
The hot minute Mike Nolan was coaching the '9ers, he got fined several times because (wait for it) HE WORE A FUCKING SUIT AND TIE! God forbid he look like a professional on the sideline. I mean, Bill Bellichick dresses like a goddamn vagabond, but it's sanctioned team apparel, so it's okay to have your team spearheaded looking like a bum. It took awhile for Addidas to come along and actually tailor some suits, and by that time, he was on his way out the door.
On to today:
I noticed Gore's socks were pretty much in the same fashion he was fined for, and not a single fuck was given on Super Bowl Sunday.
Sucks they lost. At least it put to bed the conspiracy theorists who were already foaming up about San Fran coming back after the power outage. Nevermind the dropped passes, fumbles, and missed tackles by the Ravens in the second half and Kapernick stepping up instead of beating himself in the head and taking himself out of the game from nerves.
Valliant effort, but Flacco is a guy who's been there. For all intents and purposes, Kap's basically a rookie QB who got to make a run for the biggest game in the land. Not a bad run for a kid who came out of nowhere and stepped up as opposed to just being a flash-in-the-pan who makes Alex Smith worry about losing his job for about 2 games, then fizzles out.
Good effort, but not enough.

Grounds for divorce.
You know how much fame and income you just pissed away simply to prove you were a fan of the Ravens?

I bet Droford is kind of lost now that his team has won the whole thing. He can't make ridiculous statements any more. He must be hating this. I was expecting post after post of gloating and "I told you so's." But I guess that's not fun when your team is receiving copious amounts of praise. Either that or he's dead in a ditch somewhere from alcohol poisoning.

I imagine he is laughing on the floor whilst rolling at all of TPWW's naysayers who have been shut up by the mighty Ravens.

Great game. Flacco deserves MVP for his performance in the entire postseason.

Flacco is 8-0 in the post season when he doesn't throw an INT (1-4 when he does)

Droford stat: I've seen the Super Bowl champs play the Eagles at the Linc for the past 5 years.

First off I don't drink. Next I had to get up for work at 4 on less than 4 hours sleep. Also, there's a lot of praise but I keep hearing crap like Flacco will ruin the franchise with his big contract to the 49ers lost the game (frank gore basically came out and said the better team lost) and not that the Ravens won..to anything about ray Lewis..
Now I want to see the Ravens buck the trend of the champion playing like crap the following year. I already predicted a rematch next year in the super bowl..people are already saying they won't make the playoffs next season..people really should know better lol
As for the I told you so's, no one gave the Ravens any chance to win the last 3 games and just the fact that they went out and played the best stretch of 3 games in the Raven's history and proved everyone wrong not once, not twice..but three times is good enough for me. A

Redskins have beaten the champs the last 3 years in the regular season.
Guess like their fans, you can go hang that "we beat the champs" banner first home game..
