This game started off so fucking promising. Rams drive down the field in like four plays... Cards answer with a nice, slow, methodical drive... then... nothing.

Cards were pretty underwhelming. The NFC West is much more competitive than I think anybody thought this year though. The niners do not have a free pass to the playoffs at all.

It seems like everyone was picking either the Cardinals or Seahawks to actually compete this year. I don't think anyone thought that both of them AND the Rams would be this competitive though.

Yeah the Rams have been a big surprise so far compared to last year where they were really horrible on offense for scoring. Ended up being one of the worst all-time in NFL history.
Already up to having half the points they scored all of last year in just 5 games so far.
The Fraze
10-05-2012, 03:39 AM
Tonight's game wasn't an indication that the 49ers are in trouble. I feel like both teams tonight will get steam rolled when they play SF. Anything could happen, but whatever. Busting through an atrocious offensive line and holding a team with no running game to 3 points isn't that impressive.
The Fraze
10-05-2012, 03:40 AM
You might say then, that the Niners beating a team last week who's quarterback has the lowest completion percentage isn't that impressive either, but we straight up destroyed them. Oh well.

Coupled with losing to Arizona on the road regularly.

A full day before the game and the Giants' inactive list seems to already be set: Nicks, Barden, Bernard, Phillips, and Hosley are all out. Diehl and Rivers are doubtful, which in Coughlin terms normally means out as well. So there's all 7. There's like 10 guys listed as questionable but they have to play pretty much out of necessity.
Injuries aside the Giants are much better than the Browns and SHOULD win pretty handily...but we all know they they won't. If they win, it will be way closer than it has any right to be. It's not the Giant way to blow out an inferior team at home.

I remember Giants/Browns back in 2008 when the Giants were red hot. Bit of a shocker. Would be very Giant-like to overlook them again and lose and then beat the 49ers away next week. Not that I think that will happen however.

Also, I walked right by Amani Toomer on the concourse. I did a double take because I didn't expect someone like him to be walking around like that (it was at halftime.) I turned to see if anyone else recognized him but it didn't seem anyone was paying attention.

Troy Aikman: Cowboys fans go to games 'to be seen'
"I've always said Dallas isn't so much a sports town as it is a winner's town," Aikman told KTCK-AM, via The Dallas Morning News. "And that's not that unique. Most towns are like that. There are very few towns like Chicago where you can go out there and go 4-12 and they're (still) selling out stadiums. That's pretty unique. But Dallas, they pull for their winners."
"I don't think Dallas has ever really had a great home-field advantage," he said. "... I think for a large part -- and the fans don't want to hear this -- a lot of the people that attend sports in this town, they're there because it's kind of just a place to be seen. I didn't know anybody who went to Rangers games, and then when they started winning and going to World Series, everybody's wearing Rangers hats and saying, 'Oh yeah, I'm a big Rangers fan.' "

It's true. Most of your hardcore cowboys fans live throughout the state and can't afford to go to an actual game. There is a large number of Steelers fans in my part of the state, but I don't know how much of that is just a result of people going "Fuck the Cowboys. It's weird that they choose Pittsburgh. I understand that there's the whole rivalry stemming from the 70's but if you're rooting for a team just to say "Fuck the Cowboys" why wouldn't you go with Philly, NY or Washington. Even see San Francisco seems more anti-Cowboys.

So Detroit is down by 3 with 13 seconds left from the Philly 1 yard line. They try two passes to the end zone to get the TD.
My question is... why wouldn't you just basically rape the receivers? The clock can't be reset because of a penalty or anything and the penalty yardage does nothing.
Emperor Smeat

Eagles really need to fix their turnover problems especially Vick since right now he's literally averaging 1 INT for every TD thrown so far.

Wouldn't work since the final play can't end on a penalty from the defense I think.

You're not trying to end the game in that situation though. They're preventing a TD. And since Detroit is down by 3, the only thing they can do is try a couple quick shots to the end zone and then take the 3. So why not just be all over the WRs, let the time for the plays run off the clock and then make them kick the FG?

I think they might have changed the rules about doing something like that after the previous Super Bowl where the Giants were able to run off some time from a penalty on the last Pats drive.
Although problem with that is the Lions could always fake into a rush and get the TD since they'd be stupid to decline the penalty. It has to be a fake into a rush or else the Eagles are prepared and wouldn't purposely get a flag thrown.

If they're already at the 1 though, they could rush it anyway. With no timeouts, it would be a dumb move down by three but taking the penalty to make sure they don't get the touchdown still works.

Also knew I should have taken the Giants for this week's Pick'em pick but didn't expect the 49ers to be struggling this badly. Thought the 49ers would be a lot more motivated and tougher to get revenge over what happened last time they met in a game.

Could be Flaco's best chance to really prove he's worthy of top or elite status as a QB without the argument that the Defense is the reason for the team's real success.
Although if he struggles, probably puts away any hope of him being seen as a truly elite/top QB unless he wins a ring in the public's eye. On paper the second half of the schedule has a lot of potentially tough defenses to go against him.
